I remember a young teenage girl I worked with once, an only child, and it cropped up in conversation that she was looking for somewhere to live. Her parents had moved into a modified flat as one of them was disabled and there was no bedroom for her. :-S I felt so sorry for her. She got herself a flat near the office where we worked so had no travel to work costs, not that she could have afforded it or to run a car anyway. She didn't get on very well with her parents (not surprising!) but did spend a lot of time at her grandmother's and who knitted her lots of lovely modern things.

I was ust feeding the hogs and putting the netting back over the bowls when I hog was waiting to go in just 2 feet from where I was standing. I stood and watched it for quite a wile but had to go and shut the big girls in. He was still there when I came back and then moed to the next bowl. Before that I went out for a ciggy and a tiny shrew was rushing about on the patio looking for mealworms the Robin had missed or if they had gone down between the paving slabs. It was so funny to watch as they don't stay still for more than a couple of seconds and it was running between the slabs which shows just how small it was.

Morning All,

Well I'm an earlybird this morning! OH was up early and on his way to the hospital before 6.00am. They phoned late last night to let him know his mum had deteriorated a bit and they'd put her on oxygen. He's just phoned me to say she seems quite bright again! She keeps getting quite agitated like yesterday but isn't in any pain. He was there most of yesterday and is beginning to look very weary and tired now. It's 10 weeks since she was diagnosed. We need to check the house again and collect the post this week. Also find their marriage and birth certs which OH says we will need.

Well, no rain here yet so my washing I left out must be dry now. I won't be doing any more yet with all the rain that's forecast. I've just cleared out the last food space in the kitchen, mostly packet sauces and tubes of things....... some expired 2010!! I've also frozen a load of tomatoes so it's shower next then some errands and shopping to do.

How lovely to sit and watch the wildlife you have Mel. I can just picture the little Shrew darting about and the hogs seem to be quite tame now. I did see a nice little Robin in the garden earlier. It reminded me of the Christmas cards I saw in a garden centre the other day!!!!

I just went to slurp the last of my cuppa and felt the teabag between my lips!! :-S How horrid it is when that happens!! Yuk!! BBL.

Morning al, Evening Kim,

Just a quickie this morning. Carolyn was saying the other day that she has all the brass's to do, and it's a job she hates. Like a fool I said I will come and do them. It is arranged for this morning, so someone will have bright shiny brass later today !!!

I recon that builder is doing what he wants, and when he wants. He needs a good kick up the bum.

I was married with two children at James age, how times have changed.

That must have been horrible Ann, and the tea must have tasted very strong at that stage :-D :-D :-D Poor old Gordon, he must be worn out with all this toing and throwing. Nice that MIL brightened up for him during his visit. All this brings back so many memories for me. I had to catch bus's and trains to get to see my dad, or walk from the office, down the Mile end Road to the hospital. I wonder how many pairs of shoes I got through.

Liz do you bath Cassie after those walks or let her dry off then brush her. ??

Well I'm off, see you later.

Morning Ann and All and evening Km,

I nearly came on here again last night or should I say this morning. I just could'nt get to sleep and i went off a little earlier last night too. I lay there quite nive and comfey and thought of black. Nothing and oh got up to visit the bathroom o I pumped my pillows up and tried again when he came back. Listened to him breathing for about twenty mins and got cross with myself so got up for the bathroom 4. 20am. Went back to bed after trying to look out the window which was rediculas (sp) as it was pitch black cloudy with no stars or moon and got back in bed. Don't know how long I lay there till I finally went to sleep. It always seems like forever. I can't read the clock on the telly box without my glasses.

Today is grey and cloudy and wet and oh's pool arrived a little while ago and I am having my cuppa.

Give my love to G Ann. I know this is a very tough time for him and you but make some you time for yourselves to be together. He must have run out of things to say to her by now. Poor lady I do hope she passes quietly in her sleep.

Mel, I see you have caught my problem, not sleeping. BUT last night I went in at 11.00 pm had the radio on for a little while. I had to turn it off, They had P.J. Proby talking about his pass in that horrible American Drawl.I settled down and slept till 8.00 and didn't get up till 9.00.

Now calming myself down with a cup of Coffee.

Have "A NICE DAY"

Morning/Evening All

Well you have had a bit of excercise Frank :-D..That was off though if it was arranged that you were going to go and help with the brass :-S.I t ake it is n't too far from you.

