Afternoon All,
OH went to the hospital to see FIL last night and was told they were concerned as he had deteriorated further with his breathing and was on oxygen. They had done an xray and blood tests and his potassium levels were also low. They said obviously he has several underlying problems anyway, but that he also has a bad chest infection, so that together with fluid build up from his heart failure was affecting his breathing. They have given him antibiotics and said they would need to keep him under observation for a few days to see how things went. By the time OH left at about 4.00am this morning his breathing was a lot better and he was more with it and pleased to see OH, but was very sleepy. At least he wasn't confused and agitated like he was last time at the city hospital. The poor soul had forgotten it was his birthday today and asked how old he was and looked pleased to hear he was 95 now. :-) OH looks shattered and says he is getting too old for these night time capers! He said thank goodness his dad wasn't young when he was born otherwise he could be doing this at the age of 75 if his dad had had him at the age of 20!! OH has decided to carry on and go to his meeting later today, then his pal is driving him to a match at Solihull so he's going to that as well as he won't be doing the driving. He can soon get back from there if needs be.
I bet Jane and Fitz will be enjoying a few glasses with their lunch!! ;-) Yes, it sounds like Chris's hat has taken on it's own identity!!!
That was a nasty fall your OH had Gill, but then it could have been much worse. I hope his arm soon improves and that he tries not to use it too much for a while. We had that awful distemper at my old house and had particular trouble with the ceiling paint flaking. I did loads of sanding too, but it still tended to flake. I think in those days I painted diluted wallpaper paste on before I painted to stick it to the ceiling. It's good you both got a good night's sleep.
A lot of the old factories in the city here have been turned into flats too David. I must say I prefer the look of the old buildings to the later student blocks they have built. A lot are old hosiery buildings as that was an important thing here years ago. Wolsey was one manufacturer of socks among other things. Walking through the back streets to work after lunch in my 30s in the summer, the windows would all be open and you'd hear and see the spools of wool or cotton whirring inside!!
Well fancy the pheasants eating snowdrop flowers Mel! I learn something new every day on here! :-)

Sorry to hear your FIL has to stay in hospital, especially on his birthday, but pleased to hear he's feeling a bit better and his breathing is getting there too. I didn't think of wall paper paste Ann. I'll do that instead of the PVA and water solution as it's easier to work with I should think. Yes OH was very lucky he didn't break any bones, he was very close to banging his head on the bungalow wall or the cast iron bench we have outside. His arm is a bit sore today so he's dosing himself up on pain killers and taking it easy for a day or two. The ceiling is a bit lower in the kitchen than the rest of the house so I can manage to do the jobs he would of done as we have another viewing on Friday so the ceiling will have to be finished by then and we're not sure how many coats of paint it's going to take, which can't be started until tomorrow as the filler has to have 24 hours to dry. We've also got the exterior insulation man coming round on Friday too, we cancelled the Monday appointment with OH being busy in the kitchen. So a busy day on Friday by the looks of it.
Thanks Mandy I look forward to the seeds arriving. I've never grown Canna seeds before so I'm looking forward to planting them up.
OH isn't doing anything today Frank. I'm filling all the holes in the ceiling, there isn't many but one corner of the ceiling has dropped slightly so I'm trying my best to level it off so it doesn't stand out so much. Enjoy your match tonight, hope the weather isn't to cold, it's blowing a gale here and there are lots of black clouds around so we might end up getting some rain later on. I think it's storm Henry that's causing all this wind at the moment.
Well, I'd better get back to the filling, I was just having a break with a glass of wine, so Jane has some competition LOL, don't worry it's only one glass, I don't fancy having an accident with to many glasses of wine and being up a ladder.....not a good combination
I was wondering where Chris's hat was going to end up next to Mandy. We'll have to wait for Jane to tell us later. Wouldn't mind seeing the pics Jane :-D :-D

For those of you who watch Holby, tonight at 8pm there's a new character makes an appearance and a big impression. The actress (is that sexist?) used to play Judge John Dee's lover and before that shat she starred as a female Doctor at the turn of the century, her Father was a Doctor.

Good afternoon everybody
David I have never watched Holby but have seen the programme being advertised with that actress joining it.
Sorry to hear about your F.I.L. Ann at least he is in the right place at the moment, 95 is a good age but so sad he didn't remember how old he was.
Jane I hope you enjoyed your lunch with Fitz and of course the wine :-D :-D :-D.
I had some worrying news yesterday one of my great nephews [Peter's side] has to have a brain scan he woke up one morning and couldn't see a thing he was rushed into hospital for tests, he has made a recovery and can know see again. Although he is very young he is the father of 2 little girls their mum was onlv 16 when she had the first baby, Fortunately they live with his Mum, Melissa who has a 5 bedroom house,so plenty of room, she was the one that lost her partner on holiday at the age of 46 two years ago.
Amy has been subscribed liquid medicine "Propalin" it will be easier than tablets as she often spits them out, she has to be dosed 3 times a day with food.Hopefully this will help her.

I'm a couple of weeks behind on Holby, I've recorded them and I'm hoping to watch them tomorrow, so will be recording tonight's Holby as well David.
Going to sort dinner out now, I'm really hungry. With being so busy I've not eaten anything yet today. OH said he would give the ceiling a light coat of paint so I can see what actually needs filling, as it's to hard to see. It'll make it easier for me to finish the job. He says his arm is ok for him to paint as it's his left arm and he's right handed. I did say to leave it for now, but he's insisting. It won't take him long as it's only a small room and he wouldn't do it if he didn't feel up to it. So I think I'll just let him get on with it.

