Afternoon all,
Lovely day here really hot and so am i now as i have just done all my ironing ,even the things i washed this morning so it's an empty laundry basket for a few hours until we fill it tonight with the clothes we are wearing.
SIL loved the flowers ,it was her 70th birthday ,we had a nice buffet meal, cold turkey and beef and beautiful smoked salmon with new pots and lots of different salad dishes, puds were Lemmon posit (not sure if thats the right spelling ) chocolate torte and nice little fresh fruit trifles which is what i had ,oh and then birthday cake .
Hope your getting there Frank and the pain is easing a little now ,it must be better using a frame to walk with not so much weight going on the knee .
So Thomas has his freedom back , i shouldn't think he will go far Jane as there must be mice and bunnies in the garden that need catching with him being out of action for a while so that will keep him busy .
I have a very sore big toe ,i dropped a can of deodorant onto it this morning and it cut into my toe , oh the pain when it hit my toe ,i have to say i said a bad word !! My toe was already sore because one of the girls dropped a big book and the corner of the book hit my big toe.

Afternoon All,
Thanks for that useful info about the deliveries Anne. I was thinking that it would still be good for an occasional shop of the heavy stuff and cleaning things anyway. It would save a lot of time.
I can just imagine Cas flying around the field with her ears bobbing up and down Liz. All the oilseed Rape around here has been cut now as well and boy does it kick up some dust when they do it!! The stalks are very scratchy and unforgiving too.
Thomas looks really happy sitting in the hedge Jane. He didn't take long to find a mouse for lunch did he! I hope your throat is a bit better today.
I forgot to say when I went to M&S the other day, there was a lady, younger than me, with a chap and she was buying tops. The man kept saying everything she was picking up was no good and told her she wanted things that were more brightly coloured. I was beginning to think he was a bit overbearing and controlling. Anyway I heard her say she really liked something she had found and was shocked to hear him say to put it back to find something HE liked. Then a minute or two later I couldn't believe my ears when I heard him say that if she could find something that he liked he would ALLOW her to have the top she really liked as well!!!! :-S I thought, do we really progress when there are still such domineering, controlling men and why do these women allow it!!! But maybe they dictate what their men wear in a similar fashion? We seek each other's opinion quite often, but this was like a parent talking to a child.
OH is has gone to a match at Melton Mowbray today. He went to a match last night to give some of his old programmes to a pal who runs a club shop and resells them. He bought a raffle ticket while he was there and won a box of Thornton's chocolates and a bottle of white wine. I've just finished the last of the chocolates!
I'm not surprised your box of flowers went down well Mandy. The meal sounded lovely. I like it when you can pick at bits and bobs to fill your plate. Your poor old toe is going through it!! It's horrid when the same place gets hurt again as well. Like when you bite your lip and then it happens again soon after!
Our neighbours got back from their break yesterday and told OH, when he gave them something the postman had left, that they weren't selling for the time being and would see how things went.

O dear Mandy that does sound sore!!Bet the air was blue for a minuet.
Got the hoover out this morning and thought I would give it a hair cut to see if thats why it stopped the other day. As I was going to tip it up I heard all this grit moving from somewhere within. When I stood it up it had pooed gravel onto the carpet so I did it again. More came out so after sweeping that into the dustpan I plugged it in and hey presto it worked. So my new cheap hoover dos'nt like the grit that always comes in on our feet from the tarmac road outside the bungalow. I shall have to go round with the dustpan and brush first for the grit before hoovering. I then did the hall and emptied the bin and did the bedroom to which it sounded very slow........ Emptied the bin again as a lot comes of the bedroom carpet it being a longer pile. The filter was all bunged up so apart it all came again. I was outside brushing and tapping the filter which was caked in dust when oh told me to bring it to the gararge and he put the compressor on and blasted it with air and cleaned it up a treat. So that went back in all clean and all I now need to do is give it a hair cut but back was playing up a bit so thought I would leave that till another day.
Suns gone here and we now just have grey sky.
Jane I thought you were supposed to keep Thomas on his lead for a couple more weeks yet? I suppose he will move around more being off the lead though so that could be good for his leg. I see he has already brought you his dinner or was that starters?

