Hi folks,
Just to prove we haven't yet been claimed by the grim reaper - here I am with a few words. I've just sent out an email with photos attached on this nice sunny day for a change.
Hope you have all been OK, Carmel had a spell where she was in bed most of the time but for the past week she's felt a tad better and we've been out and about quite a bit, except of course when it's been raining. Yesterday we took the bus into Coventry for a change but didn't buy very much. We had a cuppa and some chips in the market cafe, probably the best chips for miles. Carmel has been looking for an anniversary card for me for our 36th anniversary on Tuesday coming. She can't find what she wants because most of them are those silly 'cutie' cards, and she likes cards to have a meaning. I've told her not to worry, just give me last years card, I won't remember it and it will still be full of her love. I dropped lucky and found a lovely card for her weeks ago. I have had problems in the past finding suitable cards for 'wife' for any occasion and whats more, we have few card shops in our area or even in Nuneaton these days. Actually we were in Nuneaton earlier in the week, still couldn't find anything and no ends of shops have closed down.
We went out for a bit of a walk today to stretch our legs and were amazed by how many skips were in people's gardens - including two in our little Close. I guess people are investing in their homes rather than thinking of moving.
Carmel has to go back to the dentist next week and is still having trouble with her Lichen Planus. She phoned the hospital to see if she could see the maxilo facial specialist earlier but was told by his secretary that her next appointment (Sept 21) is the earliest she could have anyway, due 'annual leave'. It keeps her awake at night a lot and only he can prescribe a special treatment. I've got to phone up to see if the results of my knee XRays are in but I have to say it is now much easier and far less painful. I keep telling people, there aint no fun in getting old.
We are having chicken dinner tonight with a nice Black Forest gateau for 'pud', so that's something to look forward to. We got the gateau in A*di yesterday after a confrontation at the checkout. They were marked on the freezer unit at 99p, so when it came up on our receipt as £1.89 Carmel queried it. I'd gone back down to the freezer to check it was as we saw it and even asked a girl on the staff to confirm, which she did. While we were querying it, some other customers had been overcharged too, and it got a bit frantic as the lass on the checkout was Polish. She had to ring for the manager and he sorted it out in our favour but the price on the freezer hadn't been changed and the till was ringing up the full price. All's well that ends well. I do get annoyed in some shops over a/ unwanted music, where you can't hear yourself think b/ when products I enjoy suddenly seem to be taken out of circulation c/ shop assistants who talk among themselves instead of giving you their full attention d/ unpriced items on shelves e/ items on bottom shelves with tiny little price tags on. I could rant on but I guess you all have few favourites of your very own.
It must be getting on towards winter as the TV programmes suddenly seem to be bucking up. We like a good drama series and a few are in the pipeline thank goodness. Not interested in the X Factor and won't be watching The Voice now they have axed Tom Jones. The Choir Gospel competition has been on today and I've got that recorded and I'm even enjoying the bake off.
Well, folks, I think that's about my lot for the time being, sorry it's not very exciting.

Frank, why don't you use your kindle?! I use mine all the time and its no trouble at all! OH watching the highlights of the Grand Prix. :-( so I'm outside catching the last of the evening sun. Lunch was delicious, and we had stewed plums (off our own tree!!) and custard for pudding. They were lovely too, it's the first time we've had plums from our own garden for years. I'd forgotten how good they are!

Evening all,
Been an odd sort of day we've had a little bit of sun and then it clouds over as if rain is on it's way . I've had a bad pain in my side again,it really aches i think it's a water infection again although it doesn't hurt when i go to the loo but it's like i've been kicked in the side it's so painful, i'am drinking lots of water so i hope it will help, it's agony to get up and down in my chair !!
Well done Ann i thought you must surely win as your photo's and paintings are really good .
I think i will go to bed soon ,might help a bit if i lay down ,just got to haul myself up the stairs . See you all tomorrow .

