Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 May 2017 15:44

The suns out here now and no my car seats were not at all wet funnily enough. I went to the hsop and got out the other end and no wet botty so that was good.

I bought a cue plant in the shop today but its a long cue and I really like the small ones as its only me that eats it. Still it will make a change.

Frank I am glad your tummy has settle down now. It really makes you feel lifeless after a bout of what you had this morning.

I have had such a big lunch I don't feel like doing anything now. Oh is watching the back of his eyelids so I think I will have to do something to get myself going and pot up this cue.

Salad draws..... I threw away a soggy courgette yesterday that was lurking in the bottom of the draw. Luckily it was in a poly bag so it did'nt make a mess. I have the draw out every shopping day so not a lot goes off in there as I use salad everyday with him and his wraps. My pet HATE is a mouldy lemon. They do stink so and its something I really can't stand. If one does go off I put it in a poly bag and put it in the dustbin but the last time I did that the bag must have hada hole in it as every time I went to put something in the bin all I could smell was the rotten mouldy lemon. Yuk yuk yuk. :-P

Good afternoon all

Still sunny but not quite so hot as there is a fair bit of breeze and we had a light shower in the early hours I read something really sad that a stupid Father had left his baby in the car and the poor little soul had died because of the heat, what a thing to have to live with for the rest of his life

Hope your tummy has settled now Frank and you can enjoy your time with JJ.
I sometimes find a cucumber in the salad drawer that needs to go in the compost, I think we are all guilty of that sometimes. I find potatoes give off a dreadful smell when they go bad.I found a mummified lemon the other day but all the rest were ok in the same net bag.

Good to hear your Mum had a good nights sleep at yours Gill and it's nice she has her friend visiting her today.

Jane sorry to hear you are still having trouble with your fingers, I don't expect all this hot weather helps them. I wonder if Molly's skin problems could be hormone related as two of our boxers developed bald patches as this was diagnosed as the problem.

Have you got your pond set up Mandy? It's lovely to have something like that in this hot weather, Would Max be allowed in to cool off.

It's just Ruby and I at home today, Richard has gone for a long weekend in Manchester, this was planned weeks ago, he is staying at Premier Inn. Most of his holiday friends are going there to support Keith who has Parkinsons there is a charity event tomorrow in the city and they have supporters on the Great Manchester run..

Afternoon All,

Oh dear Frank, I hope you feel better by now. At least you weren't going out this morning. I am guilty like Ros too and seem to throw a lot of stuff away. Cucumber and courgette soon turn to mush. As for sell by dates, sometimes you can't get things with longer dates and we know how time flies!!!!

We had brekkie out this morning, then went to the farm shop. It will be bedlam at most eateries tomorrow so we'll be staying in and having barnsley lamb chops! The furthest we'll be going tomorrow is an open garden at a vicarage. It's a big one with a walled kitchen garden so should be nice without too many people as children prefer to go where there are rides!! This afternoon, instead of us getting on with jobs we decided to go to a garden centre we've never visited before. I thought it looked a bit run down when I checked online and it was! Much cheaper than the bigger ones though and the plants looked healthy. I managed to get a small red flowered plant to fill the last space in my red pot. It is a red pot with red and orange flowers now. We called in the garden centre that has the miniature village in it on the way back and it was an opportunity to look in the room where they hold all kinds of craft classes. Samples of work were on the tables and it did make me want to try some of the things!!

Mel, it sounded like what you saw was what we call sheet lightning. I hate it at night as it makes me jump but there is no sound. You are lucky to be able to leave you car windows open at night and that the rain didn't get in. They'd nick the car round here! I said to OH that I want to dig out my old crooklock thing for when we go away this year and leave my car. So many people are up and down the close now with all the building going on you never know! That was nice to get a surprise present Mel but a shame the clock was broken. They aren't careful enough with packages in the post. Which reminds me, we had a parcel left by a courier the other day. I couldn't believe where he'd left it..........in the kitchen wheelie bin on top of the rubbish in there!!!!! If he was going to leave it in a bin, why not the recycling bin next to it that is mostly full of newspapers and is much cleaner. :-S

Glad your mum is ok Gill. I bet she felt much better after a good night's sleep and was looking forward to seeing her friend. I still have 3 pots to plant up but can't make my mind up what to put in them!!

I slept well again last night. If I sleep well I only get about 5 hours sleep as I wake at about 6.00am..........much better than not sleeping at all though. :-)

I can get badly affected by strong sunshine early in the year with awful headaches and trembliness. I make sure I only have short stints in the sun at the start of the year now, take a drink out with me and make sure I wear a hat......despite OH's sniggers.

Pool should go up on Monday Jane ,Colin has decided he needs to cut some wood tomorrow and the dust might go in the pool.

Thomas has found his cooling spot under the hedge :-D
Has Hannah moved into her new place yet ?

