Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 15 Aug 2015 21:52

I have been busy all day today with one thing and another and still did'nt get my sweet peas tied up. I swept half one side of our road late afternoon after making a big met pie for dinner and picking our first amount of runners which went nicely with the pie new tatoes and broccoli, carrot and onion in the pie.Oh had two thirds of it and I had the other third and it was a deep pie too. Still oh said he could eat that all over again.

It is probably the morphine that was making MIL a little muddled Ann.

Oh has been mowing nearly all day now he has this new mower deck. It cuts the grass really well and chops it up and chucks it back into the ground. He even cut the long long grass up the top garden path. I hav'nt been up there for months because I can't walk through the long grass. I shall have to go and have a look in the greenhouse and see if we have any grapes if I can get past the brimbles.

Morning all and evening Kim,

Dry here with some sun.

I was watching an owl in the orchard last night. It was in one of the apple trees hunting for voles I think as it was swooping down to the ground a couple of times.

Did everyone sleep well last night?

Morning all

Nice and sunny here today

Thanks Ann for the link to the website I will take a look when I've posted. I ended up giving Sandra a couple of pairs of new jeans I hadn't worn because they were to big to take in for myself. (3 sizes to big for me) I did need to put a couple of tucks in the waistband for her but she is made up with them.

I was lucky with the jeans I bought for myself the other day, after washing them they shrunk just enough to fit me, and I didn't have to alter them, the legs shrunk a bit to much and only just go to my ankles so I thought I'd wear a pair of stilettoes with them as the legs go to the top of the heals on my shoes. I ended up making a cute little sun dress yesterday for myself from a long skirt I had, it wasn't bad for a first attempt and I'm quite chuffed with the results. I had to make it all by hand so it took me most of the day. OH liked it and said it made a change from me wearing jeans all the time.
I used to buy old curtains and make them into cushions and also made patchwork bedspreads too Ann, but apart from pencil skirts I've never made clothes before, which is why I thought I'd have a go.

Sorry to hear you had another bad night Frank, hope you had a better one last night? Sandra OH and I loved the Flashmob email you sent, we love things like that and ended up watching quite a few online after that.

It sounds like you've had a lovely few days out and about Mandy. I miss living near the coast we used to go to the beach all the time. I remember when we first moved there (October) OH wanted to go to the beach on Christmas Day, it was freezing. I was quite surprised how many people were there, but the summer months were great watching the jet ski's and boats while eating ice cream and chatting with the life guards.

Although once there was a driver who accidently put his foot on the accelerator instead of the break and he ended up in the sea from the road above, luckily someone jumped into the sea and got him out, his car got stuck on the rocks but was clearly a right off. We were at the beach at the time as it was OH's birthday and heard this almighty bang, we ran up to the road and along the beach line, the tide was coming in and rose very quickly so he was lucky someone helped him. There were fire engines and ambulances everywhere. Apparently he lost control of his car somehow and pressed the wrong pedal, went through the barriers and ended up down on the beach.....Quite frightening to see and probably just as frightening for him too.

So all the grass is cut down now Mel, you'll be able to go into all the parts of your garden, now there's no more long grass. Are you going to make some wine with your grapes?

I think Jane's right Ann, your OH just needs to be with his mum now, and have small conversations if she's up to it. Your afternoon out would of done you the world of good, after all the stress you've been through lately. The exhibition sounds very interesting and right up your street. :-)

Off to get a cuppa now

Morning Mel,

How fascinating to see the owl. Yes I slept well last night and even had a lie in this morning, which is a first for me :-D

Frank

Frank Report 16 Aug 2015 12:28

Afternoon all, I feel like saying "GOODNIGHT"

I took JANE'S advise and took TWO SLEEPERS last night at 11.00 pm Still asleep at 9.00 am when Ros bought the tea in. Dozed off again until 10.30 am. I now feel like a ZOMBIE. It has taken my all this time to get the veg done for dinner. I still have to make the Yorkshire pudding and cheese sauce !!! I keep having to sit down ;-) ;-) ;-). I've yet to get myself in the shower and shave. I think I will bet Ros in doors while I do that, in case I topple over. I feel as thought I could sleep on a cloths line :-D :-D :-D Must not do that to often (take two tablets) or I will be in bed all day long.

Have you heard from your sister today Jane ?? how are her family getting on with the holiday. I keep thinking of them poor things <3 <3 <3

The OH will be a "happy Bunnie" now Mel, that he can cut into the "UNKNOWN" and you can go and explore the jungle !!! You never know what you might find up there !!!

