how you tell which is happy-or annoyed sound-they keep chasing each other-but not sure if they are playing or being horrible!-they are brothers after all!

I had two - who were allowed the freedom of the garden in the summer - but decided they didn't want to go back inside!
They spent the summer months grazing both my grass and next doors!
I had 3 cats at the time, and if they got too close the pigs would attack their feet! The pigs had a 'refuge' - under the hutch.
Once, one of the cats (a big ginger tom) got inside the hutch - and the guinea pigs cornered him - he was one scared cat! LOL
I loved the way they purred when they were happy.

Since they've both died, my lawn is more dandelion than grass!

thanks for advice-had a rabbit before and he was a bit jumpy-but not like the pigs-and he never made a sound all the time we had him! I can't tell yet whether the pigs noises are happy, cross, hungry, chattering or plain terrifed-lika new baby really-I'm sure it'll become clearer over time.

Lots of hay needed for bedding and almost constant nibbling. We have just one Guinea pig now, - her brother died nearly 2 years ago, but she is still around to call to us, aged over eight and a half now.
Great pets.

have given them food whenever i've seen them venture out today-even managed to stroke one witout him legging it back in the igloo-think its because he was frozen with fear-but at least he'll realise i wasn't going to hurt him! i will just have to be patient-and buy loads of veg!!!!

Food! Whenever you see them, give them food!
Could just be grass or dandelion leaves - the way to a Guinea pigs heart is food!

Much better than rabbits - they don't eat the whole garden and they talk to you (and about you) LOL

What I preferred about guneas to rabbits was the amount of chitter-chatter you get from them. They will learn to recognise you and will greet you on sight.

Tell them nicely that your not going to make a pie out of them, that should pacify them.....lol

so it is normal-thats good-they are squeaking behind me at the moment-alright as long as I don't look at them-then they run away!! So I guess I justbhave to be consistent with them then-and in time they'll stop fussing and learn to trust me then.thanks for reassurance-honestly they sound like I'm going to try and murder them!

I got two lovely boy guinea pigs (9 weeks old-same litter) last thursday. I want to bond with them etc-but they are so nervy-and practically scream when anyone walks into the same room as their cage. If they do venture out of their igloo and someone is in the room they freeze or do frantic squeaking and run back in again. How do I go about getting them tame and not petrified of me? They murmur and squeak quietly in the igloo-I'm sure they are discussing me!
