Well glad to see you are back to normal Jane, Whatever normal is for you. :-D :-D
Mandy we have had cloud all day, it looks like the clouds could bust open but haven't.
I have felt cold this afternoon sitting reading, so I put the heating on for half hour, now I am baking hot.!!!
Jane the Starlings have been like that on my neighbours lawn, I think there are some beetle type things that are hatching, that's what they are after. I haven't seen a woodpecker for ages, we had a regular visitor of one when at Gayton, but that is years ago.
Not only do we have all the live Orchids in the kitchen. IN the porch are the ones that have finished flowering, waiting for them to come into bud again. Then the cycle goes one, that's apart from the ones she sees in the Garden Centre or Tesc#
Have got a carrier bag full of runners in the fridge, so I won't be going short anytime soon. and I still have loads of flowers on the vines. :-D :-D Eat your heart out Jane !!!
Still no sign of the girls returning, Gawd only knows what they find to do all day long.
By the way has anyone heard from David in the last few months ???
I had a nice email from our Kim this morning, she is not well and her visit to the doctor yesterday was not good. :-( :-( :-(
jUST SAW sHIRL ON LINE, I RANG HER BUT THERE WAS NO REPLY. Sorry about caps, The message I left Shirl was in CAPS> !!!
This weather is so depressing, I think I will get myself a COT and a cake.
Hope Liz is well.

will send the clip of the starlings and woodpecker. You will have to look hard to see the woodpecker though as he is the furthest away .I couldn't zoom in as I took it on my phone.
Sounds a bit like Prostate trouble with OH Mandy. It must get so exhausting having to get up so many times in the night.
Frank I have a big bag of Runners and the other Beans too in the fridge.I am hoping to be a able to get through all of them tonight otherwise they will start to go soft and floppy :-D
I have spent a coupe of hours o the colouring book this afternoon and now have cramp in my hand :-S
Thomas has been asleep nearly all day and now seems to be on the roam.
Mel ,maybe if the problem is at your end with the Hoover you should think about getting that new bigger 'box'.It might cure all the leccy troubles.
I did put the washing out in the end but better get it in now as it is beginning to feel damp out there.
David has replied to some email pics recently Frank but not for a few weeks.

Afternoon All,
It's just been very dull here today, but no rain....yet! Glad you had a better sleep last night Frank. I have never had any Orchids. The flowers are beautiful, but they don't look much after they've flowered till the next time.
Both Starlings and Woodpeckers go after the ants so maybe that is what they were after. I've read and seen that Starlings crush the ants and put them between their feathers. The formic acid in the ants is supposed to kill off and fleas or mites the birds have.
It's good you are back to your old self today Jane. Thomas seems to be worming his way in to your bedroom doesn't he. When I was first married I can remember cutting sheets in half lengthways when the middle was worn and turning the outsides to the middle and sewing them back together so the worn bits were at the outside edges. Also making pillow cases from old sheets. I soon got fed up with doing that though, but it did save a bit of money while we were still buying things for the house. I can remember making face flannels from old towels too.
If MIL goes to a nursing home it would depend on which one has room to take her and could be further away still. After OH saw her today he is wondering if it's likely to happen at all, as they said they would only move her if she is able to eat and drink. He said she didn't want any dinner today and can only manage a small sip of water as it makes her out of breath. It's take things one day at a time now I think. He said they had increased her pain medication while he was there today to keep her comfortable. I''ve sorted the redirection of their post to us today and which will start next month, so that's another job off the list! Normally you pay one charge for the household, but because there is power of attorney for one and not the other, we had to pay for each.....nearly £120! :-S Yes Frank, the NEW car doesn't seem new anymore with all the miles he's been doing.
I had my hair cut this morning so that was a nice bit of pampering, especially the head massage :-) It should have been coloured this time, but she got mixed up when she booked the appointment, so I shall have to stay snowy till next time!! lol.
OH has gone north now to a match with one of his pals, so I'm going to start to sort the kitchen drawers and then might have a look at what beads I have to make something. :-)

