Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Aug 2015 11:36

Got an appointment with the doc this afternoon at 3.15pm but I will have to wait in the surgery till he gets back from the Hatherleigh surgery so may be quite a wait if he is running late.

Morning Frank

You haven't had a very good start to your day have you? Lucky it was just the kettle and not the washing machine or anything else as expensive, although it would of been better if nothing broke :-D :-D :-D

Well, the drains people turned up about half an hour ago so I left them to it, then thought if they are putting a camera down I have my washing machine on so it might interfere with the camera, so I went outside to ask them if I should turn it off and they were no where to be seen, I don't know where they've gone or when they'll be back. It was only10 minutes after they arrived I went back out to them. They asked me if it was alright to park on the drive which I said yes to but they're not parked there........very strange and no work has been done yet.

The weather is sunny now, so I'll go and do a bit of gardening while I wait for them to return. I've done a few loads of washing so I'll peg that out first. I've also done some sewing this morning too. OH has put holes in his socks so they all needed repairing and I had a top and a pair of jeans to repair too. I'd just finished the sewing when the drains people turned up, so now the side gate is open I'll go into the garden. I didn't want to go outside before they arrived incase I didn't hear the doorbell.

As you say Frank, you'd think it was someone important! As for an icon?!! I sometimes wonder if people know what that word means!! I don't remember Dusty Springfield getting all this adoration, and frankly she had a much better voice when all said and done, and by all accounts was a much nicer person! But there you go, and enough said!!
Took both children for a fantastic walk in the stubble field, gosh you should have seen them run!! They've been as good as gold this morning!!!

Frank Report 3 Aug 2015 13:27

I have just boiled a saucepan of water for a coffee. As I hadn't had any breakfast I did myself a couple of eggs on toast.

Madam has gone to get a new Kettle, then going on to see Martine to see how her MIL is after her stroke.

Good old North Wind blowing here, not cold but the trees are all bending over.

Mel will be at Dr now, so hope he can give her something for the pain.

That's strange Gill. the drain people there one minute and gone the next. They haven't fallen down the drain have they :-D :-D :-D ;-) ;-) ;-) Have you had a look ???

Ros refuses to repair socks, I have so many though I don't think I will ever need any new ones. If I said I have 40 pairs I wouldn't be exaggerating, that's without my sports socks (the little ones that just cover your ankles) !!

Have just watched the DOG RESCURERS one poor thing only had his back legs, but you should see him get around. A charity has bought him a special set of wheels, where he sits on a saddle with his body in a frame. You should have seen him RUN across a field. Bless him <3 <3

Well off for a read before madam gets back. See you later.

Having trouble with the internet today so just looking in quickly while I can .I haven't even managed to read the posts from yesterday yet :-S

We had a smashing day with Janice and Larry.Hopefully I will be able to get back here in a while.I have to go out now.

Annx

Annx Report 3 Aug 2015 14:35

Afternoon All,

Oh dear Frank, you have had quite a morning, what with the kettle blowing the electrics. I hope Ros's legs are better now, I must be easy to forget tablets sometimes, especially when you feel fine. I've nearly forgotten my evening one once or twice. I always watch the Dog Rescuers prog and thought that black dog with no proper front legs was amazing and quickly getting to grips with the carriage, even on what seems quite rough grass. I think a couple of stabilizers like kids' bikes have would have been good. Wasn't that cute little Chihuahau type dog lovely as well. How could someone fasten a rubber band on it's mouth and leave it? :-| :-0 I hope Martine's MIL isn't too badly affected by her stroke. I've given up repairing socks too.....he always leaves them till the holes are that big they need a patch!! lol. It's the same with his jacket pockets!!