Mel ,you will be feeling weary later on after that bad night.I was awake from about 4.20 until 5.30.After letting the cat out I read my kindle until I started to nod off again.

Ann,I expect OH will find that MIL's brighter moments will become much shorter and she will just sleep for most of the time.He will be exhausted with the daily visiting and the travelling plus doing his other normal day to day things. He probably thinks there are not enough hours in the day .

Pat I doubt much will get done this week on the build what with horrible weather forcast. :-(
I notice that it has just started to rain here now..Our County has a Yellow warning for later I think.I just hope Chris gets back from MIlton Keynes before any really bad weather.

Oh speak of the devil here he is.Typical isn't it .I have just mopped the floors (with that new mop) :-D..I like it.It is a Vile** 1-2 Spray.

Just going to get the kettle on

Annx Report 24 Aug 2015 15:05

Oh dear Frank, how disappointing, especially when you are doing someone a good turn as well. I bet she'll be mortified when she realises she could have had sparkling brasses by now :-S

We only said the other day how lucky it is we aren't both still at work and I can imagine how difficult it was for you. Goodness knows how we would cope if FIL hadn't had to go in a home because of his dementia.

She seems to have changed and be sleeping less at the moment Jane. Maybe it is the oxygen or drugs she's having or just the way things go. OH said she is too weak to even speak now. He's staying put there for a while and they are very good on the ward, even offered him some lunch! Trouble is he doesn't fancy eating much. I had to wait a while before I went out this morning...........more dashes to the loo! It must be the situation that's affecting me. We are just wishing it was over now.

I must have a google of those mops Jane. I need to get something for my hard floors.

The boiler man got in touch earlier, he's got on well with his current job so he'll be here at 8.00am on Wednesday. :-)

Better get on with some more dusting and tidying and change the bed. No.....change of plan!! I've just found those slides that I thought I'd thrown away by mistake in a drawer. I'd put them handy ready to load on the computer then forgot where handy was!! I wonder what gems I might find in these!! lol.

We were both at work full time during our 8 months of caring for my S father Ann, and it was quite a performance. Luckily we lived quite close so all four of us managed to work our daily lives round his needs. We had the added stress of my mother's sudden death to cope with as well, and his acute distress which was just awful.
It's been a horrible day here and chilly. At least we don't have to water!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Aug 2015 16:03

It's up and we are putting some water in it to stop it blowing away.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Aug 2015 16:14

It sounds to me as though MIL is shutting down slowly now Ann. With all the things you have to do for the two of them you did'nt need boiler trouble too. Lets hope it all goes to plan on Wednesday for you to have the new boiler installed.

How often does G have to go and visit his dad?

Frank

Frank Report 24 Aug 2015 17:12

Well I got a phone call with apologies from Carolyn. But I didn't make new arrangements when I would go again. :-( :-( :-( Ros spoke to her also, and said I was not a "HAPPY BUNNY"

Jane I would expect it would be half a mile plus. They live opposite the pub. But I rarely walk both ways when I go to the pub, so I was a bit out of breath when I got home.

We have had rain for most of the day, so the front lawn hasn't been cut.

I have been watching "EDEN"" World's oddest animal couples". A cat found three little baby ducklings and took them in together with three baby kittens of her own. The ducklings soon out grew the kittens, but the ducks still followed the CAT. There were so many different things that Ros and I sat there total engrossed. You should try to catch it some time. Well worth a viewing.

I will ring Tony to take me to the pub tonight, I don't fancy that walk especially if it's going to rain.

Ros has been complaining about her Dyso# So I rang that service people I mentioned, They don't service the re-chargeable types, so I rang dyso#. They tell me that as there is hardly any parts in the re-chargeable ones, they don't service either. But would be able to talk us through any problems we are having. So that's, that.

How are things today Ann ? I am not being nosey, but very interested in your situation. I so much feel for you both, as it brings back so many memories of my poor old DAD and what he Mum and I went through.

It's stopped raining, but looks very dark out there, we have the lounge lights on, and I had the heating on for half an hour to take the chill off. AUGUST and need the heat on :-( :-( :-(

I haven't seen Gill again today, was she on yesterday ???

