Frank Report 14 Aug 2016 16:49

GOO NEWS. This afternoon I got out of the chair and walked to the toilet UN-AIDED. I just carried one walking stick in case I needed it. I have been to the kitchen to turn out the gas under the parsnips, and walked the length of the bungalow to get to the computer.

Ros is just finishing off the baskets. She was surprised to see me on my feet and walking. I won't over do it , as I can feel the pulling down my leg. But it shows things are going in the right direction.
;-) ;-) ;-)
nails digging in her back, it was a blackbird !!! (See what happens to my typing ??) Ros was bent over the patio table doing the baskets, when she felt

Back to my chair, it's quite muggy here this afternoon, but dry, so not bad all round.

Afternoon All

It sounds like you have turned the corner Frank.Walking a bit without a stick :-D.You will be running before you know it :-D

Yes I counted 34 children getting out of the 'school bus' !!!!!.They must have been almost lying on top of eachother !! Unbelievable.

I am a bit worried about my Sister. She has been in pain for a week around her side/front and around her back. She went to the Dr (I think yesterday) and he has referred her for an Urgent Scan. This should be tomorrow ,but I can't get hold of her today. I just hope she hasn't got worse and has had to go to A&E.I will keep trying

Mel have you had a look in your car yet to see how much the little bird has left for you???

Anne where are you going on holiday?.Not sure if you have said. You probably have but my brain is like a sieve
:-S

I think the sun is finally coming out.About time.It has been cloudy all day.
Next door sounds like things are livening up.It is one of the Sons with friends and the music is on .I bet it will be a pool party.Once a few drinks go down it will probably get a bit raucous .The girls always seem to shriek !.It's nice to hear them having fun though.
I am guessing that Gina and her Partner are not there.(very sensible :-D )

Thomas is curled up in the pot with the Olive Tree in.I think the bark on the top of the pot must hold the warmth. He looks very cosy.He has eaten nothing cat food wise today so must have been stuffing his face on the wildlife. There are a few 'bits' of innards af mice lying around the patio GROSS .Guess who's job that will be to clear??

Just had a reply from Janice saying she is the same as yesterday .

Half past 5 and I can't muster up any enthusiasm to start cooking yet.

Les..That was good memories from you this morning :-D..As Frank says you are probably around his age .A little before my time :-D :-D
It is good when we get new posts from new people with new memories.

Going to ring my Sister now

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 14 Aug 2016 17:48

Anybody had to sing this at school. I have had it on the brain today. :-S

O'er the ocean flies a merry fay,
Soft her wings are as a cloud of day,
As she passes all the blue waves say:
"Marianina, do not roam,
Whither, whither is your home,
Come and turn us into foam,
Marianina, Marianina,
Come, O come and turn us into foam!"

O'er the fields she passes to and fro,
By the cornstalks standing row by row,
Poppies whisper as they see her go,
"Marianina, little friend,
Whither would your footsteps wend,
Come and teach us how to bend,
Marianina, Marianina,
Come, O come and teach us how to bend."

O'er the mountains when the day is done,
When the clouds are gath'ring o'er the sun,
While they, weeping, whisper one by one-
"Marianina, come again,
We have tried to dance in vain,
Come and turn us into rain,
Marianina, Marianina,
Come, O come and turn us into rain."

Have I missed something about these thirty four children packed in a car?

Anne

Anne Report 14 Aug 2016 18:00

Well done Frank it's good to hear you are on the mend at last, hopefully you will have a better nights sleep tonight.

Jane sorry to hear about your sister being in pain but at least she has a good doctor
hopefully it's nothing too serious.

This was the first time I have mentioned going away, we are renting a cottage in Fordwich which is the smallest town in England just 3 miles from Canterbury and not far from Whitstable, it's called Tancrey Cottage. Richard, Paul the two girls myself and Amy, we are only going for a week. David will be at home for the cats and will also feed the fish. Not too keen on travelling on a Friday especially on the M20 :-( :-( We are going to the Littlestone lifeboat's open day on Sunday where my nephew Matt and Heather, his wife are volunteers, so we will be meeting up with some of the Crittenden family who live that way. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us

I have never come across that song Mel. I also was curious about 34 children in a car and thought maybe it was to do with the Guinness book of records.

Annx Report 14 Aug 2016 19:40

Evening All,

That will be a nice break for you Anne and a change of scene. It's good David will be around to feed the cats.

Lesley that was very interesting and reminded me of the grey pony and milk float that I used to see as a teenager. The man used to shout at it, which I didn't like, but I was always amazed how it knew just how far to walk before stopping and waiting without being told! Fancy you meeting Mantovani!

I hope your sister is ok Jane. She must be worried as well as in pain poor thing. I hope she hears quickly about the scan.

That's good news that you feel you have turned the corner Frank and that your knee feels a bit better without the staples. Hopefully you will soon be sleeping better.

I'm glad you gave us an update on Nico Mandy and I hope he turned up for some chicken! It is a shame he hasn't somewhere better to sleep. Our garden sheds would seem wonderful after what he has been managing with.

Mel, there was some sort of party at one of the big houses on the main road on Friday night. It kept me awake for ages and then I just couldn't get off to sleep! There was no music, just the sound of youths shouting at the tops of their voices to each other!

We went to 2 more open gardens this afternoon in Rutland. One was at a farm on a hillside with lovely views and the other was at an ancient house with a walled garden. We went through some lovely old villages, just off the main roads we usually travel, to get there. The deal was cake and a cot for a set price so we HAD to have the cake this time!! :-)

Did anyone else see how long the Greenland sharks live. I was flabbergasted........270 years on average and up to 400 years!!

