Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Nov 2016 09:03

Morning all and Frank,

I had a much better nights sleep last night after taking another paracetamol and only arose once for the bathroom then back into bed and fell asleep right away.

Remember remember the 5th of November gunpowder treason and plot.

Oh's birthday tomorrow. I have offered to buy him one of those all singing all dancing watches that does all the things like blood pressure and paces you take in a day. It also tells the time!! He dos'nt know if he wants one or not. I have this every year at his birthday and Christmas which he hates.

Frank

Frank Report 5 Nov 2016 10:44

Morning Mel, and all, evening Kim,

Got back to bed about 3.00 am. Iffy sort of night and was awake and up by 8.00 am.

I have just bought a pair of drop DIAMOND ear rings for Ros for Christmas. They will be here next week, so must hide them away from prying eyes.

Have you heard how Fitz is this morning Jane.?? I trust he won't be rushed back to hospital. I can't believe they sent him home.

Mel, I think it's a MAN THING. I always say when asked what do you want for your Birthday/Christmas. I don't need anything. Which is quite true..

I had better post this as the screen keeps going dull then bright.

Morning All,

Those pains sound awful Frank. I was awake in the early hours like you and then there was such a racket that started up before 8.00am. The digger was outside our windows digging the road up, but they hadn't bothered to let us know! They were working at the top of the close yesterday but seem to have left the middle and are now starting at the bottom near us!! OH went out and had a word with them and they have no boards with them like the last people did, so we had to hurry out and move both our cars to the top of the close. To top it all when we drove around the bend in the close to the top, there in front of us was a huge pile of rubbish across the road that had been fly tipped during the night!! :-S I bet someone had gone to the tip a quarter of a mile away, found it closed and decided to dump the rubbish rather than take it home. It's out of view at the top of the close with a tall hedge one side and a high fence the other. There'll be no peace here today to get on with anything with all the digger noise going on so I shall drive over to a garden centre that has good Christmas displays and is along the A5. OH is ok as he's off to a footie match. He'll be seeing a pal of his who lives in the same road in Hinckley where the 2 children and father were killed and the mother is in hospital.

It's a shame the lipstick didn't suit you Mel, but I know what you mean as I'm often disappointed with those coral shades yet I like them so much and wear tops in the same colour. Might a thin coat over another shade of lipstick you have work better? I have done that before and it still stays put quite well over an ordinary lipstick. If you try another shade, look for the 'testers' on the stand that you can try before you buy. It sounds like you may feel a bit better today after sleeping well last night.

Men can be tricky to buy for can't they. At Christmas OH always wants a Non League Football Directory and a Matt Cartoon book. He usually gives me a list of anything else he would like and that is often a few books so quite easy. He has wanted something to play his old records on for quite a while, but I didn't really want another bulky music centre in the lounge as they get so dusty and he has a neat CD player for most music now. I had wondered about those record players that are in a small suitcase that you can pack away easily, but didn't mention it as I thought he wouldn't like them. Well, a few weeks ago he spotted one in a shop and said one of those would do nicely, so that looks like another present sorted! I bet if I had suggested it though he wouldn't have been so keen!! lol

I'd better go and get ready to go now or I'll need some ear muffs on with all the noise going on.

Jane Report 5 Nov 2016 13:34

Afternoon All

Hope you painful leg settles down Frank. Do you think you might have been lying awkwardly in bed that caused the pain to shoot down to your foot, like maybe something pressing on a nerve?

Ann,that is disgusting someone fly tipping right by you. Honestly I can't believe some people. They wouldn't be happy if they had the same thing happen where they live I am sure :-S I hope the diggers etc don't work on Sundays too.You need to have at least one peaceful day.I am glad you are feeling a bit better today Mel.It sounds like you are now over the worst.

I rang Fitz just now.....Poor thing has been sick and had the trots..I reckon it is a reaction to the anaesthetic and all the hoo ha in getting home last night. It was far too soon for him to be sent home.So he is feeling very sorry for himself today :-(..He is fretting about the fact he needs to answer lots of emails and phone calls..I said that can all wait !!!.Maybe if he is feeling a bit more human tomorrow he could make a start..I think he is going to be the kind of patient who will try and run before he can walk :-S. I will pop down to see him on Monday as he will be on his own ALL DAY .

The sun is so bright I have had to draw the curtains this end of the room so I can see the screen on the laptop. Thomas is stretched out the other end of the room in a lovely patch of sun.Chris has been tackling a lot of Ivy this morning down the garden.Filled the grey bin and is now going to have a bonfire.

