Gill, I think what you are planning is an excellent idea. Moving to a completely new area will do you the world of good. We did that, moving from Oxford down to the Devon/Somerset border after my parents died. OH was born in the west country and spent a lot of his childhood there, and we had been there quite a lot when our two were children for holidays, so we did know the area quite well. I worked with Care in the Community for 16 years!!! and I can assure you that your OH won't have any trouble at all finding work even if he doesn't manage a transfer, particularly if he has his NVQ. My MIL was in a home in Devon and they were always looking for good staff. When I first started in care I worked for a while in home that had individual flats, as well as bedsits, and they were always short of staff, so I don't think you would have any worries on that score. You might even be able to find a niche for yourself and Sandra, you just never know what's round the corner! If it were me, I'd be gone like a shot!!

Afternoon All,

And toodle pip to Jane off on her hols!! <3 <3 I hope you have a lovely time and relax with a glass or two or three! I'm sure Thomas will manage without his mice while you are away. :-)

So you are hoping to move to Devon after all now Gill. I expect it's an easier decision now after Michelle's visit. We've talk ed of moving that way or to Cornwall the last few years but it was so far to come back before when the in laws had problems and we do find it handy being in the midlands so have been a bit torn really. Like Frank says your OH should be able to find work and it's a good idea to do other things to generate income like you say. Good luck with it and at least your place is nearly all freshly decorated now so that will help.. :-D

Have you seen any hoglets this year Mel? I was hoping you would with the little gang you have now. Your OH has quite a bit more to do with the shed etc then. Still it will be good to have everything done as he wants and the shed will be good for the filters to be in when they need attention.

Apart from a bit of shopping and OH doing the ironing we've done very little today!! My feet have been nicely soaked in some lavender stuff and rasped though!!

Afternoon all,

It's been another nice day here we have got some jobs done in the garden ,family came this morning for coffee and cake ,i made a lemon cake ,that was soon gone they soon emptied the cake tin .

Oh i thought it was tomorrow Jane and Chris were off ,so i have missed saying have a good holiday ,never mind i'am sure they will have a good time .

So Michelle's visit wasn't what you thought it would be then Gill such a shame as you were all looking forward to her visiting , i suppose she likes to go her own way and do her own thing now , at least she keeps in touch on line and comes home when she can so you haven't lost her completely <3
You have some thing to look forward too then planning a move down to Devon , it would be good if OH can get a transfer down there with his job but it does sound as if he will have no trouble getting a job with all the care homes that way .

Now Frank what you been up to with your glasses ,that's odd you didn't try the other pair on when you got them ,i thought they fitted them to make sure they were ok , i got mine from Spec savers and they have been good ,any problems and they soon sort things out for you .

Mel, sounds like there is still lots of work to be done before the fish can move back into their new pond,it's been quite a big job hasn't it .

Sounds as if you are getting things sorted for Wednesday Ann, it's always a job to know what to wear for funerals, looks like you might need a brolly ,this week should be quite showery i think.
Have your Jewelry classes started again ? or are you having a break from them ?

We're having home made Cheese Quiche tonight with salad and lovely mashed potatoes .

The restaurant will be open soon so early dinner and very early night as we have a wake up call at 3.30!!
Ridiculous but Chris insists he wants a shower to wake him up.I will have a bath tonight and then a quick lick and promise after his shower.there is no bus at that time of the morning to airport so we have booked a taxi for 5am
Great wifi here??

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Sep 2015 18:45

O have I just caught you to say have a lovely holiday Jane and Chris. Nice lot of relaxing and wine!!hic hic.. ;-) ;-)

I have been busy again today. First I stripped the bed and then washed my hair then did some ironing and remade the bed. Did lunch and washed up and then a friend called in to see oh. I put the washing machine on a wash for 1hr 59 mins and he was still here when I put the wshing out. Then I hoovered the bedroom of all the spiders and cobwebs and even under the bed with old Henry. Graham was still here so I fed the chickens their corn and picked his wife a bunch of sweet peas and off he went.

