Evening all,

It's been a nasty old day here very heavy drizzle at times then a down pour ,the last couple of hours it's been dry but the clouds are looking black again .

Well i'm sorry nobody got the photo's ,i seem to remember it happening before ,but as you say it's nice to hear that Jane and Chris are enjoying themselves , i think they are away for about a week Frank.
Poor Ros having to lay flat for all that time ,i hope she has managed to do it ok.

We had to go to Fakenham this afternoon to pick up a Stunt Scooter that we had ordered for Jakes birthday next week , we were very naughty and called into the chocolate shop ,as we walked in Colin said just breath in the chocolate smell and on goes the pounds !! :-D

Was Norman a bit of a joker then Mel ?it put a smile on peoples faces at a sad time , that was good they had a piano to fall back on ,do they know why the electric went off ?

Evening all

Muggy sort of day today but no rain so that's good.

Thanks Mel for letting me know he was a sawyer, it was bit difficult to read. I'm going to try and work backwards from Alice using the father's name she mentioned on her marriage record to see if there is another Alice that should be on my tree. I know the Alice on the marriage record is a family member as the witnesses are part of my family but I'm not sure if it's the Alice I've already got and I don't want to make a mistake by marrying her off to William if it's not her. Thanks again for all your help, I really appreciated it <3 What a thing to happen at the funeral, but like you said it's probably Norman up to tricks. It's a nice thought though isn't it?

How lovely to see the woodpecker Anne, we saw one last year when we had the big apple tree, but now the tree isn't there we've not seen it again. It was nice to see it pecking at the tree trunk.

16 Anne, what a young age, the poor girl. I hope they get to the bottom of it and find out what happened.

Love the comment Colin made in the chocolate shop Mandy LOL

How sweet Frank that Lewis left those lovely notes, Sandra leaves me notes occasionally and it does bring a smile to my face. Hope all went well with Ros's tests. Yes, I'm only small, I was measured a few years ago but OH thinks I might be a bit smaller now, they say you get smaller as you get older. So long as my height doesn't start with a 4 I'll be happy LOL :-D

You'd be proud of me today Frank. I got the quotes for the car insurance and also the break down cover and managed to save us over £900. OH gave me a big hug once it was all done. I can't believe how much cheaper everything was once I started looking. Thanks everyone for your help with the websites to look on. I've now told our old insurance and breakdown people we won't be renewing with them in a couple of weeks. The car insurance with the AA were okay about it but the AA breakdown were a bit persistent and wanted us to stay with them. I had to fib in the end and say we had visitors and that I had to go just to get rid of them. It took me all day to sort it out but well worth it. I'm so happy and now I have decided to do the same with the house insurance and if I feel brave enough I might have a go at swapping energy providers too........there's no stopping me now :-D :-D ;-)

Annx Report 17 May 2017 20:31

Ooooh that was a bit spooky at the funeral Mel! I wouldn't have liked standing in the dark. Did you hold your OH's hand? ;-)

Gill, didn't you do well!! :-D As you say, there will be no holding you back now! No wonder your OH was so chuffed. My OH says I have saved him thousands since I've known him haggling buying cars and on insurances/utilities. It feels good to make the same money go further. :-)

We do the bed together too Frank as we both get back trouble at times. I used to love doing the garden and designing new bits but OH does most of the weeding now because I can't kneel any more. I still manage to prune the shrubs though and look after the pots. A bungalow further along has had the front completely block paved with the larger square blocks and just has a few big planted pots. It looks a treat with the new roller shutter garage door fitted. I am tempted........if only we knew whether we will stay here if they build at the back of us! :-S

OH will be back soon from his meeting and has asked me to slice him some of the cold lamb for a sandwich when he gets back! I've done it ready for him but he will get his own sandwich when he gets home. No doubt pickle jars will be coming out to go with it!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 17 May 2017 22:09

I like a cold lamb sandwich with mint jelly in it.

No I did'nt hold oh's hand as there were 7 other people in the bell tower with me and it was on the ground floor and the double doors to the church have glass in them and the church lights were on anyway. The organ is above the bell tower so must have been on the same circit (sp) and they got them on again before everyone left so they had a good ring to send Norman off. Normon started ringing in Shebbear at the age of 9 and he rang with us when we started ringing. He was born in April 1920. He must have seen so many changes in his lifetime. They still have the first tractor he bought for £650. His son and grandson are restoring it. His son Chris has taken over the funeral business well he has run it now for quite a few years and his daughter Kate also works with her dad so instead of Locke and Son it will now be Locke and Daughter I suppose.

I cooked roast lamb tonight with cabbage parsnips roasties peas and yorkshire puds.
Feel stuffed now...