Good Afternoon , from a very warm Berkshire.
Mandy your SIL birthday meal sounds really appetising, pleased to hear she liked her flowers. Sorry to hear about your sore toe I can understand the air being blue when you dropped the can on it.
Jane The pic of Thomas with his beady eyes peeping out waiting for his next catch really made me smile, he makes a good stalker :-D :-
No Frank yet I hope he isn't feeling the heat too much and is doing his exercises like a good boy
Richard and David have gone to the cinema they are seeing two films with 30 mins gap in between when they will get a pizza to keep them going, so home alone until about 6o/c apart from Amy and the Cats. Lovely and peaceful
Liz, looking forward to seeing a photo of Cas in full flight. We have one of those ball launchers for Amy, the downside was she would chase after the ball then find an interesting sniff and completely forget about it so we would then have to retrieve it ourselves, now she is an old lady[like her Mum] we don't use it anymore .
I can't believe anyone putting up with that domineering behaviour, I wonder if he monitors everything she buys. Perhaps he doesn't want her wearing anything that makes her look attractive to other men.
We will be having salad and cold meat for tea tonight as its too hot to cook.

Apple's doing well and plums, ready to freeze along with raspberries and blackberries! Just taken Cas up in our field along with her friend Louis, (a spaniel who lives down the road from us) more haring around, and two crashed out dogs!! Nice pic of Thomas Jane! He's not lost his hunting skills!!

We're having smoked trout and salad + new spuds too Anne, as you say, too hot to cook!! Tomorrow we've got roast beef!! We're not going to have a bonfire till after the harvest. There are two fields down the road, one of barley and one of wheat. The thought of catching either on fire doesn't bear thinking about, so we shall leave it for a week or two!

That lady is probably not allowed out on her own Ann :-S :-S.Sounds like he is a control freak. That would not happen in this house I can tell you :-D :-D.. Well I wouldn't be with anyone like that .I do my clothes shopping ,Chris does his and yes we might say if we aren't struck on something that the other one has bought but that is as far as that will go.I might pull a face though if Chris puts on something that I think maybe doesn't suit him. he will say it looks fine but then may disappear and come back down with something different on LOLOL. The only thing he hates me in is bright orange or red.
Well number 3 mouse has been eaten :-S :-S.. That is 3 I have seen !!!!. He hasn't given up yet. Mel I just couldn't keep him in any longer. It has been since the beginning of June and I felt his is ready and his leg is much stronger now.You should see him in one of his crazy fits tearing up and down the stairs !!..The only thing he might not be able to do is jump high(like on to the top of a fence).I just don't want him going too far at the moment.
What films have Richard and David gone to see Anne? I still think that the Secret Life of Pets has to be one of my favourite films this year :-D :-D.I would be happy to see that again. I love the adverts with them in :-D
Liz I lost so many balls with the launcher when I had Chester.Like Anne's dog hewould chase and the nbe distracted by something else. But I guess Cass just has that 'find' instinct . I have finally had some pics of little Jilly.Janice thought she had sent them the other day. What a little tiny cutie she is. Janice has her sleeping in their bedroom with the other 2 dogs.(not sure I would fancy so many dogs in my bedroom) .But Jilly sleeps from about 10pm until 6am.So that is good.Getting on fine with dear old Riley who is a doddery old boy now.Oscar just ignores Jilly. I will send on a couple of pics.
Mandy I thought it was friends the flowers were for Sorry I didn't realise it was for your SIL.The flowers did look so good and so pretty. So your toe has had 2 bashes!!!..... lets hope there isn't a 3rd incident :-S.I bet it is really really sore.Makes it worse when you walk ?
I was going to do some fancy dish to go with the Cooked Chicken. But like you Anne it is too hot to bother. So it is going to be oven chips with the chicken and Roasted Asparagus and Vine Tomatoes with our own garden peas. I had intended doing something called Courgette ,Watercress and Hallumi Pilaf with a Yoghurt,Mint and Garlic dip thing. That is for another day now :-D
Liz you have done so well with all your veg. Some of ours have not been so good. We haven't had one carrot !! and the Garlic that Chris has pulled are small. The others he has put on the compost :-(..Peas have been brilliant as have the dwarf beans.Little French Beans are looking ok and the Runners I am JUST WAITING FOR :-D We have Leeks,Onions Red Cabbage still to go so hopefully they will be fine.
I think it must be time to go and have a look for 'Hunter' again.

