Afternoon All

David I saw the photo of your Dad on that link :-D

I had a call this morning from my neighbour to say that sadly dear Joan the 94yr lady who was taken ill yesterday passed away about 7oclock this morning :-(..She was such a lovely woman, but she has very few family.Just 2 Nephews and their families.
It will be strange walking past her house now and not seeing her sitting in her chair by the window and giving a wave.

Not much happening here either today. It's cold outside so I think maybe the rest of the afternoon might be spent in the warm by the fire with my kindle :-D

Oh that's sad Jane , i think you said the other day you had seen the ambulance outside , 94 is a good age and for her to still be living in her own home she did well.

Rain has stopped here at last ,no i spoke to soon it's just started again

magpie Report 5 Mar 2016 15:56

Oh that's a shame Jane, but 94 is a good age.
It's trying to hail here and was bitingly cold when I took Cas for her run in the field! That's her exercise done for today. We reckon to give her about an hour a day divided into three, that way she doesn't get bored and is content in the house!
We're having prawns in tomato and basil sauce for supper. I'm making the sauce while Ian does the rice and puts it all together. We shall at about 6. Tomorrow we're having duck, so that's the weekend meals sorted!

After I posted this morning the sun came out and has been out ever since but there is a wind that cuts right through you but I have just come in from the garden as I was picking up sticks that have fallen off the big ash tree. Jane knows the tree.

Sorry to hear about your neighbour Jane and I expect you will miss that little wave as you walk past her house. I wonder if the house will be sold now or if one of the nephews will live there. She did reach a ripe old age though and to be living on her own still was quite an achievement.

Heatings just come back on so it should warm up a bit now.

Did'nt get any ironing done yet so may go and do a bit now and get that out of the way.

Jane Report 5 Mar 2016 16:57

That sounds nice Liz.Are the big Prawns(In shell) or the smaller ones.I have to say though I wouldn't be able to eat your supper as I hate Prawns .I can maybe manage a couple of the small pink ones but even that is at a push.

Mandy it was yesterday I saw the ambulance.I am so pleased though that Joan went quickly and hasn't had to go into care. She has been so independant since her husband died way back either in the 70'or early 80's.Apparently she got out of bed this morning at the hospital and couldn't get back in.The Nurse just helped her in and she just passed away.

I think that is a good idea exercising Cas like you do Liz.Hey Mandy, just think you will be doing walkies very soon :-D :-D

I have just finished wrapping the last of Hannahs presents ready to take to Cambridge tomorrow. It is nearly all clothing so won't be heavy for to cart back to London. Her main present is money .She was going to put it towards a set of drawers for her bedroom, but says that it is going to be far more useful at the moment as spending money when she goes to Santorini in April for another friend's wedding. She can't really afford to go yet another weding abroad!!. She said IF she ever gets married she will be married in this country .

It has suddenly gone really dark here and there is a beautiful rainbow plus heavy rain.
This is the first rain of the day.I thought it was supposed to be rain for most of the day,but it has been really sunny up until now.

How are OH's legs today Mandy?Did you saythat he is not able to work? I can't remember.

Is Sandra any better Gill? I hope that sore throat of hers is easier and that she is able to eat something a bit more substantial now.

I wonder how Frank is down in Devon.I thought we might have heard from him as I think he said he was taking his laptop .

I have just had a delivery of Daffs and Irises from Hannah and James :-D.They are all still in bud so should look beautiful when they flower.I have had to find 2 vases for them.I also have a voucher from them for the Beauty Salon.I might just have a nice facial :-D :-D

They're king prawns Jane already shelled! We both love shellfish, although you do have to be careful that they're completely fresh particularly when you buy from the fishmonger. The prawns were having tonight are frozen from Waitrose, so they'll be fine.
We're lucky that we have our own field, and the use of the field behind us till the farmer puts the cattle out again. It has made exercising Cas so much easier particularly when the weather has been so wet and horrid. All we have to do is toddle through the gate at the end of our garden and wander about while she flies around chasing her dummy! Long walks would have been a bit of a chore! Fine in summer, but challenging in winter!!
Nice sunny evening here, but cold!!

Do you like willicks (sp)?

Jane

Jane Report 5 Mar 2016 17:40

Mel I am just trying to think where that tree is.Can you remind me :-)
Joans's house will be sold Mel.Her Nephews live away from here. One in Bristol and the other in Nottingham.I was talking to my neighbour about the house and she reckons it still has the original wiring ,plumbing etc from the 1930's when the house was built. The whole place hasn't been touched for years. She wouldn't be surprised if it was bought and knocked down and a new house built.Who knows .watch this space.

