Morning all
Cloudy day here today and not very warm either. It definitely feels like Autumn now.
Nothing planned for today. I've been so busy this year there's nothing left to do now, so I'll probably take a look at my family tree again. I managed to find quite a few people yesterday, which was good.
OH is back in work, he's been off for 2 days as he wasn't feeling very well, he thinks it's because he got so wet cleaning the drive the other day and being out in the cold for so long. He's feeling a bit better today so has gone back to work. Sandra is still asleep and will probably be asleep for a few hours yet....She's not a morning person <3
Hope everyone has a nice day BBL

Morning Gill and all and evening Kim,
Same weather as you Gill here this morning, even oh said it was colder.
My right hand thumb cracked open yesterday up the side about a quarter of an inch from the base of the nail. It is so sore. I keep putting vaseline onit so suppose I have another day of this now.

Sorry to hear your thumb is sore Mel, hope the Vaseline works.
Sandra's just gone out with mum, I'm not feeling very well today so have stayed at home in the warmth.
I've found a few more people on my tree, but then got stuck, so I'm going to move onto someone else and see how I get on there. I've got quite a few gaps so I'm trying to get everyone down to the present day if I can. At least It keeps me out of trouble :-) :-) ;-)

Morning all, Evening Kim,
Wee, yesterday afternoon/evening I tried FOUR times to post and each time I LOST it.
Slightly overcast here today, and the grass is very wet, so no lawn cutting here this morning.
I have steamed a saucepan of tomato's this morning and skinned them. They are now ready to go into bags and be frozen for use when we need them.
Gill have you had anymore thoughts about your Agents ?? I thought you said you were happy with your choice !! How many more agents are there around your area. ?? You might run out if your not careful :-D :-D :-D
I've given up on you MANDY.. Here I sat this morning, all ready to go to the seaside, and now you say you are going Sunday.!!! I can't go tomorrow ;-) ;-) ;-)
Went to watch England play last night. They won 2 - 0 but not a good performance. MUST DO BETTER !!!!
How old was Hugh Scully ?? I recognise the name but can't place him.
I see we are in for a cold snap with Easterly winds. Night temps. down to 8 degrees. daytime might reach 14.
Think I will give the pub a miss at lunchtime. No football on to speak of. and Ruby on at 2.00 pm. Which I am not into.
Will settle down with my book until Ros comes home about 1.30 pm from her Saturday morning out with Martine.
The gas board are still next door. The latest is, the gas pressure is still too low,. They are digging another Bloo#y hole this morning, the "JACK HAMMER" is driving me MAD. Pam said they are no further on than when they started last TUESDAY. So B.G. aren't making any money from this JOB !!!!

Afternoon All
I have declared Autumn and have lit the woodburner !!!!..I have to keep an eye on it as there is no layer of ash as it was all cleared out when it was serviced .It's roaring away at the moment and burning the logs up really fast.So I will have to close the vent things a bit in a minute. I went to town earlier and all the leaves were falling from the trees at Wicksteed Park. The colours suddenly seemed to have turned now.
Mel I wonder if you can smother the thumb and then wrap it up for a while so the vaseline gets chance to work its way into the crack ..I know those splits are soooo painful :-S.
Gill, that is good to have a bit of time to yourself today.Just sit ,do your tree and relax <3..At least now your agent has done all that needs to advertise your house.Lets hope they push the sale now.
Oh dear Frank no seaside trip for you then LOL .You will have to put that bucket and spade away and the flip flops ;-)Another day :-D :-D So Mandy is off tomorrow .I bet it might be a bit fresh on the coast now. We are going to Hannah tomorrow with the car full of cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, tools etc.I think she wants help to dismantle her bed and maybe bring all the slats ,headboard etc downstairs. She will just sleep on the mattress until they move. She is doing lunch for us and James and Jess.
Ann I bet you are pleased you cleared your garage when you did..You never expected it to be filled up again so soon !!!!..Have you thought of doing a car boot sometime? I was thinking also about all the pots and pans, baking trays etc.Could they go to people struggling to set up homes, like single mums, and people on the poverty line who are struggling to buy basic equiptment .
Yesterday afternoon was going to be a day spent in the garden doing jobs. Well we spent it in the garden ,but with Fitz !!!!!.He came up with his photos from Lake Como.Needless to say we got nothing done.He arrived at 12.30 and left at 5 !!!!.I managed to rustle up a lunch .The sun shone for the whole afternoon and it was smashing.Too much of the wine again though :-S
Pork Chops in Apple and Mustard Sauce for us tonight :-D.The picture looks lovely in the recipe book,so I hope mine turns out just like it :-D.I am not a fan of fruit with meat really so might give Chris all the apple bits. The fire needs attention .

