We've had a brilliant two days. My cousin went, regretfully, yesterday evening. We were so pleased to see each other and I just wish she lived closer! England would do!! Whether we shall see each other again or not who knows?! A lottery win would be useful!!!
Weather not too bad this morning so must go and hang out the washing, more sheets this week, but in a good cause!

Its still raining here but only lightly. It has made the road look wet now though.

Pleased you had a good time with your cousin Liz. How long did you say since you have seen her?

Think I may just go and get my corn today. I did think WE may be going out today but by the look of oh still in his undies I don't think thats going to happen somehow.

Ten years ago Mel, at her younger brothers funeral (he died of cancer) but we are in touch by Skype, and of course emails and photos/ videos. She's my eldest cousin, but still eight years younger than me. I was born during the war, but her father, my elder uncle, didn't marry till four years after he came back from the war, hence the age gap between us! There are two much younger cousins (same family) one eighteen years younger than me and the other twenty years younger!! A bit like the Queen, two older children, then two much younger ones!!!
Hope you get your out! Sun's still shining here!!!!

Afternoon All

Liz ,I bet there wasn't enough time to spend with your cousin. maybe a lottery ticket or two might just give you the win for a trip to see her the next time :-D :-D

Mel you say you have your old teeth in.Have you got your new ones and do they fit properly now?

We have had a few showers this morning and it looks a bit iffy still.Terribly humid though :-S

Dermot I was given Virol on a 'huge spoon daily as a child.Just the thought it turns my stomach now.My Sister loved the stuff.
My Dad always had Porridge and Bacon and Egg for breakfast before setting off for the day.I can't remember if he took sandwiches or not for his lunch.I think maybe not.But he was home by 5 and dinner was ready. So Breakfast for Dad was certainly a very important meal He passed away 29 years today :-(

well it is nearly time to go and get Thomas.I must put some water and cat milk in the cage.I expect he is going to be so pleased to be home ,but not pleased about being shoved into the cage again.

I'll take a pic of him later :-D

My mother died 30 years ago yesterday Jane. I can't believe its so long ago! My S-father followed her 8 months later. They were wonderful parents, how lucky I was to have them. You're right, we could have done with much more time to chat, but when I win that lottery.......!!
Still very humid here and I'm sitting in the garden. No rain as yet, so the washing is nice and dry. Gill I've sent you an email.

Jane Report 10 Jun 2016 15:52

We are home :-D.Have sent a pic of him .He has upturned one dish and dragged kitchen paper in through the bars which is now in his water bowl !!!.I need to get it out really but he is asleep so I'll wait a bit.He is desperate to get out .Weightbearing quite well but his leg gives way if he turns around.
Meds due at 8pm !.He apparently took his pill like a treat in the vets.I bet it won't be like that for me.

Looking good then Jane
One of the kitten from FIFI's first litter was given to a neighbour
She calls him PUSS. Unfortunately he was hit by a car and lost one
of his legs. But he made a quick recovery and is getting around on three.

Jane

Jane Report 10 Jun 2016 17:05

David it is amazing how quickly an animal can adjust to having 3 legs.I have seen many cats and dogs like that.

Mandy is your DIL's sisters dog improving after losing his leg? You said the other day he wasn't doing so well.I do hope that things are looking up for him now.He is such a young dog too.

I have been given one of those lampshade collars for Thomas ,but the nurse said that so far he hasn't bothered with his stitches. So it might mean that I just have to put it on him at night when no-one is around to keep an eye on him.

Oh Mel it sounds like the last little chick has gone doesn't it.That is very sad :-(

Liz I always think of you at this time as I remember you and I lost a parent at the same time as me (well one year apart).I was just speaking to my Sister and she was saying how it is difficult to think Dad died 29yrs ago.It really doesn't feel that long ago.

Evening all,

Thats good you have the little man home at last Jane , oh his poor little leg all stitched up but its good he's leaving his stitches alone , have you got any fish paste or some thing like that that you could use to help get his tablets into him , i bet he's hungry as i don't suppose he's had that much over the last few days ,he's use to having a full belly of rabbit.
I haven't heard any more about DIL'S sisters dog i must ask her how things are going with him.

It's been quite a nice day after a cloudy start with a little rain first thing , i went to town to get a few things from the market and go to the bank and then we went to
sons for coffee as he had a day off .

Annx Report 10 Jun 2016 18:40

Evening All,

I can remember the spoonfuls of cod liver oil too Dermot and my sister and brother's screwed up faces when they had theirs. I seem to remember the orange juice in those little brown bottles following on very quickly to get rid of the taste (it didn't! :-S) I did like cod liver oil and malt though....is that what Virol was? I remember my sister having her dummy dipped in Delrosa rose hip syrup.

I only remember having breakfast before I started school and that was just cereal. I was always nervous going to school and never wanted anything to eat when I got up. Mum always did a fry up brunch on Saturdays.

It's good Thomas is home and feeling up to wanting to be out of his crate! He's probably fancying popping out to get a bit of fresh rabbit! Good luck with giving him his medication later. :-)

The teacher at class gave us all a little pot of jam with pretty floral cloth tied round the lids today. They were left over from her daughter's wedding the other week. She made no end of things for the wedding.........jewellery for the bride and bridesmaids, vintage bouquets with old brooches, bunting, flowers, large bows for the chairs and a beautiful fascinator for herself, It was in a black mesh with black, red lined lily flowers around the crown with black feathers in the centre of them. She wore a dress with red poppies on and a black jacket to go with it. Everything at the wedding looked so beautiful she was asked by someone else at the venue if she would do a wedding for them!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 Jun 2016 18:42

Poor chap all shaved off and cross about being in the crate so making a mess. I do wish your pics came out the right way round as its hard to see him really. Hope he has a good night and you can manage to get his meds down him and his collar on.

