Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Aug 2016 19:58

Looks like rain now as the sky has turned very grey and the air cold.

JANE did you catch up on the program I told you about. Its One Of Us on BBC 1 Tuesdays. I have only seen the first one and shall watch the second one tonight.

Annx

Annx Report 31 Aug 2016 20:30

I think the reason the doc didn't suggest antihistamine cream Mel is because she'd already told me to double up the antihistamine tablets I was taking. She was particular to ask what strength those were before saying double them up so I think adding cream may be too much! Yes where does all the dust and dirt come from when there are only 2 of you!!!!

OH noticed tonight in places I couldn't see that there were black bits of the sting still embedded in 3 places and managed to scrape them out. All the websites I've looked at suggest you should get them out otherwise the venom will still seep out for a while. I showed the nurse where one was still sticking out of my arm so you would have thought this would be something she would check with the rest of them. :-S

How worrying for Janice Jane. I hope her doctor will be able to throw more light on what the results mean tomorrow. Yes, there were a lot of small sizes at Primark and maybe some ranges don't go up to larger sizes, but some did which is good.

Anne Report 1 Sep 2016 08:14

Morning Gill and everyone

Good to see you back Gill and all is set up for you now.

Ann did you read the article about a new breed of wasps, they did sound very much like the ones that stung you, it mentioned about a chap that had to escape into his garden shed to get away from them.

We watched the first episode "One of Us" and have recorded the 2nd one, we have also been watching "The Young Victoria". Ann I also saw the little dog being reunited with it's owners, it was good to see a really happy ending, I am going to watch Paul O' Grady "For the Love of Dogs" tonight.

Frank pleased to hear you are at last on the mend.

I still haven't read all the posts, it's taken me ages to get back in the swing of things this week after the holiday,

Must go now as my Sainsbury delivery is waiting to be put away.

Pinch and a Punch for the first of the month.

Morning all,

Good to see Gill back with us again after a long time away.

I seem to be having trouble with BT this morning so if I disappear you'll know why.

Not long now till Christmas everyone, only just under 3 months. I'll say it again too, I don't know where this year has gone. The dentist asked me how long I had had the teeth I was wearing and I told him a year now.

Have to go to Holsworthy this afternoon for chicken corn and pellets and some mole traps. The blighters have come up around my pond in the back garden all around the path up the side and in the chicken run which is a long way away.

Another job for today is to wash out the corn bin as when next door gave me that bag of corn in was full of mite and oh put it straight on my clean corn. Every time I have corned them since I could smell it and felt all itchy after doing it.

Morning all, Evening Kim,

Just a quickie as I have to go next door to try to sort out how to cancel their flights etc for next week. Dennis has been poorly, and in hospital, so won't be able to travel.. I just hope I am able to help. If not I imagine there is a telephone Number, so you can speak to a human.

Home alone as it's stitchery do today. Will catch you later.

Has anyone got a receipe for PORK WELLINGTON??? PLEASE.

magpie Report 1 Sep 2016 12:04

We're just sitting having a cuppa before making a buffet lunch. Waitrose was very crowded this morning and it took us ages to get through!
Can't help you Frank over the Pork Wellingtons. I used to make Beef ones years ago, but I can't remember how I did them! I expect you'll find a recipe on line (Google) though, as you can look up most things these days pretty easily.

Afternoon Everyone
Hi Gill.So glad you are back with once more :-D :-D

Well Chris and I have been sat here waiting for our visitors ..........IT IS TOMORROW they are coming !!!!!!!. At least the place is all clean and tidy so nothing to do tomorrow .I had it on the calander for today too :-S.No food is spoilt and all I got will be good for tomorrow still.I will go and get changed again now and put my old stuff on :-D

WE have just had a chap round to test our water. There has been a massive leak somewhere near Warkton. He had to check for the level of Chlorine I think. All is good .At the same time he was here the doorbell rang and the phone too.All a bit crazy.

Frank as Liz says there are plenty of recipes on Google .I just had a look for Pork Wellington and there seem to be a few to choose from.Hope you find one suitable.

Liz I hope you have a lovely lunch with your visitors.(hope you have got the right day LOL ). The sun is shining and it is a really nice day.Looks like it might be a bit wet tomorrow :-| which will be such a shame as Mark loves to sit out on our patio. We have spent many hours with him over the years sitting out there into the small hours with a bottle or two of wine when he came to stay with us after his Mum died and he was at Cambridge Uni.He has lots of happy memories here.