Afternoon all,
Started off dry here but now we have quite a steady rain and the sky doesn't look like it's going to clear any time soon .
It's good job we didn't go to the coast Frank we would have needed our wet weather gear !! Hugh Scully was on the Antiques roadshow i think i read he was 72, also i see Geoffrey Howe has died at the age of 88 .
Mel i get splits like that on the sides of my thumbs and they can be really sore as it's right where you grip things !! i usually put some Savl*n on it and cover with a plaster over night and by the morning the soreness has usually gone . Hope your gums not to sore where the tooth came out .
Sorry to hear your not feeling so well Gill, i'd have a day of rest your always working hard it will do you good to rest up a bit .
Where's Jane ? we didn't hear from her yesterday did we ? I meant to say the photo's of Maureen's grandchildren were lovely ,they have grown and there will soon be another ,it was nice to hear that Maureen was ok
Hubby's watching the racing now ,he had been outside making up the new trellis until the rain started .

I remember Hugh Scully very well from the 60's when he was with Westward Television.I always liked him.I had forgotten he was on the Antiques Roadshow. No rain here but is now looking very grey :-S.The fire smells a bit fishy :-S :-S.But I think it must be to do with what ever they used to clean it out.Hopefully the pong will burn off.Chris has just brought another basket of logs in :-D

Oh just missed you Jane :-D We've had our Wood burner going for a couple of weeks now just in the evening it just takes the chill off the room . We will soon have to get a load logs delivered ,we have lots of wood that hubby has chopped up ,in fact we have the wood shed full and a lean to that hubby built beside the shed thats full up, but i like the logs for the winter they look nice stacked beside the wood burner . I'am now thinking of lighting ours as my arms are quite chilly .
Son called in this morning for hubby's hot air gun ,he needs it as he has to put a new screen on one of the childrens tablets as it got cracked , he loves doing things like that ,he can pull all sorts to bits and mend it ,i tell him he gets it from his Grandad ( my dad ) he loved mending things too .

