I was thinking of putting netting over the grass seed but it's almost all gone now so there's no point. I'm still watering the area as there was a bit of the original grass there which seems to be growing, so hopefully that'll spread over the area as it's only a small patch.

It sounds like you've had a right job sorting the hose pipe out Frank, at least it's done now. I've just been sitting outside but it's to hot so I'm now sitting in front of a fan. I wish I could share my sun with everyone who hasn't gone it. There was talk of a possible hose pipe ban, hope it doesn't happen as we're having to water the garden twice a day every day at the moment and it would take forever to do it all with the one water can we have. Hope you all get some sun soon. It's odd really as it's normally the South of the country that's hotter than the North.

I decided earlier to take a look at the spare TV system I have for recording and noticed that I'd been recording my soaps on there for months, it's taken me most of the day to delete them all. I shall have to stop the recordings now. On a positive I came across last years Chelsea Flower Show that we never watched, so we've started watching that before this years show starts. Better get back to it as there's hours of it to get through which will probably take the next few days and we've only watched part of the first one so far :-)
Sorry to hear you're still on your own Frank. Do you have another book you could read now you've finished the one with 6500 pages in? That'll give you something to do while Ros is out.

You'll all be pleased to know Max can be reunited with his balls ;-) :-D :-D
All nicely healed so he can stop having the pain killer and antinflamity liquid ,he was good as gold in the vets Frank ,he goes trotting in and sits down and carn't wait to go through when his name is called ,the vet got lots of wet kisses LOL

Frank just check that the hose doesn't come flying off the connection when the water is turned on before you wind all the hose on the reel ,Colin did that to our hose because of a leak, he had wound all the hose on and the water pressure pushed the hose connection off and he had to unwind all the hose again!!

Afternoon All
Just in from that lovely relaxing eye/face massage. Oh boy was it good. 45 minutes of total bliss. One part of it is I am left for 10 minutes alone with cotton wool pads soaked in something over my eyes.I felt myself drifting off to sleep ,but didn't dare let myself go completely as I would have started snoring !!!!. I smell lovely too now :-D
Trouble is I am just about to do a spag bol so will no doubt pong with the cooking smells.
Just before I went there I took Thomas tro the Vets to get his ears checked out because of the scratching. But all seemed clear. The only thing the vet could find was a slightly enlarged lymph node .But he said that could be nothing to worry about now. If I am still concernerd when we get back from France I can take him back and he will give him a Cortisone injection.
My appointment was a bit delayed because of an emergency . It was a 41kilo Alaskan something or another (dog),who had been having seizures since last night. The owners had come from Milton Keynes and just dropped in with the dog.I watched as the vet and the 2 owners somehow carried this big beast along the corridor !!!!!!. It looked like the size of a small pony !!!!!!.

So Ball time again then Mandy :-D.Max will think it is Christmas LOL. At least he won't have to go through that op again :-D :-D

Frank,I hope that the grass cuttings next door aren't left for you to clear !!!!... He hardly ever cuts his grass does he.

Mel good luck with the MOT tomorrow. I can just imagine all the cow muck that gets splattered up underneath your car.Bet they have to chip it off :-D

Gill,I am glad the tablets are working for Sandra and that her eye is much better now.
Crikey you must have had a million things recorded .I hardly ever record programmes now ,but just watch on catch up. Fitz is always recording things.

Ann,those Police Choppers do make such a din don't they .We can often hear them ,but once over head it is so noisy. Once some years ago now we had one right over us hovering and with the spotlight swinging around over the field and all the gardens.
It was quite exciting and everyone and their mother was out to have a look.I was in my dressing down as were most of the neighbours . I think I heard on some programme that it costs about £1,500 an hour to have the helicopter up !!!!.

Fingers very sore now. As the day goes on they get worse.I always keep some plasters in my handbag ,and when I was in the waiting room at the Vets 2 fingers had cracked so I quickly covered them up.I hope these black gloves arrive soon.

Must make a start on this spag bol.

Oh Mandy, I'm so pleased Max can play again, now he's all healed <3 It sounds like he loves the vets, you are lucky as most animal don't.

So you've had a lovely 45 minutes Jane, shame you have to make the spag bol now. Hope all is okay with Thomas and he doesn't have to go back to the vets. I don't suppose he gives the vet lots of wet kisses like Max does LOL

Yes Sandra's eye is on the mend, all it took was a tablet and some cream for the dry skin after her rubbing it so much. I'll put a bit more cream on for her later. All the redness has almost gone now and looks much better.

Here I am had to do a bit of looking up for Gill after I unpacke dthe shopping and had a cupps MAW (milk and water) and a chco eclair.

