Morning all
Bad nights sleep, so decided to get up.
Going to check out FMP again today, I spent ages trying to find my great grandmother yesterday and couldn't find her anywhere, so I'm hoping today will be better. Apparently she came over from America to England when she was 12 with her aunty but can I find them?????? :-( :-( I've even tried looking for her aunty although I've only got a name and no other details for her and still I had no luck. Other people have found her but I'm having no luck at all. I thought she came over here when she was 8 so tried that and again no luck. I guess I'll just have to keep trying.
I must be doing something wrong :-S :-S :-S :-S :-S
Going to have a cuppa first. What is everyone else up to today?

Morning all, Evening Kim,
Dos found some pain killers in the draw, so I had three lots before bed last night (not all at once). I got out once at 5.00 am then slept until Ros bought me in a cuppa at 9.15.
Raining here and miserable. I had intended walking to our trip out at 1.00 pm. but I think I will go in the car with Ros. I don't know what to expect for lunch, so I have told Ros we can go to the carvery later if we don't have enough to eat.
Gill, I knew Mel would be helping with your search. She found so much out for me. Bless her xxx
We enjoyed some programmes on BBC two last night, One a nature one, and the other about the Scottish Island where they found HUNDREDS of bodies and sculls. They also made a boat and sailed the Peatland Firth. The roughest passage of water in the British Isles. I thought of Liz and Ian while that was on !!!
It's nice that James and Hannah enjoy each others company Jane. I don't ever remember spending time with my sisters.
Well I had better get showered and shaved and get dressed, That will leave the bathroom free for MADAM.

Mel, I'm looking for my great grandmother, but it's very complicated so I've PM'd you with all the info I have on her. I'm trying to find her on a passengers list from America to the UK, I believe she was travelling with her Aunt, but I'm not sure how true the Aunt bit is as it's not yet been confirmed. I've been trying for two days to find her but so far have been unsuccessful.
Pleased to hear you have now taken some painkillers Frank, it sounds like they did the trick and you had a better nights sleep last night. The programmes sounded interesting. Sandra has us watching her music programmes, which I wasn't really paying attention to with being on FMP. Enjoy your lunch later. Let's hope there's enough so you don't need to go to the Carvery ;-)
It sounds like you had another good nights sleep too Mel <3

Yes we watched both those programmes too Frank, they were both very interesting particularly the second one. Then Taboo which we're beginning to get into! Our son came about 1.30! (he did ring first!) as he was picking up his dog (Jasper!) from the kennels which are quite close to us, and he wanted to go home in good time as he was feeling a bit tired after a 22 hour journey from Tarawera NZ. to Heathrow. It was so good to see him, he looked really well and had had a fantastic time. We had supper about 5.30, and he went home about 7.30. Thanks for the photos Jane, they certainly looked as if they were having a good time! Thanks for yours too Mel. Gill, once your relations came back to England you should be able to find them on the appropriate census. As Mel says they will be on a passenger list for their return. You will need names and dates which you should be able to find by going backwards from the last person you definitely know about, who their parents were and so on. I've got a third cousin who, having been a bit of a mystery, was finally traced as having emigrated to Canada in 1906! It was a fair old marathon, but we got there. Do you remember Joseph John Mel?!!!! We're having a peaceful day here. Roast Lamb for lunch, roast spuds and Leeks in white sauce. Cas is a bit better with Jasper, although still a bit nervous! Giver her time and hopefully they'll be friends!

