To be honest Mel, we wouldn't allow anyone to use our field for any activities unless they took out appropriate insurance to cover them and us. People these days sue at the drop of a hat and its just not worth the risk! Perhaps the organisers of the dog show will be prepared to do that?!
Oh dear Frank, I bet that hurt!! Hope you're feeling more comfortable now!
Did some gardening this morning, read this afternoon, and now having a think about supper!!

Thing is Frank, there could have been a rickety chair, slippery floor, anything really that year's ago wouldn't have been an issue, but now we live in an age of litigation are leapt on! It's a sad fact, but you have to insure for everything these days or not do it!

There is always someone to put the mockers on something that is enjoyable for many people .What a shame this has put you off now Mel for letting your field used for the yearly Dog Show.

Oh Frank ,that made me wince when you described Ros bashing into your leg !! I can imagine the air turned BLUE ! Sounds like you have a nice meal tonight and then out for lunch tomorrow. :-D
Frank will only know this The Samuel Pepys pub has closed and is up for sale.It is all boarded up !!! :-0 :-0.That was a real shock to see that.

I hope there is good news for Mandy today and that Colin is home :-D

Colin is home , he rang about one o'clock to say he could come home ,his tablets were all ready but then son had to go off and find a wheel chair they don't have them on the ward you have to go and hunt one down ,well son went from one end of the hospital to the other and finally found one in the out patients department.
We got home just before four o'clock, then with a bit of moving chairs about in the conservatory we got him settled .

We've had one or two heavy showers today.

Oh Frank i bet that was painful, poor Ros must have felt awful when it happened.

Jane

Jane Report 20 Aug 2016 21:01

That's good to hear Colin is home now :-D. Wheelchairs are notoriously difficult to get hold of in hospitals Mad isn't it :-S.. I hope he is comfy in his downstairs bed and that you don't have to do too much running up and down in the night.Does he have a little bell to ring if he needs you? :-D That is not a bad idea.
Bet Max is glad to see his 'Dad' home again' I expect he was very excited .Hopefully he won't try jumping up and hitting his hip.

I feel so pooped tonight ,I think I will be off to bed any minute now. Thomas is in and settled so no need to worry about him.

Night Night.

Evening All,

What great news Mandy! I bet Colin will be pleased to sleep at home in the quiet tonight. It sounds as if he's doing really well. :-) Max will be pleased to see his 'dad' too!

What a shame Mel. I bet the locals won't be pleased at losing your field for the Dog Show. Sorry to hear you have had bad news too.

Oh Frank......it's sod's law that if you have a bit of you that's delicate, it always gets knocked!! :-S I bet Ros was so sorry about it. All this pain you are getting must be getting you down. I hope you enjoyed your skate wing.......I've yet to try some.

Liz, OH was only trying to wind me up about the Hipster beard!! I played along and told him he'd have to slim a bit if he was to get in the skinny jeans they wear!! lol. We both commented after that the goatee beards that were so common a few years ago seem to have disappeared now.

We had venison steaks for our supper,, with chips and courgette and it was delicious!
We're now in bed, getting ready to snuggle down! Hopefully it'll be a better day tomorrow weatherwise!

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Aug 2016 22:20

It just seem strange that you can insure for £160 but they could still claim against you!!

Anyway we are not taking any chances.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Aug 2016 22:22

So glad Colin is home and you will be too Mandy. No more visiting. You will be able to look after him yourself now and Max willbe pleased to have him home too.

Night night all.

magpie

magpie Report 21 Aug 2016 07:02

People always initially make a claim against you Mel, like they do if you have a car accident, but if you're insured you just pass the claim onto the company and they take it up for you and settle the amount, so you're not out of pocket. My cousin had to take out insurance ( the farm insisted!) when they hired a field for his daughters wedding reception this June. Like all insurance you just have to shop around for a decent deal and see what comes up. I expect the NFU would good to use.
Hope your hubby had decent night Mandy. It must be nice to have him home.

Morning All

Looks like it is more promising today. We actually have some blue sky :-D :-D,and that wind has gone.
I am sat in bed watching a couple of horses in the field having a good run up and down. They are having great fun.

I hope OH has managed a comfortable night Mandy and that you too got a good sleep.I expect you would have had one ear open for him all night.

magpie Report 21 Aug 2016 09:09

Actually Mel, your property insurance might well cover the dog show as its on your land. We've got third party party cover incorporated into ours which would cover anyone working for us, the chap who uses our barn and any visitors who might have an accident, even the postman!! It might be worth checking the terms of your policy with your Insurers to see if you're already covered. You would probably have to let your them know about a particular event, but it might solve the problem!

Morning all,

You've both been busy posting this morn in g and thanks for the advice. I am not bothered really that we won't have the show on the field. People nose around the potting sheds and it was after one show we had some things go missing.

Better day here too today with some blue sky as Jane said and a fresh breeze I think you would call it after yesterday. Bit gusty still though.

Sitting here with my COT. Oh is out cleaning his filters for the big pond. He'll be in in a min for a coffee.