Oh shot a big rabbit this morning down here by the house just on the bend where our road goes up the garden. So another one bit the dust........

I see on Gardeners World that Monty has rabbits in his garden now. I had to laugh as they had eaten off all his umbellical plants he grew from seed and nurtured in his greenhouse and cold frame and put out in the garden and the rabbits had a big party. The time before he showed us a hole a rabbit had dug in his garden. Poor old Monty i do feel for him and know just what its like. ;-) ;-)

Gill I have emailed things to you.

Annx

Annx Report 9 May 2017 22:45

Evening All,

Do you mean Umbellifers Mel? I haven't watched Monty yet. I think Jane means an Alaskan Malamute at the vet's. We often see a strapping man in the village with one going for walks. It is a huge handsome dog with blue eyes and he has it pull him along with a belt harness attached to his own waist. I think there is someone local who has a sled dog team as we've seen the vehicle with the dogs in parked in the village.

I bet Max couldn't believe his eyes when his balls appeared again Mandy (sorry! lol). It's really good he is happy to go to the vet's. It would be hard to get him in there now he's bigger if he didn't want to go. It's good you got some free wood from your friend. It all helps.

That's good the travellers have been moved Jane. Shame the pony was left, but maybe where they were going there was nowhere to put it. It should get a good home now though. I hope your black gloves come before you go away or you'll be taking the white ones after all. Your pampering sounded lovely. I don't think I have ever had any pampering, not even a manicure! No, I have.........the nice head massage at the hairdressers. :-) :-). Your poor fingers must be sore if they get cracks in them. It will do them good to not have chores while you are away.

That funny sensation in your hand sounds like the nerves Frank. I hope it hasn't bothered you since. How annoying to get the car wing mirror ripped off!! It's just what I was saying the other day about cars coming too fast the other way past parked cars and in the middle of the road. They seem to forget that it isn't their right of way. Those mirrors are pricey as Mandy says. I know when that lorry ripped mine off when my car was parked I was surprised at the cost. Then to add insult to injury they upped my insurance the next time, even though the lorry company admitted guilt and their insurance paid! :-S

It's good Sandra's eye is getting better Gill. Our tip has been changed so it is like that now and you have to carry the stuff up steps to throw it in the skips. All well and good if you are young and fit, but I said to OH I would struggle to get up there on my own!! When I lived on my own I would often take rubbish and you could just reverse up close to the pile and drag it out of your car onto the concrete if it was heavy.

Morning all,

Bright and sunny again this morning and it does make you feel good to be alive.

Pleased Sandra's eye was better after the tablet and cream Gill.

Ann you know what I meant when I put Umbellical, ha ha thats what I call them. Made me feel like that woman on the telly years ago with the brother Eli. She laways got the words for things wrong.

Must go oh is back and I have to get my car in.

Gillx Report 10 May 2017 10:26

Morning all

Lovely and sunny again, we've just had a laugh as we were sitting outside having a cuppa. Next door has her son over from Canada and he was cutting her back lawn. We have a bit of a gap at the bottom of our hedge so we could see him walking up and down the lawn when all of a sudden one of the wheels came off and rolled along the grass, he didn't notice at first and carried on cutting the lawn. OH couldn't stop laughing, I must admit it was funny. The neighbour's son has fixed the wheel now.

Thanks Mel for the look ups I've finished that part of my tree now and it's all thanks to you <3 Pleased to hear you have good weather, you're right it does make you feel good when the sun's out. Hope Frank has some sun today. I'm just about to watch Gardener World Mel. What a shame the rabbits have ruined Monty's plants, he works so hard too, he must be disappointed.

So Tony has finally cut his lawn Frank......it's about time he did something, he does sound very lazy from what you've told us. Did you manage to get your hose back in it's reel?

Yes, it is a pain having to climb up all those steps at the tip Ann and like you I wondered how elderly people would manage. Sandra was saying that the staff there don't even offer to help people, which I think is really bad.

Have you got your black gloves yet Jane, hope you manage to get some before you go away? Hope your fingers improve soon, they sound very painful.

Just had a lovely cuppa but I'm still thirsty so might go and get another one before I watch Gardeners World.

Morning to you all and the SUNSHINE, Evening Kim.

What a treat to open the curtains this morning to see wall to wall sunshine, a bit of white cloud now, but no wind.

Ros is at the nurse this morning being fitted with one of these compression stockings, to try to get the swelling down on her right leg and foot. She believes it's all down to the damaged nerves in her back afters many big operations. She does have a job to walk without a shopping trolley or her stick.

Good old Max, given the vet a wash, and being able to get and play with his TOYS.

Jane ,can you not chase up your black gloves ?? where are they coming from.

