Afternoon all

It's been raining quite hard here all morning and has only just stopped. Very cloudy so I expect more rain is on it's way.

I've emailed you the name of the paint Ann. Sorry to hear you don't qualify for a Grant, boilers aren't cheap are they? You're right though you don't want to be without hot water and heating when the winter sets in, so it's best to get a new one now and have peace of mind.
Glad to hear your MIL was a bit brighter and managed some porridge :-)

Your mum sounds such a lovely person and funny too with her pegs Iris. You said you were brought up in Cheshire, if you don't mind me asking where about in Cheshire? I was brought up in the Cheshire area too. Ellesmere Port. Do you know it? I haven't lived there for almost 10 years now, but I remember it was quite good for shops ;-)

The story of the little girl was so cute Mel. It does sound like she has a lot of pocket money, unless she is very good at saving.
I never had a cowboy outfit when I was younger, but I do remember playing hospitals with my dolls and teddies. My mum was a nurse so that's probably where I got it from.

Sorry to hear you've had problems with your screen Frank. Hope it works properly next time you try.

OH has decided to take the wallpaper off the bedroom ceiling, it was on there when we moved in and up to now he's just painted it, but he didn't like it so it's coming down. I've noticed there are a few cracks in the ceiling so I'm going to fill them when he's finished, then he can paint the ceiling on Monday when he's off work.

Going to sort the washing out now

OH's just told me Ann, that it might be a good idea, the first time you use the paint, to use an undercoat as it reacted to the other type of paint (the ones that go yellow over time) the first time he used it. It says on the tin you don't need an undercoat but it would give you a barrier between the two different paints, then each time you re-paint in the future you wouldn't need the undercoat. OH sanded all the paintwork down before undercoating and now uses this brand all the time without the need to undercoat first. Hope you find it as good as we do <3

Thanks for that Gill and the tip about using it the first time. I've replied to your email.

Frank I had trouble posting this morning as it kept saying there was an error. Then it posted twice and then I had to try several times to delete the second posting.

This morning I think I've been what mum used to call my sister.....Dolly Daydream! I went to a salad bar where you fill a container with scoops of what you fancy, but it didn't look fresh enough to me so I gave it a miss. They'd also sold out of the paper I wanted, so off I went forgetting I needed a lettuce as I hadn't got the salad. I thought then that I could get one in the village when I got the paper. Well I got the paper, but again walked out without a lettuce!! lol. I think I might just do a few new potatoes instead to go with what we have now!! :-) Some of the shops are nicely cool but others are like walking into a furnace.

That sounds like a lot of dressing up dresses Mel. I don't think I ever possessed that many ordinary dresses at one time as a child. My dresses were always bought too big so they'd last and had the hems turned up, as did my coats. I hated it when my favourite clothes became too small........mind you I still do!! :-S

MIL isn't allowed to get out of bed Mel, she's too weak now, she was sitting up in bed. OH said she was down again today and had difficulty talking so he only stayed about 20 minutes as she was wanting to sleep.

Gillx Report 22 Aug 2015 15:08

I remember being a bridesmaid when I was three and having a lovely long lemon dress with lace over it. After the wedding I used to wear it to parties and was so upset when it didn't fit me anymore :-( My mum still has the photo of me wearing it.
Dolly daydream......I haven't heard that expression for a long time. I think we all have days like that Ann, but given your circumstances at the moment it's no wonder you are a bit forgetful. I'm sure the new potatoes will be just as nice.

I'll go and read your email now :-)

Afternoon all,

Phew it's so hot today even with the strong breeze ,to hot to sit out so we are sat in front of the fan.

Iris i am still smiling about your mums " Happy Valley " :-D :-D :-D
I had a bow and arrow made from the trees in our garden ,i also had a pop gun that dad would make from i think Elder ,it would fire out acorns !!

