Mel Fairy Godmother Report 30 Oct 2016 20:23

I loved Mr Potato Head and had many over my young years. Did anyone have a spud gun?

Member that game with the peas too and it caused a lot of giggling.

Jane that is just not on if Fitz was a surgical Emergency I would have thought he would have priority not be kept waiting two or three days. I can understand how Chris is so cross. Did Chris visit with you?

Evening All,

I hope that was the fox that was hanging around your chickens Mel. It will be good if you can let them out longer without the worry of him hanging about!

No it isn't good Fitz having to wait for his MRI scan till tomorrow Jane when they are aware he is an emergency. It isn't much good if GPs are on the ball getting him to hospital if they don't treat it as urgent when he gets there! If he does go to the LRI, at least they recently finished building a new multi storey carpark. Until they built that this year, if you had an appointment, the letter would tell you to allow 30 minutes extra for queuing to get in the carpark. :-S

I don't remember the pea game or the flour game, but then I never went to any parties, just once for tea to a friend when I was 8 years old. No-one came to visit at Christmas and we never went to visit anyone else. :-S I did have and loved Mr Potato Head though and my friend had pickup sticks we would play. My favourite game we played would be Blow Football on the dining table with straws and a ping pong ball. We'd laugh so much we couldn't blow!!

We saw a lovely garden today at Geddington? It was open just for today but the trees looked beautiful with the leaves such lovely colours. Then we called for lunch where we usually go on Sunday. We are usually there for 11.30am for when they start serving, but today with going out it was more like 2.00pm. Never again!!!! The place was packed and there was a huge long queue for the carvery and it was so noisy. We'll stick to being earlybirds when it's quiet in future!! :-)

O Ann we had blow football too. Little goals made of wire and was'nt there a little man you could move in the goal?

Jane Report 31 Oct 2016 07:36

Morning All

Foggy here !!!. It is so mild.I just heard it could be as high as 19 degs in places today.
Frank will have to get his shorts on :-D

Ann where in Geddington was this garden?.You should have popped in here for a coffee as it is only about 10 minutes away !!!!!!..

I have just had to light a scented candle as it smells of Pork Chops(last nights dinner). But now the smell of the candle is getting too much and making my throat all claggy.

I hope to hear something on my car today.I will give it until this afternoon and if no-one has rung I will have to ring them.

There is not a breath of wind and I can see this fog hanging about for ages .

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Oct 2016 09:43

Morning Jane and all,

Nice bright morning here with hazy white clouds on a blue sky and as still as a mill pond.

Have you heard anything about Fitz Jane?

Annx

Annx Report 31 Oct 2016 10:24

Morning All,

No fog here and it is nice and sunny at the moment. OH has gone to a training thing and I have to stay inside as they are redelivering that DNA test for OH that I missed on Friday. Also the window cleaner is due, although it is very hit and miss what day he comes now! Just when I could have done with being in the garden doing more pruning and tidying! :-S

It was Boughton House we went to Jane. It's normally only open twice a year I think, but OH spotted the garden was open for charity yesterday. It was all very well maintained with lovely grounds. I didn't realise we were that close to you, but thanks for the kind offer to have popped in although I would have rung you first. As it turned out with the clocks changing we were more than ready for lunch when we'd finished and OH was hurrying me around the last bit of the gardens!! lol Hopefully there will be more news about Fitz today and what they plan to do for him.

Better do some sorting in the study now........where does all the paper come from! I have started getting correspondence from the charities that MIL got mail from. I'm sure someone has sold on our address. :-S

Mel, they did have goalies in Blow Football didn't they. I remember all the scrabbling around on the floor looking for the ping pong ball.

Frank

Frank Report 31 Oct 2016 11:06

Good morning all, evening Kim,

Sorry to hear about your news Jane. Lets hope the sort Fitz out this morning.

Very quiet weekend here. All my life consists of at the moment is walking up and down the lounge and doing exercise, apart from that it's sitting reading or watching Tele. BORING.

Ros now has 15 bags of twigs, she will have to distribute them around the bins later today. Like a fool, I put our bins out yesterday, and wondered why no one else had put theirs out.!!! I think it's an age thing. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Pleased the dogs are doing well in training. Both Cas and Max are lovely dogs.

Ann, Like you we never had visitors at Christmas. Mum always said "its just another day"

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Oct 2016 11:57

Frank I suppose it was for your mum with all you children about.

Its glorious now and I am just about to put some washing on the line.