Tesco was heaving this morning .I think there are lots of bargains so people were making the most of buying Xmas Presents.I couldn't wait to get out of there. My goodness there were some right grumpy folk there :-S

Talking of lipsticks... I have so many that I have bought thinking they were just the right colour for me .But they just didn't look the same once on my lips. I really need to bin a whole lot. I did buy a new nail varnish this morning ,and I know that it is just the right colour :-) Might do myself a bit of a manicure this afternoon :-D

Ann I am not sure I have heard of that dreadful accident with the 2 children and Father being killed. When was this? How terribly sad, and now the Mum will recover but not have her children or husband :-( :-(.....Life is so cruel sometimes.

I hope our Anne is ok . It can take a long time to get over the loss of a loved pet. Some people don't understand this and just think 'oh it was just a dog/cat'..But they are part of the family .I still feel sad when I think of my dear old Chester. He was such a bonkers character and often drove me to despair .But I loved him to bits :-D.....I think if he had been a little boy he would have been the disruptive one in the classroom LOL

I think I might get the Woodburner going.I can hear Chris chopping logs ready to bring the next lot in to the garage. We always have 2 big baskets ready to use.

Anyone having fireworks or going to fireworks do tonight? There was a queue of people in Tesco at the firework stand earlier. I am one who just likes to watch fireworks from indoors. They scare the pants off me if I am too close to them. That is from my childhood when one landed on me... I can do Sparklers though :-D :-D

MEL do I stop putting hog food out now I think our friend has gone into hibernation?
I don't want to put it out just to feed the mice !!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Nov 2016 16:21

I am still seeing mine eating in the garden at night so mine hav'nt gone to sleep yet. It is still really too warm for them to hibernate, also I have seen ours out when there is frost on the ground. I usually stop feeding in December but I have a big outside light so I can see whats going on.

Done the church flowers. Oh said I had an hour to do and he was going to turn the heating on. Of course it took me a lot longer. I have to clear all the old flowers away first and sort out what can be used again as there are four vases to do. Two on the alter which I try to do the same and then one BIG thing on a stand which takes bunches of flowers and the porch one which I left as it did'nt look too bad and I had used everything I took down there plus some of the old flowers.

I took two of the things I have been making down the shop to show Ann the shop lady as she makes things and always shows me. A lady customer saw them and wanted them for her two grandchildren. She paid me for them and I am to drop them off at the shop in the week for her to pick up on Saturday. I am going to put little loops on hers so they can go on the Christmas tree. Keeping you in suspense! I like doing that........he he he :-D

Yes I do feel better today and hav'nt been blowing my nose as much as yesterday. I nearly went through a whole plenty roll yesterday.

Now I am going to crack some more nuts!!!!!! There's a clue there somewhere........ ;-)

Mel ,I am just going by the lack of poo on the patio. There has been no fresh poo for 2 days now.But food is still going, and there is mice poo in the dish.I have just enough hog food left for tonight.I think if there are no more fresh deposits tomorrow then I won't put any more out...The thing is I don't want to encourge MORE mice to the garden (what with Thomas's appetite for MEECE) !!!!! :-S

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Nov 2016 17:35

I know what you mean Jane but there are probably thousands of mice around anyway.

I have just fed my hogs and shut the chickens in and the blimmin big girls woudl'nt go in their house. I looked through the door and there was a feeding trough just in the doorway and by this time it was quite dark and they would'nt go in. I had to shine a torch in the house and open the big door. then they could'nt see the perches so muggins has to stand there like a lemon shining the torch on the perches. It took me ages to get them settled.

Jane

Jane Report 5 Nov 2016 18:33

LOL Mel at least they are all now tucked up for the night :-D
Just gone down the garden with my torch with the battery nearly flat to put the dish down under the hedge for Mr Squitty and the mice..Lots of bangs going off now.
Thomas was sat looking at the back door in hope of being let out.He is now in huff giving me evils lol sitting up on his bed.But I will not be letting him out again tonight.
It is a shame I can't tell him why. He is in lock down .

Lamb Shanks for us 2 tonight. They are beginning to smell really good in the oven.
These are the Tesco finest ones that are on a bed of Carrots,Parsnips,Red Onions and Red Currant Gravy. Yum Yum. Just doing new Potatoes and Peas to go with.

WE have the usual fillet steaks with chips for oh rosti for me and tenderstream brocc mushrooms and tomatoes and onions and onion rings for oh.

Its his birthday tomorrow and still he dos'nt know what he wants. I bought him his filter lid last year or was that the year before?? At least we have a cotton robe for him now that fits!! I had an awful job getting one in 4XL.

