Morning Mel didn't see you there. I think you might be right and OH has probably caught something from the surgery, mind you I had a sore throat the other day so maybe he caught it off me. Have fun with your wreaths and keep warm if you can <3

Gillx Report 4 Dec 2016 11:04

Shelf's done, all I needed was some better screws and a bit of cheating and it worked. I took the shelf away after making some small holes through the brackets with a bradawl then screwed the new screws in part way took them out put the shelf in place and re-screwed the screws back in. Because I'd already started the screws off I was able to screw them in properly with my left hand and it only took a few minutes.

OH and Sandra are catching up with their celeb jungle programme, so I'm going to get a COT and put everything back in the wardrobe....well almost everything there are a few things I'm going to take to the charity shop. On a positive I found a handbag I'd been looking for that needed a new zip putting in so I'll see if I have one the right size and do that later. I'm so pleased I managed to sort the shelf out otherwise OH would of insisted he did it which is a big NO NO I'd rather do without than chance him getting hurt.

Frank Report 4 Dec 2016 11:39

Good morning my sweet peas, evening Kim,

Another terrible night, I think the bruising from my fall last week is coming out inside my rib cage, it hurts whenever I breath and try turning in bed. The knee is unrelenting with the continual pain. I am cheesed of to the eye balls with it.

A bit of good news NOW. Last night 5.30 pm the phone rang. It was the hospital regarding my cataract operation. I have to go for my pre-op assessment on the 14th December. and the operation is on the 20th January 2017. That's what I call good service.

Ros put the outside lights up yesterday evening, only to find that parts of it wasn't working. She had checked them on the carpet in the lounge and they all worked. When we went for the takeaway last night she popped into a new store that has opened in Towcester. She got a box of lights that I call "CURTAIN LIGHTS" (they hang down in groups) for £20.00 instead of rrp of £50.00. So she will be putting those up shortly.

Hope that everyone who has colds and Ills are feeling better this morning. By the way Ros has a SORE THROAT. So I might get a quiet day today ;-) ;-) ;-)

Very still, sunny morning here, We did wake to a very heavy frost, but that's all gone now.

See you soon.

Morning All

Gill,be careful in that wardrobe. You mind find yourself in Narnia :-D :-D.Those plastic thingies that hold the shelves aren't so strong sometimes.Mind you you sound like me and have had far too much on one shelf. I stuff so much in sometimes and then can't find anything..Like your handbag :-)

Oh no more sore throats :-S. It is certainly doing the rounds now. I hope that your OH's and Ros's don't turn into a horrible cold and cough.

That is great news about your Cataract op Frank..Just need to get another appointment with your surgeon to get your knee checked out. Your sore rib sounds like mine ,but I think mine is just from sneezing so much and now coughing :-S.
That was a brilliant bargain Ros got on those lights.

I have a huge joint of Beef cooking at the moment and i can only just about smell it.So I reckon I won't be able to taste much :-(..It is almost 2 kilos so it is Roast today, Mash and Beef tomorrow and what is left I will slice and freeze in gravy.

The sky is totally blue with no cloud at all.It is lovely, but I have had to pull the curtains as I can't see a blooming thing. Chris has been i the garden all morning doing this and that and having a bonfire.Thomas is sunning himself in the summerhouse after sitting looking in the oven for ages at the Beef LOL..I told him he will have to wait for his bit later.
I nipped to Tesco and have posted all my cards in the massive post box there. So they have all gone now :-).Just have hand delivered ones left. Tesco was heaving .Everone was looking for small trolleys .I managed to get one of someone who had just put their shopping in the car. They have the toys 3 for 2 ,,like you had in your Tesco Mandy.
I did have to have a grin when I got back to my car.The one next to me was advertising Dog Training Sessions....and it was called "Watch my Chops" :-D :-D

I think it will be either Adam or Scarlett to win the Jungle .I would love it to be Scarlett.
I do quite fancy Joel though ;-)..Have no idea who he is lol but there is something rather sexy about him :-D

Modus is so good isn't it Liz. I am getting used to Sub Tittles now after years of refusing to watch anything with them. It was watching the Icelandic one last year that has me hooked.I think that was called Stranded or something like that.I think you watched that one.