The rain has cleared now and it is clear skies again.Thomas has just come in looking a bit wet lol.He is drying himself off now with lots of grooming.I think he must have had a few meals of mice today as he isn't interested in his food.
We have Toulouse and plain Pork Sausages, with Chorizo Potatoes for dinner tonight.I will be having the plain sausages .Chris and James love the Toulouse ones. They are too garlicky and strong for my liking. It will be nice not to have to cook tomorrow :-D
I bet Jamies Italian will be heaving and very noisy. It is in a lovely old building in Cambridge.I think it was an old Bank.Chris is taking the opportunity to take his 'new' coffee machine back to John Lewis and get a new one. This one is less than 3months old and has started leaking from various places :-S.James also wants to buy some decent scissors to keep his 'face hair' in check.I might have a quick look to see if I can find a couple of new Nailvarnish.

Evening All,

I had a dreadful night's sleep last night, was still wide awake after 4.00am. I thought about fetching a COT and my beading to do but thought I might wake and startle OH so didn't bother in the end. After a few nice sunny spells this afternoon turned to wind with lashing rain and sleet......not nice.

I saw your pic David. :-) The Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner Tepee and Renault Kango all have sliding doors too so might be suitable for you.

Jane, what a shame about your neighbour Joan, but at least she didn't linger with an illness and 94 is a good age to be still able to have lived on her own. The house sounds like it will keep someone busy for quite a while! I bet you are looking forward to the get together in Cambridge now!

We watched the Pompeii prog and you were all right about how good it was.

Mel, Some of what looks like hair on FIL's small avatar photo is his uniform hat. I think he has always had a short back and sides from his war days! The home rang a short while ago to say he's had no food or drink today and wouldn't even take his medication and is very poorly now. OH will pop in again tomorrow.

When I got in my car this afternoon the mileage was 2222! :-) It isn't often that you actually see the numbers all the same.

That's handy being able to burn off Cas's energy like that Liz. I often see a lady with a black and white Springer in a playing field next to a library near us. She has one of those ball launcher things. The dog will fetch the ball continuously while she walks around the 2 big fields. He never bothers with the other dogs, is just focused on getting that ball back to her. He runs back to her with it and without slackening his pace places it gently at her feet and hares straight off again. It's wonderful to see his exuberance. I bet Cas is just as enthusiastic. I'm like Jane and not a big prawn fan either although I have eaten them a few times and will have scampi.

I'm sending a photo of a Buzzard I saw in the back field yesterday morning. It was only when I zoomed in on it I saw what it had had for breakfast!

Jane

Jane Report 5 Mar 2016 18:47

Oh dear Ann,FIL won't be able to go on much longer now by the sound of it.He just needs to slip away peacefully now.
You have done a fair few miles in your car !!.I love it when you see numbers like that.Like you say it is not often you see that.
I see what you mean about FIL's pic.I thought it was hair too.But now you have said I can see his hat on the jaunty angle :-D :-D.As they were always worn.
I expect your bad nights sleep is all to do with the worry about FIL .Even if you think you aren't worrying it will still be there in your mind.I hope you manage to get a better one tonight.I am sure Gordon won't mind being disturbed if you need to get up to make a drink etc. There is nothing worse than just lying there wide awake ,but desperate to sleep.

I need to chuck Thomas out .It is too early for him to be in for the night.

We have Prawns now and then but i would rather have the little Pink Shrimps ,we use to have a lot of them when we went to the coast and they were so tasty ,now it seems to be the little brown shrimps that they sell and i don't like them as much .

Jane hubby hasn't done any work since just before christmas ,he has been sorting work for son and will go with him now and again to look at work and advise him to what needs doing ,he is getting so bored though ,but the lay ins are nice ;-)
His legs have gone down a little and he has had them up on a pillow that's he has perched on one of the little side tables which takes his legs up that bit higher .

One of our neighbours must have passed away this afternoon we saw the under takers taking him away ,he has been poorly for quite a while, cancer i think.

Yes it won't be long before i'll be off on walkies :-D i think at the end of next week we will go and see how Max is coming along , i bet he's grown in this short time .

Sorry to hear you had a bad night Ann ,but you must have a lot on your mind with FIL being so poorly , i hope he doesn't linger to long poor man and just drifts off , thinking of you both <3

Enjoy your day with Hannah tomorrow Jane ,sounds as if the birthday money will help as spends when she goes to the wedding .

Have anice day tomorow Jane and happy mothers day to you all whether you have children or just hubbies as they are like our children.

My free daffs are coming out but I did think they looked a bit dried up but think they will be fine.