Afternoon all
You'll have Thomas thinking you have some fish in your house, he'll be trying to hunt it down Jane. Hope the smell burns off soon.
It's still quite cold here with no sun, just plenty of cloud, it definitely feels like Autumn. My mum took Sandra out earlier to a jumble sale, Sandra loves things like that and bought quite a few things for herself, including a CD for 10p it's the same CD I bought myself years ago and she said she liked it so now has a copy for herself. I paid a lot more than 10p though. She also got herself a Coronation Street game with lots of questions about the programme which she wants her Dad and I to play with her when he's off work again. Hope I can remember all the names of the characters.....probably won't, I'm useless at remembering names, so that'll be me coming last in the game LOL
So going to the coast was a wash out then Mandy? You never know there maybe one or two more days of good weather in the next week or so then you can make the trip before the winter sets in......Frank is ready and waiting :-D :-D
I checked on my freezer in the garage last night and noticed it needed turning up a bit, I'm not sure what number to put it on so I just turned the dial until it made a noise. I will check it shortly and see if it's up to the right temperature then I can put the stewed apples in there and freeze the rest of the apples I have stored in the garage raw. With not feeling very well these past couple of days I still haven't made the apple cake...that'll have to wait until I feel a bit better. OH found another bag of apples in the garage the other day that he forgot to take to work so I might just freeze them raw too.
I have the living people hidden on my tree Mel, so it shouldn't be a problem, plus I always ask first anyway. I've been in touch with a 5th cousin and it's her family. She's ok with me copying her tree.
Sorry to hear the Jack Hammer is going again today Frank, there's nothing worse that the continued noise all day is there? Hope they sort the problem out soon. Do you have any ear plugs, maybe that might help if you do.
Thanks for your PM Liz, I've replied
Going to have a lay down now. I've still got a headache even though I've taken some painkillers and now my throat is feeling a bit sore too, hope I feel better soon, I'm rubbish at being ill........I'm ok looking after other people who are sick though.
I forgot the F1 qualifying was on today, so I might watch that with the sound down very low. It's lucky I record it for OH or I'd of missed it altogether. BBL

Yes lovely pic of th bridge Frank.Sorry I meant to say yesterday . Gill Chris carried Thomas in from the summerhouse where Thomas was having a snooze and put him in front of the fire.He wasn't sure about it at all lol.But I am sure he will get used to it once he knows how warm it will be .He has gone out to torment the wildlife again now :-S
Hannah just send me a 20 minute video of her friends wedding in Italy...Oh it was lovely.made me all weepy.Weddings do that don't they.
So Frank can you hear me????? or have you got your earplugs in with that Jack Hammer going :-S.I hope it doesn't go on all day.
Gill it sounds like Sandra had a good time buying things this morning.I bet you will enjoy the Corrie game and the names will come back to you.You might not come last :-D..I have not heard the word 'Jumble Sale' in a long time.Do they still do 50/50 sales? I do remember Jumble Sales in our old village hall. The queue would be so long before the doors opened, and the first people in would be the ones buying stuff up to then sell on again.Bit like our modern day Boot Sales.I have done 2 Car Boots. The first one was when the children were still quite young and we had a lot of their toys and bikes etc to get rid of.They were thrilled with the money they got from selling their things. The second one I did was after Chris's Parents had passed away and we had loads of stuff from their house .One chap bought all the crested china (without even looking) another bought lots of china.I could hardly keep up .But I think those people were dealers and they were quite pushy.Chris refused to go with me so my friend from Wales came to stay and we did the Car boot together.I think I made nearly £300
We haven't heard from Harry again...Hope I haven't scared him off by saying I live close by !!!

Just ironed a load of shirts.Nothing else needs doing for now.So now I am doing nothing until I start dinner.I might do a bit of colouring :-D.Don't know where Thomas has gone .Over and across all the backs of gardens I reckon. Mel I never play any games on the pooter.I don't think I have even ever looked.Trouble is if I start i will get hooked so I think I will abstain :-D How is the crack in thumb now? Any less painful after the vaseline?
I think the smell from the fire is less now (unless I have just got used to it.
Mel I wouldn't be surprised if my friend Sue was to go to Hugh Scully's funeral. She used to work for TSW ....I think it was nice if Hugh Scully just died peacefully watching TV.That is the way to go. Chilly outside here now.