Oh is out on the digger tidying the bank between the back field and the west lawned area. When he was doing it the other day he found a wasps nest whilst digging and had to kill that lot before carrying on. There is also a BIG rabbit hole along there.

Annx

Annx Report 31 Oct 2016 12:25

That's just what my mum would say Frank! That or that 'this time tomorrow it would all be over!' It did put the dampers on things a bit. Yes, it must be boring for you at the moment, you'll have to start selling some things on ebay! I never seem to get round to things like that.

i have just bought a digital tyre pump online. OH said he would add it to my xmas presents which I am quite happy with. I think my main present may be an expensive camera, but I need to see if I can find one I want first. :-)

Mel, how come your OH didn't get stung treating the wasp nest? Does he wear protective stuff?

I'm fed up now as neither the window cleaner nor parcel have turned up yet! :-S OH is on his way home and I was hoping we could pop out when he got back but there's no chance now and it's beginning to feel like a wasted day as I can't settle to anything. :-S

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Oct 2016 15:10

Its always the same Ann when yuo are waiting for things to arrive.

No he dos'nt wear protective clothing he just stands a longish way away and sprays the nest with foam wasp killer. It shoots out about 5 or 6 foot. He did say at lunch time that there are still wasps about where the nest was as he has been there this morning with the digger.

Its still a lovely day and the washing is just about right for ironing so I think I shall get htat done and out the way.

Jane

Jane Report 31 Oct 2016 15:54

I thought it looked like Boughton House Ann. It is a lovely place isn't it.It has been a long time since I last went there.

15 bags of sticks!!!..I hope there is plenty of room in all your neighbours bins then Frank :-D :-D.

Hope the remaining wasps soon disappear Mel.I haven't seen any wasps for a while now but am finding a fair number of Ladybirds in the house. Some big flies too :-S

Thomas brought a mouse in earlier.Thankfully it was dead.I just managed to get it off him before he started eating it on the lounge carpet !!!!

I have been to Currys and ordered the new freezer :-D.It will be here on Wednesday sometime. All nice and straightforward .I have gone for the same again as Iam just hoping that we just had bad luck with this one. Also it is one that is suitable for being kept in cold conditions (like the Garage ).
My car is waiting for a new part to do with the Air Con. I will get it tomorrow and then take it back in when the part arrives. They could find nothing that would have caused the hot rubber smell.I know I couldn't have had the handbrake on as a warning light would have been on showing that.
Now I am still waiting for British Gas to come and sort the boiler and pump.We had a slot between 12 and 6..So just 2 hours left.

I haven't heard any news today so far on Fitz.

Anne hasn't posted for a few days.Hope she is ok.

Anne

Anne Report 31 Oct 2016 16:06

Good Afternoon All

I haven't been able to read all the posts yet but did see Jane's about Fitz, it does look really serious., I hope they can sort it out for him very soon

Amy has been back to the vets as she is still coughing which sometimes makes her sick but her appetite has improved, she also took some blood for testing, all the results were good apart from the liver function but she didn't seem too concerned about it. The other option was an x-ray but she would have to be sedated and because of her age there would be some degree of risk also the same would apply if she would need an op and we didn't want to take that risk. She now has a liquid medicine to take with her food all this came to £178.00

It's been such a lovely day here I spent all morning in the garden planting the last of the bulbs, sweeping up leaves and chopping off some branches of the big shrubs. We do get a lot of leaves from the many birch trees so its an ongoing job at the moment. My sister in law and her family went to Bournemouth for the weekend and it was so warm that they were able to go in the sea.

Becky has gone home after her stay, we also had one of Peter's brothers and his wife visit us on Thursday as they wanted to go to the crematorium where Peter's stone is.

Many that was a lovely photo of you and your grandaughters with the little hogs that Mel made I like the names they have given them.

MillymollyAmanda Report 31 Oct 2016 18:07

Evening all,

Another beautiful day here again this morning we sat in our short sleeved tops and had our coffee.
We had the gas and electric bill today ,the electric was read wrong ,Colin read it and we rang the number through ,they will send us another bill in about a week which should be £111 lighter !!!

I have seen a few wasps still about in the garden and they are now getting doppy and crawling , a few lady birds too this milder weather has brought them out again .

Colin had a letter from the doctors he has to have his arthritis review so two appointments made for that this morning as they need blood first so he can get the results when he has his second appointment, he also made his flu jab appointment too.
His bowel test kit came in the post so that needs doing some time .

