Am saving Victorian Slums till after my shower.then I can enjoy it all ready for bed.
Did a load of ironing today so now the basket is empty as oh washed all his fleecey things this morning and they dried on the line so no ironing there.

Morning all,
Not too bad today with some sunshine and wispy white clouds again.
Shopping day again....... Think I need to go into town and get a ball of soft green wool for the garland.

Victorian slums was ok but there was so much that couldn't be reproduced, i.e. the vermin, the disease, ragged children without shoes summer and winter, awful weather in winter, endless drunkenness, endless pregnancies and so on. The characters were just too well fed and much too clean when in reality.they wouldn't have been. I reckon 6 out of 10!! Sitting out in the sun today with OH, it's really warm out of the wind.

Afternoon All,
My hair was only washed once a week as a child, but as a teenager I grew it long and I washed it every other day. Now it's washed every day in the shower like Liz does, which is easy with short hair. OH does his (the bit he has!) and his beard in the shower every day too. I can imagine yours would be a faff to do with how long it is Mel, but I never liked the greasiness which made it smell if I left mine longer. I must ask my sister how often she washes hers at hers is very thick and to the middle of her back.
I enjoyed the slum prog, but agree that the people would have looked different with the lifestyle they had. I remember my mum talking about the hardship her parents had bringing up 9 children, all the hand me downs, going to school with holes in your shoes and growing a lot of their own food and this was much later than the 1800s. People must have dreaded getting illnesses then and not being able to work. People were more resourceful and responsible then. Youngsters these days with the cushion of benefits just don't know what true poverty and hardship are.
I'm off to a talk tonight about the local dog's home! It was started in the 60s and dad nearly bought the house and land that the home bought.

Afternoon all,
I have been for a walk round the block to try to loosen my knee a bit more, I must say it hasn't worked very well, I am as stiff as a board at the moment.
Ros has been unpacking more box's and I have managed to hang two painting on the lounge wall. More to do, but they can wait !!! She is building up a pile of stuff to send to the charity shop.
No problem Jane, I will try to get the BINMEN to take them, or we can take them to the tip.
We still have trouble with the THREE CATS from next door but one. Always in the same place. I have tried HOLLY, barbed wire, CURRY POWDER, and STRONG PEPPER. and still the buggers come back. I will find a way. !!!
Very cloudy here again today, no doubt the rain will follow later.
Lunch is ready, so might get back later.

People would have fleas and be scratching and even if you had a bed there would be bedbugs to contend with. People would be ignorant of dangerous substances they worked with like the matchgirls who had deformed jaws. With all the thieving you could easily be robbed of your meagre earnings. It was more existing than living and to top it all your life expectancy would be low as the average wasn't much above 40! We are so lucky aren't we!
OH had to blow a front tyre up this morning. I just hope it isn't a slow puncture as he's off to Coventry to a match tonight.

We too watch Victorian Slum, and were surprised by how well they looked. A lot of my Fathers family were bought up in the Work houses of the East End of London. I have seen from the records on Genes that they were there for some time, but I think they were allowed to vote ??
We had words this morning about who would try to hang the LARGE paintings. I won on the first, the next was too much for both of us, and there are FOUR more large ones still to go. They will have to wait until Lewis or Harvey visit. All the small ones won't be any trouble, they will just need a picture hook putting in the wall. The good thing about the BIG ones is that the screws are still in the wall.
Madam is in the garden this afternoon, sucking up the leaves from the Cherry tree.
I am in charge of dinner tonight. Lamb is in the oven, parsnips and pots are part boiled and ready for the oven. The veg can go on later.
Not a lot of activity on here again today.

Afternoon/Evening All Fingers crossed OH's tyre is ok for tonight Ann. I wonder if there might be any little doggies from the home at the meeting to try and melt peoples hearts????
My hair was washed once a week on a Sunday night ready for school on the Monday. I used to scream blue murder even with that 'halo' on.I wash my hair now every other day or sometimes I can let it go for 2 days and wash it on the 3rd.That will be a job for tomorrow morning.
Chris is a strange mood now.I can see he has the thought of having his Wisdom tooth out in the morning on his mind.It is already loose so hopefully it will come out easily. He is funny.I dread to think what he would be like if he had to have a big op !!! He watched Victorian Slums last night while I watched Cold Feet. He said he enjoyed it so I will be watching it on Catch Up.Tonight I want to see Ambulance and also National Treasure but they are on at the same time so one will have to wait .
Tomorrow morning sometime the people will be here to fix my Freezer :-D.That will be about 2 weeks I will have been without it.Can't wait to fill it up again :-D :-D.As someone said it is a good opportunity to get some bits in for Christmas. But I don't like to think about Christmas yet really.
The Hedgehog food I put out last night all went so tonight I will put the bowl a little bit further down the garden. There was still a load of mess on the patio this morning but maybe not quite as much as there has been. I did see a couple of little Mouse Poos in the bowl so they have had a bit of a snack too lol Once Thomas is in I will put the food out. Frank have you still got your Hog House? and do you still have visitors? That walk around the block will have done you good .It will have given your new knee a good bit of exercise.
Mel you are having trouble with Hen Pecking aren't you :-( :-(.Do you know why they do it?
Since I started typing this post I have had my next door Neighbour round to collect a parcel and we had a natter(which is very unusual) I found out that his Son is married and has a 5 month old daughter. His Son is training to be a GP in Preston. I have also fed Chris and James and Thomas too.(Thomas is in early tonight) So I have done the Hog food and put that out. I will have my dinner in a bit.I'm not that hungry yet.