A whistler just went off outside it must be the boys next door.

Evening all,

Well it's been a miserable day here i don't think it's stopped raining all day .

Fireworks going off here now so it must have stopped raining ,Max keeps lifting his head but he isn't taking to much notice .
I didn't like the Jumping Jack fireworks you never knew which way they would jump, i bet they don't have them now with health and safety !!!

Glad your feeling a little better today Mel , now i wonder what the 'sweet ' things can be ? I'll have a guess at little Hazelnut Mice ?

Sons birthday tomorrow he will be thirty nine ,where have the years gone .

Now going to watch the dancing .

Annx Report 5 Nov 2016 19:03

Caught 2 more mice in the garage last night and 1 this morning. We seem to be getting them before they get up to the loft now......well I hope so!

This afternoon when I was tootling along the A5 I noticed a man behind me in a 4x4 holding his hand with his mobile phone in at the top of the steering wheel. At first I thought he was filming my car, but he was texting on his phone as he drove along. Several times when I had to stop he only seemed to see me at the last minute!! I'd have been so cross if he'd run into me. I just managed to squeeze into our drive when I got back and the men and digger had gone. I do hope they don't work Sundays!!!!!!!! "After noise all day, it is whizz bangs now!!

Fitz seems to be suffering one thing after the other. I hope his tum will settle down now. At least his wife doesn't work far away and could get home quickly on Monday if needs be. She also knows you will be popping in to see him and I expect Fitz would have said if he was worried about being left as he doesn't strike me he is a shrinking violet!!! lol. As long as he keeps his phone with him like you told him to and doesn't try to do anything he shouldn't. I just had a thought.......do nurses have to hand their uniforms back when they leave?

That's good Max isn't too fussed about the noise Mandy. At least these days you can try to get a puppy gradually used to the noise by playing Youtube firework videos softly at first if they are anxious.

I hated catherine wheels as they seemed to fly off the pin in the fence as well as jumping jacks. I had one of those aeroplane fireworks fly under my arm as a child and it burned all through my coat. I'm afraid I'd ban the lot except for organised displays if it was left to me. It would save a lot of work for A&E departments too. In the 70s I had a firework pushed through the letterbox. Luckily we were at home. How can people who say they love animals and hate cruelty to them go outside and let them off? :-S

Jane

Jane Report 5 Nov 2016 20:03

Ann ,you mentioned the aeroplane firework. That is the one that hit me when I was a child !!!!! A Catherine Wheel a few years ago flew off its pin at Wicksteed Park and hit some children.2 boys were badly burned and spent a long time in hospital and if I remember correctly had to have skin grafts .There was a huge investigation and there were no more Firework Displays at the park for a couple of years.

I am loving Strictly :-D. Now it is X Factor :-D

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Nov 2016 21:20

We watched Tony Robinson on one of his walks. I find those interesting. I do miss Time Team since Mick Aston died.

I member those aeroplane fireworks. We called the jumping jacks Jumping Crackers. You could get big ones and little ones. I did'nt like those as a child.

Annx

Annx Report 5 Nov 2016 22:08

Those rockets didn't always go UP did they! Especially when the milk bottle fell over!! I liked the fireworks with names like Golden Rain or Volcano that had pretty colours. I also liked those coloured matches in red and green.

Jane the family at Hinckley have been on the news. OH's pal lives the other side of the road diagonally opposite. According to the news the woman ran out with blood on her and was taken to hospital and they found the man and children inside dead. The man had been stabbed in the stomach. Goodness knows what had happened but one person heard screams and thought it was Halloween antics.

I'm off to bed now to watch Strictly I recorded. :-)

Morning all

Sunny and dry here today but quite windy and very cold.

That was quick sending Fitz home Jane, hope he manages okay. Sorry to hear he's not had a good start to his homecoming, hope he feels better soon. I'm sure he'll be pleased to see you as it sounds as though he won't be able to get out for a while. You're right his phone calls and emails can wait until he feels up to it.

So you're off to the match on Tuesday Frank? It's good that you can have a seat you can get to easily, it sounds like you'll have a good view too ;-)
Yes I'm the baby of the family lol.

Pleased to hear Colin's pain has eased a bit Mandy, you must both be relived as it does sound like a pulled muscle. Hope everything goes okay with the x-ray. At least he didn't have to wait two weeks, just a few days then he'll know what's what.

It's good you are starting to feel a bit better now Mel. What are you making, I'm rubbish at guessing lol? Don't over do it though you don't want to make yourself ill again before you've got over this bug properly.
Happy birthday to your OH <3 Hope he has a nice day.

