Good Afternoon all,

Congratulations to Cas you must feel very proud of her Liz she looks so sweet in her photo, she certainly deserves a well earned sleep bless her.

Did your little granddaughter enjoy her fish & chips Mandy? How did the weaving go? It's lovely when they stay over isn't it. How is Max getting on?

I thought what a lovely couple Hannah and Gareth made when you posted the photo of them on email Jane, maybe it will be wedding bells in the future <3 <3 <3 . I some times ask the same question but the main reason being I don't always listen properly.

Peter and I always had a joint account but being in accountancy he always left it to me. I do all my banking on line and keep a close eye on it so I don't go overdrawn but never leave too much in there just transfer money across when needed.

How sad about you OH'S football pal dying so young Ann, hope you manage to take some nice photos when your out.

It's ice hockey tonight so will be home alone for a while, Paul will be picking Richard up soon so we ate earlier only sausage and chips so nice and easy, I will have a sandwich later. Richard usually gets a kebab from the burger van that is just outside of Sainsburys when he's been to ice hockey in the evenings, that's one thing I've never fancied eating.

Sandra really loves her bracelet doesn't she Gill.It would be nice if she get some snow. I have also been doing some work on the family tree, I have three on Ancestry when I first started I combined Peter's family along with mine plus all the siblings going right back but it got far too large. So now I have the Crittenden tree and the Bailey one but direct line only.

Chris is the same age as my cousin would have been Jane had he lived. He died at 52 from melanoma. He spent a lot of time in India after Oxford when he was 22, teaching and helping destitute children, as well as teaching here and working for a while for the BBC. He eventually set up an orphanage and refuge on an Island on the southern tip of India which is now run by like minded people. He was such a lovely humane person and his death was a complete tragedy.
Yes, we're really proud of Cas, all the hard work, mostly by OH is finally coming together. We shall persevere this summer and try to find a few shows to take her to so that next year we shall have a champ!!!!!
Oh dear Jane, I wouldn't like Chris's birthday supper at all! It would be far too hot for me. In just can't eat hot food like that any more!!!

Jane Report 28 Jan 2017 18:30

Liz ,what wonderful work your cousin did !!!!!. How great though that the Orphanage and Refuge he set up is still going strong What a man <3

I was just thinking MEL ,that Chris was in his mid fifties when you started this thread !!!!!! and I think I was 53!!

I'll second what Mel says about Cas Liz and we have to remember she is still a very young dog. Those hours Ian has put in with her are paying off handsomely now. Are there competitions that Ian could enter her in? I know nothing about shooting and gun dogs.

We had seperate bank accounts when we moved in here together and we kept things the same after we were married. We always discuss any expensive purchases beforehand too and neither of us has wildly extravagant spending habits, preferring to get a bargain or good value, so we have never argued about money. As you say Liz, each couple has to find what works best for them.

I had a joint bank account with my first OH but he took advantage of the fact once he knew we were to seperate!!!!! :-S

Jane, it was at the time I did the portrait of OH that I considered doing one of.......yes. you guessed G M!! It was that haughty expression I fancied trying to capture!! lol If you think he would be tickled pink, I might still attempt it, so keep schtumm for now in case I do! ;-) It might turn out to be a disaster, but I won't know if I never try!! :-D Was Chris climbing over any stiles on his walk? That might have caused a a strain. I find some almost impossible. They aren't designed for smaller ladies. It's when you get one leg over (so to speak) but it hasn't reached solid plank the other side yet the trailing leg has left the plank below it. I'll leave you to picture what I mean!! lol. I'm not keen on Thai green curry either.......I've only had it once, but obviously Chris must like it.

I saw another police car when I went out. It was parked down that lane where they were holding the speeding gun at me that time. This time they were checking a car that was upside down in the ditch!

