Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Aug 2015 08:53

I meant to say I had the dreaded Error page this morning!!!

Gillx

Gillx Report 21 Aug 2015 10:28

Morning all

Raining here and very cloudy, so I doubt we'll see any sun today.

So it's a long job then Mel? Good idea to raise the sides rather than digging down though ;-)

I had that dreaded Error page the other day, it wouldn't let me go to the end of the thread which is how I noticed Fitz's letter as I had to go through the thread page by page. It's so annoying and time consuming when you're on such a large thread, but I got there in the end and thankfully all has been ok since for me. Hope everything is ok for you to now <3

5.30 is very early Pat, you're going to be shattered by lunch time :-( How is Cass can't she keep Millie company, or is a toilet break Millie needs? I know Cass is a quick learner but I don't think she can help you there LOL. Hope Millie settles soon then you and Alan can get a bit more sleep.
So the builders are still on a go slow then? The bad weather won't help either. Let's hope it improves soon so at least the roof can be finished. Good idea to let them know the date you need it finished. Do you think it'll be finished in time?

I've got a busy day ahead of me today, I've got to empty our bedroom of some of it's furniture ready for OH to paint in there. I was going to do it over the weekend but then realised the F1 is back on, so have decided to do it today instead.
The wardrobes are fitted into the corner of the room so they can just be covered with a few dust sheets and once I take the few things I have from under the bed that can just be pushed into the middle of the room, so there's only a few chest of draws to empty and move into the spare bedroom. I'll have to ask Sandra for some help to lift them out later. She's still asleep and OH is in work.

Going to grab a cuppa then make a start.

Annx Report 21 Aug 2015 10:40

Morning All,

The sun is shining here and no rain forecast for today. I think it's supposed to be 27 degrees and storms tomorrow....too hot for me! We seem to have had quite a good summer here, just not been able to make the most of it as things are. OH has gone to the hospital now, two of MIL's great nephews are travelling down from Lincoln later to see her today.

I wasn't well last night, right out of sorts with burning cheeks and headache, yet my hands and feet were freezing. It must have been a bug I think as a few 'trots' to the white friend made me feel better. Didn't sleep much though. Then this morning I thought OH was a while getting in the shower......no wonder......stone cold!! So, a cold shower it was! No hot water either and the rads won't heat up, so it looks like I will have to ring the man who did the service next. I just have the feeling we will need a new boiler!!

Hi Iris and welcome! Your little dog was a character by the sound of it and another favourite breed of mine the Manchester Terrier. I always fancied having a Doberman and Manchester Terrier as they look so alike and have my favourite black and tan coats! lol. I seem to remember having a Post Office set, but not the sweet shop. I remember having a chocolate smoker's set one Christmas too. Yes, I'd forgotten about making pencil rubbings of coins! I had the cut out doll and clothes too. Mine were in a book of thick card and you cut them out and had to watch you didn't cut the little tabs off the top of the clothes where they hooked over. No Barbies or Cindys when I was young, walkie talkie dolls seemed to be the thing then and I had one of those. I remember it didn't walk very well and said 'mama' when you tipped it forward and it's eyes opened and shut. It had very realistic pink plastic baby shoes and socks and a blue silky dress. The curly blonde hair was glued on with a glue that looked like that brittle toffee!! lol

Frank, I think you should forget the steps till Ros is around!

That's great news Pat and something that's done and dusted now. It's much better to manage a while than hold things back. It might spur the builders on once you are 'there' and waiting for them too.

Better brace myself for a very quick, very cold shower now!!

Silly me Mel, of course Cass is Liz's dog, she even has a photo of her :-D Sorry about that Pat, there are so many dogs names on here I got a bit confused :-S

Sorry to hear your boiler is broken Ann......a cold shower, I don't envy you, that'll wake you up. Hope you are feeling a bit better today, there are quite a few bugs around at the moment, OH and I have had colds for the past few days, so have had quite a few early nights as it makes you feel so tired.

Sandra woke up just after I posted on here, but then Rosie wanted her breakfast and has only just finished, so I haven't made a start on the bedroom yet, must get to it. See you all later and sorry again for the doggie mix up <3

Frank Report 21 Aug 2015 11:30

Morning all, WELCOME IRIS, Evening Kim,

Brrrrr I can just feel that cold water running down my back. ;-) ;-) ;-) I bet you will soon wrap up in a big towel to warm up. Why not jump back into BED ???

I have been to the shed and garage and got the tools I need, and the STEPS. Now I feel knackered, so having a break before I start.

Ros has just made my day by saying. "If you spoil the covers, don't worry I will buy some MORE" Anyone would think I am a imbecile (NO COMMENT)

You girls with your memories leave me well behind. Cut out dolls etc. I have said before the only toy/game I remember was the "BLOW FOOTBALL" We made out own enjoyment playing in the streets and up Drapers Hill./Millman's Hill. Mel will know it. !!!