We went to the garden centre this morning and had lunch there and yes I had my old teeth in as I did'nt want to have a painfull time having lunch. i HAD THEIR LOVELY HOME MADE QUICHE (sorry) cheese tomato and bacon with salad and croquets and oh had bacon and egg pie chips and beans. Will only have to do a sandwich tonight now.

Spent loads today. I have been after a certain plant now for years. It is called Cephalaria Gigantica. Its like a tall pale yellow scabious. I bought three plants and just hope the rabbits don't eat them. Two Heucheras in different colours as the rabbits don't seem to eat those, some more Ferrarii short bean seed as we like that one and I grow those in pots on the decking and a new grey sage plant as the one in the border is very old now and there's not much of it left but the bit that is alive has flowers at the moment so when they are finished I shall dig it out and put the new one in. Thats something else the rabbits don't eat.

Jane

Jane Report 10 Jun 2016 18:47

Mandy I bought a couple of jars of Beef and Chicken paste :-D..They remind me of when I was young and Mum used to buy them.I think they are awful. But maybe Thomas will enjoy with a tablet :-D..I think he is hungry but he will have to wait a bit as he has to eat before his tablet and liquid medication. That is at 8pm. Watch this space LOL

Anne

Anne Report 10 Jun 2016 19:27

I will be thinking of you at 8o/c Jane, I hope Thomas takes his tablets like a good boy, I expect he is wondering why he is in a cage and is getting stir crazy already.

David

David Report 10 Jun 2016 19:37

Years ago SPAM was popular as a food before it became unwanted e-mails
Can you still get it ?

Jane

Jane Report 10 Jun 2016 20:07

Anne I had to do it early..hopefully nearly an hour before I should won't matter. He was so hungry. So the tablet went down with the food( I had a good look around incase he spat it out). Then the liquid meds I squirted into the rest of the food and most of it has gone. The rest I have put in the cage and have shut him in.He has done a wee :-D in his tray which I put in the normal place. But I will put the tray in the cage overnight.

So medication has gone well :-D :-D.(phew).He is wanting to be a bit too active out of the cage ,which is good ..but not good for his op leg.He has a face on now and giving me evils :-S

Spam .Yuk !.School dinners reminds me of Spam.Sometimes it had a kind of batter around it.I think you can still get tinsof spam..Must have a look next ime I go to Tesco :-D

Annx

Annx Report 10 Jun 2016 20:30

Ah yes, spam fritters, mum used to do those when I was little. I'm sure I have seen tins of spam in the supermarket, but haven't bought it for donkeys years.

Well done Jane! He's proving to be good about his meds so that is great news for you. He's doing well at the moment isn't he.

At last we've had some rain this evening, along with the not so nice thunder and lightning!! The garden really needed it. :-) I wonder why we say thunder and lightning when it happens the other way around?

Mel I must look that plant up as I've never heard of it. It's nice to be out for lunch isn't it. Your OH won't need much else after his!!

It was the same bank that sent the hamper before. The manager rang OH just as he was typing up a complaint email this morning. He said she was very good, full of apology (unlike the lady OH spoke to before) and explained the process of what had happened. The upshot is the money will go into OH's account tomorrow and some flowers will be sent in apology!

Off to bed now. We are going to that Lodge exhibition tomorrow, it's on for 3 days starting today. I don't mind if it's raining, sooner that than boiling heat.

magpie

magpie Report 10 Jun 2016 21:18

I always quite liked spam! You could buy it loose at the Home and Colonial (long gone!) I think it was very cheap and we sometimes had it at home for lunch on Saturdays (why Saturdays?!) I think we had it school too, probably for supper, but it's so long ago I can't really remember!!
I think we shall be going to bed fairly soon as were both tired. It's dull and wet here and nothing on TV!
Your in-laws estate has been wound up very quickly Ann. With my parents, MiL and my uncle it took just on a year before everything was finalised! We got payments in dribs and drabs, but completing everything took for ever!
OH has taken Cas for her evening walk, so hopefully she's going to be tired!!

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 Jun 2016 22:30

What a good boy takeing his meds so easily like that Jane. I bet you were relieved you did'nt have to muck about trying to get htem sown him.

Oh gets me to buy a tin of spam when he goes fishing. Loads of the men have it at the side of the fishing gear when we walk along the canal at Bude. My dad liked fried spam but I hated it as a child and still would'nt eat it.I did'nt like rose hip syrup, yuk, bitter. I had Radio Malt not Virol. It had a yellow sun on a blue background on the label.

Meant to say I also bought a cuemelon vine type plant which has small melon like fruits the size to fit on a teaspoon which are suppose to taste of cuecumber with a bit of lime thrown in. We shall see............... if the slugs don't eat them as they look very soft, the plants not the fruit as they hav'nt got any yet.

David

David Report 11 Jun 2016 08:27

I haven't had it for donkey's years. Didn't it have a spicy taste ?
Was it similar to luncheon meat ?Do the fishermen like Spam or is it bait for the fish ?