What happens with MIL between visits and overnight is what we'd like to know Frank!! She's improved a bit, but still needs to lay down a lot and has bad days when the anti sickness treatment doesn't work. They have put her back on tablets to reduce her leg swelling, but she's ditched those in the past and we know she won't do what she's been told once she's home. I suspect that's partly why she wants to be home!! Always thinks she knows best. She has been offered other options, but insists she will manage at home. She likes the drama of ringing everyone with her news and can't do that in this hospital, so I expect she is feeling out of the loop! Now she's telling OH what to do re their anniversary and to get cards for FIL, but again I have grave misgivings about dredging up memories for him that give him so much grief. I think it would be best just to get him a little present, not saying what it is for and then if he happens to think of their anniversary later on we can point to the gift and explain that that was for the anniversary. I'm all for damage and stress limitation for him at age 94 with the problems he has, but MIL is a bu**er for keeping up routine and tradition at all costs!

Gill I wonder what happened with the drain people? Maybe they went to fetch a part they needed? I hope they get back soon and get on with the job. :-S

That's good news Fiona and now you've been able to have lunch out with some of the family. I hope your MIL gets some help from the consultant so she feels better soon. Fancy Katherine getting the wedding date wrong!! lol. It is easily done though as you don't check your diary when you are sure you know something!! At least she had a nice lunch out instead.......shame to waste being dressed up to the nines otherwise. :-)

Maybe the doc can help with antibiotics/painkillers Mel, but I think ours would probably send us to the dentist. The pain must be getting you down by now. You've not had a good time with your teeth recently have you. At least I have some good news for you and will be sending you an email later today!! ;-) ;-) Watch this space as they say!!

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Aug 2015 15:19

Been given antibiotic and co-codamol.

Annx Report 3 Aug 2015 15:19

What a nuisance all this data protection is. :-S The pension credit people have sent 2 letters the same day from different addresses, one saying they have awarded pension credit for FIL, the other saying they need more info! Also, possibly MIL needs to make a seperate pension credit claim too. I thought I'd try and sort it out speaking in general terms, but they insisted on names etc, then of course data protection prevents any further discussion. At present we are waiting for Power of Attorney registration (takes 8 weeks) and also for OH to be appointed to act for his benefits (already taken over 4 weeks). Until either one or the other comes through no-one else can deal with these letters or the letters from the home requiring details. What a state of affairs!! I'm sure if we wrote a letter for FIL to sign giving his permission to discuss his financial affairs with 'anyone it may concern', it would be fine, yet what a meaningless nonsense it is isn't it, as he is incapable of making any such decisions or know what permissions he is signing away. These are the things I get a bee in my bonnet about. :-)

Annx

Annx Report 3 Aug 2015 15:47

You'll be rattling now then Mel. Do you have to see the dentist after the course of antibiotics? Hopefully the pain will go now.

Gillx

Gillx Report 3 Aug 2015 16:15

No they didn't fall down the drain Frank LOL I checked only kidding. I didn't ask them where they had been when they got back but thinking about it they probably went to fill up with water as that is what the last two lots of people did. It would of been nice if they had told me though.

Well, I took your advice Frank and have been in the garden working, my back is now really achy with bending over for so long so I've run a nice bath which I'm staying in for a week LOL.

The drains people are coming back tomorrow to do the work. We need new drains but they had to ring the insurance for permission and they said no, so they are putting in a liner which is better for us as they won't have to dig up all the drive and patio. Because it takes so long to do they didn't have time to make a start today as the insurance took forever to get back to them with their decision on what they wanted them to do. So I won't be able to see my mum again as I have to be here and we didn't get time to go to the agents either so OH is going to pop in tomorrow before his afternoon shift. He said he'd call in at mum's to make sure she is alright as well.

It sounds a right to do your having Ann, it is silly not being able to talk to people on your in-laws behalf. If you try ringing them at MIL when she returns home, she can give permission over the phone for you to talk to them. I've had to do that a few times with my OH if he's been to busy to talk to them himself. It only takes a minutes or two for your MIL to go through the security checks...password etc then they know it's her and are then happy to speak to you. Not sure how you would do it with FIL though.

Glad to hear you have antibiotics now Mel. You should be feeling the benefits of them soon and the strong painkillers will help too.