Its been another lovely day here with sunshine most of the day and was warmer in Bideford than it was when I left home for shopping.
I went up the High St and got some nice bits and peices for my craft projects. I bought some bright green bobble edging to put my halloween bits on for the boys next door.
Oh is cooking his dinner so I better get mine ready to do.

Did'nt think much of my dinner tonight. It was a chicken and veg dish frm Morrisons. The potatoes were hard even when I cooked them again in the micro. Shan'nt be buying that again. I would have enjoyed my eggs better which is what I usually have.
Good luck for Chris tomorrow. I am sure it won't be as bad as he thinks as I found when I had my teeth out I did'nt feel a thing. The only teeth I had ever had out were my four wisdom teeth all together but I was put right out for those and that was in my late 20's.
Hope the knee dos'nt give you too much pain tonight Frank but no pain no gain so lets hope it has done it good. I seem to remember Jane's sister had a lot of pain with hers.

So Chris will be losing some of his wisdom tomorrow ;-) I think by now I would be wishing I didn't have to go if it was me. :-S Still it will soon be over with now which is good.
Frank you have been busy with your pictures! It sounds like you have more in your lounge than we have altogether. Mind you our walls are too bare really. That walk may have done your knee good as it will have stretched it a bit. It might be a bit stiffer still tomorrow though.
It sounds like your banties need chainmail vests Mel. The little horrors picking on one like that!
Sounds like Cas has a new playmate now then Liz. I expect being a puppy and bigger than her he may be a bit rough for her though.
I never got to the talk after all. The place (parish rooms) were in total darkness. :-S It's where they held the village show I went to and I know they are building a new place on the same site soon, so it looks like it may have closed for now. The Heritage group website still showed the talk, but not any new venue!!. :-S
I had one of those 'thoughts' that just come into your head when I lay in bed this morning. There was a big move to childproof caps on bottles of tablets years ago. Some are even Ann proof too. Why then is it that most tablets have been changed to blister packs nowadays which aren't childproof?

Thats a good point Ann. I still buy asprin in bottles which you have to line up the arrows on and the lids are still hard to get off. They seem to have a different one on the bottle of Tomarite I bought this year and thats a devil to get off. I even have trouble with the bleach bottles sometimes now.

Morning all,
Not a bad morning and I am hoping it will get better as the day goes on. It is dry and we do have blue sky with lots of white clouds in it. They are in like layers.
I need to ring the dentists as the bottom ones are still making my mouth very sore even when I swallow.
Ann I have to put the tomato feed bottle on the ground and put all my weight on it to open it and if you leave the top undone a bit and knock it over it leaks like mad. Mum used to have trouble with the bleach bottle and would always ask me to open it or leave it so she could do it but they are much harder now the plastic dos'nt seem to give as much as it used to.

Morning my sweet things, evening Kim,
We have cloud everywhere so I don't think we will be seeing the yellow stuff.
Ros is giving the kitchen a good going over, a lot of her orchids are finished blooming. She will move those to the front porch and no doubt replace them from Tesco The window sills are completely covered by them. They look nice but a bugger when you want to open a window while cooking.
I think it's an age thing with these bottle tops, I used to open them with no trouble, but with this arthritis in the hands it makes it more difficult..
Ros took me to the pub last night. The England team played like a load of "OLD WOMEN" They didn't deserve a draw. I don't know what they will do when they meet better teams. As they say "MUST DO BETTER". I think Ros will be going to the Charity shop later We have a least 10 cookery books that I have hardly opened. If I need anything I go on line, as do most people these days. There are also glass dishes and bowls that we never use, so they can go too.
I hope you all have a good day today, whatever you are doing. See you later.

Afternoon All,
That's the spirit Frank...........it's a good idea to have a sort out and make a bit of space!! I think apart from my Delia and Mrs Beeton books and a few cut out recipes. I don't really need the few other recipe books I've kept. Some have delicious, but far too fattening recipes for me. I chucked a lot out when I moved here. I need to scan the few I might use in the rest of the books, then I could get rid of those too. They'd be a lot easier to find than keep flipping all the pages to find them. I'll put it on my 'TO DO' list! :-D I think a lot of us ladies aren't as strong for getting the tops off either Frank!
It was sunny here earlier, but has clouded over now and we've just had a hailstorm. The cattle in the field at the back were hotfooting it to the trees when I just put the kettle on. OH has gone to the funeral of man he was pals with at his old footie club many years ago. Looks like he may be getting a soaking!
