magpie Report 24 Sep 2015 12:25

We're not doing anything much today Frank. It's raining hard at the moment so I'm reading and OH in his workshop sorting out a few bits and bobs that he wants to put on eBay. Cas has had a long walk so she's in her crate asleep! Fish fingers for lunch so nice and easy!! No housework at all today except a top do. Might have another look on my tree on ancestry. Only thing is that I've gone back as far as I can on all sides without going into parish records. Problem with that is that they would be Norfolk, Somerset,/Devon, Eire(!!) and Oxfordshire, all a bit far away!!!
I should think you'll be glad to finish those apples Gill!! We froze a lot of raspberries last year, but ended up only using a few and throwing the rest away, so we haven't bothered this year!!
Hope your meds are ok Frank.

http://misbach.org/download/bowtie_chart.pdf

Hope this helps Fiona. I've just found it online and it shows your husband's name under yours and your children listed below.

I should imagine that you would have to do two charts, one for your side of the family and one for your husbands. Your chart having your name above your husbands name and then the other way around for your husbands chart.

I've never done one myself but it looks straight forward on the picture. I hope it helps. Let us know what you think and how you get on. You could always make a copy of the original blank chart to save you money buying another one for your husband's family <3 but I think this website have them to download, not sure if it's free or if you have to pay for it though.
Good Luck <3

http://misbach.org/free-pdf-charts.html

This is the home page, sorry I only sent you the link for the picture of the bowtie chart in my last message Fiona, my mistake. It looks like the charts are free.

Sorry to hear you've had a bad night again Frank, hope you feel better soon and they can find out what the problem is through the blood tests.

Yes I'll be glad when all these apples are finished Liz. Hopefully because there isn't much in my freezer none of them will go to waste. My only concern is if we sell this property and I have to run the freezer down.......there's only so many apple pies I could eat in such a short space of time LOL

Better get back to my apples, almost finished what I can do to fill up the freezer now, then I can make the cake.

Hello all,

Gill, that's a good site with all the different charts. I may have to use one or two. If you should sell your house quickly, then you'll have to make lots of apple pies and set up a table at the market. :-D

Frank. my late MIL used to get weak and shaky when her blood sugar got low. She was a diabetic though so that would be expected occasionally. Hopefully, the docs will soon get you sorted. What if they told you that you had become allergic to roast dinners!!!!!!

I'm off to the pool shortly. The doc wants me to go every day, but 3 times a week is all I can muster. When I get back I'm going to make some no-knead bread, also something to use up my buttermilk as it's nearing expiration.

Son and his wife will stay here indefinitely. When the time comes, I expect they will buy it from the other kids. Hopefully I won't have to move to assisted living when my mind goes completely. They can just lock me in my garage. :-D I figure that the cost of this renovation would soon be eaten up If I had to go into care of any sort. DIL keeps my great grandson every day, so I'll be able to play with him. I went to see him the other day and he was wearing a T-shirt which said "Awsome Big Brother." It took a minute before the penny dropped - his mum is expecting again. He is about the same age as Mandy's little fellow, and will be going o Hawaii next month with all his family, so will have his 1st birthday there. DIL was born there and they go to visit her family every other year. Eight of them will be gong. When this next baby arrives, his mum is going to stay home with them.

I've gabbled long enough Liz, have you ever tried the Online Parish Clerk sites? I love to browse through the villages and read the newspaper excerpts. Many have Parish records.

Frank Report 24 Sep 2015 15:38

Thanks Gill, you have given me the APPLE BUG. I went down the garden this morning to pick the last of the runners and pull up the roots and noticed how many apples were still on the tree. Lewis cleared a load when he was up a couple of weeks ago. Well I climbed on the bales of bark, and reached up into the tree. I have picked a bucket full and so far have done two saucepans full. They are in freezer bags and cooling down, then into the freezer. Will do some more tomorrow. !!!

I managed to get the back lawn cut but not done the edges, tomorrow may be !!

Ros has been let loose in the front garden with the electric hedge trimmer. She has made a good job of it, and is now tidying up the borders. I can hear her chatting away to who ever goes by :-D :-D :-D So she is having a break between working.

I was right JJ IS COMING TONIGHT. Jan rang. They were on the way to the NEC and will call to see us Saturday for a meal, as there is a lot of setting up to do this afternoon. They will be staying at a hotel, as the travelling will be bad on the M 1 morning and evening.

Better go and make the worker a COT and as bit of cake.

Easy tea tonight Pork spare ribs, chips and corn on the cob. I might have baked beans instead.

Frank Report 24 Sep 2015 15:51

Miss you Ruby, We posted at the same time.

I will ring the Drs. next week for my results and will let you know.