The girls have a few dresses to dress up in but they keep them mainly for things they dress up for in school ,they cost a small fortune when you add the cost up of each one , last week they emptied out their money boxes and had a count up , they had nearly £200 between the four them, Lewis hasn't got a money box yet ,i told son they should really put it in their accounts and not have it about in the house !! it's surprising how it adds up.

Funny you should say about lettuce Ann, i bought one the other day ,when i got home i had already got one in the fridge i had bought a few days before !! hubby said i wondered why you were getting another so quick ....why the heck didn't he say some thing at the time !!
It was his fault as he hurried me round the shop and i just got what i thought we needed !! :-D :-D but we didn't need lettuce :-D :-D
We like those salad trays you can fill up in Morri*ons i like the pasta with the spicy chicken and the couscous with the feta cheese .

We're having salad tonight i made a Cheese and Onion Quiche yesterday and there is half left for tonight .

Little Dolly Daydream dancing al the day..........

I was called that too by mum.

Think I was that this morning too as I went up the shop for my paper, the only one I have during a week. Browsed the shop and selected a nice small farmhouse loaf, a packet of the new Ritz crisps and a very small bar of choc and some of their lovely scones and the cornish butter I like. When I go in the shop on Saturday the girl always gets my paper out ready for me. Had a natter to a friend I hav'nt seen for donkeys yonks, paid my bill and went home. Unloading the bag .............you've guessed it NO PAPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-| :-| :-| Phoned the shop as it was nearly closing time and had to go back for it. I was cross as you can imagine.

Well the suns come out here and its really warm so I better go and clean the chickens out and get up the border and plant the diathus I bought the other day.

Sod the washing up from lunch as it will still be there when I cone back in.......

Oh is mowing.

Aftrenoon All

My word it is so hot here.Stifling !!!.Hannah and I went down to the village Old Forge for breakfast this morning. We sat outside and enjoyed Scrambled Eggs and Bacon on some delcious wholemeal seeded toast and a nice big pot of tea.The feilds at the back of the forgebelong to Barton Hall and something called the Iron Run was on.Lots of things going on there and hundreds of cars .Loud music and some lovely smells of various foods .
Then we went to Tesc* for a few bits, and Nex* as Hannah wanted a pair of shorts.Luckily she managed to get some.We then came home to drop off the food shopping and went off to Johhny's H Place. All the roads were so busy with people standing or sitting .We realised then it was Carnival day.I have never seen Kettering so buzzing and it was nice to see :-D :-D.Saw Johhny's Mum and Sister and had a cool drink.Hannah bought some cakes to take to her freinds tonight.
James and Jess have gone with friends to play Frisby Golf. Not sure exactly what that entails.Chris has dug up all the Onions and strung them up outside the Summerhouse.

I love 'Happy Valley' Iris :-D :-D.What a great description for you Mums 'ample bosom ' :-D :-D
How on earth did you manage to balance on the Beano on just one roller skate???.Those metal ones were lethal.I remember often the nut underneath would get loose and the skate would suddenly come adrift.
My Dad made me stilts too.I loved them :-D I have a photo of my old Dolls Pram somewhere. It was grey and looked like it came out of the Ark lol
Angela was my walky talky doll with the most dreadful yellow synthetic hair!!.Gradually over the years her rubber face turned a very sickly yellow. So with the yellow hair and yellow face she actually looked a very poorly doll :-S

I thought you might be in Scotland when you mentioned about blethering :-D I was born in Greenock in 1954 then adopted and grew up in Plymouth.

I am being summonsed by Chris outside.......Now are we going to get a storm later??
It feels a bit like it.

Annx

Annx Report 22 Aug 2015 16:49

Yes, stifling is the word, the car showed between 30 and 32 degrees earlier. We've just had a nice downpour but it didn't last many minutes, not long enough for me to cool off in it. I think you mean summoned Jane, summonsed means something entirely different and I don't think Chris would be doing that! It sounds like you have had a busy day. I was amazed when I went out to water the wall pots and the heat hit me. I've had the curtains closed and windows shut here and it is cooler in than out now, but I was hot just doing the salad.