Making SUN DRESS's then Gill. Your OH won't know you now you have "LEGS" When Ros puts a skirt on or a dress. I say to her "OH YOU DO HAVE LEGS THEN" She is always in leggings or trousers. Like most women today.

Not sure what the weather will do, it quite dull here this morning. Ros is in the greenhouse cutting back all the leaves on the tomatoes , so the sun can get to them to ripen them off.

Right, Pudding making, then shower.

See you later.

No i haven't heard anything today yet from Janice as she and Larry have gone to London to bring back some bits of furniture and belongings from Matthews(youngest son).He and his Girlfriend are leaving their flat and are going to Colombia ,Argentina unti lFebruary to do Voluntary work.
I do hope that the family are beginning to be able to enjoy their holiday now.But It is going to be difficult .

Gill we will have to call you the Sewing Bee :-D :-D(like that programme)

Just going to have a bite of lunch and then I am cooking this afternoon.

I think I will have half hour in the chair, That might help me to get my bum into gear. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Gillx Report 16 Aug 2015 15:00

Yes Frank, OH was taken aback when he saw me in a dress, he said I looked cute....Bless him. I do wear jeans quite a lot, but have decided to start wearing dresses now as I feel more comfortable and look better. All I need to do is make a few more lol.

I've been taking a look at the website, you gave me the link to Ann. It's great, thanks ever so much, there are so many free patterns and the ones I've seen so far don't look to hard to make. When I start making a few more things I might have to invest in a sewing machine though, it takes quite a while doing everything by hand.

I like "The Great British Sewing Bee" Jane, I wonder when it's back on?
I'm really looking forward to making some more clothes, the dress I made yesterday looks really good, hope anymore I make turn out as well lol.
I did cheat a bit though as it was a long skirt to start with, so I didn't make it from scratch.....that'll be the real challenge, when I make something from scratch using a pattern.

So you've finally had a good nights sleep then Frank? I wouldn't over do it with the sleepers though, just take more every now and then, when you really need them, you don't want to over dose yourself. Jane's right you won't need another sleeper tonight, best to wait until the last lot are out of your system first, or you'll end up sleeping the clock round ;-)

Jane

Jane Report 16 Aug 2015 17:02

Away with the fairies Frank?? You aren't seeing Pink Elephants are you ;-)

Gill I would love to wear dresses, but I just don't feel right in them.Weddings are the only time I wear one.

Well I stink :-S :-S......I have made that Lentil and rice thing again and the sauce to with it.The rice dish has ,Fried Onions, Cinnamon and Nutneg in and the sauce has Garlic,Chillies and Cumin and Fresh Corriander.I am going to have to have a shower and hairwash later.
Just as I had put the second tsp of Cumin in the sauce I knocked the container off the work top and it smashed on the tiles with all the Cumin going EVERYWHERE.
My Flip Flops and Trousers got a good shower of the stuff.I had to wash the floor then after we had swept the glass and brown powder up.
But that is all cooked now thank heavens.I have got a Rotisserie Style Chicken in cooking now to go with the rest and have just sliced up a ton of Runners.

I'm now just going to iron a pair of trousers for James ready for work tomorrow. He isn't home yet from Jess otherwise he could have done them himself.

This dinner better be worth all the hassle it has caused me :-D

I see on Pat's FB the work is making good progress now :-D :-D.That will be a big relief.

Chris is painting in the Summerhouse and homas is on the sun lounger .He doesn't seem to be straying to far these last few days :-D.I would like to think he now realises that he really doesn't need to hunt as he is getting all the food he needs here. But I won't hold my breath lol

Gillx Report 16 Aug 2015 17:29

OH dear Jane, you've had fun today.......NOT. Fancy knocking the Cumin all over the place. Can you put your flip flops in the Washing machine? I have material ones so they're easy to wash if they get dirty. Enjoy your shower, it sounds like you're going to need one lol. I'm sure the meal will be a great success ;-)

I've been looking at the website Ann sent the link for again, it's absolutely brilliant and I've just found another style of dress I can make from a long skirt, it looks like it would only take a few minutes on a sewing machine, pity I don't have one, but still, it wouldn't take long to do by hand either. THANK YOU ANN <3 <3

It'll be nice to have a few different styles of dresses to wear ......just need to find the skirts now, although the dress I've just seen, I know I could make from scratch and I have some dress material I could use as well :-D :-D It's so simple I wouldn't need a pattern either, just some elastic, the material and cotton, all of which I already have ;-) The measurements look quite simple too so I wouldn't need any help in that department either.....bonus.