Poor Lewis didn't get all the pass's he needed, so not sure where he goes from here. He must be dis -hearted as he worked so hard with all his revision. I will have to treat him to something, for all his hard work :-( :-( :-(

Ann send some of the sunshine down here, It's cloudy and windy, with no sign of SUN.

Iris, Where do you hail from and without being rude HOW OLD are you. ??? Welcome to my HAREM. I seem to be getting more and more :-D :-D :-D (STANDARD JOKE WITH THE GIRLS)

I am going to start now on my building PROJECT LOL :-D :-D :-D :-D

I had a walkie talkie doll one Christmas too. She had yellow hair in plaits and I called her Peggy.

Think I would have had a good wash if the shower was'nt working.

I bought my Barbie doll when I was 16!!!! I still have her.

Jane Report 21 Aug 2015 12:29

Afternoon all
Well the Plumber could find NO Leak in the loo........I reckon one of the men must have missed or else the cat was to blame LOL So it is a mystery.

Oh poor Lewis.I am sorry he didn't get the grades he was hoping for.It must be so disheartening after putting all the hard work in.Maybe he can resit the ones he needs to get better grades on.

Pat that is great news. You will be counting the days down now :-D :-D

Ann that is a bummer ,no hot water.Do you have an emersion switch you can use in the mean time..I hope you are feeling ok today after a bad night with tummy trouble.Probably one of these 12hr things.

Mel this is sounding like major work now on the pond !!!!!.That will keep OH out of mischief :-D

Mandy it is so muggy here too.I am finding it really uncomfortable.Tomorrow is sounding worse :-S.I think it will be fan on in the bedroom tonight.

Gill ,Fitz is coming up in a minute and he will go through what I will tell you :-D.Just bare with me for a day or so.

I was just about to go and get my Eyebrows tidied .Good job I checked the appointment card as it says the 28th.But I had written it up for today on my calender. :-S :-S..What a twit.

I better go and get some cheese and cold meats out .I hope Fitz isn't expecting a feast.

Iris I am looking forward to more of your memories
:-D :-D..Love the Sunday name for Rip LOLOL

Annx Report 21 Aug 2015 12:42

Brrrr the shower was freezing. I wash my hair in the shower every day too Mel, so I thought it would be easier. I just waved bits of me under the water to rinse though and luckily short hair doesn't need much rinsing. Mind you I think a wash will have to do tomorrow if it isn't fixed. I can't face that every day!! lol I'm waiting for the boiler man who serviced it a couple of weeks ago now. He said he should be here in a couple of hours. I just hope he can fix it. It's a good idea for your OH to make the pond deeper being as he needs to sort the leak out Mel, then he won't need to worry about the fish if we get a bad winter. How big do Koi grow?

Yes, I tend to get tummy problems as well when I worry Mandy so it might have been that as well. I always had problems if I had to do talks or there were exams at work. It's gone very muggy here too. I picked a load of runners just now and there are plenty more to come. I must freeze some of the tomatoes too.

Something I remember doing at grandma's was making peg dolls! She always used the wooden, push on pegs, never the sprung ones and they had a round wooden shape ideal for a 'head' at the end. A face could be drawn and wool strands stuck on would make the hair and a bit of material could be wrapped around for the dress with more wool to make a belt. She also showed me how to do french knitting using a cotton reel with tacks in the end. She also showed me how to do proper knitting and my first effort was a doll's scarf in brown wool. It was quite lacey from dropped stitches!!

New cereal packets were always looked forward to for the toy inside or the game or mask to cut out on the back. I remember having a plastic deep sea diver in one that you put baking powder in and then bubbles would appear under the water like a real diver. Sets of cards to save from tea packets. I was always trying to make things, skis from planks of wood, tieing old round bed springs on my feet to jump up and down. Mum and dad were always saying 'you'll break your neck!'

Gill, I have some skirting boards that could do with a lick of paint. Why is it that wall paints stay nice and white, but wood paint doesn't.

I wonder if Chelsea has had her tooth out now and whether Jane is leakfree again.

Gillx

Gillx Report 21 Aug 2015 12:50

STOP Frank DON'T DO IT, you'll be sorry :-D Wait for Ros, if you have a fall on your own there's no one to help you. You do worry us all. PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

Sorry to hear Lewis didn't get the results he wanted, maybe he can do some re-sits, it would be a shame to waste all those hours of revision and at least the next time round he'll know what to expect. I hope it all turns out ok for him.

How funny was that not being able to smoke or drink alcohol :-) Glad it all went to plan Mandy. Gold star for Chelsea, me thinks ;-) <3

Don't be put off by Frank, he's a very funny man and means no harm, he's like that with all of us Iris. It would be nice to hear back from you and to hear some more memories you might have.

I remember having a big doll that walked, but it didn't walk very well. Later models were much better.

Yes the dress altering is on hold for a few hours Mandy and I'll be having a hot bath when I've finished moving all the furniture, then I'll get back to it while I watch the practise runs for the F1 I recorded earlier, just to get back into the swing of things. I've really missed it and I'm looking forward to the race on Sunday.