Whats that Gill been up to today?

Gillx Report 6 Mar 2016 11:12

Morning all

Lovely and sunny here but very cold with it.

Happy Mother's Day to everyone, hope you all have a lovely time, what ever you have planned.

Sorry to hear about your FIL Ann, it does sound like he's given up now. I think it might be the worry that's keeping you awake, try a warm milky drink before bed it might help. I'm thinking of you both <3

94 was a good age for your neighbour Jane, You're going to miss waving to her. She did well to be so independent at her age didn't she? It sounds like someone's got a job on their hands when they buy her place, or do you think the developers might buy it?
Sandra doesn't seem to be getting any better so I'm going to make an appointment at the doctors for her.

Not long now before you have Max with you Mandy, I bet you can't wait, he looks a lovely puppy, I wonder if you'll take him for a walk or the other way around. I sometimes see dogs trying to run on leads and their poor owner almost jogging along behind them, it looks like the dog is taking the owner for a walk :-) :-)
It's not to bad when you find a safe place to let them off the lead though.

It sounds like Cass is enjoying her walks in the field Liz. What a good idea to split the hour into three, it sounds like she loves her toy doesn't it?

The Black and White Springer sounds like he was having a great time fetching the ball for his owner Ann. I love those types of dogs, I think it's the big ears bobbing up and down when they run, it's so funny :-) :-)

I didn't get a chance to come online yesterday. Our buyers came in the morning to take another look, he is so excited and went around the bungalow on his own while I sat and chatted with his wife, he then came back into the living room and asked if he could take some photo's of outside to which I said yes, so off he toddled, he was like a kid in a sweet shop. His wife says he's very excitable, whereas she a bit more laid back. They said that the surveyor should be letting the Agent know when he's want to come here soon, so I'm just waiting for the Agent to let us know when that'll be. The couple want to move in on 18th May as that is when their tenancy runs out, but we haven't found somewhere definite to buy yet, so they said they would do an extra month's rent if we needed the extra time. I did say we would do our best for that date but are a bit behind them with not finding anywhere yet.

I've still not filled out the forms for the solicitor, so will have to get on with them soon. The weather was so good here yesterday I spent all afternoon outside digging up the plants we want to take with us and putting them in big pots, so that's all done now. All I have left to do outside is pot up some big pots with lots of small plants I already have in pots, I thought it would be easier to move with one or two big pots rather than lots of tiny ones. The pump broke on our pond last year so I've decided to take the pond and waterfall down, it was only a little plastic make shift one I put on the patio but without a pump it's of no use to anyone and besides the rain water has collected and will start to smell if I don't empty it soon. I'll take it all with me to the next place then buy a new bump and set it back up there.

So as you can see I was very busy yesterday, I also helped OH bring down lots of boxes from the loft when he got in from work last night, so I can make a start on the packing. I seem to be flitting from one job to another at the moment, but so long as things are getting done I don't suppose it matters what order I do them in.

Sandra's just woke up so I'll go and say good morning, she was so excited for Mother's Day she had me open my presents and cards just after midnight before we went to bed. I got a CD and some sweet pea seeds in a lovely pink container off Sandra, which I will plant up after we've moved and Michelle got me some chocolates with cocktail drinks in them, I had a couple last night, they were very nice ;-) ;-) Michelle is ringing me tonight when she gets home from work which I'm looking forward to.

I'm going to have a relaxing day today, catching up with my programmes. I keep saying I'll do that but never seem to get round to it, so I'm determined to do it today.
What is everyone else up to?

Is your oh off today or is he working?

Suns out here but there are white and grey clouds in the sky so I don't know how long the cun will last.

Hi Mel

OH is working today :-( I'm just about to have a sandwich then settle down and watch a bit of TV. I'm achy after my afternoon in the garden yesterday so no more gardening for me today plus Sandra won't let me do any packing today either as she said it's my special day....bless her <3

It's gone cloudy here now, hope we don't get anymore rain as the garden is really wet and needs to dry out for a day or two.

Yes, come on Frank........we're missing you already ;-) ;-)

Anyone eat willicks (sp) these days?
Pick little shells off the rock pools and boil them, then eat them.
They used to be popular, a poor man's whelk
As a child at the sea side I always collected some.
At Cullercoats, which is adjacent to Tynemouth there was a large aquarium
and a RNLI boat we used to climb over. Innocent happy days.

When mum was small nan cooked kippers for her and grandad on a Saturday night and the three children were given winkles and bread and butter and a pin to get them out of the shells. A man used to come around the streets with the shellfish.