I really can't think your son would lock you in the garage no matter how do lally you get :-D :-D :-D Anyway you are still a SPRING CHICKEN. if you can manage swimming Three times a week. I couldn't manage that in a year ;-) ;-) ;-)

It's nice that you are still able to see and play with your Great G'son. How nice for the family to get away to Hawaii every other year. We stopped there when we went on our Round the World Trip. That seems so long ago. which I suppose it was.

Still not made Madam her tea, so I had better get on with it.

Take care my love.

Oh was doing something to the leccy in the shed and got a shock!!!! Very unusual for him as he is always so careful being an ex fireman. He came in and said he felt it had given him a boost!! Silly old fool.

I had nev er heard of that bowtie chart before so its good Gill was on the ball.

It rained a little here and my washing was nearly dry so I brought it in andit stopped. Just my luck but i'm not putting it out again as his shirts are just dry enough to iron and so are the tea towels. It was a boil wash the first I have done in the new machine. They smell lovely now they have been outside.

I bought a pack of LARGE dish cloths in Mo**isons hoping they would be bigger than the ones I bought with the red stitching round the edge. These had blue stiches. When I got one out it looks exactly the same size as the dish cloths. It may have felt a little thicker but I used it anyway to wash the bathroom floor and it did quite a good job.

magpie Report 24 Sep 2015 17:08

Mel, what do you put in your boil wash? if you don't mind me asking. I haven't used a boil wash since my daughter was in Terry towels!! I always wash everything at 40c, but sometimes put a capful of Dettol in with the wash. I have to confess that I've never ironed a tea towel in my life or towels or bedding or underclothes! so as you see, I've always been a reluctant ironer!! ! Mind you these days I only do the odd shirt or T. Shirt, as OH simply doesn't notice or care, and it's one chore I can do without!!
Not a bad day here. Sun was out this afternoon so we did a lot of tidying up outside. This weekend we're out both days, Saturday to Cirencester, Sunday to a Game and Country Fair. We shall feel quite giddy!!!

Gillx Report 24 Sep 2015 17:53

So you're on your apples now Frank :-D It'll be worth it in the winter months if you fancy some apple sauce to go with your roast pork or just a nice apple crumble and custard. I've still got a bit more room in my freezer so I might do another bag of apples tomorrow.
I bet you can't wait to see JJ, you really do love animals don't you?

Does anyone know what time Jane is back? It'll be nice to hear from her again, I don't suppose she'll be back on here till tomorrow though.

It sounds like you've got a lovely weekend planned Liz, hope the weather is nice for you.

Hope your OH is ok Mel, what was he doing to get a shock like that?
It sounds like the dish clothes you got were a better quality than the last ones, even if they weren't any bigger. So long as they do the job, that's the main thing isn't it? I don't iron tea towels either. I put my towels and tea towels in the dryer to keep them soft and they don't get creased that way either.

I didn't make the cake in the end, I made a cheesecake instead. I've also made a sausage bake for our dinner which should be ready in about half an hour. I was so busy with all my washing it was quicker to make the cheesecake. I'll probably make the cake tomorrow as I fancy a piece now.

Glad to hear you liked the website I found Ruby. I've kept it in my favourites for future use as it took me ages to find a bowtie chart. Each time I put bowtie into the search engine it just kept giving me the bowties that men wear, but eventually I found what I was looking for after changing the words a few times. What a man's bowtie has to do with charts and genealogy is anyone's guess LOL

Just having a sit down now with a nice cup of tea while I wait for the dinner to cook

Evening Applepickers and All! :-)

Another sunny day here with just a few spots of rain earlier. OH went to bag up more stuff for the charity shop at his mums, cleared more rubbish and has found his grandad's medals which he'd never ever seen before. He also found even more loads more paperwork to shred going back to the 1980s and 1960s! No the clocks were just everyday ones, very ordinary ones! I went and had my flu jab this morning and have booked a routine blood test for Monday. OH told me to go earlier than usual. At teatime yesterday when he went to his meeting there were police outside the bank where you turn in to the doctors' carpark and incident tape over the walls. Today's paper said 2 robbers had broken glass reinforced doors to carry boxes of cash out. It said a quick thinking lady had snapped one of them on her mobile.

My computer was working fine this morning, but this afternoon the screen wouldn't switch on!!! :-S I checked the fuse and connections but it was no good so I rang the chap who fixed OH's laptop a few months ago. It wouldn't have mattered but I still haven't copied what I want to keep onto my laptop yet!! Silly me!!! :-S Anyway, the chap said he would lend me one if it was just to transfer my stuff which is good. OH will take the monitor and cable to him in the morning while I'm at class.

Oh dear Frank......cheese is 50% fat too which will have made things worse. :-S I hope you are alright again now. So you were right about JJ coming today after all! We shall want to see a pic of him!! :-) I bet young Lewis will be keen to start his driving lessons. You'll have to watch him when he passes his test Frank, I used to love driving my mum a bit fast over a hump backed bridge in the next village to where we lived when I first passed my test!! lol. I seemed to get the devil in me as soon as we approached it and she had one of those high beehive hairdos with lots of pins in it and they would stick in her scalp as her head touched the roof.

