Way back people were very into making this and that out of this and that. Dolls bed out of shoe boxes, wooden dolls beds complete with sheets and blankets, a dolls pram made from my younger uncles milk float, and lots of other toys, even turning a girl teddy into a boy teddy. All of these were courtesy of my maternal G ranny! No one could make poppy ladies like my Granny!

I see some of the old ads and saying are popping up. W do find some bits to add to the thread.

The irst advert on ITV was the Wisdom Owl sliding down the toothbrush.

It's been a lovely her also, but OMG that wind is enough to freeze you to death.

I went next door to se what her trouble was. SHE didn't know how to conect the PRINTER to the LAPTOP. and didn't know how the pater went in the printer. !!! After sorting that out TWO MINUTES. She told me she goes to class's every week to learn about computers. I said you must take more notice of what the tell you, and make some notes. She has leads there that belong to others in the class ;-) ;-) ;-). I really do believe that she is going down with dementure (sp). She is totally in her own little world. Both Ros and the other Val. are worried about her at the choir pratice, she is never on the right page at the right time as everyone else. When I ask Tony how Val is, he just replies "ALLRIGHT"

What a wonderful sunset. I am just going to take a shot of it.

What a siilly old mad I am, went out to take the picture but the sim card was still in the computer from last time. Have now retaken it. Will try to send them on.

Those were the days my friend
Lots of make do and mend.
These days when it's past its best its sent to charity shop.

As former prime minister Harold McMillan once said, "you've never had it so good"

Harold Macmillan, Supermac, I think he was known as! Goodness David that's going back a bit!! Your neighbour does sound a bit off the planet Frank!! let's hope she doesn't get any worse! I've done a bit of gardening while OH was out. Pulled the remains of the brussels, and purple sprouting, so now it just needs rotovating when the weather improves! Not sure whether we will move the veg cage this year or just leave it where it is and compost the ground.

Evening All
I am loving all the old Adverts :-D..They certainly take me back a bit.

How old is Val Frank? It does sound a bit like she might have the signs of early Dementia.

Well this morning Chris and I took the car down to Cranford and we had a lovely walk around the village.Ending up at the Old Forge which is now a Teashop. They do Breakfasts,Lunches and Afternoon Tea.As it was midday we decided to have lunch and both chose the Cottage Pie with Carrots and Peas and it was lovely.I don't know why we don't go there more often.

It is going ot be another very very cold night tonight I see.It was a very heavy frost this morning .

Some chap knocked the front door earlier asking if we were intersted in selling the Skoda Yeit !!!!...I have a feeling he might have been a traveller. The answer was a big NO.
Best get James's dinner in.He will home shortly and no doubt starving.

I think McMillan was reminding the electorate that they were not long out of
rationing following a six year world war

Temp has really dropped out there now , we had hail this afternoon and sun .

Mel do you mean Lewis ? he's not very well at the moment he has a nasty cough and is just wanting cuddles all day bless him.

Frank i carn't see the sunset photo's it just goes blank when i click on it .

That sounds a bit dodgy Jane asking if your selling a car , did you see what vehicle he was in or was he on foot ?
You never know who's about ,he might have been knocking on doors to see who's about during the day .

Yes all these adverts it's nice to be reminded of them all ,Liz i remember Muffin the Mule :-D Bill and Ben and little Weed !! Andy Pandy ,when i was little i use to cry when it was time for them to wave bye bye :-(

I liked the BT ads with Maureen Lipman as Beatie ,the one where her grandson failed his exams and she says He gets an ology and he says he's failed... you get an ology you're a scientist. :-D

I use to like Camay soap , not so keen on the Coal Tar soap .

Nothing to do with rationing or six years of war, I think that Macmillan meant that there were many more goods on the market that with the advent of hire purchase more people could afford. There were plenty of jobs, rebuilding the country after the war, people started going on holiday, medical science was on the move, bomb sites were being turned into homes, there was a buzz in the air! and people were hopeful.

I remember the Bisto kids and my brother having the radio on at 1.45 for listen with mother he used to call it " quarter to two" Mum used to make him sit on the kitchen step if he was out playing when it started.

I remember bread units and tasting my first banana, sweet rationing too of course and utility furniture, When we were first married they were giving free sample full size boxes of persil and because the down stair flat was empty at the time I had two.

As a child I used to go to the ABC Minors on a Saturday, 6d to get in.
If it was your birthday you got a an orange or a tangerine.

I recall on the radio at lunch time Worker's Playtime
Remember Wilfred Pickles? What's on the table Mable? Food for prizes lol
His pianist was Violet Carson.

Oh yes David, I use to listern to W.P. Also "In town tonight" after thre Football results on Saturday Evening. "IT MA" Billy Cotton, Henry Hall's guest night. I could go on and On. Saturday ABC one would pay 6d and go the to exit and let 4 or 5 of us in thought the emergency exit door. Sometimes they were caught and sent out

My IRON MONKEY has just come in with a very high voice. I think it's cold outside ;-) ;-) ;-)

Jane in the little Pub still on the High Street in Cranford. ??

Mel I was thinking of Martin's only the other day. Going in there for Herrings for Mum to souce for Saturday tea, we would soak up the vinigar with bread and butter. Whitting for Friday Tea. Cheaper than Cod. <3 <3 Those were the days.

When sweets were on ration we would get 3d and our sweet ration book to go the the shop. When they came off rationing. We didn't have the money to buy lots of them. I think that's why I haven't got a sweet tooth. Unlike the children today. !!!

Liz, I still haven't decided what to do on rhe veg. patch. When it's better weather I will rotavate it and see where I go from there.

Anne my first Banana was when my Brother came home from the Army with a "HAND" of Banana's in his kit bag. They were still unripe and mum put them in the airing copboard to ripen. Too late I found them and ate one, made me sick as a dog. Never had another for years

I remember Wilfred Pickes! Who was the female comedienne who used to say 'Have you beeen'. Tommy Trinder, Max Wall in his black tights and funny walks. I used to love watching these!! The sand dance follows on from the boring beginning. I remember throwing dad's sand on the slabs outside and trying to copy them!! lol

I couldn't open your pics either Frank. I ate my first banana with the skin on and like you didn't touch one for years after.

I can remember Wilson Keppel and Betty and my dad calling me to come and see them dance the sand dance. Also Max Wall. My dad used to take them off sometimes and make me laugh. He was always doing silly little dances and funny walks. He used to jig all the way down our long hallway.

Was it Hilda Baker who said " Have you been?" to Eli?

Yes Ann,it was Hilda Baker.I used to love that programme :-D. Chris used to say I looked like Max Wall when I had leggings :-S...Past the stage of wearing them now and can just about get away with Jeggings :-D

Was it the Old Spice advert that had the handsome man surfing? My Dad used Old Spice for years.I think it must have been about the only aftershave around then .
Remember Brut !!!!..Our whole school stank of the stuff as the young lads would be covered in it ,and all the girls would swoon LOL

Another frosty morning out there.I am sitting in bed with a cuppa watching a couple of horses just coming out into the field from their overnight in the stables. They are rolling all over the ground and kicking their legs in the air :-D.I expect in a minute they will take off and have a bit of a run around.I love watching them do this.
