Morning Mel and All, Evening Kim,

We have wall to wall sunshine here, and VERY WARM. Fan on full blast.

Ros has just showered and washed her hair. The Rollers are out, then he hair dryer. So no peace here for an hour or so.

In the wars yesterday. Ros was ironing, I walked passed her and kicked the leg of the board with my right big toe. I thought how painful it felt this morning, so took off my stocking and the toe is swollen and bruised. The knee is still being a Bugger, but from what Mandy said it can be expected.

I trust Thomas arrived home safe and sound last night Jane, little devil keeping you from your beauty sleep ;-) ;-) ;-)
I expect the nurses at the hospital were not informed that Colin had been glued and not stapled. Lets hope it all holds in place !!!

I haven't planned on running round the block today, but I will have to do some exercises :-( :-( :-0 :-0 :-| :-| :-| :-P :-P :-P :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

Morning All,

And where would we be without you Frank!! :-) :-)

Sorry I haven't been around as much lately only I've had a few difficult and worrying weeks since I got called back for more investigation after my recent mammogram. Last Friday they did more mammograms and an ultrasound scan, but weren't happy, so did a biopsy as well. They were able to assure me that what they found was small and that there was no spread, but not that it wasn't cancer so there followed another unsettling week till I went back for the results this morning. Luckily they were able to tell me straightaway that everything is fine and that what they found was a normal change and won't lead to anything sinister. Thank goodness for these checks though as it was too small to be felt and had it been cancer it was caught small enough not to have spread or need a mastectomy. The staff and nurses at the clinic were brilliant and we did see tears in the waiting room as 1 in 4 called back do have cancer.

As if this wasn't enough on my mind I had an awful fright yesterday afternoon. We went to see another open garden and had to park about quarter of a mile away along a narrow lane . On the way back down the lane afterwards I let out a yelp as something stung under my wrist. It was a big wasp type thing and I had to brush it away with my hand a few times before it dislodged. The next moment more were on my top and jeans and stinging me through the fabric and as I frantically tried to brush them off OH said my back was now covered in them!! I glanced around as he was knocking them off my back with his fisherman size umbrella and saw a seething football sized ball of them near the ditch about 12 feet away. I realised I was in big trouble and started walking as fast as I could, still knocking as many off my clothes as I could as they just kept flying back onto me again. We were still 100 yards from the car and OH kept telling me to stop so he could get them off my back, but I knew I had to get to the car as well, as more and more were following me. By the time I reached the car and was gasping for breath as I'm too heavy to run, there were just a few still following me, thank goodness. The stings I could see had already left huge red patches about 3 inches across and my hands were so shaky, we decided to pop into the doctors on the way home for a nurse to look at them. We had to stop and let a couple of them out of the car on the way! When the nurse asked me to remove my clothes, 2 more flew out in the room!! I'm on antihistamines now to reduce the reaction, but last night the stings were so sore and prickly I kept waking and thinking they were still on me and stinging!! I kept thinking what would have happened if I'd been walking on my own?? It isn't as if I'd trodden on their nest or anything. These stings were far more painful than ordinary wasp stings I've had years ago and the most odd thing is that they never touched OH even though he was knocking them off me as fast as he could. He said he never had to even brush one off himself!! One things for sure, I shall be very wary now if I see a wasp when I'm out walking and be looking for it's 1000 pals nearby!!

Beautiful morning here. Son didn't go till after midnight! We had such a fab evening, chatting and laughing, it did us both good! Today were not going much! Cas has had her burn up so she's asleep in her cage! OH is in his workshop pottering around sorting out a bit of machinery, and I'm outside in the sun reading and lazing!
Monday the entourage will be here for the day and little boy is staying with us for a couple of nights! so hopefully it'll be fine.

magpie Report 26 Aug 2016 12:13

Dear oh dear Ann what a horrid time you've had I'm so sorry! Thank goodness the scan was ok though! I had the same problem about two years ago, and had to be recalled. Like you it was basically to do with getting older. The relief was enormous!!
We've had terrible trouble with wasps this year. One nest has been destroyed, but we have another that is right up high out side our barn and can't be reached, so we're constantly on the look out! How wise you were to call in at the surgery after an attack like that. Our son's partner suffered an anaphylactic fit a year or two ago when she was stung, she had to be rushed to hospital and was very very ill for some weeks and now has medication that she must carry with her at all times. I wonder why you attracted such an attack? As you say thank goodness you weren't on your own, you must have been very frightened, it's a horrible thing to have happened. Hope you're feeling better now.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Aug 2016 14:28

O gosh Ann what an experiance and you must have been so frightened. Did you have a flowery top on in a certain colour? Do you think they were those angry wasps we seem to be getting in this country now? You said they were big ones.

As to your scrare with the mammogram I am pleased it was nothing to worry about. I just had a feeling something was'nt right with you but that all together was a very hard thing to get through and thank goodness G was with you.