Happy birthday to your son too Mandy.

Sorry to hear of all the noise and chaos in your close Ann, you must be getting really fed up of it now. Let's hope they don't work on a Sunday so you can both have at least one days peace and quiet. How awful having someone fly tipping, maybe you could give the council a call to see if they will take it away, they may even keep an eye out to catch who did it. Let's hope so, so it doesn't happen again.
The record player sound just the thing for your OH. You did make me smile when you said if you had mentioned it he probably wouldn't of wanted it......MEN ;-) My OH is just the same.

Sandra enjoyed the fireworks the other night, it poured with rain but OH had a massive umbrella in the boot which at least six people could stand under so we kept nice and dry we also stood near the bonfire and with all the people standing around us we were quite warm :-)

Because of all the rain some of the fireworks were damp and wouldn't light, so after about 10 minutes it went silent, most of the people left thinking it was over but luckily for us and a few other people we stayed put and about 15 minutes later they must of dried them out enough to light them and we had another half an hour of fireworks which were better than the first lot. We did start to feel the cold a bit though with there not being many people around and the bonfire was going out too, but we really enjoyed the evening and came home to a lovely warm bungalow as I'd put the heating on before we went out.

Last night there were lots of fireworks but we couldn't see them all just heard the noise. Apparently there were a few firework displays on around the Wirral, we would of gone to one but our car broke down so mum towed the car back for us. Poor OH has had to walk to work this morning but thinks it's the starter motor which he is hoping to fix tomorrow when he's off work if he can get hold of the part. I hope he manages to get it fixed before Thursday as we are hoping to take Sandra out to a Christmas event at a garden centre nearby which we go to every year. They have carol singers and everywhere is full of Christmas lights and trees, they even have a snow machine at the door which Sandra loves and a glass of mulled wine which of course I like ;-) ;-) Mum told me a book I'm after for Sandra is there so I hope the car is fixed so we can go......fingers crossed it happens.

Morning Gill and all,

Happy birthday to Mandy's son hope you have a great day.

Oh is doing his daily challenge at the moment, The washing up in the morning.

Lovely sunny day here but it looks cold out there as I hav'nt ventured out yet to feed the birds.

Gill hope oh can fix the car and you can get to the garden centre so Sandra dos'nt miss the Christmas Event. Pleased you enjoyed the fireworks the other night.

I really want to wash my hair but I don't think oh will let me yet with this cold and cough.

The last of the series tonight of Poldark........boo hoo its about one of the only things I have been looking forward too lately.

Hope our Liz is ok as we hav'nt heard from her for a while. Hello to Liz ~~~~~~~

Still saw my hogs last night Jane.

Gill have you seen Rosie lately??

Gillx Report 6 Nov 2016 11:36

Hi Mel,
Yes we see a lot of Rosie now the neighbour next door but one has moved, she must of fed her too, so now she's not around Rosie is here most days, sometimes three times a day and now there are a few more squirrels mulling around too, although they don't come up to us like Rose does. I've noticed a male squirrel climbing down the screening I put up, using it like a ladder to get into our garden, it's really funny to watch. Hope he doesn't damage the screening though. I should imagine he doesn't weigh much so hopefully it won't be a problem.

I bought five large plants last month and have noticed the robins in and out of them so I have decided to try and rig up the bird house with the camera in, we bought a few years ago, we can run the cable along the screening and bring it over the gate we've had put in at the side of the bungalow, it's right at the side of the room Sandra watches her TV so it'll be nice to connect it to her TV then she can watch the birds if they use it next spring. We're also thinking of buying a bird bath as Sandra loved watching the birds in the neighbours garden. She can't see it anymore as we have put a six foot fence up at the bottom of the garden, so it'll be nice for her to have one of her own, all this will be done nearer springtime when the weather warms up a bit. We have noticed the squirrels running along that fence so I said to Sandra when the weather warms up next year she could put a chair down there and watch the squirrels going over her head, so long as she sits quietly they shouldn't notice her there.

She helped me put the fence up as a surprise for OH and when we were in the middle of it a squirrel came past us, when he noticed us he stopped, he was so close Sandra said she could of tickled his tummy. It made her day and she couldn't wait to tell her dad <3

Yes, I noticed Liz hadn't been on here too Mel, hope everything is okay. Thinking of you Liz <3

I'm going to have to start thinking of what to buy OH for Christmas, I've bought Sandra a few things but only some Brut so far for OH, which is more of a stocking filler than a present.
Will have to put my thinking cap on, me thinks :-D

How is Fitz today Jane, hope he's feeling a little better now.