Afternoon All
Liz,I am pleased your son has arrived home safely from NZ.I would love to visit there but I don't think I could stand that long long journey.I think th longest flight I did was to Tokyo and that was about 11 hours..That was plenty long enough . I am sure Cas will soon get used to Jasper .He will be glad to be out of kennels now :-D
Frank, hopefully your knee will feel easier and less painful today now you have found some tablets. Is this the lunch where you don't know exctly what you are having?? Surprise Surprise :-) :-)
Gill, lets hope Mel can help you out with the search for your rellies. Then you can fill in another gap .
It is such a miserable day today.Dark and drizzly .I decided to get the roast in so we can have it about 2.30 instead of tonight. My hips and knee are so stiff and painful today I thought it best to get cooking over and done with sooner than later and then I can put my feet up. I was up so early again as my knee was so painful in bed.I came downstairs and slapped a heat patch on it and sat with a cuppa and watching catch up on TV.
I thought the Scottish Islands programme was great last night. But I do find the chap with the long hair a bit irritating sometimes. It was a fascinating programme. I am afraid I am having to give up on Taboo Liz.. It is just not my cup of tea and I can't really seem to get into it.Pretty gruesome ending wasn't it !Maybe I will give it one more shot next weekend :-)
Yes Hannah and James had a great day yesterday.I think that was the longest time they have spent together (just the 2 of them) in a very long time.I know I said about the Axe throwing and the Games Bar,but can't remember if I said they went to a Turkish Restaurant for lunch and then stopped off at a bar on the way back to St Pancras Station. So it was a very full day.
I had a nice bath this morning about 10.30 and decided just to put some comfy Jim Jam bottoms on and a sloppy top. I am not going anywhere :-D As children the only time Janice and I were allowed to stay in our nightwear was if we were ill...No slopping around and looking slovenly LOL
My roast is not going to be one of my best. The potatoes are not the usual ones I have for roasting and haven't crisped up as well ,and the roast Parsnips,Carrots and Baby Turnips look a big soggy .NOT GOOD :-| :-|

Jane, I'm sure it'll be fine!! let's face it, it'll have to be!!!!!! I don't particularly mind the Scottish chap, but my SIL can't stand him!!! I think all that hair flapping round would get on my nerves though!! We're just about to have lunch. I roasted the potatoes in the utility room in the electric deep fat fryer. It does them a treat, no mess and no clearing up! After lunch we'll take Cas a little way, then try and find a film and settle down! I've got a good book I've just starts on kindle, so it maybe head phones for OH!!!

My great grandmother was born in America and came to the UK when she was a child, as her mother had passed away. She stayed with her future husband's aunt Hannah and I have her in the 1901 census living with Hannah and her family. She met and married my great granddad William (Hannah's nephew) and they moved to Ellesmere Port where she is found in the 1911 census with William and their first four children. She passed away in 1966.
This is all the information I have on my great grandmother. I don't know who her parents were or if she had any sibling's. I can't even find a birth record for her and so far haven't found her on any passenger's list entering the UK. She seems to have two surnames both of which have been spelt differently on various records and a news paper article I have of her, which is making finding anything on her in America impossible. So I feel I have hit a brick wall Liz. I only hope Mel has more luck with it all. It would be nice to find her family, mother, father etc.... I've been trying for a while now with no luck. I was told a couple of days ago that she travelled with her Aunt Ann Roper, although I couldn't find Ann either :-S It's all very strange. I assume Roper is Ann's married name, but then I could be wrong.
It sounds like you had a lovely time with your son Liz. 22 hours is a long journey I bet he was glad to get to bed. I'm sure Cass with be okay with Jasper in time.
Sorry to hear your hips and knee are playing you up Jane. At least the meal is out of the way now and you can sit down and relax. I had a bad night too and have just woken up from a sleep. I was watching the TV and didn't realise I'd nodded off till I woke up :-S

If she was born in America, I guess you would have to go onto ancestry (or who ever) and search for an American birth certificate. I had a great aunt who married an American in 1910, and went there to live. I managed to trace her death, in New York in 1972. Can't quite remember how I did it, but it was through Ancestry I do remember that. Good you've found her on the census though, it's always satisfying when that happens! Yes, it was lovely seeing our son, he looked so well and cheerful! (hope it lasts!!) Well we're both having a bit of a snooze, before finding a film to watch!