I sent a polite email to Tesco detailing the farce of the turntable and asked them to comment. I got a reply very quickly and was impressed with what action they intend to take to stop these things happening again and they have offered me a £15 gift card for the inconvenience! Well done Tesco!! :-)

That was a bit strange the doctor wanting to speak to Colin about the blood test result Mandy. Maybe it was normal but almost borderline and they want to do it again......you'll soon know now.

What a good man your cousin was Liz and what a legacy to leave behind. He did so much in in his sadly shortened life it makes me feel a bit ashamed of how little I do with mine.

He was a good chap and very nice too, easy to get on with, and of course interesting and clever. I agree Ann, I've done very little in my life to make a real difference. Working with the elderly was very rewarding, but no more than lots of other people do, nothing special.
I can see that you were put off a joint a/c Ann, Experiences certainly colour how you feel about certain things! Like you we are pretty frugal these days, neither of us particularly wants anything, and we always look out for a bargain!!!

Morning all,

Cloudy old grey day here this morning and no prospects of it brightening up either.

So what are you all doing today on this day of rest? I am hoping to do a bit more of my crafting to get this project finished but I keep finding other things I want to make to add to it.

Jane you asked how long we have to keep the girls in and I thin k its till 30th Feb so quite a long while yet. They don't like being shut up as their house is quite small even though there are only 7 of them. I just bung loads of shavings in there and hope for the best. They are only laying one egg a day if I am lucky.

The Bantams are used to being shut in so they are no problem and they have a house and covered runand no wild birds can get at them at all.

Gillx Report 29 Jan 2017 10:55

Morning Mel morning all

Quite cold here today even though the sun is out, plenty of cloud around so I expect a bit of rain later like we had last night.

It must be a nuisance having to keep your girls in all the time Mel, but it's for their own good isn't it? I'm sure they'll start producing more eggs after the 30th Feb when they're let out again. They're probably a bit confused at the moment as to why they are shut up all the time......bless them. Is the fox still around?

Yes, Jane Josepha is my great grandmother, so I suppose I do have a bit of native American blood in me, although it doesn't show. I was born with blond hair and blue eyes and fair skin, my sister on the other hand has some darker features with black hair and darker skin and her daughter has dark features too, whereas Sandra has fair skin, was born with blond hair and has blue eyes like me. We're quite a mixed up family :-D :-D

I'm still working on trying to find out Josepha's tribal name and the tribe she belonged to, it's all quite interesting and makes me wonder, if she belonged to a tribe, why she was sent over here to be looked after when her mother passed away. I'd of thought her tribe would of looked after her, so I'm a bit confused there :-S :-S :-S

Apparently Josepha told a member of the family her tribal name and the tribe she was in when this family member was doing something in school but the tree match I'm in touch with isn't in touch with him now so I've asked him if anyone else knows his whereabouts and he's looking into it for me. I've think I've found this family member on the Electoral Roll living in Wales, but I'm not sure if it's him. So I'll just have to wait and see what happens.
All this work is keeping me out of trouble LOL ;-)

Happy Birthday to Chris, hope he has a lovely day :-)

I have both OH's and my family on one tree Anne and we have almost 3.500 people between us on there now. It all started when OH's granddad wanted a tree doing but wasn't clued up with computers so I offered to do it for him. I made a book up with it all in and added photo's as a 90th birthday present for him, that was about 12 years ago, how time flies.

Going to get a cuppa now, my last one has gone cold.

Afternoon all, A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CHRIS. Still a youngster, and enjoying your life, Good on YOU !! I don't think I will join you for dinner tonight. Too hot for me.

We have the rain here, started off with frost, but soon cleared who the rain came..

Congratulations to CAS, she must have been so pleased with herself, and what a nice compliment from that chap. xx

Yes, your cousin did a resounding job in India. Do you get any feedback on what goes on there today.?? It's so nice to hear there was/are these people around, instead of all the bad things that people have done.