Morning all

We've got the sunshine back again hooray :-D

Yes Ann, it is nice when you realise you can save so much money and to think if they hadn't quoted a silly price for the renewal I probably wouldn't of done anything about it and paid for the insurance and breakdown. £904 is a lot of money, I wonder how many other people just pay it. No wonder the insurance people are rich.
I don't eat cold lamb I prefer it hot, so I normally make a stew with any left overs.

Mum's coming round later so I'm going to take another look at my family tree before she gets here.

Nothing much else planned for the day as all the housework is done :-)

When is Jane due back? Hope her fingers are feeling better now she's rested them. :-)

Morning Gill ,morning all,

Lovely sunny day here ,i have just pulled a few weeds up in the front garden they come up nice and easy after the rain i have filled two tubs so thats another trip to the tip some time .

Gill you must be pleased to think you got a good deal with the insurance for the car ,gives you the confidence to have another go with the other things ,as you say there will be no stopping you now.

I'm just having a coffee then I'll walk Max ,hopefully the grass will have dried off a bit and he won't get so wet on his walk.

Frank Report 18 May 2017 11:06

Good Morning SUNBEAMS, Evening Kim,

What a difference, wall to wall sunshine here, but still some dark clouds floating around.

Ros didn't have to lay for 40 minutes. Louise the nurse, felt her leg and ankle, and said how hot it was. She went out of the room and came back with a Doctor. He felt the ankle and said that's FLEABITIS (sp). He has put her on MORE antibiotics, and she has to go back next Friday. Louise has given here some stockings to help with the swelling. She does look KINKY in black stockings. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Well done you GILL, saving all that money. Now you have the experience you MUST do your other insurances and GAS and LECI.

Thanks Ann, I will look that up on Google to see if it's the plant. I am intrigued now, to see if it can be sown and make new plants. They cost a fortune for the size we have. Could be a little side line ;-) ;-) ;-)

Oh Mel, what a thought Norman making the lights go out during the service. It's creepy when you think about it. :-0 :-0 :-0

Naughty, naughty Mandy, You must stay away from Chocolate shops. LOL What is a STUNT BIKE. Not dangerous I hope. How old is Jake this year ??

Ros looked out of the bedroom window this morning , and sitting there was her Blackbird and one baby. She opened the window and fed them with Meal Worms. which she keeps on the window sill . Talk about knowing which hand feeds you !!!

It would be nice to get the lawns cut today, but i'm afraid it's to wet. Might have a chance later this afternoon. Rain forecast again from the South tonight. THANKS MEL !!!!

Gillx

Gillx Report 18 May 2017 11:19

Pleased to hear Ros didn't have to lay for 40 minutes and the doctor could diagnose the problem straight away, hopefully the antibiotics will start working soon and she'll feel much better. Yes, I'm going to look into al my other bills to see about getting better deals. We've been thinking of changing our house insurance to something more suitable to our needs so I might as well ring around to see if I can get it cheaper too. How lovely for Ros to see the Blackbird and her baby, they must trust her if she can feed them Meal Worms from the window. How is the Robin, have you seen her and the babies? OH is hoping to cut our lawns if the sun dries them enough. He's out at the moment but it doesn't go dark so early now, so he can do them later when he gets in.

It's nice when the weeds don't fight back isn't it Mandy? There's nothing worse than them just breaking off as they are back again in a few days. I was wondering what a stunt bike was as well :-S :-S

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 18 May 2017 11:59

Morning all,

Nice and sunny first thing and oh got some of the grass cut.

I think what Mandy was saying is a Stunt Scooter. They do sort of tricks on them like on the jumps and swivel the whole scooter round etc.

My weeds always fight back it seems. Weeding my border is like painting the fourth bridge. Once you get to the end its time to start on the begining again. :-(

I have the library today at 12.15pm. Must'nt forget......

Di has Phlebitis and has had it for absolutely ages now.

Frank

Frank Report 18 May 2017 13:07

Well, the ironing all done apart from Ros's bits. There wasn't that much as I haven't been wearing shirts, just Joggers and T shirts.

The blackbird and children have been in the flower pots on the patio. Earth everywhere, Ros is out there sweeping up at the moment.

I have just come out of the shower. Will have 10 minutes before getting shaved, as I always feel like a wet weekend when I come out. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Is there any cure for Phlebitis ?? or do you have to stay on tablets. She seems to be going through it at the moment, poor thing <3 <3

Sun is really warm now, so I will put shorts on and tackle the back lawn. If I feel O.K. I will do the front later. At least we won't need to do any watering. :-D :-D :-D

I will have to sort out what we will have for dinner tonight, and get myself some lunch. No breakfast again this morning. !!!