Afternoon all,
Home now, and in dressing gown, lazing around. Horrible evening outside. Rain and not very warm.
We had a very nice afternoon. Lunch was a beef stoginoffe (sp) or chicken casserole. both cooked in large slow cookers, all was very tender. We had Jacket potato's and mixed fresh Veg. Bread and butter pudding to follow. After a few beers before lunch and some Red wine with dinner. I feel well fed and watered.
Glad everyone has had a nice day, I am ready for a few zzzz.. See you later,

Afternoon All,
I don't mind Neil Oliver or his hair. He was good presenting some of the Coast series, much better than Nicholas Crane who really got on my nerves. It was the way his voice went up and down in sentences opposite to the norm. Even OH began to find it noticeable, but he did begin to improve a bit as time went on so I suspect others may have found it annoying and wrote in!! Last night's programme was the second of the 3 part Orkney series and we have found both very interesting up to now as well.
Jane my knees and back have twinged more the last couple of days so I wonder if the weather is affecting us? We occasionally have a 'jim jam' day too! My mum didn't allow us to do it either unless we were ill........once you were up you got dressed!
I expect your lunch will be fine.........if not, then it will make them appreciate it all the more the other times!!! ;-)
Liz I think if I travelled for 22 hours my blood would stop flowing!!! lol. :-) I bet Jasper went a bit crazy when he saw your son and would be much too enthusiastic for Cas's liking when he saw her. My parents nearly emigrated to NZ when I was a little girl. I've always been interested in going but getting there doesn't appeal to me. :-S
Good the painkillers gave you a better night Frank. ;-) I wonder what you had for lunch?
I hope Mel has managed to find the info you want Gill. I've been busy on FMP this weekend too and got an email like you.
It looks like we will be seeing La La Land tomorrow now and in the morning so we'll need to be up early. It will be worth it as there won't be many people there at that time and we can pick the best seats. :-D
I meant to say Anne that I bought my car pre-registered like Paul and with the same 15 miles on the clock. :-) It's worth it for what you can save.

I've PM'd you Hannah's birth year along with her husband and son. I replied to your PM before I read your post on here so sorry for asking a question you've already answered.
I don't think I'm going to find Josepha travelling over here from America. The only information I have regarding her travelling here is that she was either 12 or 8 years old, which would give us an idea of the years she travelled and that she was travelling with an Ann Roper who is believed to be her Aunty, although Ann hasn't been confirmed yet, it's what someone told me the other day via email. I've replied to this email asking for further information but I haven't heard anything back yet. I can't even find Josepha's birth record.
I appreciate you taking a look for me, I thought I was doing something wrong when I couldn't find her.
Thanks for trying <3

I will be interested to see what you think of La La Land Ann. I'm not sure if i fancy it or not.
Looks like Mel has come up trumps for you Gill :-D :-D
My Roast turned out fine but not as good as usual. It was those potatoes. There were Vivaldi .I had bought them for something last week and so had to use up the rest of the bag. I always like Maris Piper for my Roasties.I use Crisp and Dry and they always crisp up lovely on the outside after I have given them a good ruffle up,and are soft in the middle.Just how a perfect roast potato should be :-D. We haven't had any tea,but I might have a banana before I go to bed. That won't be late either.I would love to sleep all night tonight for a change. But I doubt that will be the case. Just watching Endevour and then I will be off.

I seem to remember you saying you weren't too keen on musicals Jane. The film has great reviews and it's the tap dancing I'm looking forward to although there might not be much in it. OH seems to be more keen on musicals than me now!! lol. I used Maris Piper at Christmas for roast pots and always try to get them. As you say, with the edges roughed up well after par boiling they come out a treat, crunchy with fluffy middles. I don't eat much potato, but use the Vivaldi for jackets or with salad as I seem to remember they have less calories! :-)
You are a bit further with your tree now Gill......it's always worth asking when you get stuck. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes helps.
The DNA test I had done is helping me with my tree now as more and more people have the test done, I've had hunches about one possible family with a same name being connected for ages (years) but couldn't find the connection. I still haven't found the connection, but this week, 3 new DNA matches of 5th-8th cousins of mine have this family in their trees so I must be related to the family as well and I know now that I'm on the right track to research them further!!
Early night for me now. OH is watching Sherlock that I gave up on.