Annx

Annx Report 22 Aug 2015 17:16

OH's just got home and said he can't believe how much hotter it is here than near Market Harborough where he's been.

Just having some nice cooling icecream. :-D

Jane

Jane Report 22 Aug 2015 17:44

Summoned thats it Ann :-D :-D.He wanted me to go and look at the Onions hanging up.Have to say they look great ,especially all the Red ones.I must take a pic of them.
Poor Thomas doesn't seem to know what to do with himself in this heat.he keeps moving from one place to another.Came in for food and just had a couple of mouthfuls before wandering off again.
Last night was so funny.(well I thought it was) I woke about 12.30 thinking I could hear scratching on a door.I lay there for a bit but then got up to see if Thomas had been shut in either James or Hannahs rooms. So I gently opened their doors without going in and did the "puss puss" thing.Nothing .So then I go downstairs to have a look ,even opened the back door in case he had been sctarching on that to come in..Nothing.By this time James was up and Hannah awake !!.Chris had got up for a wee.
No sign of the cat.So I went back up to bed and discovered he was fast asleep on the bottom of our bed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.He was the only one in the house asleep :-S :-D
I wasn't everyones favourite person..But I hadn't imagined the scratching.Hannah said she thought he had been scratching on her shut door.

I see there has been a dreadful aircrash during an airshow in Shoreham killing 7 people :-( :-(.There often seems to be some disaster at these airshows.I would never go to one.Although I did go as a child.

I am looking forward to Casualty.I am not sure if it is a 2 nighterI think it is going to be a sitting on the edge of the seat time and maybe quite a tear jerker.

It is too hot to think about cooking .But I know I can't get away from it.So easy option is Meatballs and Spag for Chris and James.Jess and I will have Moroccan Lamb Pin Wheels with our beans and Broccoli .I just hope Jess won't want potatoes. She is like a little whippet but has the appitite of a horse.

Ann I often find I buy salad stuff and then see I already have plenty of the same in the salad drawer :-S :-S.Lettuce is usually the thing.

The sun is out again but then it clouds over.I am just waiting for the weather forecast to see if we need to get the candles out ready in case we lose electric if there is a storm
.

Jane

Jane Report 22 Aug 2015 18:20

I can't believe how much hotter it must be where you are Ann..I bought some more Icecream today :-D..That will be pudding :-D.It is an icecream from Ald* and has 4 flavours in it.Just subtle and not too strong.I am not the biggest fan of icecream but this is really nice.
Thomas has just come in AGAIN.
How are Toby,Cass,Millie and Mocha all coping with this heat? Bet Cassie loves her new toy Liz :-D.

Gill it would be lovely to have a little bit of your rain.I would happily stand out in it at the moment :-D
Dolly Daydream :-D..I was often called that in school...I think it is a lovely expression :-D

I had to laugh this afternoon when Hannah and I came home.In the layby outside was a car with caravan. The people had set up a table and were having lunch. What a weird place to stop :-S :-S

Doesn't seem to be any rain forecast now here tonight.

Annx Report 22 Aug 2015 18:26

It sounds like Chris did well with his onions this year. He must have kept them well watered. Many years ago my first FIL showed me how to make a long string of them by twisting the tops and then hanging them up, but it never seemed to work for me.

OH just mentioned about the dreadful crash and we said it's a wonder more weren't killed. There do seem to be more plane crashes lately.

It sounds like Thomas sneaked onto your bed while you were looking for him Jane!! lol.

Where's Frank.......sitting under the tree in his shorts with his book I expect.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 22 Aug 2015 19:00

Gosh its hot here too. I have been up the border digging out more twitch and dead heading. Trouble is I do a bit here and then a bit there so nothing gets finished off. There is only so much tme my back will take bending over to pull up the twitch ad I have to lean on the little two pronged fork to get it into the ground.