Frank

Frank Report 18 May 2017 16:40

Have got dinner ready for tonight, Pulled Pork with Apple sauce and crackling crumb. New potato's sweetheart cabbage, broad beans, carrots and peas.

While I was doing that Ros has mowed the back lawn. Tracy next door in lugging bags of slate chippings from the boot of the car down to the pond. I tried this morning but couldn't even lift them from the boot. Her mum said that she has the strength of two men, I think it's something to do with her disability, but boy is she strong. I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of her.

I have sent an email to a grower of that fern/palm I have in the garden to see what they think of this thing flowering the first time in over 15 years. I haven't heard back yet. Will be interested to hear what they say. I see that one the size of mine is well over £120.00. But I don't know how anyone could get it out of the ground and transport it.

I see ITV is going to be boring tonight with all this election business, I for one will be glad when it's all over. It seems to get stuffed down your throat every blooming evening, before the news. Election broadcast from this one and that one. I can't do with it.

Gill, I haven't seen the Robin chicks, one of the parents still comes in the garden for it's tit bits.

Didn't have lunch either today, but we had a COT and a biscuit or four this afternoon.

It's turned very dull and cloudy here now, so I expect we will see more rain tonight.

Ment to say Mel, your OH has a "BULLS NECK" That's a good old saying for someone with a large collar size. Without being rude how much does he weigh ??
There's little old me just over 13 stone. Harvey is getting on for 19 stone and Conrad around 16 stone. Not sure how big MY SON is as I never see him. The way Harvey works, there's not an ounce of fat on him, built like a"brick out house". You know what I mean ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Time I got MADAM in from the garden. She would be out there till it's dark if I let her. !!

Gillx

Gillx Report 18 May 2017 19:18

What a shame Frank you haven't seen the Robin babies, I know how much you were looking forward to it. Ros sounds a bit like I was last year, I did so much and the hours just passed by I even put the outside light on if it was getting to dark to finish the job.

OH has cut the back lawn, he's just having something to eat then he'll do the front one and water the new plants. It looks so much better now. That's the thing if it rains for a few days the weeds and lawns go out of control.

I think I'm getting an abscess on my front tooth, it's been quite painful for the last few days. Going to get a painkiller and a cuppa, the warm tea should help.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 18 May 2017 19:49

You need a drop of whiskey on that tooth Gill or corsdol mouth wash. Thats what I use as I have a tooth that gets an abscess sometimes and if I feel it sore I just have a swill a couple of times a day.

Been up the border. Two barrow loads of weeds later I was gasping so came down for a drink and now I look at the c lock and I hav'nt dne the chickens yet!!

Gammon for dinner with chips for him and egg and pineapple. Mushrooms and tomatoes.

Annx Report 18 May 2017 20:59

I feel as if I've been on a battleground all day! I even missed the FMP webinar I wanted to watch at 4.00pm about the old newspapers. :-S It started with this energy transfer I started the other day. It turned out the National Gas Register have our meter registered under the old postcode we had the first few months when we moved here and we can't transfer till it's been changed. The electric details are fine. Only our current provider can update it so I had a webchat with them this morning. Our address on our contract was in the wrong order (City before the village in error) so that needed changing too. I think I got the bottom of the barrel to deal with! Talk about get the wrong end of the stick, she was asking me to contact Royal Mail to sort out our postcode!!! In the end she said she'd see her manager and send me an email later. When I got the email she had updated their records with our correct address which is good, but said now I had confirmed a change to the (wrong) address details on our contract (no I hadn't!!) I needed to let the Royal Mail know to update their records before they could let the gas register know!!!! So I've sent off another reply, telling her she needs to re-read our web conversation (I printed it off) and spelled it out again that it there had been no change of address, just the postcode and mistakes in their records. If I have to write again I shall ask them to treat it as a complaint. They shouldn't be delaying our transfer like this as we could lose the good deal we got. :-S How do they keep their jobs I wonder!

It had never been a problem in the past about the meter so I think there may have been a tightening up of things as I suppose there could be legal implications.

Then some of the tiny beads I ordered arrived but were falling out of the jiffybag as I opened it!! They had punched a hole in the little plastic bag the beads were in below the seal so they had run out into the bag. Then they hadn't sealed the jiffy bag with sellotape like other sellers do and the beads were falling out where the flap is. I let the seller on ebay know and sent a photo, but she said there looked 'about enough' beads to her and that she hadn't had any other trouble with them!! So much for customer service! I've replied back and if I get no joy will request a return by ebay as she doesn't accept returns! They get your money back for you if an item is damaged or incomplete! What a hassle though.