Ros has just walked in. She has to go back next Wednesday Afternoon, and lay for 40 minutes on her back. Then Louise (the nurse) with do different tests and measurements. she is saying it could be to do with her HEART or the VEIN that runs down her leg. Lets hope it's the latter.

I had a nice KIPPER this morning with B & B and a COT for my breakfast. Dos is doing a Stir Fry tonight, so I have a day OFF. !!!!

Glad you are all keeping well, I trust Will and Carmel are O.K. No news is good news, they say !!!

Gillx

Gillx Report 10 May 2017 11:14

I'm pleased you have some good weather at long last Frank, lets hope it stays with you now. Sorry to hear about Ros, hope it's not her heart.

I had to smile when you said you had kippers for breakfast, as it reminded me of Sandra, she has a word search book and one of the words was kippers, she didn't know what they were and asked me, when I told her she wasn't impressed saying that's not a breakfast, toast or a fry up or cereal is a breakfast......bless her. Needless to say she didn't fancy having kippers for breakfast, even though I told her they were nice.

Yes, I was wondering how Carmel was doing as we haven't heard from Will for some time now. Hopefully she's doing okay <3

Morning all,

Beautiful sun shine here today ,more washing on the line i don't know where it all comes from .

I had to smile when Monty Don asked people to send in any ideas as to how to rid the garden of the rabbits. .... i thought he just needs to borrow Thomas from Jane :-D

Naughty Gill laughing at the wheel coming off :-D funny how a little thing like that can give you the giggles .

Poor Ros she sounds just like Colin he likes to have the shopping trolley to hold on to to help him walk , he has been to the doctors this morning as his legs ache so much ,the doctor is sending him for an MRI scan he thinks he might have Compression of the spine which is causing all the pain in his legs ,he walks quite bent over now he doesn't stand straight at all.
Hope the stockings help to get the swelling down in Ros's leg .

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 May 2017 12:42

Mum used to say she could walk better with one of those smaller shopping trollys. She would'nt use a stick just out of pride I think.

Hope it is a vein in Ros's leg that is causing the swelling Frank. Please give her my regards.

Good thinking about lending Thomas to Monty for his rabbit problem. I really laughed when he said he had the first rabbit hole and I was only thinking a few weeks before I wonder what he'd do if he had a rabbit prolem like me. I must have wished it.......
Perhaps he should get a gun!!!!! but I bet he would'nt put that on the telly. Perhaps he can tell me how to stop the deer eating my plants.

Washing blowing on the line. I have done three lots today, well one was in over night and now I have no line left to put it on.

Hope something can be done for Colin Mandy. New hips and he is still in pain bless him.

Frank you shoud be having a couple of walnuts after your kippers to stop you getting indigestion. I bet they went down really well.

Frank Report 10 May 2017 14:28

Hi all, just in from the garden. I checked the hose connection and it's as tight as a drum. Managed to wind all the hose on the reel, then decided to water the garden so had to unwind a lot of it again. I have cut up the old hose that went down the bottom of the garden via the fence, and clips. It's all in the black bin now. I have also disposed of the short hose that I used for the front garden and Patio. The driveway hasn't any untidy hose laying around now, so that will please madam.

Thanks Mel, but the kippers went down a treat without and discomfort. I think having B & B with them helps.

What a treat we are having with all this sunshine. I am down to shorts and bare chest. It's nice and warm. I will get my book and try to read outside, but it might be difficult in the sun.

Ros is PLANTING more things in the garden, where she finds the spaces from, I do not know. ;-) ;-) ;-) But I must say everywhere looks a treat, from all hr hard work. Our wisteria is in full bloom and Val said she can smell it as soon as she comes out into the back garden.

Ros is putting up trellis on the fence for new clematis , so I had better go to see if I can help.

Good Afternoon all

It's very warm and sunny here

Taken Ruby for a walk and then sorted the ponds out of the green weed plus watered the tubs front and back.

I had a bad migraine yesterday so kept well away from the laptop, still had a headache when I woke up but it seems to be OK now.

Jane sorry to hear your fingers are still giving you problems, is it tomorrow you are off to France? If so I hope you have a really good time, I hope young Thomas is alright when you are away and the swollen gland isn't anything serious.
Your eye massage sounds wonderful and such a thoughtful present from James.

Loved your tree photos taken at the arboretum Ann.

Frank hope the bandages Ros has for her legs help the situation. I can remember one of my SIL's having them a while back.

Good to hear young Max is back to his usual bouncy self. Ruby also has no problems when visiting the vets mainly I think because of the treats she is given as a reward for being good.

Gill is must be a relief that Sandra's eyes are no longer giving her problems.

