Afternoon all

It's been raining here this morning but seems to have brightened up for now. I can't believe we're in July already, where has the year gone?

I've been feeling a bit down these past two days, what with the weather and the framework for the screening taking so long, I've had enough. OH is off work tomorrow so hopefully the framework will get finished, but at the moment we're near the bottom so trying to get around all the tree trunks is a nightmare. I've had a thought of bringing the framework out a bit to see if that helps. I guess I'll find out tomorrow. I did all the weeding in the front garden yesterday. With being so busy in the back garden the front garden had been taken over by weeds, it looks much better now and I managed to get it all done before the rain came, which was lucky.

Sorry to hear you're feeling down Frank, hope you feel better soon, you'll be missed on here, so hope you're not away from us to long <3 Take care we're all thinking of you.

It sounds like you've had a week of it to Liz, hope things improve for you to <3

Pleased to hear your tests went well Ann, I bet it's great being able to get out and about on your own again? :-) and what a relief it must be too, knowing it's a migraine and nothing else.

It sounds like you all had a lovely meal and a great time together Mandy. It's nice to have a good catch up isn't it?

Has the plumber turned up yet Jane? Fancy him not getting back to you, hope he turns up soon. I like the look of the film you went to see but will wait until it comes out on DVD as I know Sandra would like to watch it more than once, she likes films like that.

OH hasn't had the warning yet, so now he thinks the girl who mentioned it to Sandra is lying, apparently she's a bit of a story teller. His boss is back in work today so if anything is going to be said it'll probably be today. I'm sure he'll tell me later when he gets in from work.
It's almost OH's 50th birthday (17th July) and I haven't got a clue what to get him. I've asked him what he wants but so far he hasn't said. I'm going to have to put my thinking cap on as I'm running out of time. It's my nieces 30th today, Michelle's boyfriends birthday tomorrow and my mum's birthday on the 9th, so quite a busy month, birthday wise.

Happy belated birthday to Richard Anne, hope he had a great time in London and the weather was nice for him.

Well, I'd better go, the sun has come out so I might see if I can make a start on altering some of the framework so it won't take to long to finish with OH tomorrow.

Hi Anne, didn't see you there, pleased to hear Richard had a lovely time in London. I'm sure he'll tell you all the details later. It sounds very interesting.
Happy birthday to Amy. I'm smiling at the comment you made about the Queens Corgis, you are funny :-D :-D

I love the wild flowers in the hedgerows. One I really like is a pale yellow tiny antirrhinum. It is so lovely. I like to see the violets and primroses and then the hedge garlic and wild garlic and then the campion and raggid Robin and the froths of cow parsley and meadowsweet. All these and more in our hedgerows.

In the garden we have a kind of edelweiss, a wild mint and a rose of sharon that is really tiny but since oh sprayed weed killer I hav'nt seen them this year.

Nice to hear from you Liz and I am so sorry about your SIL losing her old friend of many years. <3

Love to Frank if your looking in to our posts. Hurry back we need to hear from you. <3

Alright, I give in !! Good Afternoon all.

Won't stop long, but pleased that you are all well, and not too fed up by this weather.

Liz, It's a pity about the dog passing away. Provided she was in no discomfort. muat be a bonus.

Mandy after a meal like that you won't need to eat for a week. <3 <3 <3 Glad you enjoyed it.

Ros was a the choir practise last night, ready for the concert tonight at another local church. She had to park in a field, close to the church, where the grass was about two foot long. She got her trousers soaked going in and coming back to the car. She said she has never seen a grave yard that needed so much attention with weeds and grass all around the grave stones. ROS, has KITTED out Valerie next door with a nice black blouse and cardigan, even made her a pair of black ear rings. She has been dressing in jumpers and trousers, with trainers on. So hopefully she will look better tonight.

I managed to get my back lawn almost mowed yesterday afternoon, then down came the rain, when I had only two more strips to do. But as Electric and Water don't mix, I left it and put the mower away.

My niece Susan rang last night. She was most shocked when I told her what had been said. She mentioned that Ted's twin wouldn't be at the funeral as she was going on holiday to Cornwall, so no close members of the family will attend. I don't think any nieces and nephews will be there either. So only "HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY" He is due to be buried on the 11th July.