Nice to hear you had a good day out Jane. Hope your internet plays nicely for you later.

Well, I'd better go and get in the bath before it goes cold. Then sort out dinner, I haven't eaten again today with being so busy......naughty me, so now I'm really hungry. OH was pleased when I told him I'd repaired all his socks. He's been out most of the day.

Frank Report 3 Aug 2015 16:48

Do you want your back washed Gill :-D :-D You have a nice soak and get rid of the aches.

Ann, I can only say "JOBS WORTH" I know they are not sure who they are talking too. But come on, after a few questions they must know you are related. I must say it gets beyond a joke :-( :-( :-(

Jane I had hells own job getting on the web yesterday I had to keep un-plugging everything and leaving it for a while, finally I was able to get on.

We have a nice new BREVILLE Kettle singing on the work top. She was able to get it at either Home Senc# or Dunel#. Anyway is was reduced and she got it for 30.00 odd quid instead of 69 So another good saving.

Cold pork, chips and corn on the cob for tonight, so lot a lot to do. Meat all sliced and on plates, in the oven out of the way of the Bloo#y flies. Oil in the pan with a lid on, and corn out of the fridge. Plates on trays, so we will have it on our laps for a change.

Now watching David Attenborough. NOW THAT'S AN ICON. who will be missed !!!!

Glad the "CHILDREN" enjoyed their run, Cassie will miss her "FRIEND" when she goes home <3 <3 <3 Cuddle for them both please Liz.

The ol' wind has continued to blow all day, now the sun is poking his head out, but still very cloudy.

Mel I have box's of Co-codamol, I could have sent you some down :-D :-D :-D

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Aug 2015 17:15

Ann is'nt all this red tape you have to go through annoying. You would think that Gordon could do something with the authorities as it's his parents and he being the only one. Lots can happen in the time you have to wait for these papers to come through. I don't think I had to wait all that time to get power of attorney for mum but I can't remember how long it took now anyway.

Jane

Jane Report 3 Aug 2015 17:24

Back again :-D.Not sure if all the problem could be to do with Open Reach and lots of other diggings gong on at the top of our road (for the new Primary School)
So as I see there are at least 2 pages of posts I have missed I will apologise now for not commenting on them all lol.It would me for ever and if the internet goes down in the middle I would have the screaming abdabs .
So on just the few posts I have quickly read now
Fiona ,I bet Katherine and Jake feel dreadful for missing the wedding, and especially after buying that new outfit !!!.
Mel did the DR say what was causing the infection?.has he recommended you see the Dentist? I hope now once the antibiotics start working the infection will soon clear. The co codamol should be having an effect now :-D...don't forget to eat plenty of roughage LOL as you may very well get constipated with the codeine.

Ann,if you can impress on OH the damage mentioning the Anniversary to FIL will do,I hope he will take heed :-D.It just isn't worth it and he doesn't want to see his father in another distressed state. As for MIL a tiny white lie won't hurt. She never need know that FIL has not been reminded .A little gift without saying why is a great idea.
You really are having a lot of stress with all the things that need to be signed etc .Lets just hope that the POA hurrys up and comes through. It must be SO frustrating for you both.
Can the Carers give MIL her tablets?I know sometimes the district nurses do that.It will be the same old thing if she is left to take them on her own...she won't :-S :-S.Then it will be back to hospital again !!!!!!.I can see once she is home your phone will be ringing off the hook !!!!!
Gill I think it was a bit off that the drain men didn't tell you they were going.I hope that the work won't take too long for them to do..

Oh Lord that cat has just been stung on his foot by a wasp !!.He was just beside me and must have stood on it.He jumped right over the coffee table !!!!!.I better go and see ...There is always something :-S :-S

Jane

Jane Report 3 Aug 2015 17:48

Here I am AGAIN lol
I'll just keep an eye on Thomas.I rang the vet to see what to do if the sting causes a problem. She said if the pad looks red and puffy to stick in Vinegar. That will be a hoot if I have to do that :-S.Then to keep an eye on any allergic reaction around the neck and throat (re breathing).Fingers crossed he will be ok.I don't fancy an emergency dash to the ves tonight.