Thanks Frank for suggesting a hobby, I have lots I can do with my time now. Hope you are feeling a bit better and not so tired <3 ;-)

Jane Report 16 Aug 2015 18:03

Gill it would be nice to see some of your creations :-D.
My flip flops are material ones Gill so I will be able to give them a wash :-D.Honestly though you should have seen the mess !!!!!.It was everywhere.
James is home and said it all smells wonderful BUT he isn't hungry as he had an unexpected ROAST DINNER at jess's Grandparents :-S :-S.......He will probably have some later on but if not it doesn't really matter as there will be plenty left for tomorrow :-D :-D

Mel did you manage to fight your way through the Brambles and find any Grapes in the Greenhouse?.Our vine hasn't grown any grapes at all .But my Sisters has .I saw some nice little bunches when we were down there the other weekend.

We might go to an Auction House this week in Market Harborough.Chris has seen a cabinet thing which would hold his 'Art' paper .We have never been to an Auction before .I think tomorrow is the viewing day and the actual auction on tuesday. If we do go I must remember to sit still and not scratch my nose or head etc LOL.Might end up with all sorts !!!!!!

There was a lovely bit in the Evening Telegraph this week about the opening of Johnny's Place.Frank do you get the ET?Or is it the Chronicle you get there?

We haven't heard from Ruby or Shirl for a while have we..

Hi Jane, I've found my camera now, so I'm hoping Michelle might be able to show me how to put photo's on my laptop when she visits next month. If she can I'll take some photo's and send them to you, I'll have to ask Michelle to show me how to put them into an email, I've only tried putting a photo into an email once before and apparently the pic came out so small the person couldn't see it, plus I can't remember how I did it now LOL......When I know what I'm doing there will be no stopping me :-D :-D

Annx Report 16 Aug 2015 18:56

Evening All,

Oh Frank!! I don't think I would have doubled the dose of your sleepers. Could you just take an extra half of one another time. It sounds like it put you out for the count!! :-0 I hope you soon get back to your old self. :-) By the way, I liked that photo of the 'handsome young chap' you sent. You've not changed all that much ;-) ;-) Also the email of the Friesian horses . I was going to consider one if I'd had another horse. I chatted to a driver of a hearse pulled by them years ago at a collection of horse drawn vehicles and he said how steady and gentle they were.

It's good that Pat's place is progressing now. She will be pleased with that.

Jane what a pong there must have been in your kitchen with all that cumin over it. I put it in soups as I read somewhere it helps burn fat......well every little helps! I hate coriander. I'm sure it's the one that tastes like soap to me. lol. I only ever used cardamom pods once as well. I remember doing lentils with cloves of garlic in many years ago. It was the first time I'd used garlic and I thought a clove was the whole bulb, so you can imagine how that tasted!!! I think we'll have enough beans to pick some tomorrow.

I'm glad you found that site useful Gill. If you just google 'free dressmaking patterns' I'm sure you will find others as well. That's great you have already done a dress.......a bit of success will spur you on. I remember years ago cutting the bottom off a shirt dress to make it a blouse. I cut the sleeves short too. It never seemed to hang right as a dress, but was fine as a blouse. I think I have a photo of me in it somewhere......I'll have a look!

Speaking of photos, I got a cheap gadget from Al*i a while back. You put old 35mm slides or photo negatives in it and it saves them as photos on your computer!! I never expected it to work very well, but it works fine. There's one of me sitting on the bonnet of my car...........I might send it to you all!! lol. I look a right poser and can't remember that I wore skirts as short as that! (it's NOT a pelmet!! lol.)` The trouble is, when I had a clearout in here I threw away some slides I didn't mean to. :-S

No change on the MIL front. She's so muddled, for two days now she's asked OH what he's doing there when he's arrived. She's not in any pain though which is good.

I have booked up for a Saturday bead class next month at the house that sells beads and has nice cakes! They are doing beaded flowers which I fancy trying.

Jane

Jane Report 16 Aug 2015 19:19

Gill you will get the hang of sending pics once Michelle helps you out :-D

Ann,can't wait to see you 'posing' on the bonnet of the car :-D :-D
Yes Pong is the right word here :-S.Not so bad now as all windows and doors have been open :-D.it will be even better once I have had my shower.I just don't think I could stand the smell coming off my hair onto the pillow.
Yes our Frank was quite a handsome chap wasn't he.....Not saying he isn't now of course ;-) ;-)...Are you listening Frank ? :-D :-D

Ann I am not a fan of Coriander either ,but in this sauce it is ok.
Could your OH maybe take a book or paper to read while he sits and visits his Mum?
Just a thought. It is awful trying to think of things to talk about when the other person is not quite on the ball.Have the Hospital said whether she will be staying where she is now or will she be moved to a hospice?