We got a joint A/C when we first got together, and continued until we retired, All the pension goes into the joint A/C. The Motorbillity allowance goes into Ros's A/C. What she does with that is up to her. If we have a lot of expense in the Joint account she will use money from her own account to back it up. SO What's her's is mine and vice a versa.

Shoulder of Spring lamb, NEW POTATO"S Brussels, Broccoli, Cauliflower (with cheese sauce) carrots roasted Parsnips and shallots. I am also going to roast a Garlic bulb. Yorkshire Pudding still to be made.

Ros has a basket of ironing to do, so is busy as I speak.

I do find that if you complain to Tesco and a lot of manufactures you do get a favourable response. BUT Morrisson's are not so forth coming. Even asking "do you need a reply to this enquire". What do you expect, when you are making a complaint.!!!

We had a F & C supper last night my Cod was so big, I could only eat half of it. Talk about a CODFATHER !!

I will ring my sister after this, to see if she was discharged from hospital yesterday. I hope she was, and that her son is looking after her.

Jan called over yesterday afternoon. She came up from Devon to give her daughter and Mark a break for the weekend. Alexander isn't sleeping (Teething) so she sent them off for the weekend to a SPA. He is such a lovely boy, running around and chattering away in his own language. He kept emptying the fruit bowl, and bringing everything to me. then taking them back and putting them in the bowl. It kept him busy for at least half an hour.

Hope you all have a nice Sunday Afternoon, whatever you might be up to.

Gillx

Gillx Report 29 Jan 2017 13:58

Did Jan bring Ros's bracelet with her, the one she misplaced when you were away Frank? It sounds like he was having a great time with your fruit, it's funny what little ones do isn't it, and they find it so much fun. Like you said it kept him quiet for a while :-) ;-)
Hope everything is okay with your sister now and she is out of hospital.

Well, I've just emailed Family Search in the hope they might be able to find something on my great grandmother Josepha as I can't find anything and have ran out of ideas now on how to find her. Still don't have a tribal name and doubt I'll get it as the person who knows isn't in contact with the family anymore, so hopefully family search will be able to help me instead........fingers crossed

Afternoon All
Thanks for Chris's Birthday wishes :-D :-D
He is busy setting up the Fitbit at the moment.it is all beyond me as it is is set up through the computer !!. James bought a lovely 'country style' Jacket which is really nice.It has a thick quilted lining so will be perfect when he goes off on one of his long walks. He will look a proper country gentleman LOL As long as he doesn't want a flat cap to match
:-S

Gill,I hope there is some way of finding out the tribe Josepha belonged to.It would be so interesting.

Frank your bowl of fruit came in handy LOL .I hope little Alexander (love that name) hasn't bruised all the fruit !!

What a miserable day it is here.Dark and heavy drizzle. Thomas went out the back door just now and one minute later was looking through the patio doors to come back in. He has a right face on him :-S

James has been in the kitchen chopping and whizzing things to make the Curry Paste. My nose is running and throat claggy already .I think he said we will eat about 5pm.

I hope you manage to get in touch with your sister Frank and that she is recovering well .
You could always set an extra place at your table tonight for ME :-D.I love the sound of that Lamb :-D

Mel I feel so sorry for all the birds being under house arrest for so long.It does seem very extreme but I do understand why it has to be done.
There is no FEB 30th !!!!! Just the 28 days :-)
Thomas was desperate to get out so he has just legged it across to the big hedge. He will be dry under there and still be able to hunt out any mice :-D

Afternoon all,

Happy Birthday to Chris hope he enjoys his curry tonight , the jacket sounds just the ticket for his long walks as you say all he needs is a flat cap ,oh and some Plus Fours LOL

Dull here now it started drizzling just after lunch but the sun was shining away first thing .
We took Katie home after her sleep over ,i slept in the double bed with her as she didn't want to be on her own ,she soon went to sleep i thought she would keep chatting away as that's what she does all day her little jaw must ache by the end of the day , i woke up several times ,one time her elbow was in my neck another time her feet were digging into my leg and she also had the quilt pushed down in the early hours so i covered her up and she didn't stir at all.
We had to laugh when she said Grandad can sleep on his own in his bed and snore away to his hearts content :-D

Fingers crossed for your search for your great grandmother Josepha Gill ,some times when you think you've come to a dead end you suddenly find some thing again .