Wall to wall sunshine here too and the sheets are nearly dry on the line and the bed all changed so I may just have a muddle in the garden when it cools down a bit.

Gosh I am still thinking about those wasps. I had one in the kitchen this morning when I was washing up and it went up my sleeve and I had to get my rubber gloves off before I could take my shirt off and inspect it to make sure it was'nt still in there. Then I could'nt find it anywhere!! Made a jam jar wasp trap and put it down by the dustbin and I have caught two already. I have one of my plums in it with some cider and honey. They work a treat.

I can't settle !!! I want to go on the patio but I m frightened of the steps, so will stay indoors safe and sound.

Forgot to say, Ros bought a new bulb for the bathroom yesterday. It's the same shape as the old bulb, but modern technology. It's guaranteed for FIFTEEN YEARS. I hope I am around when it runs out ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Ann, I saw your post on FB what a shock that must have been. Were they HORNETS ???

Just having a COT and fruit cake. Just enough to keep me going.

My darling wife is making me a fish pie for this evening. By the look of the amount of fish It will last me a week or two. ;-) ;-) ;-) Brings back a memory of my EX making me a rabbit pie. The BEAST would have fed Desperate DAN. It was her 1st attempt after we moved into our new home. I spoke to the butcher a few days later, and he advised her just to have a few pieces NOT the biggest rabbit in the shop. !!!

Still very hot and humid here.

We have Conrad and Jan coming tomorrow afternoon. They are bringing Ella and Alexander. So we will have a house full tomorrow. I expect it will be Chinese and Indian Takeaway for tea . I had offered to book a table somewhere, but Jan thought it might be to much for Alexander as he's only just over one year old.

Have a pleasant afternoon and evening folks.

THANKS MEL,

Just reminded me, we have loads of traps in the garage, Ros will have to get them out and hang them around the patio.

Afternoon all,

Oh goodness Ann what a worrying time you have had , i'm so glad it turned out ok for you , and then all this with the wasps , do you think you might have trod on one and that set them all off , thank goodness OH was there to help , i hope your feeling better and the antihistamines are easing the pain a little.
I was only saying yesterday we haven't seen many wasps this year .

We have had Jake and Katie here today while son and DIL took Chelsea to the dentist in Norwich, she still hasn't got her front tooth through yet ,her baby tooth came out months ago but for some reason the adult tooth just won't break through the gum, it was growing through at an angle , they are just keeping an eye on it and they have to take her back in a years time.
Jake and Katie wanted to stay for lunch and Chelsea decided she would too ,but Lacey isn't keen on Max so she wouldn't stay , we had a nice F&C sitting out side and we took them home about three oclock ,we stayed for a cup of tea and have just got home.

Boy it is hot out there today the pots will want watering tonight .

We're sitting outside on the veranda having a long cold shandy, while OH contemplates cooking supper! It'll be remains of last night's chicken with a tomato and basil sauce, mushrooms and rice! bananas and cream for pudding. It's been a lovely day here, bed changed, washing dried, folded and put away, so that's that job done for a day or two! Tomorrow it will probably rain, so I shall tackle those beetroot while OH stews and freezes some more plums - all go in this house!!!

Annx

Annx Report 26 Aug 2016 19:26

No, I was just wearing a plain navy blue top and blue jeans. I did wonder if I'd trodden on one Mandy, or maybe it was me brushing off the first one that stung me that set the others off as they let off pheromones if injured that cause the others to attack. The only other thing is that I did have a squirt of perfume on. I have been trying to look them up Mel/Frank as the thing we both noticed was that they hung their legs down as they flew and their legs were brown not yellow like the wasps I see in our garden. OH said they looked like spiders from the front with their dangly legs!! They might have been Hornets, judging by how painful their stings were, but weren't really huge. Otherwise we have those Asian wasps here now, which is what I think you may have meant Mel. It shocked me how they stabbed through thick denim jeans and my top and quite a thick supportive bra with such ease! A reaction like that was what I was a bit worried about Liz. I'm allergic to various things now and didn't know how many stings I had. (I found 2 more today so that's 12 altogether) Mind you the doctor told the nurse that a reaction like that would have most likely happened straightaway. Your son's partner's experience sounds far worse and she must be very wary of them now!! I think I shall sleep better tonight as the antihistamines have helped, but I still have the red patches with white centres that have started itching now.

Your grandaughter did well in her exams Liz. It will have boosted her confidence for her A levels.

Good idea to stay safe away from the patio and any steps today Frank. ;-)

Lacey is a little small to be dealing with Max and his enthusiasm just yet I suppose now he's getting bigger and stronger!

What's happening with your teeth now Mel? Are you just waiting for more new ones to be made?