Sandra and I have just moved a really heavy chest of draws almost the full length of the bungalow, it took us over half an hour it was that heavy and I'd emptied it first. Hopefully the rest of the furniture will be a bit lighter. I'm having a cuppa now before I carry on.

Gillx

Gillx Report 21 Aug 2015 13:09

Thanks Jane, there's no rush. Sorry just noticed yours and Ann's posts.

So there's no leaks then Jane, how strange. I think if it was Thomas you'd know by the smell. Just keep an eye on it and see how things go. Good job you checked your appointment card, it saved you having to go out in the muggy weather.

Hopefully you'll be able to have a hot shower tomorrow Ann if your plumber can fix the problem. You're very brave. I don't think I could have a cold shower, especially with having hair to my waist. I'd be a block of ice by the time my hair was rinsed ;-)

OH has found a gloss paint that doesn't go yellow and is also low on the fume smells it gives off to. I'll ask him the name of it when he gets in from work and let you know what it is. The paintwork has just got a bit dirty over time and hasn't cleaned up very well when I tried. It's the ceilings and walls that need a fresh coat of paint more than anything, as OH has decided to put the bungalow back on the market in a month or so after Michelle has visited and the new agents will want to take their photos.

I remember the toys in the cereal packets too, I had a sky diver with a parachute attached, you through it up in the air and it floated down to the ground, not a bad little toy for free. I think they stopped putting toys in food products a while ago because of health and safety :-( I could be wrong though.

Well, I've finished my cuppa so I'd better get back to the furniture removing, OH finishes work in a hour and I'd like to have it finished before he gets home.

I'm still here, WAITING FOR THE AMBULANCE :-D :-D :-D :- ONLY JOKING

I started off in jogging bottoms and T shirt. Off came the T shirt, then the jogging bottoms, so down to my u/pants and sweating like a trouper.

The plastic boxing has clips that screw to the wall, and you press the boxing to make it hold on the clips. NOT MY LUCK. The pipes were held to the wall by clips that protruded further out than the box clips. So I had to remove all the pipe clips (16) and refit the box clips (10) the boxing had to be cut to go round the drain tap and the pipes up to the towel rail. So I am about Bugger## now.

There's mess everywhere now, so I will leave that for Ros to clear up !!!. I've got my tools together ready to go back in the shed when I put some cloths on, don't want to surprise the neighbour, with me going down the garden like I am now. It might give her the wrong idea :-D :-D :-D

If anyone needs a handy man you know where I am, my hourly rate is not bad either. !!!!

Off for a HOT shower now, and get dressed.

Jane I bet it was one of the boys missed the "TARGET" after a few beers/wines. Don't blame poor old THOMAS. !!! It reminds me of the CURR#'S advert where the chap pours water on his laptop and then puts the dog on the table and blames him. Poor little face on the dog :-D :-D :-D

Still very cloudy and windy here, but oh so stuffy and muggy.

No news is good news this morning Ann. I trust everything is O.K.

Mel, I suppose three foot six inches isn't deep enough if the fish are that big. Plus if, and I mean IF you get a real heavy frost it might freeze right to the bottom of the pond. My little pond was five foot deep, and I kept the pump on throughout the winter.

I am really off now, see you later.

Gillx Report 21 Aug 2015 13:56

Just finished emptying under my bed ready to move the bed and found my DVD "Life of Pi" that William was telling us about the other day, so now I can watch it. I thought I'd packed it up in the loft. I'm really happy now :-D Pity I haven't got time to watch is now, it'll have to wait a few days :-( Never mind it's something to look forward to.

Well, back to my jobs, OH will be in soon and I've still got two more chest of draws to move ;-)

Annx

Annx Report 21 Aug 2015 13:59

We always have the heating OFF in the summer, but I'd put it on to try it this morning and the radiators didn't warm up. When the boiler man came and did the same, everything worked...............so I felt a twerp too Jane!! lol He thinks it is probably an intermittent fault to do with the switchboard behind the clock. That will be expensive anyway so now we need to decide whether to risk it being a 'one off' thing or shell out for a new boiler.

OH has just rung and is on his way so we are going for a bite to eat when he gets home.

Gillx

Gillx Report 21 Aug 2015 14:08

Waiting for the Ambulance Frank, you are funny. At least the job is done now. These things always sound better in your head don't they? But doing the jobs are so different. I thought moving a few chest of draws and a bed was going to be easy, but forgot how heavy everything was. Yes I'd put some clothes on if I was you, you don't want to frighten the neighbours LOL

I really must get on and move the rest of this furniture now. OH will be in soon so I don't want it unfinished, as he doesn't know I'm doing it today ;-)

Cloudy day here, but a bit brighter now. We took Cassie for a long walk this morning and now she has crashed!! Both gardening this afternoon, then shall watch 'A life in squares on my kindle. Watched Jane Seymour on WDYTYA last night. I think it was one of the saddest ones we've seen.