Must pack my beads for tomorrow next. I haven't heard to collect my glass yet.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 18 May 2017 22:01

Ann what a day you have had with all that toing and froing. What a lot of nonsense. It makes you wonder who else has wrong details down. As to the beads, well that just takes the biscuit. She should have packed them properly so they did get loose in the post. What did she mean about there looks about enough in there??How cuold she tell without seeing what had already spilled out of the packet.

Morning All,

After yesterdays lovely sunshine and clear skies we now have steady falling rain. Its soming straight down as there is no breeze. I did a biol wash last night so that won't be going out on the line.

So nothing planned for today. I was going back up the border even with my aches and pains this morning but thats not going to happen now.

Suppose it will be HW. ugh :-(

Frank

Frank Report 19 May 2017 11:17

Morning Mel and all, evening Kim,

What a day you had Ann, you can't believe all the red tape that goes on behind the scenes. Have you got it all sorted now.?? As for the Ebay seller I would just open a "DISPUTE" with eBay. Whenever I have had trouble in the passed,, and get no positive response from the seller, I open a dispute. and haven't lost a case yet. They certainly look after their customers.

At last I have my EYE DROPS. Ros picked them up yesterday evening. One is one drop 4 times a day the other one drop 3 times a day, leaving 10 minutes between them. The sting like having a needle stuck in your eye. (not that I have had that) It takes you a few minutes to see properly again. I have to do this for SIX WEEKS, but the drops have to be thrown away after FOUR WEEKS. So I will have to get a repeat.

We have the rain here also Mel, we have the lounge side lights on as it's very dark, and looking at the sky, I don't see any improvement coming any time soon.

Chicken Casserole tonight. I will go and do the Carrots, Mushrooms and onions later, Then I only need to open a tin of tomatoes, and make the gravy with various herbs and spices. I should have remembered what I used last time, as Ros said it tasted very good !!! We will wait and see what the result will be. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Pam next door told us yesterday that the Blackbird is still going into the garage, I expect he's looking for Meal Worms, that we put down when the Robin was nesting. They don't forget where they are well off. !!!

Tony and Val are home tomorrow, I hope the weather has been better for them, than we have had here.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 19 May 2017 11:19

Its my sons 48th birthday today.

Gillx

Gillx Report 19 May 2017 13:25

Afternoon all

Sunny here today and quite warm with it.

What a day you had yesterday Ann, hope everything is all sorted out for you now.

That's a lot of eye drops Frank, be careful getting around if you can't see properly. Pleased to hear the Blackbird is still around. I think we have a few birds nests in our big hedge in the back garden. I keep seeing them going in and out but I haven't seen any babies yet.

Does anyone know when it's safe to cut the hedge, I wouldn't want to disturb the birds and it does need doing. I was thinking around the beginning of July or can I do it earlier?

Happy birthday to your son Mel <3 I have some Corsodyl, so I'll give it a go as my tooth is still sore and so is the gum. It's right in the front so I keep knocking it. If it doesn't clear up soon I'll make an appointment with the dentist, if I need antibiotics for an abscess the doctor won't give them to you and tell you to get them off the dentist instead, which is a bit of a nuisance as our dentist is miles away. The painkillers are helping though, so that's good.

Frank

Frank Report 19 May 2017 16:45

Well you are the lucky one Gill, Not about your tooth, but the weather. It's still cloudy here, but trying to brighten up. I don't think we will see any yellow stuff today, and the forecast isn't great for the weekend.

I would think you could be doing your hedge sometime in the next few weeks. What birds are nesting would have fledged by then. Can you see through the hedge to see if there are any nests.??

No gardening for Madam today, so the sewing machine is working overtime.

Dinner is smelling lovely. It's been on a lowish heat since 3.00 pm So will be ready for 6.00 pm, when we normally eat. Just the potato's to boil and mash, and lot a lot of washing up,which is a bonus.

Interesting programme on BBC 2 about Eagles and hawks. I have learnt some things watching this.

I was saying to Ros, where has the week gone, it only seems a couple of days since I was at the hospital with my eyes, and that was Monday. They do say, the older you get, the faster time goes by.

Had a nice surprise from HMRC today. I and possible most of your OHs can do this. I offset Ros's Married woman allowance to my tax return, and received an extra £212.00 off of my tax bill for this year. What a nice change to get something from them ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) and I expect this to go on each year. I think I might also get a cheque for the passed SIX YEARS allowance. I found out about this from the MARTIN LEWIS PROGRAMME on tele in April. So it might be worth an ENQUIRY to [email protected] you girls or husbands. Worth a try.