Had a nice Skate wing last night and Ros a big Place, both from Morrison's fish counter.

John, my nephew told me to try Steak from Liddl or Aldi. Anyway was got some yesterday He said it's the best he has had. So on his head be it. !!!

Still not sleeping well, was up again last night at midnight until after 3.30 am. Feeling tired in the day, but won't cat nap, just sit and watch T.V. :-\ :-\ :-\

Horrible day here, very windy and looking like rain.

THANKS for all your LOVE and KIND THOUGHTS xxxx

Forgot to mention. Ros bought an OCTOPUS which I had to prepare and skin before attempting to cook. Quite an experience for someone who has never attempted anything like it before. I cut it up and put it in seasoned flour. Cooked it in deep oil. When I thought it was done, I tried a bit. IT WAS INEDIBLE Just like trying to eat a rubber ball. Lesson learnt. !! If you want Octopus buy it ready prepared, and just heat up.

Ros has gone to M & S for a new bra, then going on to the nail bar to have her nails done for tonight. I won't be going, so will stay and watch Football all on my lonesome AH. !!

Sun has come out here. ;-) ;-)

Pleased to see you back Frank.

I have looked at the steaks in Aldi so it would be interesting to know how they taste,
Never had octopus but wouldn't be tempted, my Greek friend used to cook it and squid.

Watched the programme about the commemoration of the battle of the Somme this morning. It was very very moving and thought provoking. Son very keen to watch it on catch up tonight. Blustery old day, but at least it's dry

Jane Report 1 Jul 2016 17:07

Yuk Octopus.I have never fancied that. All those squiggly tentacles :-S

Good to have you back now Frank <3.I hope you are feeling less angry and stressed now.We all love you :-D :-D

Liz what a terrible week you had.I am sorry.I quite understand how you didn't fancy coming on the thread .

I have had the 28day Rib Eye Steaks from Aldi several times and they have been very good each time.I tried a joint of Topside from there the other day.It wasn't bad but not as good as the usual we have from Waitrose.I have heard that Lidl Steaks are very good too.

I have a bit of a headache, but I think it is getting used to my new glasses. The frames of both new pairs are slightly larger than my old ones and are varifocals. It is reading and typing I am finding a bit weird.Didstance is fine. The man said to try for a week and if things still look a bit fuzzy to go back. It's making me feel a bit dizzy too when walking :-S

Ann the verges here are just the same as your way.Just maybe a foot trimmed back from the edge of the roads. As you say it is lovely to see all the wild flowers. The only problem is sometimes on the country roads it is difficult to see around the bends. This is where the verges could do with further cutting back. Also pulling out onto a road is a bit tricky sometimes as you can't quite see over the tall grass.
The plans for the houses over the back and the demolishion of the bungalow next door has now been put on hold until August 31st.So we now have to wait until then to see they have been approved.I was chatting to the partner of my next door neighbour and he said that they would be quite happy to stay there and that he doesn't want the plans approved. So it is another couple of months.

Ah Happy Birthday to dear Amy, Anne. She is a grand old lady :-D.I would guess that 12 is actually a very good age for a Boxer.
Glad Richard enjoyed his birthday in London with Mark.I didn't know you could go up to the top of the O2.Not sure about wearing helmets .It must have been a bit precarious lol.But what a brilliant view from up there.
I remember years ago I had a boyfriend who was in the Marines and he was taking part in the Royal Tournament .(I can't think of the name of the place it is held :-S )
He was one of the people who came down on those ropes from the roof.He took me up there and I had a look down through the hatches.Wow what a drop that was !!!Rather him than me lol

Gill I hope all went well for OH today at work.I still can see no reason why he might have got a warning .Maybe as you said the girl who said that was maybe just stirring or making it up.

I was going to say what my Sister had to say on the phone this afternoon but I think my post is long enough already so I will it until my next post.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Jul 2016 18:27

Jane did you give your old glasses in? It is always good to keep them for a bit just in case. When I first had varifocals when I looked down at the ground it looked like I WAS WALKING INTO a depresion in the ground. They did make me a dizzy at first and I was told not to drive in them at first too.

How's the rascal today? No I don't mean Frank. :-)

Is Cas all healed up now Liz? You did say there was still a bit to heal last time you posted about her I think. <3

Well I have had my washing on the line and it rained so it came in and I hung it on the clothes horse indoors then the sun came out so I put the horse outside for a while as theres a nice breeze. Then it rained again.

