Mandy yes it is a slightly thicker batter. I make them from a very old book I have and cook them in a frying pan two or three at a time. We had them with a little butter spread on them and some jam.

Scotch Pancakes or Drop Scones.

6oz plain flour
pinch of salt
1/2 level tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 level tsp cream of tartar
1 tablespoon caster sugar
1 beaten egg
1 tsp golden syrup
1.4 pint plus three tablespoons milk
A piece of beef suet to grease the pan.( I use a bit of beef dripping.)

1. Sieve dry ingredients. Add egg, syrupand enough milk to make a batter which will pour from spoon, but must not be thin.

2. heat a heavy frying pan or hot plate and grease it with the suet. pour batter on 1 tablespoon at a time, not too close together. When bubbles appear on top of scone and just start to burst turn over with a palette knife and cook about 1 min until golden. It is a good idea to test one scone before doing a batch. If the pan is too hot it will brown too quickly before the bubbles burst. If too cool bubbles will burst but the scone will not be brown.

I put them in a pan lined with kitchen paper and a tea towel over the top as I cook them otherwise they go hard. Sometimes I pop them under the grill the next day just for a few mins if they have gone a bit wet. A little butter and jam and enjoy......mmmmm

Morning all,

Not a bad morning here and we have some blue skies with sunshine, you know that big yellow thing we get in the sky sometimes. Do any of you remember it??

Well another Donkey Day is here yet again and I shall go to Bideford later.

Hope Jane gets the leak fixed today or did he come back last night to do it?

Hope Ann is ok as I don't think we heard from her yesterday but I may be mistaken unless I go back and look but I may lose my post!.

No I was right Ann posted on the 21st. Hope FIL is ok or maybe they are just moving him back to the home?

HELLO..........................Where are you all.

I have filled up all the bird feeders, fed the chickens and banties, hoovered right through the bungalow and even sucked up all the cobwebs that I can now see in the sunlight.

Afternoon all ,

Beautiful sunny day here ,we have been shopping and put the prescriptions in to the doctors .
Hubby wanted a doctors appointment the earliest he could get in to see his doctor was the beginning of April !! they told him to ring tomorrow morning when they release the appointments for that day ,i had to make appointments for a blood test , a hypertension review and an arthritis review ,so two appointment in march and the arthritis one in April.

I heard from my sister this morning that her son Neil the one who had the stroke and when he had tests done they found he had a heart problem ,well he now has to have an op for the heart problem , where we have three little flaps that get blood to or from the heart he has only two and they are letting blood seep into the heart ,they should open and close to stop the blood flowing and his isn't doing that .
In one way it was good that he had the stroke as he would never have known about the heart problem.

Glad to hear your all sorted now David ,just need to get the license sorted and perhaps you'll be able to get a car .

Thanks Mel for the recipe ,i'll give them a try some time .

Thank you MMA the gadget for want of a more correct term was delivered and fitted by a courteous young man named Paul. He said don't regard it as a loan, just return it when you no longer have need of it. Now that's good service.
I never knew you had arthritis MMA Ellen has it in her fingers and has recently had 2
replacement knees <3

MillymollyAmanda Report 23 Feb 2016 15:58

Yes David in my thumb joints and it's now affecting my fingers .

My BIL has had both his knees replaced ,( not together ) and they both got infected so he's had both knees done again .

Frank Report 23 Feb 2016 16:59

Afternoon all,

Don't even ask how I am, it might set the computer on fire. !!

Last night when I got home a bulb in the downlighters in the porch had blown and tripped the cut out to the fuse box. So out came the steps and up I went on the worktop to reach the fuse box and trip switch. Got everything working, apart from the porch lights.

This morning after showers wtc, we went round to Carolyns to water her greenhouse, then on for the MOT. After sitting around for over an hour. The guy came in and said it had FAILED. One tyre N/S FRONT was rotting in the tread ?? and the N/S front coil spring was cracked. Wehad 10 days to get it sorted for the free retest. So off we went and got a new tyre fitted and get a quote for the spring to be replaced. £80.00. As it was now 2.30 pm we went and had something to eat. Then onto Sainsbury's for some bits.

Got home about 4.15 pm. Ros reminded me about the porch lights, again out came to steps, got the lights out our the ceiling. I knew I had some spare bulbs, so I thought I woyuld replace all three. Oh NO wrong fittings, so I searched the garage drawers and the shed. But NO WAY did I have any. Ros is now on her way to B & Q to get the right sort. I will fit them when she gets back.

SO DON'T TELL ME YOU HAVE HAD A BAD DAY "PLEASE " :-0 :-0 ;-) ;-) <3 <3

You and your leak Jane. Did he come back last night and fix it ???

Mandy, I agree, even thought the Stroke must have been terrible, at least they found the heart problem. So it can't all be bad, if you know what I mean. CATCH "22"

All comfy on the loo now then David. Don't get to COMFY and fall asleep on there will you ???

Another DONKEY DAY over then Mel. As I said the other day where do the weeks go ??

I had better get the steps out again, as Ros won't be long.

Ellen was fortunate, she had her knees done within 9 months of each other.
The only problem was pain and oedema with the first one. OK now.
Unfortunately her fingers are deformed and pain her.