I must tell you once again that fork is s god send. I broke off one of the outside tines so oh took the one the other side off too. It is so much easier to dig with now it has just the two tines and get long rooted weeds out a treat. Good for docks and dandylions and twitch.

The crash was awful ws'nt it?

It has now come over all dark and cloudy again. Oh called me in as he had made me a COT.

Sounds like you had a good time today with Hannah. It's nice to spend some time together. What colour were the shorts she bought? Yes we want to see a pic of these lovely onions please? I lent how to string onions from watching Jack Hargreaves on the telly and have done it like that ever since. Shallots look nice strung like that too. When we did the barrow out the front I used to sell small strings of those for a £1.

Fillet steaks for us tonight so not too much cookng but I suppose oh will want chips with his.

MillymollyAmanda Report 22 Aug 2015 19:36

I make sure Toby keeps in and we have the fan on for him when it's this hot it's just to much for him, the last time we had heat like this the poor old boy was nearly done in ,at the moment he's in his bed yawning his head off :-D that's all he does now sleep.

Well it carn't be mice you heard scratching with Thomas in the house ,unless he brought one in and it got away :-0
I'd have loved to have seen your face when you found him fast asleep on your bed :-D

I bought a nice tub of ice cream from Iceland a few weeks ago it had four flavours in the tub ,Lemon, Mango Cherry and i forget the other one but it was lovely .
We had those flying ants again the other day they were all over the cover of the pool
We're hoping tomorrow will still be nice so we can go in the pool ,it takes a few days of warm weather to take the chill off the water .

I think casualty will be a teary one tonight ,from the bits shown i wonder if Charlie dies :-( then the second parts on tomorrow night.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 22 Aug 2015 21:12

I don't watch Casualty.

It has just rained really hard here. I was watching two hogs eating and another one came along the two eating split and went different ways nd the other one started eating. then the rain came down hard and the fish in the pond flipped as though hail staones where coming down and the hog ran for the shelter of a slab we have leaning up against my pond waited a bit and then shot under the decking.

I think I swore Mandy LOL when I realised Thomas was on the bed.I have a Black and white throw at the bottom of the bed...and we all know that Thomas is the same colours. So he blends in :-D :-D.There was a lot of swearing going on lol what with Hannah and James and Chris all disturbed !!!.I had to just sneak back to bed saying "SORRY" :-D

I think I will be like Toby tonight just having the fan on me.The quilt is going on the floor for sure and I will just have a top sheet.

Mel you seem to have had lots more flying ants down there than we have .I must have missed them all other than a few stray ones.
Cat in now .Door shut and i am off to bed.I have missed Casualty but will watch it tomorrow morning on the laptop with my cuppa.
Night Night everyone ......yes where is Frank????

Morning All.

I will read though the posts later
Well yesterday we went down to my daughters for the day. Left here at nine took us nearly 3 and a half hours to get there. The journey back was better. 1 hour 50. Which is usually about right. It was so hot in the car Even with the windows open we didn't get a breeze some of the time because we were going slow
When we got there the stud work was going up and of course the roofer hadn't turned up. Said he would be there later. His excuse for the afternoon was caught in traffic. He could have started it and gone into the evening. So now there is rain there starting this morning and all though the week...
Clare had already had a go with the builder the day before saying we have had all this good weather he should of been here ..

He knows the date we are moving down and says it won't be finished then

Morning all and evening Kim,

Raininng here and we had one clap of thunder last night that I heard before going to bed but heavy rain making big plopping noises in the pond.

Pat That builder always has some kind of excuse. I think you should make him wait a long time for his money..................see how he likes it.

Frank where are you ? You are asking for a smacked rear end if you don't post something today. Aunty Mel is cross.........................xx

Mel, perhaps Frank is lying low for whatever reason, no doubt he'll reappear when he feels like it!
Very wet here this morning, so we're just off for a good walk with our baby, then I'm afraid it's a day indoors, and more family research on ancestry.