I have seen so many Holly Trees in peoples gardens this morning absolutely covered in Berries !!!!!! Hard Winter coming???

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 4 Dec 2016 13:03

Well I WIsh the holly round here was covered in berries too.

Gill I was going to suggest a bradle but when I read more posts I see you used one.

No can't be doing with subtitles.

I am just about to put some washing on the line and then get the big breakfast.

Laughed at "Watch My Chops" Jane. :-D :-D :-D

The sky here is blue with whispy white clouds and plenty of sunshine but a very cold easterlyish wind. I fed all the wild birds and also had 5 females and Phil pheasent who seemed to have empty legs as they had three lots of corn and some pellets. Everything seems to knows where to come for a good feast round here. First it was Jenny Wren and all the Robbies fighting over the mealworms then the blackbird turned up and Dennis Dunnock and his wife Dot. Thats not to mention all the Blue Tits and Marsh tits on the feeder outside the kitchen window. Hav'nt seen the Long Tailed Tits today yet but they sometimes leave it till the afternoon.

Frank that was a bargain for those lights. I wanted those at one point but the bungalow is so long I would have needed loads of sets.

Washing machine has stopped so I must put that out on the line.

Yes it is good Jane and had us on the edge of our chairs!! We watched The Bridge last year which was brilliant, and two or three others. I'm sure you won't be surprised to know that the Jungle is not for us!! In fact we'd pay not to watch it!! Same goes for Strictly, X factor (really hate it!!) Soaps ditto!!!
We're having Beef for lunch too! nice and rare, roast spuds, home Brussels and home made Yorkshire puddings! smells delicious! Lovely sunny day too! Better get on !!

Jane

Jane Report 4 Dec 2016 14:40

Mel ,will your washing dry going out so late in the day? It wouldn't here. I have a day of no washing, but there is pile of shirts waiting to be ironed :-S..As long as James has a clean shirt for tomorrow everything else can wait :-D.I think my nose would drip over the ironing board :-S

Liz ,I thought you might have enjoyed Strictly . That is the only programme like that that Chris watches(I am surprised he even watches that )but he does enjoy it.
He is also a bit of a sneaky watcher with Eastenders(but wouldn't admit it LOL )

What do Marsh Tits look like Mel?. I don't think I have any here. No long Tailed Tits either at the moment.I can hear Pheasants not too far way. Also I keep hearing the Munjac 'barking' very close by at night.I think it mist be in next doors garden.

I think in XF I would like Saara Alto (sp) to win.She has an amazing voice.

Isn't "Watch my Chops" a brilliant name Mel
:-D :-D..It just made me grin when I saw it.

Chris is upstairs pruning his beard....Bet he doesn't rinse the sink out properly :-S :-S

Afternoon you lot !!!,,

Have prepared all the Veg, made the cheese sauce and Yorkshire pudding. Roast Beef for us too. There is always left overs for Monday evening with more vegetables, mash or roast.

The new lights are up and have been checked and working, The timer should bring them on around 4.00 pm until 11.00 pm.

Ros has just been in the garden to put some wallflowers in. She came in and put her hands on my neck. FREEZING . It certainly made me jump.

I see she is putting more lights up on the inside of the window, I WONDER WHERE THEY CAME FROM ??? She is a little bugger, but I love her. !!!

I wAS CONSIDERING GROWING A BEARD FOR cHRISTMAS, BUT, that was soon discarded when madam said "you will look stupid" (sorry about CAPS)

Gill the trouble with the wood they build furniture today is , it's made of wood chip and very difficult to get screws into it. You might need to change the height of your shelves and re-screw into the new spot. GOOD LUCK.

I can just see Thomas looking at the oven thinking "AM I GOING TO GET ANY OF THAT" our cats and dogs were exactly the same. I remember one Sunday Harvey bought a new girlfriend home for Sunday lunch. We were all sat round the table when "PENNY" our Black Poodle decided to help herself to the meat on the girlfriends plate, and just jumped on her lap and took it. !!! I won't repeat what was said that day !!!

Very cold still afternoon out there now, Sun trying to show it's face, but with no great success, before the evening clouds take over. I expect it will be another cold night.

I hope the young lass wins the Jungle and SAARA with the X factor. She has a beautiful voice. !!!