I think I might be having a fairly early night tonight.I had one of Frank's nights last night and feel pretty weary now. :-S

Evening all,

We have had a day pottering about in the garden ,the swimming pool needed a good suction out as the bottom had got a bit bitty and hubby had to give the salt machine a good clean out too with the white vinegar.
I have been out and watered and it's feels quite chilly in the shade my arms felt really cold when i came in !!
It has been a nice sunny day here and sitting out we had to have the garden brolly up .

Oh Jane that poor dog ,it must have been a dreadful sight how awful for them to have to cope with that just before flying off on holiday.
Don't talk about dropping and spilling things ,hubby knocked over a full tumbler of orange the other day ,he made a grab for the glass after knocking it over and down went the glass on the tiled floor , i didn't know what to do first pick up the glass or mop up the drink !! what a mess.
You'll have to keep your hands down at the action or you'll end up with all sorts LOL

Frank ,i don't seem to have the photo of you as a young man :-(
All these sleepless nights your having ,you must be really shattered ,i hope can manage a good night tonight .

Oh so you have the stitching bug now Gill , yes i'd like to see the clothes you have altered too.
Wish i was a size 8 :-(

Ann, if i were OH i would take a book or paper to pass some time while he's visiting ,i expect MIL nods off too with the morphine .
I had a look at the site for the dress making too ,it has some lovely things on there to make .
I have been looking at things to make for christmas ,Debbie Shaw has a nice christmas wreath that i might have a go at making ,no sewing and looks quite easy to do .

Has anyone seen "Father Of The Bride 2" There is a wedding planner on there called Frank who gives the father of the bride a couple of very strong sleeping tablets but forgot to tell him he was only suppose to take half a one....Well, he took the two tablets and when Frank found out he said "Night Night, see you next Thursday" I've just remembered that and was now wondering if it's going to be a while till we see our Frank again.........Sleep well Frank LOL...Only Joking :-D

Thanks for the further advice Ann, I will Google it later <3
Glad to hear your MIL isn't in any pain. Will she stay there now or be moved somewhere else?
I forgot to mention earlier, the website you told me about covers all sorts of different things and there was a section on beading I thought you might like. I'm not sure if you've seen the website fully so I thought I'd mention it incase you hadn't. I remember you telling us about the beading place with the cakes, that will be nice for you to go to.

Yes I'm sure I'll get the hang of sending photo's once Michelle shows me how to do it Jane. I might have a few more dresses made by then so I'll be able to send you pictures of them if they turn out ok.......I'm hoping my first dress wasn't just beginners luck :-S

Gillx

Gillx Report 16 Aug 2015 20:37

Sorry Mandy didn't see you there. I noticed the Christmas section too, but haven't had a proper look at it yet, with looking at the dresses.

So your OH has been knocking things over as well? My OH was only in the kitchen 2 minutes the other day looking for the bathroom cleaner. (We keep it under the sink as it's to big for the bathroom cabinet) Well, he dropped it on the floor so hard that he was covered, the worktops were covered and don't get me going on the floor. Accidents happen though, it's just unlucky for the ones it happens too. Luckily I didn't have any food out at the time, otherwise I probably would of had to throw it away.

Have you had much use out of the swimming pool with all the wet weather we've had lately? It was so hot when you were filling it up, then the weather turned. Well, it did here. What's it been like by you? Let's hope the nice hot weather comes back then you can have a dip before the winter arrives <3

Annx

Annx Report 16 Aug 2015 20:45

I've sent you the email Mandy. Yes I noticed that Christmas wreath too and thought how nice it was.

Gill thanks for mentioning the beading.....I hadn't spotted it! Like most things sending photos is quite easy once you know how and we can always try and help if you get stuck. Michelle will soon help you crack it and then that's another thing you can do. Wish I was a size 8 too. :-S

Jane I was a nervous wreck at the first auction I went to and scared to even blink!! lol.

Well, I'd better send that pic then........no laughing!! lol.

Thanks Ann ,oh Frank you do look handsome ;-) :-D

Nice photo of you too Ann , i can remember wearing short skirts like yours, i had a nice brown mini skirt and i had some of those ribbed short sleeved tops , one was brown with orange stripes and i wore that with the mini skirt .

No Gill we haven't been in the pool since the hot weather a few weeks ago, it would be nice if the weather turned hot so we could go in again, there's still time .