Well there is no way I will be cutting this sheet up tp make pillow cases or any of the like LOL.It is going to be used to wrap this blasted Indian Rug Hanging that Hannah bought last year .I just don't know what to do with it really. It was under our bed in two bin bags which didn't fit properly.it does need to be kept flat so it gets no creases. So it will go back under our bed yet again.I can never see Hannah takng it back as she will be having to move 'again ' before Christmas .I wish she hadn't bought the blooming thing.
Ann I really can't see MIL leaving hospital .From what you are saying she is becoming much weaker now .I also think at this stage it might be a bit cruel to move her yet again now.She just needs being kept pain free, comfortable and TLC.
Ann your hair looked great clourwise last week. But ohhhh having that lovely head massage would have been so relaxing for you :-D.I could sit for ages having someone do that.

Back from shopping and it's all put away.
Well the Dyson man cme with a big smile on his face and plugged the hoover in and tried it and it went ok!!!! I told him I did'nt use the plug for the kettle but the one on the other sid eof the room next to the microwave. He tried it there and bang out went the leccy. Three times he did it on the first plug and it worked ok then and he said it went ok in his house and left the dirt in it to show me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bloody cheek. He had it all nicce and clean. Anyway he changed everything he could on it down to the wire that runs all the way down from the switch. So thats a new head (another one) new bits inside the ball and every new bit he could put on it and he checked everything with a meter afterwards and it still would'nt work once you put the brushes in motion. When its upright it works so the only thing I can do with it is suck up the cobwebs. I am going out sometime this week and buying another one but it won't be a Dyson...... :-| :-| :-| :-| :-| :-| :-| :-| :-| :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P
Ann it dos'nt sound as though MIL will go anywhere else now and I think she is better off where she is with the care she is getting there. At least you know she is getting all her meds as they won't let her miss one. That was a lot to have the post redirected. They charge so much for everything nowadays don't they?
We have'nt heard you say you have done any beading for a long while with all this going on around you. Take time out for yourself and have a nice look at your beads. After all G has gone off to a match and forget about everything for a while. Wish you were nearer to me so we colld have a get together.
Frank good that you had a better night last night to catch up on some lost sleep.
Just to annoy you all it is still blazing sunshine here and hot with it but tomorrow I think we are in for rain again.
Ann has already said about the woodpeckers and starlings eating the ants. They do that up the top of our garden by the top arch every year but this year we have Jays doing it. I hav'nt seen the green woodpeckers this year.

Forgot to say I got an email from David the other day. This is what he said about his leg " The doctors and surgeons have discharged me. I've a leg that will not, cannot bend. It is straight and inflexible. The bone is also septic, inoperable." He said his wife is doing well with her 'new' knees.
That must be really annoying for your hubby Mandy, having to keep getting up at night. I've noticed OH seems to be 'up' more than he used to be.

That's exactly what OH did! and it was prostate trouble. It needed an operation but four years later he is absolutely fine. He has to have a check every six months, but apart from that, no problems. I would get it checked out though, both of you, as it's so easily dealt with, but not advisable to leave. Not a bad day here, but looks a bit grim tomorrow!!

YES JANE, I know what you mean about going all "FLOPPY" is that because they are in the FRIDGE LOL LOL :-D :-D I try to keep mine warm ;-) ;-) ;-)
Ann, For what it's worth. I had my DAD home for Christmas, then he went back into hospital. From there on in he had MORPHINE injections, as he came out from one they would give him another until he died 4.00 am 30th Jan 1958. Even then the nurse straddled him and tried to bring him back. I had to lift her off of him. I said leave him in peace. With hindsight I suppose she was doing her job.
You and your dyso# Mel. Could it be the plug that is the trouble, and not your Dyso# ??? Don't you get burnt in all that SUN. Honestly we haven't seen a glimpse of the SUN all day, and it still looks threatening.
I'm pleased that David is still in contact. I must try to remember to send him some "funnies" as I get them through.
Have you had to give THOMAS any tablets Jane. ?? Follow the instructions on the email ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D :-D I'm still smiling at that one.
Mandy I suppose it's part of the job, being off because of the weather. You don't expect to lose days in August !!!
Oh how I remember my mum cutting the sheet down the middle and sewing it up again when turned around. Turning collars, when they were worn through. Darning socks using the "MUSHROOM". When I darned socks in the RAF I used my China Mug. back and forth across the hole then across the other way. I bet I could still do it today, but I bet I would prick my finger :-D :-D :-D
Out again the evening. European football on SK#. Two nights on the trot. Ros is pleased I am going out. She says it makes me better tempered. !!!