Love to Colin and I hope he had a better nights sleep now he's home. It must be good to have him back.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Aug 2016 11:47

Clouded over here now and just as I put the washing on the line we have had lightish rain........typical. :-(

Frank

Frank Report 21 Aug 2016 12:38

Afternoon all,

A better night last night, even though I was awake for a few hours between tablets. Ros said I was snoring during the night, so I must have got some good sleep.

Just waiting for Ros to come in from hanging out a load of washing ( sheets etc) then she can get my stockings off so I can get showered and shaved. I will put a pair of trousers on today, which will make a change from shorts.

Glad Colin is home and settled, is he getting pain like me ?? These exercises certainly put me through my pain barrier.. I am getting around on one walking stick now. Two seemed a problem with not a lot of space to. move about in, in the lounge.

We have had quotes for redecorating the lounge. You wouldn't believe he differences in prices. £1000.00 is the average. cheapest £375.00 from a friend of Martine's who is retired.

I agree with Liz, that your Insurance should cover you for your field Mel. But I realise that you don't want to take any risks, that might cost you money .

The SKATE WING was so nice and tasty, I think not having t cook it made it even better.

Nice sunny morning here today.

That is a shock Jane, that pub has been there for as long as I have been up this way (1964)

Do hope you are all well, will try to get back on tonight. xxxx

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 21 Aug 2016 13:35

Afternoon all,

Nice and sunny here today and so warm but it poured with rain in the night .

Frank glad you had a better night last night , thats quite a high price for the decorating ,is it wall papering or just painting ?

Colin had a very good night and no Frank he doesn't seem to have had any really bad pain just the odd twinge when the pain killer needs topping up, he was on morphine but now he's back on his Tramodol tablets and Paracetamol.
It takes ages for him to get washed and dressed as he has to be so careful not to put his full weight on the leg so he's still using the frame , he's not to good on the crutches yet and would never had done the stairs .
They have given him a long piece of tubular bandage to put under his foot to help lift his bad leg onto the bed and onto a stool when he's sitting in the chair.
Going to the loo is a job in its self ,moving from the frame to the toilet frame and back again !!!
We did buy a bottle for him to use in the night which does save in and out of bed in the night .
He's fast asleep now ,all the washing shaving and a hair wash has worn him out.
I had quite a good night too ,i think we were both worn out .

Jane

Jane Report 21 Aug 2016 14:26

Well it has certainly hotted up here. It's boiling.I have had to put a thinner top on.
I nipped to little Sainsbury just now to get some cooking oil for the roast potatoes.here was a right old ding dong going on in there between a customer and management.I did think the Manager though should have taken the lady somwehere a bit more private as the Manager had the loudest voice and you could hear her all over the shop.
Then I thought while I was out I would pop to Bosworths Gardeb Centre to get some more Thyme and Tarragon to replace my old ones which have gone a bit ropey.

Frank you must feel better today after a fairly good night sleep.I wonder if things are taking longer for you as you have your Stroke leg to cope with as well as the new knee. But you do sound as though you are getting there slowly.

Colin sounds as though he is doing great Mandy. He will probably have lots of cat naps through the day as like you said just doing the simplest of things will wear him out.

Frank I hope that someone does take over the Samuel Pepys again. It is a nice little pub with Conservatory Restaurant. It has been one of those pubs that has changed hands several times over the years since we came here in 1985.It would a shame if it didn't reopen as there are not too many Village Pubs left these days. I remember we had my Mums 80th Birthday Celebrations there and I think my 50th.

Thomas seems to have sleeping sickness today LOL.He is normally out and about now but is snoring his head off on his bed.

Well I better peel the spuds and do the veg for tonight. Proper Roast Beef Dinner today(NOT WITH CAULIFLOWER CHEESE THOUGH) :-D

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Aug 2016 15:06

Frank its good you had a better night and have caught up a bit on some sleep. Lets hope things keep improving for you.x

Mandy it must be so awful for Colin to get the frame around inside the loo and negotiate to get on the other frame. I bet he would rather be home though than in the hosp.

Well I don't know about your hot weather but it has'nt stopped raining here since this morning when I put the washing out so it had to go in the dryer plus the second lot I did.

magpie

magpie Report 21 Aug 2016 15:07

We've just had our lunch here. Roast Duck, spinach carrots and spuds. all from the garden except the duck. A bit windy and sunny here this morning, but now the wind's dropped and it's raining quite hard!! Taking Cas for a run, then settling down with my book!
OH has just given me a rose from the garden and three wedges of choc!! ahhh!!

Jane

Jane Report 21 Aug 2016 16:28

Ah! Liz how romantic .A Rose and chocolate :-D..I can't imagine Chris picking a Rose for me from the garden.
I hope the rain isn't heading this way.Although there are some very odd clouds forming. The sun is still out :-D Towels on the line drying .They should be done soon.

I was just thinking (and I know we have done this) But the left overs from a Joint of beef when I was little would have been Rissoles and a Cottage Pie. My left overs will just be sliced Beef in Gravy with Mashed Potatoes and Greens tomorrow. I don't think I have ever made Rissoles.Have to say I never realy liked them.

LOL I can hear some serious cleaning going on upstairs in the bathroom. As James is in all day I have said it is his job :-D :-D..He is the only one to use that bathroom anyway..One less job for me.

Is it this weekend that Anne has gone on holiday ? Or is it next Friday?
