Frank Report 3 Oct 2015 10:42

Morning my beauties Evening Kim,

Jane, it could be that as the morning are getting colder, Thomas has the sense to stay in a warm bed till a bit later. You wait until the clocks go back, he will be indoors with you DAY AND NIGHT. I can just see him round the wood burner all cuddled up on a cushion.

Pat, Ruby lives in South Carolina, I think Gill is by Ellesmere Port. Cheshire. It's a bit naughty of the builder and painter, letting you down at this late stage. I hope it doesn't hold up anything else.

Ann, It's hardly worth opening the class for only three of you. But I suppose you do get a lot of one to one tuition .
Ros only had two small pieces of LEAN LAMB and a few veg, but at least it stayed in her tummy, and she has had a small bowl of serial this morning. So hopefully this is the end of it. !!!

Yes Jane, When It will be for us to get an invite, who knows ??? It could be it was a gesture for all the hard work Ros has put in !!! She did come home with a nice bunch of flowers..

I must have missed Gill having a viewing over the weekend. My that was QUICK. The agents only came on Tuesday. At this rate you will have people queuing down the street to view your bungalow :-D :-D :-D :-D

Jane has been on Skype saying how busy Conrad is being on his own. He's leaving at 8.00 in the mornings and not getting home till after 10.00 at night. He is unable to do any washing or cleaning and making do regards food. That got Ros worrying, and said SHOULD WE GO OUT THERE, so I can look after him. He's 46 years old. !!! Jan said it's a beautiful sunny day down there, where as it's very overcast here, they do say it will burn off. BUT WHEN ???

All fed and watered this end, so into the shower and get dressed ready for the lunchtime pint and football.

Behave yourselves while I am gone

;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Good heaven's Frank I would have thought your son could look after himself at his age however busy he is. Surely his wife should do the looking after not his Mum!!! Our sons marriage broke up when he was 37, luckily we lived too far away, so he had to go into digs for a while, but even if we'd lived close we wouldn't have had him living with us. He was old enough, and had been for years, to sort himself out, which he and his new partner did with the minimum of fuss.
Sun breaking through here so should be another lovely day.

Morning All or Afternoon All

Well where is the sun? It is so cloudy still here but it did show on the weather that we should get the sun a bit later.I hope so as I have a load of washing on the line and another load in the machine.

Frank is there not a Laundry service where Conrad is that would collect and do and then deliver back his washing.I bet there will be.I'm sure he must be doing some washing at least other wise he would be ponging :-S :-S..

I am going to be ponging in a minute as I am frying onions (lots of them) ready to go in a dish for tomorrow.I am doing extra for my Sister as she could eat them until they came out of her ears !..I decided to do that nice weird Rice and Lentil recipe with spicy tomato sauce, and 2 different flavoured Chicken Crowns. One is the Memphis BBQ one and the other Has an Aromatic Rub .I'll do the rice and lentil thing today and that can just be heated up tomorrow when the Chickens are in.

I better make a start.

Gill I hope the veiwing went well just now :-D

Afternoon all

What a horrible day weather wise today, all damp and foggy. I'm having problems with my router again so it's taken me ages to get online, then when I finally did, there was no box again for me to post anything on the thread. I had to come out of it and sign back in a few times before it showed.......very strange. Does this happen to anyone else?

Glad to hear Ros is feeling better now Frank. I do think at 46 your son is capable of looking after himself, but I suppose Ros is just concerned and that's why she's worried. I'm sure he'll cope though.