No Jane, fraid not! I have tried! but it's not for me and OH actively hates it! I As for EastcEnders!! I was never a fan of pop music even as a teenager much preferring folk music, (OH used play the guitar and we'd sing folk songs together when we were young) and and classical. Same with entertainment, we both much prefer serious stuff. Think this is why we still get along reasonably well, we do like the same things.
Our lunch was absolutely delicious! No more cooking for us today!!

Jane

Jane Report 4 Dec 2016 17:09

Frank I love it when Chris puts his cold hands on my neck :-D.My hands are never cold
even on the coldest of days.
Can't see you with a beard !!!! I think Ros is right :-D

Liz ,Chris and I are so different in lots of ways.We both have our own likes and dislikes in all sorts of things.. Somehow it works LOL and still working nearly 35 yrs on.We must be doing something right. :-D You would think we were mismatched really with him being a Doctor and me leaving school at just 16.Hit the right note maybe :-D :-D...Not that we don't have our ups and downs and disagreements .There are plenty of them :-)All part and parcel of marriage :-D Gritted teeth and all that LOL

magpie Report 4 Dec 2016 17:25

I think different things work for different people, it all just depends! 35 years?!! Wait till it's 53!!!!
Mel, don't forget it's My mother and other Strangers tonight! I think it's only you and me who watch it!!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 4 Dec 2016 17:35

Love the pruning of Chris's beard. Oh does that too. Trims his beard and leaves whiskers all around the bowl. I must admit he does move the soap and my flannel onto the windowsill befoe he soes it too.

Oh likes Strickly and we usually have it on and he will even watch a bit of the jungle. I think he too is a secret watcher of Eatenders as he used to have to watch it to tell mum what was going on or explain things to her.

We watch X Factor because he likes it and I just go along with it and wait till he is in bed and watch what I want and it suits me that way without oh giving comments and me missing things that are said. Ann knows what I mean about that. I like Matt and Saara but have gone off the three boys something about 5 after midnight?

Annx

Annx Report 4 Dec 2016 17:45

Afternoon All,

Well, I'm with Mel and Gill on the subject of subtitles for just the same reason. I watched 2 episodes of Modus, but, much as psychological thrillers are just my COT, I didn't find it gripping as I was spending too much time reading the subtitles!! It really annoys me too when they speak about a minute and a tiny, short sentence appears........really, all that talking for 3 or 4 words........what about what else were they saying?? lol. :-S

I record the odd daytime things I want to see and watch them at night. I like Strictly for the dancing and those fabulous dresses, but OH lost interest in it after the first series. OH watches more sport than me and he loves anything political or historical, but I only like some of those things. He's really looking forward to the new Lucy Worsley prog about Henry V111. I like psychological thrillers, anything to do with palaentology, things about people in the past, medical things, lots on Nat Geo and craft things like Kirstie. I watch a couple of soaps, but never liked Eastenders. I think it's good to watch things in different rooms and one room away is hardly lonely........I usually find it's good to have the peace and quiet.

Oh Oh, he's just come and told me he would like a new Thomas Hardy book that's just come out as one of his Christmas presents! Better get it ordered.

Well done Gill on mending the wardrobe shelf! It's best as you said that your hubby didn't attempt it. He needs to get his back healing up quickly. I hope it's less sore today. It will be great for you to have him home over Christmas this year.

I bet little Katie is excited and looking forward to her Christmas play Mandy. I'm not sure how many of the trees will be decorated at the church, but they were on the News on tv last year. I think if we manage to clear the garage out next year we'll find room for our Xmas decs in there if we can, especially as we aren't catching many mice in there now. You did right keeping Colin away from ladders for now!

Oh Frank your poor knee sounds in a miserable state! I do feel for you as it must really get you down. Good news about your cataract though and quick service so that's a good thing. Not another bad throat! I hope Ros doesn't give it to you.