Oh has been mowing on and off between showers and I think he is just about to come in now.

Boiled bacon loin tonight. I have made the cheese and onion sauce and we will have new pots with it and peas as I want to save the brocc for tomorrows steak.

Jane Report 1 Jul 2016 18:32

Liz ,it is so moving watching all the memorial programmes .Seeing those black and white film clips ,make me weep everytime I see them . All such a terrible waste of lives.

Well I was going ot to say what my Sister was telling me. They had just about cleared out the bungalow of my BIL's Mum .Had to break up some old wardrobes etc t otake to the tip ,Cooker and old washing machine put out ready for the council to collect .Filled the big van they have hired with other furniture and household things to take back to Tewkesbury and put in their garage so they can sort and clear as and when they can.
The Manager of the home informed them this morning (after ALL THIS had been done) that Larry's Mum will only be allowed to stay in the home if she has 5 years of money to pay for her care !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. She has about 3 years money. If she has less than the 5 yrs finance then she would have to go back to the bungalow !!!!!!!!!!!!. But there is nothing left there now. Why on earth was Larry not told this before they started to empty the place????.They will be told next week what the decision is.What a worry for them, and what terrible upheaval (if it happens) for Larry's Mum to be chucked out of where she is just settling in .She is 92/3 for gods sake. All she will have is the furniture she has in the room at the home. Fingers crossed they have a heart and let her stay where she is.

Gill ,no news from the Plumber :-S :-S :-S :-S
The heavens have just opened here and it is tipping down and as black as your hat !!
Chris is stuck in the summer house and will have to wait before he makes a dash indoors lol

Mel I was told to hang on to my old specs for now.
The little terror is fast asleep for now.But has enjoyed a bit of sunshine and a bit of a stroll today. I was in bed this morning when Chris had got up and come downstairs .I was watching a programme on my laptop .I heard a very loud Miaow and turned over to see Thomas with his 2 front paws on the side of the bed and him looking at me.Chris had left the lounge door open again :-S

Cas is fine Mel, her wound has been healed now for about three weeks or more, but thank you for asking.
We're just off to the village for a memorial service which OH has been helping to organise,, so it'll be nice to see the results of everyone's contributions.
Better put Cas out!

Frank Report 1 Jul 2016 19:56

Anne, The steaks were very good. Ros commented that it was t he best she has had for ages (MY wonderful cooking) of course. So go and try some, we had the Rib eye 21 day matured. We have some others in the freezer. Not sure if the are RUMP or SIRLOIN.

So Thomas is getting up the stairs, and looking for a fuss on the bed. Aren't we all ;-) ;-) ;-)

I took a photo of the rain cloud earlier. I should take another now. BLUE SKY'S !!!

Liz, I assume the service is for the Somme lost. Ros's uncle was one of those lost in that battle.

Match is about to start. So I am off.

Annx Report 1 Jul 2016 20:13

I never chuck my old specs out when I get new ones in case I break a lens in the new ones and they have to go away to be mended. At least you can manage with the old ones for a week or two. I suppose I could wear my prescription sunglasses, but they wouldn't be very good indoors. I thought you already wore varifocals Jane. They are weird though till you get used to them. I remember going down steps was tricky at first and you have to move your head to just the right position to get the right focus.

Larry and Janice must have worked hard to get his mum's place cleared as quickly as they have Jane, but what a shock to hear what the home has said about her staying there. Social Services usually help with costs, at least when funds are getting low. Larry should speak to them if he hasn't to see how things stand. It isn't right to shift such elderly folk about.

Yes, that's true about not seeing very well at junctions, although they have cut more back just on the corners of a dangerous main road junction near where our farm shop is. Mel you have far more pretty wild flowers than us! We do get the pink campion, meadowsweet, primroses in places, some blue geraniums, coltsfoot and 'old man's beard'. None of the lovely garlic though. We also get stray oilseed rape growing in the verges in places and today I noticed the Ragwort is starting to flower and that is everywhere round here now.