So Thomas is sleeping in more now Jane, could it be the darker mornings. I noticed what looks like a dead squirrel on my neighbours front lawn this morning, I hope it's not Rosie, I haven't seen her for ages. There are so many cats around here and they are always chasing the squirrels and with Rosie having a paw that doesn't work very well she might not have been able to run fast enough to get away. Hope it isn't her

The viewing went reasonably well, although it only lasted 20 minutes. I'm wondering if the lady is looking at other properties as well today. She liked the garden and said her sister would like it as there are lots of birds. Apparently her sister lives in Peterborough and wants to move here to be closer to her. The lady that came today lives in Liverpool and as luck has it the Liverpool bus stops right at the end of our road. I got the impression it was her wanting the move more than her sister, so we'll just have to wait and see what the feedback is from the Agent. I noticed that the Agents changed the date on Righ*move to October from September which is good, as that is what we asked for. Although they still haven't put the floorplan online yet, even though it's on the brochure. Not a biggy, but we are paying for it so it should be online as well.

Sandra has decided we are watching Christmas films today, the first one starts in 10 minutes. She loves Christmas and noticed that channel 5 have a few on over the weekend.

Well, I'd better go Sandra has just put the TV on for her first film and wants me to watch it with her.

Oh Gill ,I hope it isn't your lovely Rosie :-(.That would be so sad. Fingers crossed she will turn up again.
Yes I think it is the darker mornings now with Thomas...But this morning I was woken by an Owl and not him :-S.he is not a happy puss right now as I just did his Flea treatment on the back of his neck .He's gone orf in a huff.!!

I hope the lady who came this morning tells her Sister that your place is just the right thing for her :-D . So it is Christmas films now then lol Has Sandra got the Xmas bug already? :-D :-D
I have the laptop in the kitchen on the worktop while I continue cooking...Chris just came in from the garden and said how on earth could I be using so many pans and dishes!!!!!!!.I just said not to worry .He won't be doing the washing up .I will do it as I go along..I'm glad I am doing it today though as it is a bit of a palaver :-S
I am getting there now .

Still no sun here.I think the weather people got it wrong for our neck of the woods :-S :-S

Evening all

We've had the sun again today so we've been in the garden putting things back behind the shed now that hubby has finished painting .
Hubby had to go at lunch time for his Flu jab and then this afternoon we sat out in the sun .
Tomorrow is hubby's birthday and we have the family coming for roast beef lunch and birthday cake .

Mel i think this time of year when we get the dewy mornings on the cobewbs it looks so pretty .
Hows the throat today any better ? and what about OH is he feeling better ?

Oh Gill i hope it's not your Rosie in next doors garden ,have you seen her go into the front gardens ? hope you see her soon so you know she's ok.
So not to bad with the viewing then ,she didn't say no !! perhaps as you say the lady had several to look at and had to get round them all , hopefully you'll get some feed back from the agent .

Annx Report 3 Oct 2015 20:37

Evening All,

Conrad is working long hours at the moment and sounds like he could do with getting some help with things while he's bogged down with work. His good lady might not appreciate his mum running after him though! As Jane says there must be laundries and cleaners available he could use just while he's working these long hours.

I don't think it's a wife's or anybody's job to run after a grown man. It's good to lend a bit of support and help when it's needed and appreciated, but there shouldn't be an expectation that it's their job.

I hope your place is growing on the lady Gill. It must look good now after all the work you and your OH have done recently and no chain is a big plus as Mel says. Oh dear, I hope the squirrel isn't your Rosie too. I expect they are on the ground a lot gathering and burying food just now and easier prey for cats.

Jane I was amazed too how far back Lady Godiva was!! If the tree is right she is my many, many times gt grandmother!! I've started googling some of the people in the tree and there are some wealthy, landed families involved. I just need to double check a small bit as the earlier part of the tree all matches with the peerage site.

Frank, the classes are all paid for in advance at the beginning of term so they don't lose any money if few turn up for a lesson. They will all be back next week I expect.

We had the man this time for the fused glass workshop today. I did nick my finger slightly twice but didn't need to use a plaster! ;-) A few of the other ladies did though. I did another dish, this time with a goldfish design and 2 more coasters with twigs on them this time. Then a few bits and bobs like pendants and a snowman for the Christmas tree :-) Now we have to wait a few weeks till they are fired. They had a load of stalls set up in the school hall today and they were all covered in model horses! This link tells you about it. It's like a real horse show but for model horses! You learn something every day! http://bmecs.weebly.com/

Sounds like there will be nice treats for your hubby's birthday tomorrow Mandy with a nice lunch and birthday cake. I bet the little ones get excited about him opening their presents...........and about sampling the cake!!