Jane that must have been a treat seeing that episode of the Coroner and it bringing all those memories back. It sounds like Thomas is now preferring the sofa to his own bed! lol. Maybe it's warmer up higher and away from any slight draught there might be. I had a chuckle at 'Watch my Chops. We often see a van in the village that advertises dog walking among other dog related services. The sign on the side of it says 'Rover and Out' which always makes me smile. :-)

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 4 Dec 2016 19:02

O Ann thats another good one which also made me laugh :-D :-D :-D

Well I have a lovely backache which I have had for a few days and it dos'nt seem any better after I get up in the morning. I may have to visit the docs. I'm hoping its the after effects of that cold I had for 4 weeks as I am still sneezing and coughing. Or maybe a chest infection. Perhaps I should'nt have had the flu jab so soon after I thought my cold was gone.

I have sone some fluffy stuff enough to do three rings so only ivy bunches to make holly with berries flowers cones and bows.

Going to get the cheese and biccies now. Iv'e washed the grapes and they are ready and got out the pickles and chutney, the plates and knives and the walnuts so its only really to take the lid off the biccies and get the cheese out .

We're looking forward to some of those progs that your OH likes Ann. We too find the past fascinating and the Nat geographic progs are fantastic. We always make an effort not to miss a chance to watch things like that. Sorry, I wouldn't like watching different TV in separate rooms! Neither of us would, it would seem very weird! I expect its what you're used to though. My parents did everything together, and we seem the same.
Sons partner has made us a lovely Christmas Cake, beautifully decorated. He bought it over on Thursday. I was really touched, she's such a kind thoughtful lady. He's a lucky chap to have her!

Annx

Annx Report 4 Dec 2016 19:49

Liz, OH's parents did everything together and OH said being in each other's pockets like that would drive him mad and I know it would me too! Besides all the chatting, that Mel suffers from too, OH likes to scan the paper while he watches tv but all that rustling could get very irritating as he never goes through his paper page by page, he flicks through speed reading and then backtracks to look in more depth. There isn't much that I would class as weird, couples just adapt to each other in ways that suit them both. Better to to do that than one always giving in to what the other wants.

magpie

magpie Report 4 Dec 2016 21:01

Well what suits one couple doesn't suit another. I must say I would find interruptions while watching TV very trying! But it's not something that's an issue here! We don't feel at all that we're in each others pockets, we just enjoy each others company, particularly now we're older - simple as that I suppose.

Morning all, Evening Kim,

Have been to bed and have got up again. The knee feels like someone has a strap around it and is pulling it tighter and tighter. I have streached it down the side on the bed but it doesn't seem to help.

Ros is watching her Jewellery programme, Once she decides to go to bed I will pour myself a large scotch, and try to relax in the armchair.

My old dad came into my mind while lying awake, and I can'y get him out of my mind.

Regarding T.V. I tend to let things go over my head. I know she likes her soaps, so I go along with them. During the day (AFTERNOONS) I have what I want to watch. Nat. Geo, Police programmes, Customs in Australia I am in to most crime series.

I see the young girl won the JUNGLE. I was so pleased that ADAM didn't win. He seemed to play to the camera's, and I didn't take to him. Joel was a nice down to earth sort of bloke, and didn't cause any upsets in thr camp, A good runner up.

Regarding X Factor I think for quality SAARA ALTO stands a good chance of winning, but Emmy could still be a contender.

Madam has still got her sore throat, I have told her to take lem sips before she goes to bed, but we will see.

I haven't sent cards to my SIL Teds wife or her SON. If they couldn't be bothered to let me know he was dead. Then they can sing for a card from me. !!! I can only be crossed once by anyone, then they see the other side of me. If one arrives from them, I will write on it "RETURN TO SENDER" and put it in the post box..

Still wide awake and it's 1.00 am and I have taken my sleeper. So had better be careful getting back to bed, I don't want another fall.!!!

See you in the morning, hope you sleep tight.

Jane

Jane Report 5 Dec 2016 06:33

Morning !!!!

Well I am up having a cuppa .Just taken Chris one with a couple of Paracetamol..He has the throat and lurgy now :-S..Says it is all my fault lol.
So I will have to cancel his dental appointment and cancel Fitz coming for lunch.Maybe I can take the Pizza down to his.I shall see.
Thomas has just gone out and I think it looks like it could be a bit foggy. Not that I had the back door open long as it is freezing !!!

I hope everyone else is still tucked up nicely in bed . Frank,I am hoping too you finally got back to bed and are still fast asleep :-D