Annx Report 24 Aug 2015 17:54

Liz, I can well imagine the stress for you, it's just so relentless. We were in a similar position when my dad died and then my first MIL died with cancer 6 months after. Both of us worked full time as well and neither of our sisters got involved so it was down to just us:-S

Mel, it's varied depending on how settled he's been, as sometimes visits can make things worse. His dementia is such now that he doesn't know when we last visited anyway and I'm sure the time will come when he won't even know who we are. We just need to regularly check that he is happy there and being well cared for which he is.

Well, no surprise I didn't do much cleaning so it will have to be done tomorrow! I copied all the slides though and found the one of me wearing a denim waistcoat and skirt I made. lol. I was going to a 21st birthday party on a Saturday night and had nothing to wear as usual. I bought the material on the Saturday morning and wore it that night.

Thank you Frank.....things are still the same. Did Caroline just forget then? Yes, I shouldn't bother with a second walk tonight. That's not very good of the D*son people. What do they do if you don't speak english?

I'd better look busy now. :-) OH will be back in half an hour!

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Aug 2015 19:24

Seems the Dys*n people just don't want to know once they have sold you their machines. Thats two of us now with their machines that we can't use!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-| :-|

I washed both the filters in mine yesterday as I did'nt know there was one in the ball and I have never washed that one before in the three years Iv'e had it so I am going to give it a go tomorrow as thats the only thing the engineer never tried.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Aug 2015 19:26

Ann it is just as well to ring FIL's home then and not have to go on a regular basis. At least it gives you both a bit more space and best not to go too much if it unsettles him. He sounds as though he is quite happy with his friends in there and being looked after.

Jane

Jane Report 24 Aug 2015 19:28

Ann I think you might like this mop.It is so easy to use and has a nice wide mop bit which covers a lot of floor in one wipe. The mop head swivels too which is so good.
I got mine in Asd* for £10 instead of £16.

Oh dear your poor tum.Yes it does sound like it might just be all stress related rather than a bug.Make sure you have a good supply of loo rolls :-D :-D
I hope that MIL will soon just sleep away.It doesn't sound as though it will be too long now.For everyones sakes I hope it will be soon.

Well we have had rain nearly all afternoon, but it hasn't been that heavy.Just steady.
James said it came down in sheets at his work near Oakham.
Thomas has been in ALL day.Well nearly all day.He must have nipped out at one point as I turned around in the lounge to find him chomping on a bird :-| :-|..I have just put him out but see he has gone straight into the Summerhouse.
I haven't been out at all today which is most unlike me lol.But on the positive side it meant I got a fair bit done at home :-D.

I had a bread roll at lunch time..Not a good idea. Most bread these days upsets my tum :-S...Chris says he has no sympathy as I should know by now what it does.It makes me burp a lot too :-S :-S I think I frightened the cat at one point :-|

Hannah has sent me an email wth links to where she is staying in Italy .It looks flipping amazing. If anyone wants to see just say and I will send.

Jane

Jane Report 24 Aug 2015 19:51

Mel ,I don't think we have cleaned the filters on our big dyson yet.I must remind Chris :-D :-D.I think we sometimes get an email to remind us from Dyson.

I think you are doing the right thing Ann by not visiting FIL too often at the moment. He seems happy enough and well cared for and as you say time means nothing to him so he has no idea when you last visited.Plus the fact you have enough on your plates right now with the worry about MIL.

Dinner is ready here so better go and dish up.Thomas is back in LOL.Probably a quick sprint from the Summerhouse :-D

Annx

Annx Report 24 Aug 2015 20:20

I remember being surprised at the filter in the ball Mel. I've only washed my filters a couple of times, but it did make a big difference with my small D*son as that was hardly sucking and I was about to give up on it. I think I read that they should be washed every month, but I don't hoover as much as some, so mine are left longer! Sometimes a brush and pan will do to get the bits up on the hard floors.

You can't really go wrong can you with a mop at that price Jane. I'll see if I can have a look at one....we have an A*da on the nearby retail park and I want to look in M*S down there too. :-) I see Thomas managed to miss the rain long enough to catch his dinner!! :-S Yes, can I see where Hannah is staying please. Do you think it will be very hot?

We had quite heavy rain this afternoon but it's stopped again now. I think OH is ready for bed after his early start this morning so I'll join him. I expect he will be up early tomorrow as well, which is good as I can crack on then. :-)