We got one of those big plastic wheely bucket things from B*Q yesterday. I think it was only about £15 and we thought it would be better than a wheelbarrow for emptying the shed at MIL's and wheeling round the front to the skip when we arrange one. There's loads of wood in there and the planks can stand upright in it whereas they'd fall out of a wheelbarrow. It'll be handy in the garden after for putting the prunings in or wheeling stuff about.

I missed the second Patagonia prog last night. It does annoy me that s*y don't have a 'link' for all their series. I must remember the last one next week.

Now here's an old memory that sprang to mind today. Dad often used to mention 'Gunga Din' in phrases. Does anyone know what that was about!!

I can't stop yawning now so I think I shall toddle off to bed.

Gillx

Gillx Report 3 Oct 2015 21:21

http://www.kiplingsociety.co.uk/poems_gunga.htm

It's a poem by Rudyard Kipling Ann. I think the phrase you are thinking of is:-
"You're a better man than I am Gunga Din"

It's the last line of the poem. It's about a slave who was very good to his master, even though his master wasn't very nice to him. It explains it better in the poem. I've put the link up for you to read.

OH has not long got in from work so I asked him to see if it was Rosie on next doors lawn, unfortunately the squirrel isn't there anymore, probably taken by a cat or dog, so unless Rosie turns up here I'll never know if it was her.

Well, I've got Casualty on hold so I'd better go and watch it with OH and Sandra

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Oct 2015 21:55

My dad used to quote bits of this poem too.

Gunga Din
By Rudyard Kipling
You may talk o’ gin and beer
When you’re quartered safe out ’ere,
An’ you’re sent to penny-fights an’ Aldershot it;
But when it comes to slaughter
You will do your work on water,
An’ you’ll lick the bloomin’ boots of ’im that’s got it.
Now in Injia’s sunny clime,
Where I used to spend my time
A-servin’ of ’Er Majesty the Queen,
Of all them blackfaced crew
The finest man I knew
Was our regimental bhisti, Gunga Din,
He was ‘Din! Din! Din!
‘You limpin’ lump o’ brick-dust, Gunga Din!
‘Hi! Slippy hitherao
‘Water, get it! Panee lao,
‘You squidgy-nosed old idol, Gunga Din.’

The uniform ’e wore
Was nothin’ much before,
An’ rather less than ’arf o’ that be’ind,
For a piece o’ twisty rag
An’ a goatskin water-bag
Was all the field-equipment ’e could find.
When the sweatin’ troop-train lay
In a sidin’ through the day,
Where the ’eat would make your bloomin’ eyebrows crawl,
We shouted ‘Harry By!’
Till our throats were bricky-dry,
Then we wopped ’im ’cause ’e couldn’t serve us all.
It was ‘Din! Din! Din!
‘You ’eathen, where the mischief ’ave you been?
‘You put some juldee in it
‘Or I’ll marrow you this minute
‘If you don’t fill up my helmet, Gunga Din!’

’E would dot an’ carry one
Till the longest day was done;
An’ ’e didn’t seem to know the use o’ fear.
If we charged or broke or cut,
You could bet your bloomin’ nut,
’E’d be waitin’ fifty paces right flank rear.
With ’is mussick on ’is back,
’E would skip with our attack,
An’ watch us till the bugles made 'Retire,’
An’ for all ’is dirty ’ide
’E was white, clear white, inside
When ’e went to tend the wounded under fire!
It was ‘Din! Din! Din!’
With the bullets kickin’ dust-spots on the green.
When the cartridges ran out,
You could hear the front-ranks shout,
‘Hi! ammunition-mules an' Gunga Din!’