Sorry to hear you're not feeling very well Mandy, hope you feel better soon <3 <3
The photo came through ok this end Jane. The girls dresses look nice and cool. How did the wedding go? Nice to hear Thomas gave you a bit of a lay in today LOL
Your photo's are lovely William. I got some Golden Rod off my mum last year which I put in pots, they are quite small in comparison to yours and have already finished flowering. It's nice to see lots of colour in the garden isn't it? Glad to hear your knee is feeling a bit better now. Pity Carmel couldn't get an earlier appointment, hope things go ok for her on the 21st and at the dentist next week.
Oh dear Frank, maybe you should give up with your new laptop and go back to your old PC for now. It must be so frustrating for you not being able to post properly?
Your big breakfast sounds lovely Mel. We had roast lamb today, as a change from chicken. I fancied it after everyone saying they were enjoying their lamb during the week :-D :-D
It's all go with your family Liz, 2 houses to renovate, that's going to keep them busy for a while. Both properties sound lovely, hopefully they'll sell quite quickly
I've just finished watching the F1 and have left the recording on the planner for OH to watch when he gets in later. I needed a break from trying to scrape the glue off the ceiling. It's really hard and there is lots of it, so I'm seriously thinking of having it plastered if it takes to long. I'm just about to go back and have another go.
I'm sure OH will be able to do it faster than me, so I'll give it another few days to see how we get on before deciding weather to have it plastered or not. It would be a lot cheaper if we can get it off though <3 Luckily OH is now off work for 2 weeks, so hopefully we can get the room decorated before he goes back to work. The bathroom and kitchen need painting but that'll only take OH one day to do both of them. It's just the room we're on now which is giving us all the problems :-( :-( At least once that room and the two small rooms are done that'll be the whole place finished in time for the winter. We don't like painting in the winter, it's to cold and the paint takes ages to dry.
Well, I'd better get back to it. OH will be home in about an hour or so and I haven't managed to do much. Hope he isn't to disappointed. I think I'll put some music on while I work :-D BBL

We have just had two sweetcorns each for our supper from the garden, and they were scrummy! They've done really well this year, and are so much nicer than the shop bought ones which tend to be tough and fibrous. We've got a few more coming on which should be good. Raspberries (garden again!) meringue and cream for another pudding. Still got the doors open as it's turned into a lovely evening. A good day here!!

I'm getting close to crying in a corner in frustration now LOL. I've just put the F1 on for OH and I'm getting back to it. I've had a vodka because I'm terrified on ladders. With it being so tough I'm frightened of falling off, so I've had a bit of Dutch courage and I've got my music on, so I'll keep going until the F1 finishes then I'll stop and have a nice hot bath and bed.
It'll be nice to hear about he wedding, didn't they all look pretty in their dresses?
Well, I'd better get back to it.
Oh nearly forgot, have you tried barley water Mandy if you think it's a kidney infection? My mum swears by it. Although if it is an infection you really should see a doctor.
Right I am going now LOL

Morning all, looks promising today. Fingers crossed.
Gill, our Golden Rod was here when we moved here in 1987 and comes up every year, I cut it right back when it's finished. The pyracanthas we put in the following year as little sprigs and I just keep them pruned now, they can get a bit out of hand. I haven't done much to the actual garden this year, not up to it now, mainly concentrate on the planters baskets etc. But somehow it all seems to survive, and things have a way of looking after them selves, either that or getting totally out of control.
Oh dear Jane - so the CAT is in the DOG house ;-) :-D. I remember when we had our Holly, our tortoise shell, she would just sneak in and leave a mouse or a shrew as if she'd brought us a present. Alright if you can just dispose of it right away, but when we left her in the control of a neighbour while we had a few days away, a ominous smell, turned out to be a decaying mouse under the sideboard!!! Please try and forgive your cat, remember, you were a kitten you self once :-D :-D :-D
Will try and pop in later, just off to put the washing out on the line. TTFN PS - Gill, I don't think LADDERS and VODKA are really a safe combination !!! Put the ladders away and enjoy the vodka ;-)

Morn ing all and evening Kim,
Nice morning here and we have just had breakfast, ginger preserve on toast for him and I had My Mate as Frank would say.
I went to look at William's pics and when I clicked on the email I got the home page of BT again. Then a sorry notice saying they were having trouble so I shall go and have another go in a min.
Jane the girls dresses were a lovely shade of pink, very suttle. They did'nt look like they would crease a lot. Loved the posies.
Oh has just put the bin out and is thinking about starting the block work again. He has been lucky with the weather so far so keeping my fingers crossed he will have it nearly finished today but this is the longest stretch and we have to clean off some of the blocks left over from my pond. They are muddy where we used them in the orchard to stand the wood on for my shed last year.
Going to try the emails again so BBL.

Nice pics William. Your pyracanthus look good with all their berries on and the birds will love those this year. I also have those in the garden and the berberis that looks like miniature holly leaves. that is nice and early flowering here against the west wall.
Planters are looking nice too and I like the cds but would'nt put them in my garden as they may frighten the deer.
Gill you be careful with that glue chipping. We had those tiles on mums bedroom ceiling and oh took them off as he said they are a frie hazard, being a fireman he is funny about things like that but I still have then in the little loo!! which he dos'nt use..... The thing is they covered a multitude of sins which you are now finding in taking them off. What he did was to buy a textured paint which covered most of the glue left on the ceiling and it looks ok now.