Yes I remember sides to middle Frank! Turning collars and cuffs! leather on elbows of jackets, and darning sox. I've never done any of these things! but my mother did, my school sheets lasted all the time I was there (six years) but all three pairs had been side to middled!! My Granny was the one for making garments last for ever!! like you Gill, taking in, up, alterations from adult clothes to children's! there was no end to it!!she did live through two world wars though, so I guess needs must!! Mel, it sound more like a plug problem and not your Dyson! I love mine, it's only ever gone wrong once in six years and that was easily fixed, I wouldn't change it for anything else.

Have you tried putting your beans in a poly bag and wraping it around them and putting them in the salad draw. I do that with mine if I don't have enough or my first MIL used to wrap them in damp newspaper and pop them in the salad draw. It also straighens bent ones (beans). ;-)

Morning all
Where is everyone? Am I the only one on this morning?
Lovely and sunny again here today, although it is forecast to rain later on which will do the garden some good after all the sun we had yesterday. I've watered the greenhouse plants and a few pots on the patio today, but thought I'd leave the rest incase it does rain later.
All this talk about sheets and beans, lots of good ideas though ;-)
I've never altered sheets like that before, never heard of it, but it's handy to know for the future. I also put my beans in a bag in the fridge, although they're not there long enough to curl, so can't comment myself on weather it works or not.
Did you manage to get a good nights sleep Jane with putting Thomas out for the night? That'll make a nice change for you if you did?
Hope you've had a better night sleep too Frank, without having to take extra sleepers. Remember how you felt last time you did that? You don't want to be doing that again in a rush lol.
I spent all day yesterday trying to take some sleeves off a lace top, what a job that was, thankfully it's all done now as I want to use the lace for a dress I have. Since I lost all the weight I prefer to have a higher neckline on the dresses I'm altering, so hopefully the lace will work.
I have quite a few dresses but they are all one or two sizes to big for me now, so I'm keeping myself busy altering them all. I've decided to use elastic for the waist's so if ever I put the weight back on I can just replace the elastic with a bigger piece. Hopefully that'll work and give me a bit of a fuller skirt too as I like them like that. The length of some of the dresses are quite long so I'm also going to shorten them to the knee as I prefer that length with being small. So it's more sewing for me today :-D
Off to grab a cuppa now then read the rest of the posts I missed yesterday BBL

Good morning to you all, Evening Kim.
We have a bit of sunshine this morning (only a little bit) :-( :-( But still plenty of black clouds around.
I must try that Mel, I have never tried wrapping them in damp paper (BEANS) lol
I slept from Midnight till 8.00 am then Ros bought in the tea. I had the radio on, and got up at 9.00 am.
She has taken the car for the service and Tony bought her back. They will ring when it's ready . How are the In Laws this morning Ann ?? Thrust they both had a peaceful night.
My hair is so long, I could put it in Plates ;-) ;-) ;-) I must get Ros to take me to my little Asian Girl and get it sorted. I don't like all this grey hair growing through, it makes me look old. LOL
What are you all up to today ??