I found a prog on Sky this morning about Calke Abbey. We went around the gardens a couple of years ago, but having watched the prog, we want to go around the house and stables as it looked fascinating. We may go tomorrow as OH has the bit between his teeth! lol.

We agree with you about the 3 on the Steam Railway prog and other progs Mel. They are so good and interesting!!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo now I see about the 34 children.

Jane I hope it is nothing really serious with poor Janice. You will let us knw as soon as you know won't you?

I wonder why Nicko did'nt come for his dinner??? Will you save it for him? I hope he is ok.

I am really fed up with the telly tonight and all this week. These olypics seem to be going on forever and when I want weeks to go by quickly they drag their heels. Thank goodness for the Firestick is all I can say.

Nice and sunny here too but we have a bit of a easterly breeze. We don,t get that often as its ususally westerly.

Hav'nt fed my wild birds yet so you are ahead of me Jane.

Frank

Frank Report 15 Aug 2016 11:29

Have just lost over an hours posting. So I will try later.

Jane

Jane Report 15 Aug 2016 16:42

Hot Hot Hot

I have just found a dead young RAT !!. I wonder who killed that !!!!! .It is now across the other side of the road in the ditch :-D. Now I am a bit concerened about putting poison down again. Chris says we mustn't just in case Thomas gets a poisoned one. But he hadn't eaten this one.Maybe he just eats mice but not rats.

Chris didn't wake up until about 1.30.He went to bed about 8 last night so that is getting on for 16hours !!.He said that in the night he was achey and going hot and cold.Must be a bug. He says he feels exhausted lol....He better keep his bugs to himself.
I have been to exchange a pair of lightweight trainers that I bought yesterday. They were a bit tight with socks on so I have got a size bigger and they are fine now :-) These are for the Wales trip.

My Sister will have her scan on Wednesday

Anne

Anne Report 15 Aug 2016 17:03

Sorry to hear you've lost another post Frank but look forward to hearing from you later.

It's nice and sunny here too but quite cool indoors thankfully. I've also fed the wild birds but the doves and wood pigeons are very greedy so need to feed them more than once. I bought a large sack of bird seed from Amazon which works out a lot cheaper, I also have fat balls out and peanut nibs.

Jane good luck to your sister with her scan is she is still in pain.

Hope everyone else is enjoying the lovely weather.

Just going to do the vegetables for the evening meal to have with pork chops .I only eat the veg.

How is Janice's pain today a little easier I hope.

I don't seem tohave done anything today except wash up and get lunch. I did make oh a thing he can put round his neck (no not to hang himself!) it is a holder for his ciggy substitute thing. Its so he can have it handy while he mows and he dos'nt lose it.

Once when he was mowing he mowed over his phone and it exploded and he wondered what it was till he came down the next line and saw it smouldering on the gras in about 100 pieces. He was not amused Ican tell you. That was a pay as you go one and he certainly paid a price.........

Frank try again with a smaller post please?

magpie Report 15 Aug 2016 17:18

No balloons yesterday! the wind such as it was, was coming from the east and away from us!
Today has been a beautiful day and we've just pottered about doing very little!!
Tonight is cold chicken and salad, nice and easy. The Combines have been working hard harvesting the fields down the road from us so tractors and trailers have been up and down most of the day!
We shall be glad when the Olympics are over too Mel. We've done really well, but it's all the analysis that goes with it all that irritates us!
Jane we're very careful with poison. We can keep Cas away from it, but when we had cats we didn't poison at all, just used traps. cats will eat rats, sometimes just their heads!!! :-0 and if Thomas were to eat one, it wouldn't do him a lot of good to say the least!!
Fingers crossed for your sister Jane. At least they should find out what's what and be able to treat it appropriately.

MillymollyAmanda Report 15 Aug 2016 18:54

Evening all ,

Its been a lovely day here really hot in the sun .

Had a call from the hospital ,i thought oh here we go cancelled again but it was to asked if hubby could be there by 6.45 instead of seven o'clock in the morning as he's the first on the list.
So we will have to up about five as hubby has to shower and wash his hair with the bottle of wash they gave him.
All being well i shall then visit hubby in the evening ,it will be a long day.

I'am glad your sister has got her scan sorted,is she still in pain Jane ?
No you won't be able to put poison down with Thomas out hunting as he does, but traps would be a better option .

I spotted Nicko this morning ,he hasn't gone far away ,he was all covered up with his plastic sheeting round the other side of the bell tower in the churchyard ,when i came back he had gone so at least i know he's about .

Jane

Jane Report 15 Aug 2016 19:26

Janice is just the same.Nothing changed pain wise. She sounds quite miserable :-(
She has to have a full bladder for her scan on Wednesday which is at 9.50am

So early night for you both tonight Mandy. Is he nil by mouth after midnight? I have not heard of patients being given special shower/hair wash from hospital.
It is good he is first on the list .No hanging about :-D.. You won't know what to do with yourself tomorrow morning .Probably pacing up and down bit of cleaning etc.Anything to keep yourself occupied .
Have to go as Dinner is nearly ready.

Anne

Anne Report 15 Aug 2016 19:31

Mandy, I hope all goes well with your husband's Op. but being first at least he won't be kept hanging about, you will have to keep busy to help the time pass.

Pleased you saw Nicko again do you know how long he has been in your area?

Just going to watch University Challenge and later on Only Connect.
