Is it a spoon with a really sharp edge that you can stab into a tin?

OH is coming up to 76 and has to renew his driving licence, he does have some visual problems due to age and he has mild glaucoma that is controlled by drops, but his visual field have affected his left eye although his optician says he is still Ok to drive as one eye compensates for the other, we have been very truthful on the form that was sent in in Jan,his birthday is mid march, didnt hear anything from them so chased 10 days ago no response online but got a form to fill in by snail mail .STILL WAITING!!
I can drive but have lost confidence so we are thinking that we may have to do the main shopping online !! doesnt give me much confidence to do this when seeing the silly alterntives they put in the basket. I like to look at the produce and make my own selection !

what annoys me is when you register with the site they take a phone number to contact you
my shopping was to be delivered between 4-6 pm
the driver rang me at 3.15 to say would it be ok to deliver earlier i said yes thats ok
why cant they ring you to say we dont have what you ordered would you like us to replace it with anything else and give you a choice to say yes or no thanks

Have you seen the average age of the people who fill the on line orders. Very young most of them, probably never done a grocery shop in their lives. Our main T**** is one of the places where they fill orders for this area. All the time I am able I will do it myself.

you have to put 'no substitutes' if you dont want anything but what you ordered.

I have just ordered a washing machine from Littlewoods. It is in the sale with £80 pounds off, a deciding factor I can tell you.I ordered it by telephone and they sent me a confirmatory e-mail with the full price.
I rang them and it seems they have some scheme where they tell you the best price or something when you order.
Now I have to ring them when the machine arrives to have the £80 taken off the account.I'm not happy about this at all because they state that it is not returnable unless faulty.Think I will ring them before I sign for it.

I would be more annoyed if I ordered a hot and spicy Mulligatawny soup and end up getting a substitute of chilled Gazpacho although I must admit that substituting books is taking things a bit far!!
You must admit the delivery service is handy and we get the heavy duty stuff sent while making a point of choosing our own cold meats, fruit and vegetables as these are often prone to short dating.

By the way Ginnie, why do Tesco and Iceland only get three stars while Somerfield get six stars ! :))

PollyPoppet Report 27 Feb 2010 18:22

I agree that its handy for all heavy stuff to be delivered
but how can a spoon be the same as a can opener
and as for books well its beyond me how they can just give you whatever they think you would like to read
maybe thats why they only have 3 stars

Did you tick no substitutes? I have always ticked this so when they don't have t something in stock then they don't try to give me something totally irrelevant! May be worth trying out Sainsburys home delivery if they are in your area, they have a one hour delivery slot and if they are late they give you a £10 voucher....

We use Tesco's sometimes and have been satisfied with the service, but the branch we go to in Hereford has different things to the Newport one which is our on-line store. I have seen Asda delivering in our area, but have never been. Dont like Su*****ld. Waitrose too expensive!