So just when she needs my help I knacks my leg Fortuna

Afternoon All (at last!)

We've had trouble with the internet the last couple of days which has driven OH mad as he needed to access stuff to print for his meetings. It's turned out to be a fault on the phone line as we'd noticed a bit of crackling when people were ringing us, so it's hopefully solved now!

FIL is still in hospital but hopefully being discharged as I type. He should have been discharged on Sunday, but they rang us to say he had fallen from his chair and then later on he fell out of bed! He's made his back sore but is ok otherwise. Why hospitals and homes don't put people with dementia and prone to falling in beds with pull up sides and in chairs with a bar restraint across I don't know. The number of times FIL has fallen at the home must have cost the NHS no end in all his visits to hospital.

I hope your latest leak has been mended Jane......I've lost count of them all now! :-S The plumber was working late wasn't he! Did you enjoy the film 'Room?'

I've been at the Research Centre at the hospital I took part in the study at this morning to attend a Meeting. The lady who invited me couldn't run it herself so the student who did the study I was on before did it instead. It was very interesting and I quite enjoyed it. Lunch was a very healthy salad with quiche and with delicious fresh fruit to follow. :-)

That;s good news that you have your aids to a more comfortable experience now David! Just your licence and a car needed to make life more enjoyable now. :-D I hadn't realised Ellen had had both knees done. She's done well with her recovery hasn't she.

Oh Mandy, we have never sussed how our doctor's appointments system works!! You can't book far ahead, there are appointments released in the mornings, then more after 11.0am!! We noticed recently they have started issuing numbers to those waiting for the 11.00am ones to be released so there isn't a scrum and punch up as to who was first in the queue!! lol. It sounds like you have got yourselves all booked in anyway. That was a bit of a blessing they found the heart problem Neil had. As you say without the stroke happening he would not have known.

Annx

Annx Report 23 Feb 2016 18:06

Oh Frank!!!! What can I say!!! :-S Maybe tomorrow will be better?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 Feb 2016 18:55

Yes back quite early and all packed away, fed the chickens and banties and let the banties out in the sunshine. They made a B line for the box hedge and all went up on the bit of garden under it to have a dirt bath. I hav'nt seen them do that for ages. They hav'nt been up on that bit of garden since last summer as they tend to just stay around their house and on the back garden lawn where Prickly Hollow is.

Mandy perhaps the stroke was a god send for Neil after all and may have just saved his life. I do hope they can repair whats missing and get the other flaps working for him properly. He'll feel like a new man afterwards.

Wonder how Gill is today??

Frank no mishaps on the steps today then. Good boy but what a day you have had.

OPh has been working in his pond shed today. I don't know what he has been doing but there was a saw and sheet of ply wood left outside the garage when I went to corn the girls. He has put it away now and when I asked what he had been doing he told me to mind my own busines, bl**dy cheek. He knew what I had been doing, running around for him!!!!!

Oh dear Frank tomorrow can only get better after the day you've had ,do be careul on the steps .

Ann your poor FIL all these falls ,how lucky was he not to break some thing ,you would think they would put the rails up on the bed when they know he could try and get up.
I hope he's now settled back into the home and will get some better care than the hospital.

Now now Mel all good things come to those who wait :-D he must be making some thing for you :-D

I got all my bedding dry on the line today ,they smelt so nice and fresh when i got them all in .

Anne Report 23 Feb 2016 19:37

Good evening all

Like Ann I wasn't able to use the internet most of yesterday, Richard fixed it after he had his evening meal.

Frank sorry to hear you have had a bad day and hope all will be well tomorrow.

Ann I can't understand why your F.I.L doesn't have sides on his bed when Peter was in hospital and the home he had these on all the time plus there was some sort of alarm fitted to his bed which monitored his movements.

Jane glad your leak has now been sorted and the problem gone at last Good luck with your Xray results

Lovely day here today after taking Amy out I went into the garden to start pulling up weeds in the back garden also pruned most of the roses hoping to finish it off tomorrow, hopefully Richard will be able to mow the front lawn at the weekend.

No Gill today hope she is O.K. and not over done it again.

David hopefully your new aids will give you a better way of doing things, no sending them back this time.

Going to watch Happy Valley later, we still have Vera to watch and the Night Manager.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 Feb 2016 21:41

I wayched the first few second of The Night Manager and it was so noisy I had to turn it off. I watched Vera.

Ann I really can't understand how they hav'nt put the sides on FIL's bed. They must have notes from the home saying he tries to get out of bed and falls. As you say they should have gates on his chairs and sides on his bed. Do they have those kind of beds in the home??

Annx

Annx Report 23 Feb 2016 22:01

Not sure about the home beds Mel, but you'd think so as it is primarily a dementia home. OH is going to see them tomorrow to sort out future care and see if they have found the papers for him to sign re end of life care, DNR etc. He will be talking to them about FIL's bed too.

I think William sent the email to all of us, but thanks for mentioning it as he may have missed someone.

Off to bed now, OH will be freezing when he gets back from the match! :-S He has to be up early tomorrow to go to the docs as his blood test results will be back.

Morning all,

O such a frost this morning but most of it has gone now the suns come out and we have a beautiful blue sky without a cloud in sight.

Must strip the bed and get that in the machine so it can go on the lines.