Morning all and evening Kim,
Dull and light rain here today so it seems I have what you lot had yesterday. Have you got my sunshine?
I had some hints this morning from Ancestry and someone has my gt grandmother on their tree and an uncle. I have an Ancestry tree but the Family Tree Maker is not on this pc. I think I will get intouch with the tree owner as she has my nan down as Mary May as it appears on one census but should be Edith May. She has a comment about the 1911 census saying is this her?

Did you not see me Frank, I posted just before you.
It's started raining a little now, so I'm glad I didn't water the whole garden earlier, if it rains heavier it will save me a job later ;-) ;-) ;-)
I'm doing some more sewing today Frank. Would you like some ribbons for your long hair LOL, I have all sorts of colours, just let me know what colour you'd like ;-).
Good idea for your hubby to see a doctor Mandy, you can't be to careful with things like that. Hopefully it won't be anything to serious <3 Hope all goes well for Chelsea on Friday, good job she's the tough one ;-)
Gosh, that's a lot of money to pay to have the post re-directed Ann, I didn't realised it cost that much. So your OH thinks his mum might stay where she is for the time being. At least she'll be looked after and have her meds on time each day. How is your FIL doing? How are you getting on with the beading/Jewellery website I passed on to you, started anything new yet?
It sounds like it's your socket Mel, rather than your hoover, maybe you could have it checked out then your leccy might stop tripping out. Have you tried using a different socket for your hoover to make sure? Have you been in touch with the Ancestry tree member yet. Glad you've found a tree match. You never know where it might end up.
I was reading through some of your earlier posts this morning, from before I joined you and the story when you all helped, after Fitz reading the letter was very interesting. (About 5 years ago I think) How did it all go in the end? I'd love to know Jane, if you don't mind me asking?
Well, my cuppa's getting cold, so I'd better go and drink it BBL

Afternoon All,
Lovely sunshine here but it's supposed to rain later. Must remember to get the washer on later as it should be fine again tomorrow.
Frank, my first MIL and grandma both used to turn collars to double the wear.....not an easy job! Both my in laws have 'do not recussitate' orders in place so that awful experience you had with your father shouldn't happen.
Liz, I think OH's getting up at night may be more to do with him getting into the habit of drinking a big glass of water last thing!! He always looks for toilets before me when we are out too but he's always been the same. He had one of those PSA tests years ago which was fine then. It's something to be mindful of though as you say.
We visited FIL this morning, never sure what to expect, but he was finishing breakfast and waved as soon as he saw us. He's very slow with his walker now, but still gets about which is good. Very happy to see us again and seemed very peaceful like last time. We took a photo of his nephew's daughter who lives in Scotland and has just graduated with first class hons. We were careful to ask him if he wanted it or for us to save it and he was happy for us to save it, He was telling us about the games they play and that he likes the food, but the helpings are big and he doesn't want to get a big tummy with not getting as much exercise now!! lol. He wanted to know if we were ok and settled, asked a few times and I think he'd had it in his head before that OH was on his own. He seemed happy that we were ok. He told us he is fine there and had no grumbles and again he never mentioned his house or MIL so we didn't either. Maybe the medication is helping. At least for the time being it is less to worry about. He doesn't even follow us to the door when we go now.
OH has gone to see his mum now and I'm going to take something back to a shop next.
The redirection is for a year for both of them Gill. We thought it best to make it a year. You must feel a spring in your step with your house off the market for a while. You will be able to concentrate on your sewing without the possibility of viewings!!
Mel, does the leccy go off even using your Dy*on on different sockets? If so I hope the next hoover isn't the same as they all seem to be more powerful these days. I sorted more in the kitchen yesterday and threw away 3 carrier bagsful so goodness knows how many things were way past their sell by date in there.......more than 20 I would think!! There's just one more cupboard and the cupboard under the sink to do now.
Well, better get my skates on now.......BBL

I started wire brushing down the garage door. and the posts. Ros got the masonry paint out and did the posts, and washed down the garage door, It's ready for the metallic paint to go on now. If it's dry in the morning I might make a start.
I was thinking of "SKY BLUE PINK! for ribbon for my hair Gill.