Oh was getting on so well till he arrived. I had been out and held another long peice of wood so he could grip it on the edge before he screwed it on. After he had gone it came over all dark and dreary and when oh came in at 6pm it was looking like rain. WWe have had a little so in came the washing and it went in the dryer.

Just caught up with your posts. Glad to see Mandy has posted as I was getting worried.

Fiona's birthday tomorrow!!! The big 60............. :-S you don't feel any different Fiona and I am six years past that now.

Gillx Report 13 Sep 2015 18:54

Gosh 3.30am that's early Jane. I suppose you can always have a nap on the plane. Stroke of luck Hurricane Henri won't be here till Tuesday so you can rest easy now, knowing your flight will be ok. Hope the weather is nice in Italy for you. Have a great time,
WE WILL ALL MISS YOU <3

It's like that here Mandy when I bake, the cakes never seem to last long LOL at least we know we are doing something right. Glad to hear you had a nice time.
Yes we're hoping OH can get a transfer, he is going to look into it to get an idea of where about he might get a transfer to, then we'll have a better idea of where about we can move to. At the moment I'm just having a general look at different places online, with no particular areas in mind.

Thanks everyone for all your support, poor Sandra is still upset about Michelle not wanting to spend time with her :-( OH and I have been trying to cheer her up, not sure if it's worked though. Hopefully she'll be ok in a day or two.

OH will complete his NVQ next month then it takes a couple of months for the certificate to be given to him. He got 93% in his maths exam the other week and has his English exam on the 30th of this month. I think everything else has been done but not marked yet, so fingers crossed he'll pass everything and have his NVQ by Christmas, which will help when we move.

The only thing we have to do now is finish decorating the last room (the one we're trying to get the glue off the ceiling) then we can put it back on the market. We're hoping to see a mortgage advisor sometime next week so we'll have some idea of how much we can borrow. I've taken a look at some properties down south online but haven't found anything we really like yet, but I suppose until we know how much money we can borrow we won't know what price range to look in and might find something suitable when we know how much we have to spend.

We've both been to Devon and Cornwall but Sandra has never been, so we've been telling her all about it and now she's getting excited. I just hope we can sell this place quickly. At least this time round we are going with a much better estate agent.

Well, I'd better get back to taking this glue off the ceiling. OH has done a great job, he's so quick, but now he needs a rest so it's my turn again.

See you all later <3

Gillx Report 13 Sep 2015 18:58

You've been busy today Mel, you'll sleep tonight. I told OH you've got rain so he's decided to go out and cut the lawns incase we get it later.

Must get on with this ceiling now

Brilliant Gill! Honestly, I really wouldn't worry about your OH getting getting a transfer. If it works out that way then that's good, but I would find an area you want to be in and the have a look at Care Homes in the area. Perhaps even writing to one or two to find out the work prospects. Bearing mind your OH's experience and qualifications I can't see that he'd have any problem at all. There are a lot of grannies in the west country!!!!

Annx

Annx Report 13 Sep 2015 20:17

Oh your OH is doing well getting qualifications Gill. I just googled 'care home jobs in Devon' and it came up with dozens!!

So there were no cake 'seconds' left for you to have later Mandy. :-D I like a nice lemon cake too. The beading class starts back a week on Friday. It seems a later start this year. We are making bigger beads from smaller beads the first week so I quite fancy trying that.

Gillx Report 13 Sep 2015 20:52

I was worried about OH finding a job but after everyone saying there are lots I'm not so worried now. Thanks Ann for Googling jobs in Devon.

I don't know Devon at all apart from holiday places, so I've been checking out the good and bad areas. There is quite a lot of info, especially on bad areas, so at least I know which ones to avoid LOL.

I have found a lovely picture of a cottage in Devon which I'm using on here. There is no way we could ever afford something like that, but it's nice to dream :-D :-D.

Frank Report 13 Sep 2015 21:35

Well I am cheesed off with sitting looking at programmes I don't like. What is Corrie doing on for an hour on Sunday ??

Have a nice soak tonight Jane as I doubt you will have a bath in Italy I think they are all showers.