I have a pan of Runner Beans cooking away nicely with garlic and a tin of chopped tomatoes. My favourite as you know
:-D

What are you like Jane! I thought it was only me who got things wrong.

I went to Holsworthy for chicken food and as I went up the big hill between the houses each side and put my foot on the break I had the most awful grinding noise. I told Stuart I had an earpeirceing squeak when I had it MOT'd. I had to come home without using the breaks too much and just caught him before he closed so now I have to take the car in to him in the morning. It never rains but it pours, one thing after another so MORE EXPENCE!!!!!!

Gillx

Gillx Report 1 Sep 2016 17:33

Fancy getting the date wrong Jane, at least you're ready for tomorrow, hope you have a lovely time :-)

Hope you had a nice lunch with your visitors today Liz

Sorry to hear about your car Mel, you were very lucky you didn't lose your breaks altogether, at least it'll be sorted soon.

Yes it's nice to be back, my last router finally gave up the ghost, hence why I haven't been online for a while. My time wasn't wasted though as I managed to get lots done in the garden. The garage is finally down and now we're getting someone in to remove the base, hopefully that'll be on Saturday, then it's just a point of sorting out the patio.

I had a stressful day yesterday and ended up calling the gas board out because I thought we had a gas leak. We had been trying to remove a tall concrete post and half way through the job we noticed that it had been concreted in between a drain and a gas pipe. We had levered it in all sorts of directions to loosen it when we noticed some yellow plastic and realised it was the cover over the gas pipe so we left the post alone and asked our neighbour for advice, he advised that we chipped away at the top of the concrete gently, which I started yesterday while OH was in work, then all of a sudden I smelt something and thought it was gas. Luckily there wasn't a gas leak and in the end I called someone to take the post out for us, just to be on the safe side, but now because the post was in between two different patio areas, the two areas aren't going to match together without relaying at least one of the patio's so I'm going to ask the fella who is taking the garage base out if he can sort it out for us.

Michelle is visiting at the beginning of October so I'd like it all sorted by then, at the moment we have a great big hole where the post was and it's right in the pathway to our back door which is quite dangerous. The fella I got to remove the post lifted it out by hand, he gave it a sort of bear hug and pulled. I've never seen a man so strong and it only took him an hour, OH and I could hardly move it between us. I'm just glad it's out of the way now. Once the garage base is out we can sort out the fencing, we've put in three panels but I'd like to cover it in screening to match the other side of the garden and move the gate we had around the back to the side. Hopefully the garden will look nice then, before Michelle's visit.

Off to watch the bake off now with Sandra I recorded it and forgot about it till she mentioned it. We like watching programmes like that together :-)

Visitors have just made tracks back to Somerset! We've had such a lovely day, made even better by the sun!!
Oh dear Mel! It sounds like new brake shoes! I'd have thought your chap would have checked the brakes thoroughly at your MOT, particularly when you told him about the loud squeak!! As you say, more expense!! Jane, I did smile at your day muddle!! It's so easily done. I once took my mother to the theatre on the wrong night!!! Luckily we got two cancellations, else it would have been very difficult!!
Tomorrow we've planned a quiet day after our busy week. Hope your stings are feeling better Ann, and glad you had a good holiday other Anne.

Jane

Jane Report 1 Sep 2016 18:02

I am not sure if it was me or Mark who got the date wrong I am sure it couldn't have been me !! ;-) ;-) :-D. Whatever we will see them tomorrow :-D

Gill it sounds like you have been full on in the garden since we last heard from you.
Thank goodness you didn't have a gas leak !!!!

Mel I hope it isn't a too expensive job on your brakes tomorrow ! You just can't take a risk when it comes to brakes .Thery have to be right. Must be safe :-D

Annx Report 1 Sep 2016 20:06

Evening All,

Thank you Liz and yes, at last a lot of the stings have become less hot and red today so the the antibiotics are working at last. I also got a good night's sleep last night with a coating of calamine!! The sting on my ring finger has spread up and onto the back of my hand now and is swollen so my rings are staying off for now. Sounds like you have had a nice day. It's been sunny here too but with a slight breeze that kept it from being too hot.

Anne, as I've been looking up about wasps I have come across things about the more aggressive german wasps being here now, also some really vicious Asian Hornets that have a dangerous sting. It seems this is a particularly bad year for wasps.