My wisteria is out too but I never cut it back because I can't get to it. Its up the top garden and its so overgrown I would'nt be able to get there. Its hanging over the wall where our road to the house comes down.

Back from the border. I have cut right the way along the edge having rest inbetween as the long handle shears make my left thumb hurt. Then I thought I would cut back all the dead stuff and prune the Penstemon which should have been done in April but I walked the lenght of the border to get some tools and got side tracked and dug a bit of ground where twitch and bindweed were. Big mistake it took me ages and then when I went to get up I had to use the spade handle to push myself up. My mouth was so dry I came down for a drink.

A quick afternoon all
So many posts today.I haven't read through them properly yet but see Ros has got a compression stocking for her leg.Hopefuly it will be a great help in keeping the swelling down.
Colin too with bad legs.I hope it isn't his back causing the trouble Mandy and that he won't need an op.

Ann,do you suffer much from migraines ? I think you have said before that you get them. Horrible things .Thankfully I have never had one. I remember my Aunty Joyce suffered terribly from them and spent a good couple of days each time in bed with the curtains shut.

Yes it is tomorrow we are off.Not until the afternoon which is good as I can't do any more sorting packing today. My fingers feel like they have been shredded at the moment :-S. I have done so much today including trying on all sorts of clothes to see what goes with what and trying to decide what exactly I want to pack. I will finish all that in the morning.
Thomas came in just at the right time this afternoon for me to take him to the cattery. He is now very suspicious when he sees the pet carrier and legs it straight to the back door !! But I can still manage to get him in it ok without a struggle. He wasn't a happy cat to be back at the cattery. But I know he will be well looked after ,which is the main thing. I must forget him now.

What a beautiful day !!! I think we will arrive in Lyon to torrential rain on Friday.Rain on Saturday too I think. But then looking good for the rest of the week. Fitz is taking us to the station tomorrow afternoon, and then we are staying the night in a Hotel 3 minutes walk from St Pancras ,as the Eurostar is at 8am on Friday. We will have check in an hour before the train goes as it is all security checks,X rays on baggage etc just like an airport .When we get to Paris we have to get a taxi across the city to the station Gare de Lyon to get the fast train for the final stage of our journey.

BLACK GLOVES are here :-D .I must say thay look far better than the white ones. I even drove in them to the cattery. They are a bit of a neat fit but are fine. I rang the surgery today to see if my blood result was back to know if it is safe to carry on with my tablets, but it is closed for Training .So I will have to ring in the morning.

I am doing Beef Stroganoff tonight, and need to cut the beef into strips now and get on with it. Chris is watering the garden (AGAIN) and putting some Tomato plants in.
I will try and get back later .....Just seen all Thomas's dishes still on the floor in the kitchen ,so they need clearing away.

Frank

Frank Report 10 May 2017 17:50

Well I have finished for the day. I have just got myself a cold beer for all my hard work today. Ros has now come in after doing so much again. Bless her. !!! I am all showered and shaved, it feels nice when you have been in the garden all day. Nice clean clothes on, and smelly stuff on. i.e. After shave, and deodorant. Makes me feel like a new man.!!!

So you are off tomorrow Jane. I hope you have a nice time and your fingers/hands don't cause you any trouble. Is Thomas going to the same cattery as he went to last time ?? I bet he will miss his hunting ground ;-) ;-) ;-) The rabbits will think they are on holiday :-D :-D :-D

Mel, you must have a never ending task, trying to keep your boarders free of weeds and stuff you don't want/need. Pity about the car needing a new tyre. The brake pipes are usually made of a strong metal, we have never had to renew ours in over 10 MOTs. I hope I am not speaking to soon. Mind you we only had ours done a few weeks ago.

Anne Ruby has settled in with you so well. Is it time we saw more photo's. I know we had some a few weeks ago, but she is growing, and I am sure getting more photogenic each week. !!! The same goes for you MANDY. We haven't had a photo of MAX for ages.

I don't suppose MONTY dare use a GUN on Tele. to rid him of rabbits. There would be a riot of complaints from all these Nature lovers. :-P :-P :-P

I soaked and broke up a couple of stale French Sticks, I put them on the back lawn and the lot was gone within minutes. The starlings and jackdaws were down in seconds. The poor sparrows were lucky if they got the crumbs.

Just looked up the lounge and Ros's head is down on her chest. She must be whacked out, from all her hard work today. I won't disturb here, so I don't know what time we will get the STIR FRY. ;-) ;-) ;-)

You've been busy in the garden again Mel ,perhaps you should take a bottle of water with you so you can take a swig now and then , i was going to say you carn't beat a good old cuppa to quench your thirst but then i remembered you carn't have one !! :-(