Frank we had a lovely day yesterday. The meal was just wonderful. The service great too.Our waiter was called Lucien and he had the most amazing curly waxed moustache :-D :-D.After lunch we went back to Janices and they opened the packages with the zero gravity sunloungers we had giventhem for their Anniversary .They were chuffed to bits :-D or Made Up as I think is Gil's expression :-D.
We were having a chat about holidays and have decided it is time we all had one together as it is many years since we last did that, and that was when the children all came too.So it will be grown up holiday and we are thinking of going to Valencia in the Spring.Hannah's friend is living there now for a year so she will be able to give us some good tips as what area to stay etc.

It is very breezy here and so sticky.I had to have the fan on last night.
Chris had 2 disasters this morning. He was cutting the front hedge and cut through the wire on the hedge cutter. He does that every year !!!.Then when fixing it he sliced his finger with a Stanley Knife.I can't tell you how many plasters he has got through :-S

Hows the new kettle Frank :-D :-D.

Decorator in the morning so we will need to be up and dressed early.
I hope thay have made a start now on Pats roof and that it is not raining.

Better go and check Thomas's paw.He is on the sun lounger :-D

Gillx

Gillx Report 3 Aug 2015 19:01

Poor Thomas, Jane. Hope his paw doesn't get any worse. I remember one of our cats when she was a kitten, she always hurt herself on a Sunday so you can imagine the vet bills we used to have and on one Sunday she got stung too, so after that she was grounded on Sundays LOL.

Yes that is my expression "Made Up" it means the same as chuffed. It's funny how the same meaning can be expressed in different ways around the country isn't it?

Having a holiday all together sounds fun. Lucky Hannah's friend is living in Valencia, she'll be able to tell you about all the best places to visit.

So it's an early morning for you tomorrow then Jane, same here. The drains people want to get here for 8am and are ringing me at 7.45 to let me know they're on their way, so we'll be up early too. Apparently it's going to take all day to sort the drains out as each section takes 2 hours to set. They are putting in a liner but it's like material, then they have to wet it somehow for it to shape itself onto the pipe. They said it will be guaranteed for 10 years so that's not bad. I've just seen the weather forecast for tomorrow and it's going to be rain, I feel sorry for the poor men, I'll be staying indoors where it's dry LOL.

Soaps have just started so I'll get off and watch them now

Evening all,

It's been really warm here today and we've had sun shine all day ,it's now clouded over and some of the clouds are looking quite black!!

Fiona i'am glad your feeling a little better and felt well enough to go shopping ,nice to be treated to lunch too .
What a shame Katherine couldn't go to the wedding, at least they got to the evening do.

Well that was funny the Drain men just going off like that Gill , you would have thought they would have called out to let you know where they were off to !!
It's good they haven't got to dig all the garden up .

Mel, i hope the pain eases for you now you have the antibiotics and the pain killers should help too although as Jane said the codeine can stow you up :-0

Oh dear Ann all this paper work, it must be a real headache for you , form filling is not one of my favourite things.
I wouldn't think it would be a good idea to mention the Anniversary to FIL ,if he's now nicely settled why upset him again .

Another bargain buy Frank good old Ros saving you money , we need a new kettle i see today ours has a leak!!

Oh poor little Thomas i bet he did jump getting stung like that !! my other dog Bonnie use to snap at the wasps and the flies ,luckily she never got stung .
My toes curled up thinking about Chris using the Stanley Knife :-0

Son has to buy a new cooker ,DIL was half way through making a Shephards Pie when the electric went off ,it blew the trip switch ,when she turned the electric back on the oven wouldn't work !! they had been thinking about getting a new cooker as it had been playing up.

Got to pick Chelsea up in the morning ,she is coming to spend the day here ,so it will be another day of making and baking . :-D