Our neighbour opposite us is moving now so they can be nearer to help with 2 lots of grandchildren.

magpie Report 26 Aug 2016 19:45

Yes Ann the reaction to the wasp sting was fairly instantaneous, but oddly Partner had been stung before without any adverse reaction , but that particular time it was very frightening and nearly fatal. She's now part of a clinical trial being conducted at Bristol, which finishes in a week or two. It could have been the perfume that promoted the attack you suffered, as donkeys years ago my mother was similarly attacked by wasps on a beach in Cornwall and had to run into the sea to escape. That was put down to the suncream she was wearing, so it could have been the same for you.
We've had supper and are watching Nat Geo! Like you Frank, we love these progs,

Not very nice here today with grey sky which dos'nt look likeit is going to brighten up.

I have a dosy fly on my desk this morning and its driving me mad. Its on my sweety jar so I must wash that and put it away.

Hope all slept better last night.

Hope the stings are feeling better too Ann.

Frank Report 27 Aug 2016 11:42

Morning all, Evening Kim.

What a to do last night. We were sitting in the lounge and I said to Ros where's the cat.?? We hadn't seen her all day. So a search of the bungalow, with no results. We called the neighbours and searched the garden. Still no luck. I even went on FB to say she was missing. She is worth in excess of £400.00 so not a cheap moggy.. Ros had left the bedroom window open, so we thought that was her escape route. She had already closed it earlier. So I said open it, she might come back in that way. When she looked out of the bedroom window, there she sat on the patio. So we make sure she can't get out again NOW. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Harvey is 50 today. So Lewis has put banners all round their holiday caravan, so all and sundry will know !!!

I THINK I HAVE BROKEN MY BIG TOE :-( :-( :-( I can't put my right foot to the ground, without a lot of pain. If I leave my toe alone it sticks in the air, but if I try to flatten it the pain starts. I've been awake most of the night. The pain has been so serve re that it has had me screaming, Ros wanted to take m to A & E at 4.00 am. but I don't think they can do anything for me. Is that right NURSE JANE ??

We have had a shower this morning, with more rain promised during the day, which doesn't bare thinking about. IT'S SO BLOO#Y MUGGY NOW> !!!

How are your stings this morning Ann ?? You could put TCP on them. That will help, apart from the smell. ;-) ;-) ;-)

You don't have a bad life do you Liz, sitting around having Shandy deciding what to have for dinner. Good luck to you both. That's what life is all about.

Conrad and Jan called in last night with Ella on the was to Kerry's. They will be back this afternoon to stay a few hours. Conrad fly's back to Spain from East Midlands tomorrow morning at 6.00 am. So they will need an early night tonight. Jan is calling back Sunday lunchtime with Ella and Alexander. I will take them to the
Toby Carvery for lunch. It will save Ros cooking. Kerry is working with her husband this weekend on a food exhibition. Hence Jane baby sitting.

Have a nice aternoon, whatever you are doing. xxx

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Aug 2016 12:48

O Frank you are in the wars today. Has the toe taken the pain away from your knee??

Sounds like you have put the joint out in your toe. I destroyed the cartledge (sp) in my right big toe and it dos'nt bend up anymore just under so no wearing of high heels for me anymore.

Jane

Jane Report 27 Aug 2016 12:59

I think you should do as Ros says Frank :-D.Just to get your toe checked. Is it your op leg or the other one?. I think they may just strap the toe to the other .Thats what they used to do.But you need to be able to get your foot down so you can walk and keep doing your exercises .
That goodness the cat didn't wander off too far Frank !! At least she is now all secure again. Was that the first time she had done that?

All cloud here so far today. WE did have a really heavy shower earlier but it didn't last long.
Police have been as next doors out house's have been broken into again asking if we had seen anything .As Chris said we can't see a darned thing as they never cut there side of the hedge and bushes. It is the same with their front. It is madness to let things grow as high as they do as anyone could slip in and not be seen. Also they always have all the curtains pulled at the front !!! So that is another stupid thing. They are odd and can't bare the thought that anyone could see in.It is plenty far back from the road for anyone to see in through the windows (unless a light was on)

We are over run with tomatoes at the moment.Fitz has just come and taken a load from us.

Mel did you see Gardners World last night your Rosemoor Garden place was on it :-D

Mandy was it yesterday the 'dog lady' was coming to see you?I think I might have lost track a bit with some of the posts .
I am going to top and tail the dwarf beans that we have just picked and have a bite of lunch.

Annx

Annx Report 27 Aug 2016 13:35

Morning All,

Oh Frank, what a worry till the cat turned up! :-0 I bet you are checking where she is all the time now. Your toe doesn't sound right ........might it need a splint to hold it in place while it heals? Could you get a telephone appointment and speak to the doctor for advice?

I hope Jane is feeling better today. I have felt a bit off the last couple of days, but that's not surprising really. I did sleep like a log last night though which has helped.

We did plan to go to the county show today as they have all kinds of farm animals there as well as the usual things, but with these pesky stings itching like mad as soon as I get a bit warm it didn't seem like a good idea anymore. So, OH has gone to a match and I am going to the Village Show up the road at Broughton Astley. As well as the flower and the vegetable classes they have a craft section with paintings and photos so I might get some inspiration!