Max is worn out again after Katie being here at the moment he has his head on my foot and is fast asleep .

Good afternoon all

Just finished our Sunday roast, Chicken this time, Abbie's request all the usual veg including cauliflower cheese I also did pigs in blankets as well...

I hope Chris enjoys his birthday meal and also had a good day, that was a lovely present he had from James, just right for this time of the year.

I watched Finding Neverland early yesterday evening and found it quite sad at the end, when Richard came in we had Taboo on still can't get into it and still four more episodes to go. Will watch Apple Tree Yard on catch up during the day tomorrow as it's not Richards type of thing so will see Endeavour instead.this evening.

It's been much milder today but raining hard at the moment so like Thomas they are staying in doors

Afternoon All,

<3HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CHRIS <3 You'll be able to sing the Beatles song to him today Jane, 'When I'm 64'. lol ;-) I hope James does a great curry for him! I am interested in how he gets on with the fitbit.

Went out for lunch earlier to the nearby, newish place we go to often that is such good value, but it seems now the Toby just the other side of the main road has closed, many of their rougher clientelle turned up where we were!! We very rarely went to the Toby as neither the food nor the service were very special. We've decided we need to find somewhere else on Sundays now or perhaps go earlier and have a brunch instead of lunch!

We decided to stay in the rest of the day as it is raining and so gloomy, so OH has done the ironing and is watching footie on the tv after. I've just transferred everything from my old purse to a new one. It's a bigger purse, but I couldn't fit everything in, so have done a bit of pruning. Now I've been getting to grips with my paperwork in the study. It's a good night on tv for us so I shall see if I can finish some beading things I've started. I often like to be 'doing' something else while I watch tv unless I'm in bed.

I see the bird flu has affected some pheasants now. It must be costing everyone more having to keep their flocks inside.

You have a far bigger tree than I have Gill and some interesting ancestry! I have ancestors that settled in America and also a couple that were sent to Australia for highway robbery!! :-0

I could just fancy some lamb Frank........well all of your dinner really......pass the mint sauce please. :-D

Better go and get the salmon salad ready now. OH will want a jacket with his.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Jan 2017 17:04

I wondered how long it would take for someone to say that there are only 28 days in Feb.
It sounds like the fruit bowl was a great success with Alexander and I too hope the fruit is not too bruised so you can eat it.

How nice for James to cook Chris a nice dinner. I bet Thomas dos'nt like the spicey smells either Jane. The jacket was a very good idea for Chris for his long walks. Does he still wear the HAT? It may not go with the new jacket so perhaps he will get a flat cap. :-(

Oh won't wear a flat cap but will wear one of those nice tweedy hats. I think thats what Chris needs to go with his jacket. Oh has plus fours too in a light brown corderoy. He had those on the first time I saw him walk past our back garden. Nice wool socks and mochasin type shoes. He caught my eye then but since we have been together he has never worn them again. :-( :-(

Well I have been doing my craft project and was getting on so well until I glued something and have messed it all up now. I got the glue on the inner lining and theres nothing I can do I don't think. Too much work has gone into it to start again.

Mandy did you do any of the straw weaving with little Katie??

Just going to get our cheese and biccies ready.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 29 Jan 2017 19:30

We did have a go at the straw weaving Mel but i think she needs to be a little older as she kept missing a straw and it doesn't help that she is left handed , so i did it one way round the straw and she was trying to take the wool the other way round so it ended up quite a muddle , i think Chelsea would do it she soon got into the cross stitch when she came.

Raining here now .