We've just got BT back, not that we noticed as OH was out with Cas all afternoon, and I was engrossed in my book, and only realised that we hadn't got broadband when I tried to look something up! The problem was on the news so we waited till it had righted itself! Turned much colder here, so have opened up the log burner, for more heat and to cook supper. OH's PSA test results came today, and they're 'satisfactory', which is an enormous relief. We've got to have a chat with his GP to see if the hospital advises a more frequent test, as we still aren't sure whether the 'bump' where the prostate used to be is scarring, or? Bearing this in mind neither of us are taking any chances. Old age certainly isn't for sissies!! I agree with you wholeheartedly Frank about the fair division of labour in the house, particularly when neither one works anymore. OH has always been quite good about the place, (I did catch him young!!) but now we do try to share chores and help each other as much as possible. The evenings are certainly drawing out! soon be summer!!!

That's very disturbing news about your great nephew Anne. I hope there's a cure.
I'd a cousin, name of Richard, was called Dick. He was a qualified electrician. He suffered from diabetes. He had a wife and 2 children, 1 son 2 daughters. He went blind. I was sat reading to him one evening and his speech became blurred. I phoned for an ambulance, he was taken to the General Hospital. He had 2 strokes, died in hospital, early 30's

Done the donkey work and its all put away and we've had a COT and a couple of cream eclairs each.
Ann I am so pleased they have managed to give FIL something to help with his breathing and infection. Not really nice to spend your 95th birthday in hospital but the best place for him to be at the moment. I wonder if they would have had a little party for him at the home?
Typed this ages ago and forgot to post it AGAIN. What is my head like lately????? :-S :-S :-S
Hope Jane had a nice lunch with Fitzy. Would love to see these pics of the travelling hat please?

David can you please change your avatar. Thank you. I don't wish to see anyone sitting on a loo.
I told you my friend Di woke up one morning and could'nt see. It lasted about a week I think. It frightened the life out of her but she is ok now. She had glaucoma and had to go to the north devon hosp a few times.

Mel I don't think there was anything wrong with David's Avatar..The 'statue' on the loo, looked just lke the famous statue 'THE THINKER'...Can't think now of the name of the sculptor .
I will have look through the pics Chris sent of 'Hat' and pick one out to send :-D I just hope everyone I send it to knows what it is about LOL

Liz, I found a lump where the cancer was removed I rang the hospital and they saw me straight away, they took a sample of the fluid where it was and I had another mammogram but it was harmless scar .tissue It was such a relief. So I understand how you feel.
Jane I would also like to see the photo of Chris's hat.
The Thinker was by Rodin, I also realised where David got the picture from.

The statue of ' The Thinker' is actually sitting on a stone pedestal, not a loo. I've never seen it except in pictures, but it's a significant sculpture representing philosophy and learning. Thanks Anne, I'm sure, like you, it's nothing to worry about, but it just vaguely niggles. Jane, thanks for the photos, they came the right way up too!!!

Liz ,David must have downloaded his version from the web "The Thinker On The Loo" I've just looked it up :-D :-D :-D
My brother often lectures tour groups at the Rodin and the Louvre of course. I have only been to the Louvre and that was with the school many years ago.

I think there would have been a party, cake and a present from the home Mel. No doubt there will be a small do when he hopefully goes back. OH rang the hospital before he went out and they said he is no worse and is sleeping mostly.
Yes I thought the statue was Rodin's 'Thinker' too but couldn't remember where it was so thanks Jane. Fancy Fitz getting to grips with organising his FH!! He's been saying he should do it for a year or two now!! lol I really must sort out those other bits I said I'd send him. :-0 The trouble is they are on an extended drive which doesn't put them in the neat order I had them on my old PC which is a nuisance. :-S Chris's hat does look forlorn on the pole! lol. OH has taken his to tonight's match after freezing on Saturday.
Anne what a fright for the young man, it would scare anyone. I hope they find the cause. I said before that OH once woke with double vision that scared him and it turned out to be migraine. I bet you were relieved to find that fresh lump was scar tissue. You must have thought the worst at the time.
Gill, it seems that PVA is what is suggested for stabilizing distemper these days so I would stick with that if I were you. (sorry the pun was accidental!! lol)
I bet Ian's results are a load off both your minds Liz. As you say though it is sensible to see if more frequent monitoring is advised for a while.

I don't know why, but OH's default position when he does something wrong or has a problem is to always call ME!!!!! Yesterday he filled his car up while we were out and suddenly the car started rocking to and fro and my name was being called sharply. :-S Well he'd only gone and jammed the nozzle in the filler so tight he couldn't get it out again could he!!!! :-S It took us a few minutes of twisting and pulling to sort that out and goodness knows what we would have done if we hadn't been able to free it. Then only 5 minutes later, after we'd parked in the very windy supermarket car park and I'd set off to get a trolley while he got the bags out of the boot I heard my name shouted again. :-S :-S He'd opened the boot wide and all my (now precious!!) plastic carrier bags were being carried high and wafted in all directions by 'HENRY'. Again it was me being expected to retrieve them while he sorted something in his boot, but luckily the Polish car wash people saw what happened and chased after them. At home I still can't get some of the lids off the pickle jars as he jams them on too tight for me to get them off and we now have a porch light with a glass shade he can't unscrew because last time he put it back on too tight. I reckon we'll have to buy another fitting when the bulb goes as it's enclosed. I'm sick of looking at the bluebottle that met it's end and is upside down in it. :-S I cleaned these things out myself for years.....then he retired and we started sharing more of the jobs!!!!!!! :-S