I had a chuckle about the telegram from the corgis Anne! Amy is quite an old girl now isn't she. I was surprised on that programme about the dogs that the Springer was still doing search and rescue till he was aged 11 and had only just retired. I think Richard and his friend were braver than me going up to that height. I went 17 floors up to a flat in the city here once to visit a work colleague. When I looked down the people were like ants!! :-0

Well I saw the aftermath of a nasty smash where a slip road joins the M1 today. The front of the car driving onto the motorway had most of the front ripped off, lights, grill and bumper were scattered about 50 feet away and the side of the car was all bashed in. The police were there and had cordonned it off. I'm not surprised really as the motorway was so busy and it's hard to find a space between the traffic to drive onto the motorway when it's like that. The cars can't move over when all the lanes are busy either.

At the retail park I popped into the ladies first and just as I was going in a young woman the other side with a child on her hip rammed the door open into me nearly knocking me flying. 'Oh' she said looking at me as if I shouldn't have been there and then barged by without even an apology. Then worse, an older woman who appeared to be with her barged by too bashing my thumb at the end with the big bag on her shoulder, splitting my nail across. How can people be so rude and ill mannered. :-S

Gill, that sounds quite a task sorting the frames for your fence and I'm not surprised you are a bit fed up. Once it's done though you will be able to make more progress. Hopefully your OH won't be getting any warning now then and should be happier when he gets home tonight.

My eye has been runny today and I thought I had something in it for ages, but I think it must have been hayfever. Of course once your eye runs your nose starts too. I also got caught in my short sleeve top and sandals in a hailstorm, just before I got back to my car to go home!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Jul 2016 23:37

A hailstorm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we've had showers on and off all day then lovely blue sky again with big white clouds. Oh did manage to mow the grass though.

I got the washing dried in the end and ironed it so thats out of the way.

I too laughed at Amy getting a telegram from the corgi's.

Gill what are you putting up on this framework?

Just popping in the shower now so see you all in the morning.

Gillx

Gillx Report 2 Jul 2016 01:52

I'm still up altering some trousers, I want to get them all cut pinned and ready for sewing before I go to bed, I shouldn't be to much longer.

OH never got a warning in the end, he spoke with the boss today about not doing anymore handyman work for the time being with him having so much stuff to do at home, he said it's to much doing both and his boss was okay with it and even said thank you for all the help he has given. She didn't mention a warning, so now OH is convince that this girl is trying to stir up trouble. Today she sprayed another married man with her perfume, god now's why she is playing games with all the married men who I might add are old enough to be her dad. We are now concerned that she is Sandra's friend and will be keeping an eye on her. OH thinks she's needs some medical help, although I think he may of said that because he is quite annoyed with the situation and the upset it has caused us over this past week.

OH cut a bit more of the tree trunk when he got home from work and is hopeful he can finish it tomorrow. He likes my idea of moving the bottom part of the framework forward a bit so it goes around the smaller tree trunks and with a bit of luck it'll work and be finally finished tomorrow, if the weather is kind to us that is.

We're not sure what screening to put on the framework yet Mel, but we're thinking of maybe some bamboo. We'll have to take a look at what's out there once the framework is finished and we've measured up how much we'll need. I'm guessing it's around 65 foot long and about 7 foot high, so it depends on the price of the screening as well with having to do such a large area.

I'll catch up with all the posts tomorrow if I'm not in the garden all day.

Well, I'd better get on with the last bit of these trousers, they're for my mum's friend and she wants to give them to him in a couple of days so I'd better get them finished, It should only take me about 10 minutes to finish pinning them, so not long, then if I get time tomorrow I can sew them.
Sweet Dreams everyone, see you tomorrow if I can
Night Night <3

Morning all,

Suns out and the sky is blue grey and white so I expect it to be just like yesterday with sunshine and showers.

Will probably potter in the garden today after going up for the paper as usual on a Saturday.

Two days into July and not many more days to Christmas!!! What?

magpie

magpie Report 2 Jul 2016 10:35

Yes Frank, it was a memorial for the battle of the Somme, and the young men from this village who lost their lives in the Great War. We're particularly interested as my grandfather fought in the trenches from 1915 aged 22, and miraculously survived! and OH's grandfather who was killed at the beginning of Nov 1918, having joined in 1914! He got the MC for bravery, so we remember him with special pride.
Windy here and quite cold. OH is sawing logs and I'm about to hang washing! Better get on.