Oh no Mel, not more car expense!! I hope it is just worn out brake pads and that they haven't scored the discs badly or it will be more expensive. I have noticed a slight 'ping' noise on mine when I turn the steering wheel either way sharply. They are going to look at it for me when it goes in for it's first service at the end of this month.

Jane I had to smile at the thought of you and Chris clock watching and waiting for your guests!!! lol It's just the sort of thing I would do. :-)

Gill you have been busy as usual and have got a lot done. Best to be safe about the gas though.......it must have been a shock seeing the yellow tape. When we had the cable put in for the waterfall pump, the electrician buried it deep and put yellow tape over it.

OH isn't doing too well this week. Yesterday he went out without his belt and found his trousers were dropping down!! :-0 Today while we were out for lunch at The Grove, he spilt mint sauce and gravy down his shirt and on his lap, then knocked a jug of milk all over the table narrowly missing my newspaper. Not content with that, he then dropped a spoonful of his icecream on the table!! :-S He was pleased to hear today that he's been appointed after the interview the other day.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Sep 2016 22:00

Perhaps is was meant to be your router failed Gill as you seem to have got on so well with the garden. Just the patios to sort out and you will be all straight and ready to go nice and early next year.

Ann at last you are getting some relief from your stings. Oh said it could have been the german wasps as they are aggresive. I knew I had heard somewhere about some wasps that were'nt nice and been warned about them. Hope you have another good night tonight. Poor G with all those things happening to him but so good he was appointed for the interveiw he took the other day.

Jane have a lovely day tomorrow with your company.

Gillx Report 1 Sep 2016 22:25

I haven't caught up with all the posts yet, it sounds like you've been really badly stung Ann if you are on antibiotics, hope you are feeling a bit better now. It's difficult to catch up with everything with being away from the thread for so long. Did you disturb a wasps nest?
Yes it was quite a shock to find the gas pipe, it was only about 8 inches underground, I'd of thought it should of been a lot lower than that, like the drain pipe was. Luckily there's no damage and the concrete post is now out. It does sound like your OH is having a run of bad luck lately, lets hope his luck changes for the better soon :-) at least he's had a bit of good luck after the interview.

Yes Mel, I was thinking the same thing about my router going on me like that, we managed to get so much done in the garden and are almost finished now. I still have a small bit of paving to do down the bottom of the garden for the shed to go on but that won't take long, then OH can choose his shed and put it up. At the moment we have his tools in our spare room, he has quite a lot so the room is almost full. Hopefully we'll be straight both inside and out before the winter gets here. Then of course I'll have Christmas to think about LOL.

I've just had OH's workmate back to sort out my email as he had to go last night before he could do it for me, but now the site is playing up so he said he'll come back again if I can't get it sorted myself tomorrow. I did notice my old email account is still active so I might go to the bank and see if they are still taking payments off me, if they are then I'll cancel the direct debit as I shouldn't still be with them, I'm not paying for two providers.

Going to watch for the love of dogs now, I recorded it while OH's mate was here and Sandra wants to watch it now he's gone.

See you all tomorrow
Night Night <3

Gillx Report 2 Sep 2016 08:27

Morning all

Dull and cloudy here today, hope it doesn't rain as I need to move my pot plants off the concrete base the garage was on so it's ready for the fella to take the base out. I also need to take up a few flag stones. I'm going to ask the fella if he can sort out the two patio's so they join together nicely, some of the flag stones might need cutting and I don't have the right equipment to do it myself. I hope he can do it at the same time as taking the base away as we have quite a big hole where the post was and it's dangerous.

Well, I'd better get to work, lots to do. I also need to ring the fella to see if he is definitely coming tomorrow and what time as we need to get the car fixed, it broke down the other day so OH wants to fix it tomorrow when he's off work and needs to nip out for the part.
Hope all goes well for your car today Mel <3

Morning all and Gill,

Dull and dreary here too with wet stuff in the air. Just having a COT before taking my car in. Oh has to take the chicken food out the boot first and I have toget myself together.

I think it will be an ironing day today as I certainly shan't be in the garden. Shall also have a dig down the freezer for something for dinner tonight.

As I said before Gill you will be pleased when its all finished and not long now then we need an indian summer so you can sit out and enjoy it.

We did'nt hear from Mandy yesterday, did we? Hope Colin is coming along ok and our Frank had a better night and is not having trouble with the pc and can get on here today.