Glad you got your freezer sorted and the car Jane but i wonder what the rubbery smell was ,i know the air con can get smelly when they need regassing but thst wouldn't be a rubber smell.

Well no Halloweeners so far , we never had any last year , we did hear fireworks last night , Max stood up and barked when he heard them so it did worry him for a while.

Glad Amy's eating better now Anne it was good her bloods came back ok ,lets hope this liquid medicine will be easier for her to swallow and she picks up a bit more .

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Oct 2016 18:13

Poor Amy I hope this new medicine helps her. It is a worry when a pet is sick thats why we don't have any anymore. I have enough with the chickens bantams and hogs. At least I have a rest during the winter with the hogs. My tiny one is getting bigger now so hopefully it will get htrough the winter ok.

Have booked our flu jabs for Wednesday afternoon at 3.20pm sso remind me please?

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Oct 2016 18:16

Mandy you got in just before me.

We had fireworks going off the other night and they sounded quite close but I could'nt see anything.

Jane

Jane Report 31 Oct 2016 18:40

Anne ,it has been a lovely day here too once the fog lifted by lunch time.
More expense at the vets!Poor Amy must be fed up now with all her trips there. I wonder what is causing her cough?.It is good she has a bit more of an appetite now and it must be much easier for you to give the liquid meds.
All the leaves are falling here now and our front drive is covered .The colours in the trees now are beautiful. I just love this time of year (just not liking fog).At least I don't have to drive in it like James does early in the mornings and again in the evenings coming home from work. It's not too bad at the moment.

Gas man came and was flummoxed. He couldn't find a problem ,and typically the noisy pump and switching off of the system didn't happen while he was here. So we just have to keep an eye on things for now. He did suggest that when the pump in the airing cupboard gets noisy to take a recording of the sound on the mobile phone.Which is a good idea ,because trying to explain a noise is very difficult.

We are desperate to know what has gone on today with Fitz.It is all so worrying as it is such a serious problem :-(

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 31 Oct 2016 18:41

I looked out to Mel but couldn't see any thing as it was so foggy.

We had lovely Bubble and Squeak tonight with cold chicken from yesterday ,i always do more veg than we need in the hope there will be enough left for squeaky bubble :-D

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 31 Oct 2016 18:53

What a good idea recording the noise Jane it is hard to explain what a noise sounds like .
We have taken photos of wiring and there's lots that go into the sky box and tele ,when we moved the tele onto the new tele table it was good to see where all the wires needed to go .

Anyone going to watch Dark Angel tonight ? the actress who played Anna Bates in Downton is in it , she murders quite a few people !!!

Annx

Annx Report 31 Oct 2016 19:40

Well, the window cleaner never came. OH said it would be just our luck to find trick or treaters on the doorstep if we answered the door much later......... and then there was a knock at the door!! As soon as OH answered the delivery man said 'TRICK or TREAT'. lol. Apparently the reason he is so late is that no-one is answering the door to him tonight, thinking it is trick or treaters. :-S It must be annoying to have to work longer hours because of it. :-0 He was an asian chap too so I'm not sure how into Halloween he would be. I know some colleagues that I worked with celebrated EVERYTHING though.

Poor Amy, I hope her cough starts to get better soon. It must be worrying for you with her being an old girl. Hopefully she hasn't noticed the medicine in her food! The tests and treatments are expensive aren't they! :-0

It's good you will soon have your new freezer installed Jane and you can get your food back from the neighbour.

So the aircon part is nothing to do with the smell? Mind you, yours is on a lot like mine so you wouldn't normally expect a smell problem with that. Is it a diesel or a petrol model, only you can get a rubbery smell from the engine compartment on the diesel if it only does short runs? The particulate filter needs to get hot enough to burn off the residues, so a bit longer run every few weeks, revving it a bit higher through the gears should do the trick if that is the cause. If it is a diesel, try lifting the bonnet when you get home after a trip out and see if the smell is from the engine. Particle filters are fairly recent because of emission laws so it is a fairly new problem. All engines benefit from a bit longer regular run to get them hot like this to be honest.

Morning all,

Pinch and a punch for the first of the month. White Rabbits and all that.

Misty moisty morning here today but hte suns trying to break through.

Going shopping a bit earlier today as I don't like these dark evenings already and they have only just started. I have to do al the chickens and let the banties out for a stretch and they won't come out if its getting dark.