It' nice to dream Gill. When I first moved up here from Essex. I rented a thatched cottage in a lovely little village. They had there own MAJOR who would ride by the cottage on a big White HORSE. saying " GOOD MORNING" We had owls in the trees at night calling to each other.. It was so peaceful and ideal to bring my daughter to at 6 moths old. All that lovely fresh air and we had so much countryside to walk around or go out for a drive.

I am almost ready for bed, to have a read, then the radio for a while. I hope to get a good nights sleep as I haven't have a doze this afternoon.

It's Tony's B'Day today, we bought him a nice pair of cuff links, which he was very pleased with. I think he was 74 or 75. I didn't like to ask.

I have booked the table for Saturday at our favourite Chinese Restaurant.. I dare not mention what the occasion is or she will have a FIT. She dreads next Saturday coming. I have ordered 20 red roses for her birthday, together with the painting that Tony has done, together with the new phone which she has had already. I know I am TO GOOD TO HER. !!!! but hey what can I do after 38 wonderful years of marriage.

See you all in the morning. Good night God Bless. <3 <3 <3

Everyone seemed to be busy today.
Rain is on the way here so our grass has had another trim
The sun had been out but it wasn't as warm as yesterday

We have just had a load of fireworks going off they must of been expensive judging by the display. Miocha doesn't like. Fireworks so was going crazy.
Your house seems to be coming on with all the decorating Gill. I hope you have more viewings this time

My Friday night drinks went off ok. Not a lot was drunk so I have some wine for
When I move. Which is Saturday
This week the painting will be done. All of it has been plastered now I suppose by the time we are down there they can start tiling etc. we have the floor chosen but not the tiles. The internet is being put in on the Monday too
I don't think we will be staying in Clare's house long well I hope not
I will pack a suitcase of at least a weeks clothing which we will use. I'm hoping we can get most of the furniture in the annexe and everyone works around it
We have so many boxes. Packed and still more to do

It says it's a thatched cottage in Cockington Mel. It's very pretty and just the type of property I would love to live in, but could never afford. Like I said it's nice to dream and at least I have the picture to look at, if nothing else ;-) <3

It would be nice to be near you Mel, we'll have to wait and see what's on the market when the time arrives.
At least everything has been sorted, so there's nothing to throw away or sort out, it would just be a point of packing it all up. Luckily we have lots of boxes, newspapers and bubble wrap ready. All I need to buy is the brown tape LOL.

The cottage you rented Frank sounds great and the Major riding on a white horse saying good morning to everyone, how wonderful. It would of felt like you were in another world. I'd love to live in the country with all the wildlife around me. I'm going to really miss Rosie when we've gone. I hope the next people look after her like we have. Not everyone likes squirrels, but she is so cute and such a character, you can't help but love her <3

It sounds like you're almost ready for the move then Pat? Your new place seems to have come on so fast since the roof was finally finished, it sounds like it won't be to long before you'll be moving in. Hope everything goes smoothly on Saturday and it doesn't rain.
Yes we are hoping the next Estate Agent is better than the last one and we sell quickly like you did. It would be nice to be in our new place in the New Year....What a brilliant start to 2016 that would be :-D :-D

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY FIONA" <3 <3 <3 Sweet SIXTY. !!

Morning all, Evening Kim,

I have an appointment at S. Savers at 12.20 today. They want proof that I am old enough to get my eye test free, That's because I look so YOUNG ;-) ;-) ;-) Who am I kidding.

Well Jane will be at her Hotel by now. I bet she has forty winks after being up at 3.30 am.

Pat It's so good that everything is moving along for you and that you will be getting the place together over next weekend.

Gill, Cockington is just up the road from Torquay. I have been there several times, it's a very attractive village and visited by a lot of people. I would think property would be expensive, but I don't think I would want to live in a Tourist area .

Damping sort of morning here. We are having to put the side lights on in the lounge.
I suppose we are getting ready for "HENRI" tonight or tomorrow.

Shower now and find my scripts as I have to take them with me for my EYE TEST. Which reminds me I have to re- order our medicines later today, so they can be collect Wed/Thurs.