Ruby it will be nice having your gt grandson to play with and should be good to see him growing up. So that's the name of your new place then....THE LOCKUP!!

I wondered what the bowtie connection was with genealogy too! I must have a look at that link Gill put up.

Mel......did he come in with his hair standing on end!!!! lol. I couldn't resist that. It isn't funny though, I wonder how he managed thato do it and it must have been a shock in more ways than one!!

I was always a 'minimalist' when it comes to ironing and now OH does it he's just the same!

We are so tired and achey now we are having an early night and a day off house clearing tomorrow to recover.

Evening all,

We've had another beautiful sunny day here ,i have been to the tip with another load of rubbish,i did feel bad though as a young chap working there came over to help and he banged his head on the boot lid ,he was really tall and just caught it ,he seemed ok he said it wasn't the first time and wouldn't be the last .

All this apple picking and peeling going on :-D they did say it would be a good year for apples and it is by the sound of things :-D

Oh heck Mel poor OH getting a shock like that :-0

I do a boil wash ,i like to put my t towels and hand towels in a boil wash now and then ,it also helps to give the machine a good clean through the pipes, i do quite a mixture of washes really ,30 wash,40 wash and also a 60 .

Little Lewis has started crawling this week :-D

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Sep 2015 18:59

I'm maing sheep sh*t pie for our dinner tonight.

Liz I bil the bathtowels that are light coloured and the tea towels and dish cloth. Oh is the one who like a dish cloth and if I hav'nt enough for a full load I boil it in a sausepan on the cooker. When you think of all the times Igo round to the chickens and through their run and if I drop a cloth on the floor then it goes in the boil wash. I also put our flannels in their or my cotton pillow cases. It makes a difference to the whiteness of oh's white polo shirts too as he gets them so dirty in the garden. Also I like the smell of a boil wash whenits been out in a cold wind. You just can't beat it.

I hav'nt had a chance to look out that apple chutney recipe yet Gill but may have a look tonight. Have you got a microwave?

magpie

magpie Report 24 Sep 2015 19:27

Oh, I see Mel, I sometimes boil handkerchiefs in a saucepan prior to the machine, but that's it!! My SIL who lives in France during the summer, always washes in cold water, in her French machine. You can get washing powder specially for a cold wash in Europe. The weather is always so hot it bleaches whites while drying, and colours she dries in the shade under the overhang at the back of the house, which is purpose built. Tomorrow Cas (and us) are off for a bit of gun dog training! This should concentrate her mind!!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Sep 2015 20:03

Good luck tomorrow Liz with the training.

I have my flu jab tomorrow at 3 mins past 12 and oh has his 3 mins later so we go in together. He is also going to get weighed as we don't trust our scales and I think he may have lost quite a bit of weight. My scales went right the way round to the 1 again and the highest number onthem is 19 stone!!

All this work must have helped and we hav'nt been having cake in the afrternoon so much andhe has'nt had any cake at lunchtimes and he has been having wraps instead of bread and lots of salad.

Annx

Annx Report 24 Sep 2015 20:09

I do just about the same as Mandy......a variety of temperatures. Mostly 40 degrees, but a boil wash occasionally with a cap of dettol laundrywash cleans the machine and stops any smells from it. We don't use flannels as we don't need them in the shower and dishcloths are used for wiping tops and the cooker and microwave mostly. The cloths get soaked in weak bleach.

My sister had to have her 15 year old collie cross Meg put down today. She used to take her walksusing her mobility scooter. She's going to miss her after all this time, as she was a little puppy when she got her.

I've put back on the weight I lost with all the worry and problems this year Mel and have started cutting back again this week. We started having too many treats, puddings and cake with our cuppas so it has to stop. Your OH is doing well by the sound of it. Are you still doing well with the ciggies?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Sep 2015 22:10

Yes still doing ok on the ciggy front. arn't I a good girl. I still fancy one after dinner though when oh goes outside to have his.

Oh dos'nt use a flannel but I use one to wash with in the shower as I have quite a dry skin and don't find just hands clear the dead skin away. You make a new layer of skin every 4 days and your skin gets drier as you get older.

Meant to say I really enjoyed WDYTYA tonight. What a pedigree............ I won't say what incase anyone has recorded it but it was the best one I have seen.

Going in the shower now so I only need a freshen up for my flu jab in the morning.

Night night.

Did anyone see Frank Gardner on WDYTYA last night? It was so good we both managed to watch it without having a snooze!!
Lovely morning here, and we're off out with our baby after lunch for her 'lesson'!! Then we shall do a bit of shopping.
Oh, here's OH with our early morning cuppa, then it's a shower while he gets breakfast! Mind you it's only toast and coffee! You can get really good shower sponges Mel. They're made of a roughish sort of material and are brilliant for a good scrub.