I shan’t forgit the night
When I dropped be’ind the fight
With a bullet where my belt-plate should ’a’ been.
I was chokin’ mad with thirst,
An’ the man that spied me first
Was our good old grinnin’, gruntin’ Gunga Din.
’E lifted up my ’ead,
An’ he plugged me where I bled,
An’ ’e guv me ’arf-a-pint o’ water green.
It was crawlin’ and it stunk,
But of all the drinks I’ve drunk,
I’m gratefullest to one from Gunga Din.
It was 'Din! Din! Din!
‘’Ere’s a beggar with a bullet through ’is spleen;
‘’E's chawin’ up the ground,
‘An’ ’e’s kickin’ all around:
‘For Gawd’s sake git the water, Gunga Din!’

’E carried me away
To where a dooli lay,
An’ a bullet come an’ drilled the beggar clean.
’E put me safe inside,
An’ just before ’e died,
'I ’ope you liked your drink,’ sez Gunga Din.
So I’ll meet ’im later on
At the place where ’e is gone—
Where it’s always double drill and no canteen.
’E’ll be squattin’ on the coals
Givin’ drink to poor damned souls,
An’ I’ll get a swig in hell from Gunga Din!
Yes, Din! Din! Din!
You Lazarushian-leather Gunga Din!
Though I’ve belted you and flayed you,
By the livin’ Gawd that made you,
You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din!

You're right Ann! I didn't mean 'job' exactly, perhaps a wife's 'place' is a better description!! as I totally agree with you, it shouldn't be anyone's 'job' to run round a grown man, husband or son! help and support of course, but not the expectation that he will automatically be waited on! Certainly never happens in this house, and never has or will!!!
Tomorrow we're up early as our machine is being collected at 10 o'clock. Then we're off to see daughter for the day.

Morning all

The sun's out so that's good, I might check how much paint I've got to see if there is enough to paint the fence. OH has took the car to work today because he's taken all the spare apples for his friends horses and anyone else who wants some, so I can now get to the fence to paint it.

What is everyone else doing today?

magpie

magpie Report 4 Oct 2015 10:37

Chaps are here for the machine - hooray!! After this we're off to daughter and grandchildren for the rest of the day,
You'll be glad to get rid of all those apples Gill!! Do you not drive? I just wondered as you said about your OH having to move the car from the fence. We're down to one car now, as neither of us works anymore and we almost always go out together these days, running two is an expense we can do without!!
Just off to hang some washing, hope the fog lifts a bit!!!

Frank Report 4 Oct 2015 12:23

Afternoon all,

I forgot about the Patagonia programme last night. I think there is a repeat during the week. I must look out for it. How interesting it was last week.

Well it looks like I may have caught the bug. FIVE times this morning, and my tummy is rumbling still. We are suppose to be going out with Carolyn at 2.00 pm for a train ride on John's train, it's the train clubs final meeting at the park in Northampton. Then we have been invited to their house for dinner about 5.00 pm. If I don't feel up to it I will miss out on the trip, and meet up with them later for dinner. I can't take the risk of being in an open park, wanting the toilet.

It's not the case of worrying over Conrad managing on his own. More to the point of helping him as I know he would help us. He has lived on his own for many years, doing all his washing, ironing cooking and cleaning without any help from us !!!! and will no doubt continue to do so.

When we go down there for Christmas and New year. He will prepare and cook all meals without any help from anyone. He is a very capable person !!!!

I hope you will be able to eat out Jane, It will be the last chance this week. I see the rain and wind is coming tonight, Monday and Tuesday. Does Fitz come to lunch at yours without his wife ???

Gill I hope the viewing was a success. Time will tell ;-) ;-) ;-)

Ros is out pottering around the garden again this morning. I really should try to help, but as I can't bend and kneel there's not a lot I can do.

No dinner to cook today, so I think I am on Holiday :-D :-D

I see England are out of the World Cup :-( :-( :-(

Catch you later.