Afternoon All,
Fine and dry here but autumnal with the the leaves on the trees looking beautiful. We were up early and over to the house again for a couple of hours. I found a couple of old matchboxes this morning filled with odds and sods. They are made of wood and you can tell their age by what is written on the back.......I'll send a pic. More old radio valves and I see on ebay they can be worth a few bob, same with all the bakelite switches so I might have to root those out again! We had a look in the shed extension today and I found the nice black metal birdfeeders I bought them a few years ago! Hurrah, something I can use!! I thought they'd given them to the neighbour with the bird feeding station, but they must have given them the vivid coloured plastic ones they replaced the black ones with. There's enough weedkiller of different sorts to treat half an acre I should think and we found more paint tins and 5 pairs of secateurs ,more new scissors, yet another box full of paper supplements about the royal family, 2 more old sprayguns and so it goes on. We cleared more stuff in the kitchen, loads of tinopeners of all kinds, foodmixers, several meatslicers, all the old ones kept when new ones bought. We both filled our car boots, then I went on to Nuneaton to look for cardigans (changed into better clothes at Mor*isons on the way!) and OH went home to go to a match with his pal. Yes, were were going to do some car boots with our own stuff in the spring, so will need to do several now I think. I think I've done about 4 car boots before and usually make £100-£200. It pays for a few meals out!! :-D I've never heard of a 50/50 sale....,,,what is that? I used to go to a few jumble sales with mum years ago and the churches round here seem to have similar 'table top' sales.
Lately near MIL's I've noticed companies signwriting to advertise their companies on small Smart cars and parking them sideways in laybys so people in passing cars will notice the adverts.
Gill, it's a good idea to rest up today if you haven't felt well. You've done an awful lot the last few months! I bet Sandra was thrilled with her finds and will have you playing the game pretty soon!
Well that should save a bit of money having the tooth pulled Mel! The teacher gave us a list yesterday of what we'll be making.......quite a lot of bracelets again! We are using a lot of 2 hole beads this term, either tila beads or superduo beads. The one we made last week was nice and very simple to do, just beads and jump rings.........I'll send a pic when I finish mine.
Thanks for sending the pics of Maureen's grandchildren Jane, they are growing up fast and another to be added soon. It's a shame Maureen isn't on GR any more, I miss her posts.
I'd forgotten who Geoffrey Howe was till I looked him up. Isn't it amazing how everything that is so topical at the time is barely remembered in 30 years time. I was thinking yesterday how you don't see very many Peugeot 206 cars like the one I had in 1999 anymore, then realised it was 16 years ago so it's not surprising :-S
I hope you managed to enjoy your book Frank. Did the pneumatic hammer stop after a while? You can come and do my tomatoes if you like. We have bowls of them on the kitchen worktops and plenty more still ripening. :-)

Ann,I think a 50/50 sale was where people donated things and when things were sold te seller kept 50% and the donator had 50%. I think that is right. I just remember many 50/50 sales in the village hall.

I think the jumble sale was to raise funds for the church my mum goes to Jane. I went last year with mum and Sandra but didn't feel up to it this year. I didn't know what a 50/50 sale was either, nice idea though.
I remember one of our cats not liking the fire at first Jane, but then she ended up laying in front of it all the time through the cold months. Once she realised how warm it was, none of us could get anywhere near LOL.
You could open a shop with all the stuff you've found Ann, good job you sorted the garage out isn't it?
Yes I might remember some of the names of the characters on Corrie Jane, failing that they'll be called "THINGYMAJIG" and "WHATSIT" or "YOU KNOW, THAT WOMAN OR THAT MAN" LOL. It'll make Sandra laugh if nothing else :-D :-D
Going to watch "Strictly" with Sandra now, I recorded it for her earlier, OH will be in soon and will want to watch the F1 qualifying, so I'd better go. BBL

Morning all
Very cloudy today, no sign of any sunshine. Autumn is finally here and there's a nip in the air too.
How did Thomas get on with your Woodburner Jane, did he go near it again? Cat's aren't daft though, he'll soon realise it's the best place to sleep when the really cold weather gets here :-) :-)
How's your thumb today Mel? Hope it's healing ok for you and not so sore now.
Have BG finished the pipe work yet Frank or have they got to come back next week? Did your neighbour have any hot water or heating while the job was being done? The weather has turned a bit chilly so they'd need some heating. Hope all the digging is finished now so you can relax in peace and quiet again.
What is everyone up to today, anything fun?
