So glad your son is managing to cope; my daughter has AS too and life can be really difficult for them can't it?

We're on the edge of a big breakthrough where I live. The National Autistic society is involved with Social Services and the PCT etc. and they are all beginning to listen to what we have to say about the struggle these folks and their families go through.

Congrats to your son - and to you, sounds like you've done a great job!

hello thanks jude carol, ann BC and cynthia xx

cynthia really pleased something is happening your way, i brought david up faced with complete ignorance from medics social services and even his physiciatrist, often feeling i had reached rock bottom, it was only getting the internet that helped us so much, the main one was so simple and it was a case of every time i spoke to my son i would ask him if he understood what i had just said, i was so shocked to find out that nearly everthing he heard from people he didnt understand, he suffered terrible depression and often tried to end his own life.
He seems so grown up now, he still has fear offf crowds and needs to shut himself away, his girlfriend is training to be a physcoligist so im happy they both benefit, he has been helping her with her with her course work, im hoping to find somewhere he could go to learn a proffession, although he only spent 2 yeras in school, he got 3 gcse, thanks again i will pass this on he loves being praised.
thanks again xx

So pleased to hear about David.I remember how worried you were .
I know quite a bit about Aspergers as my friends son has it and she has had a terrible time fighting the school system, but now at 18 her son is doing very well and is a prefect at a very good school.I also have a grandson in Oz who was diagnosed with this only last year at the age of 9.
They are normally very intelligent in the areas that they like, but can lack in social skills.I think it is being recognised more now and understood.
We never heard of a lot of these conditions years ago,so how many were brushed off as uneducable or eccentric?