To be honest Jane, I'm not at all keen on dogs in the bedroom per say! The only one we have ever allowed to sleep in with us was Millie, and that was only because she suffered so much from anxiety syndrome, that she howled if one/ both of us weren't in her sights! When we first had her we once went out (shopping) and left her, and when we came home she was completely hysterical! I had to sit with her on my lap to calm her down, while she shook and whimpered for what seemed like for ever!! After that wherever we went we always took her! We had to have special shades for the car windows in hot weather always park under trees etc! Curiously she did settle when she stayed in the car, after an initial howl!!! It was something of a nightmare all her life, and that's why she had to go to kennels if we went abroad or really couldn't take her!! I simply couldn't expect anyone else to look after her! It was lucky we both loved her so much!!! She was such an old sweetie, and I still at times, miss her. Cas, like all our others is quite different (normal!!) and sleeps in her cage in the utility room without any problems, in fact she hardly ever comes down to our bedroom. We can leave her on her own or with someone without a worry, which is a relief!!

Thomas is under House Arrest for now then Jane, he certainly is a good mouser, bless him. It's a good idea keeping him in but will you be getting an early morning call, I wonder.
Richard & David went to the Odeon cinema and saw the new Star Trek & Jason Bourne, not my sort of films, I'm going to buy the DVD of the Secret Life of Pets not sure if its out yet.
Amy sleeps in my bedroom she has her own bed and has never attempted to get on mine. When we had two boxers they were always happy to be together downstairs in the kitchen at night.
Still no Frank or Gill hope they are both alright,

No Millie was never allowed on the bed, she always slept in her bed down by the side of me! I think Thomas is wormed on a regular basis David. I know ours were as they were hunting cats and its something that is a necessity. Talking of which, we must do Cas, fleas as well! It soon comes round! Nothing on TV tonight unless you're into the Olympics?!!

Worming spot on thing due next week David :-D.Flea treatment 2 weeks ago. Glad you have reminded about worming though .We also have to have the Booster injection in the next couple of weeks .
Anne I don't think I would enjoy the Star Trek film. What is the Jason Bourne?? Thomas gets shut in the lounge at night these days Anne.So as long as he doesn't start scratching at the door I should have a peaceful night :-D.Not sure where he is at the moment.Probably on the landing or half way up the stairs.
Just watching Mens Gymnastics.I find it mesmerising

Jane, Jason Bourne is the 5th film in The Bourne series, I had to look it up then it made sense. We are watching Dad's Army and after that the Mystery of Van Gogh's Ear. Not into the Olympics at all unfortunately.
Looking forward to seeing photo's of Janice's new puppy

Not for us Jane! Luckily we both find sport incredibly boring! OH does enjoy motor racing and cricket, but for me, these days I just find it tedious. I think part of it's all the jamboree and hype, but particularly the money that it costs that doesn't sit well with me, especially in a country with so much poverty. Giving people decent homes and running water would seem a greater prioriy. I went to Rio some years ago, and the way poor people live is quite awful., which I guess makes me prejudiced.