What a beautiful day it was yesterday !! Ros got all the conservatory painted and weeded the patio. I Went out to help her move the planters. and tripped against something and fell against the fence, grazing my arm. Dinner was about as good as it could get. The crackling was perfect. and the pork so moist. The rest of it was good as well. I couldn't eat all mine, I had been picking at the pork and Yorkshire while I dished up.

Jane you are wicked leaving the joint out like that. No wonder Thomas was sniffing around. It bought back memories of my old "friend" We had taken a Turkey from the freezer to defrost on the worktop covered in a tea towel. He must have thought "that smells good" When we came down the next morning it was on the kitchen floor with teeth marks around one leg :-( :-( :-( :-( Another time, Harvey boight a girlfriend home for Sunday lunch and Penny our black poodle pinched a piece of meat from her plate. ;-) ;-) ;-) How do you top that :-P :-P :-P Little Bugg##s.
No photo's of Wills garden, perhaps someone could send them on.
Good Girl Ann, I don't know if I mentioned it before with all the posts I have lost, CONGRATULATIONS. My cursor just jumped right up the page I am typing on. I wonder if I have a FRIDAY COMPUTER (LAPTOP)

Auntie Mel, I have another "HOG" Val next door knocked to see if we had any cat food over from out visitor" on Saturday,. Saying she had found the HOG on the drive mid afternoon. Very unusual I thought So I offered to put him in my Hogs box. I put water and food down for him, and he has been feeding and coming out of his box, dragging straw out behind him. Is there anything I should do ???
Right I'm not going to push my luck, so will try to do the back lawn now !!!! See you all later <3 <3

Morning All,
I hope the ache is better this morning Mandy. Do you think it might be kidney stones, mind you my friend said they gave her awful stabbing pains. Drinking plenty sounds a good idea anyway.
We had WW2 planes whizzing overhead at the weekend. They were there for the Victory Show with WW2 re-enactments in the next but one village. We used to get our christmas turkeys from the farm where it's held till they stopped doing them a few years ago. Well as I drove by I couldn't believe how it's grown! There's a huge field opposite the farm that belongs to their parents farm and it was crammed full of tents, caravans and motor homes! I think the Vulcan was due a fly by over the weekend before it is retired but was cancelled because of a technical hitch. They are still hoping to do a fly by here before it is retired so I hope to see that.
Mel why didn't you enter more of the shows after that success? There were cups and certificates at this one and I was close to getting a cup in the photo section as they add up points for title to the cups which I hadn't realised. I just didn't expect to do well so had only entered a few.
Yesterday we went to see another big open garden, this time at Woodhouse Eaves (I bet William knows it........it is a posh area!) It was a part wild, part formal garden with several lawned areas descending down a slope. There was a meadow area, walled garden and small knot garden and some plants I've never seen before. All the walls, some outbuildings and all the pathways were made of the local blue slate. A whiskered friend like Thomas soon found OH and was very friendly and loving fuss!
Today OH is at his mum's house waiting for them to collect the bed and other equipment. He's moved it all into one room. There will just be arranging the stairlift to be taken out then, but it might be best to use it to get boxes of stuff downstairs first and save our backs!! Once those things are gone it will make space for us to sort out all the rest. Then he's visits to their bank etc while he is in the area. I've been out and fetched a couple more cardboard boxes and popped to the farm shop. I need to have a clean up too as the vicar is calling tomorrow.
What a shame Frank! You must get Lewis to show you how to cut and paste.
Nice young fresh sweetcorn is delicious Liz and you can pick it when it's just right when you grow it. There are loads of fields of it round here and it's biggest pest here seems to be the squirrels who just help themselves!!
Gill much as I like Vodka I don't think it goes with ladders!! It sounds a right game getting that glue off. Still you will only have to do it the once!! :-)
Jane I think Thomas's kills will become less soon as there will be less for him to hunt. Just think what you will save in birdseed! :-( Is it next weekend you go away?
William you garden looks nice and those fuschias are a picture. We always had golden rod in the garden when I was a child. I seem to remember stripping the leaves off the stalks once they had finished flowering and using them as arrows!
Time for a cuppa now methinks then I might get my pruners out and start on some of the shrubs!