The times i have put my hand in the salad box and stuck my fingers into a cucumber thats gone all soft :-0 or a pepper .
This morning i had to throw out some apricots that had gone mouldy they were in the fruit bowl with the apples and were fine a couple of days ago ,i suppose all this heat doesn't help, does any one keep their fruit in the fridge ? i usually have grapes in the fridge but other fruit i just keep on the side in a fruit bowl.
I never put my tomatoes in the fridge either .

Oh Frank it was the fried onions i bet ,hope little JJ has arrived by now ,perhaps we can have a photo of him now you've found your camera .

Went and joined oh on the bed this afternoon. Its fatal he woke me up at ten past six!!

Its beautiful out there now as the wind has dropped and the suns out. I went and corned the chickens and think they thought I had forgotten them. They were all around my feet so I had a job to get through the gate. Its like wading through thick chocolate when they see the scoop in my hand with their corn in it. I have to tread so carefully and usually manage to step on one of their toes.

Bet Frank is glad to see JJ and will enjoy his company for a couple of days.

Gosh look at the time! I had better get dinner underway. Usual steak so nice and easy.

Love the picture of Thomas Jane, at least the sun was off his head, even if it was still on his toes LOL :-D :-D

Yes, I'd like to see a photo of JJ Frank now you've found your camera, we've all heard so much about him, it'd be nice to see him in the fur :-D :-D ;-) ;-)

Sandra loves her salad so nothing is in the fridge long enough for it to go off. I have had a few leaks go a bit soft but luckily not completely unusable. I just chop the soft bit off the top and use the rest.

I don't blame you for not going far tomorrow Ann, the last time we went out on a bank holiday it took us over an hour to go less than a mile. OH had to go off the main roads just so we could get out of all the traffic. It was a hot day too, so not very pleasant moving at about 2 miles an hour.

Just watching Britain's Got Talent with Sandra. It's gone quite dark outside with the dull weather and has cooled right down. OH has just finished watering all the plants as it didn't rain again in the end.

Morning all,

Dry start to the day and its quite bright. There are some patches of blue sky up there too so hopefully the sun may come out later on.

Nothing planned for today just hte usual big breakfast and see what else takes my fancy to do during the day. I might clean the chickens out as they need it and the bantams too.

We have been seeing a young fox during the late afternoon. Its skinny and bright red.

Shot a tree rat yesterday on the bird table and oh shot a rabbit yesterday too but I still saw a big one when I went to shut the chickens in yesterday. The plants on the border are much better this year and I have tops on the phlox!!!!! 4 of them.

Morning Mel morning all

A dull day here today, very overcast but nice and cool. I woke this morning feeling very dizzy. I think I was a bit dehydrated as I soon started feeling a bit better once I'd had a few cups of tea. Still got a bit of a headache though. I hope it cools down at night soon as I'm getting far to hot. OH suggested I took some water to bed so I can keep my fluids up through the night, so I'll do that as I don't want to wake up feeling bad again. Mind you I didn't get much sleep last night with the heat.

Thanks Mel for the information. I was so excited when I noticed you'd found Thomas in the 1911 census. Would it be possible to have a copy of the census please? Thanks. At least we know he never married or had any children, so all I need to do now is find his death record then he's finished.

I wonder what happened to him between 1861 and 1911 I never did find him on another census after his granddad died........very strange :-S
50 years is a long time to disappear.

Thank you for all your help, I never would of got very far without it.......you're a star <3

Yes it is the BBQ today Mel. Hope the weather is nice for you Frank :-) Enjoy your time with JJ when you get back home <3

Evening all,

Another hot day ,we have been outside most of the day ,family came this morning and after they went Colin started on his wood cutting and i have been weeding the block paving ,it would so much easier to use weed killer but with Max about we carn't use it.
Colin had just about finished when his saw stopped working so he put it away to look at tomorrow ,i went down to get some thing from the fridge in the shed and noticed the light didn't come on in the fridge ,i tried the main light in the shed and that didn't come on so i told Colin and he looked to see if the trip switch was up and it was so he turned it back down and the fridge came on ,the saw must have blown the trip good job i wanted some thing from the fridge as both the freezers were off too and it might have been a day or two before we noticed and we would have lost all our frozen food .

Hope Frank felt better to go to the BBQ ,he'll have company now little JJ .

Jane Report 28 May 2017 18:37

Evening All

Well I feel like a right wet weekend today.I had Franks trouble last night and spent from 2.30 until about 4.30 on and off the loo and feeling so sick too. Thought I was going to faint at one point with sweat dripping off me. The only thing I can think that might have made me bad was possibly taking my antibiotic and antifungal tablets too close together before I went to bed. Who knows.I ate the same as Chris so can't think it was the food.

Gill ,I think when it is hot we sometimes forget we need to keep topped up with water /liquids.It does sound as though you were dehydrated. Hopefully now the headache has gone and you are feeling ok again.

So Squirrel and Rabbit gone Mel. That was 2 good shots then. I daren't say it but I haven't spotted a rabbit in the garden for ages now. Squirrel yes. That ittle devil has been eating the birds jar of Flutter Butter :-S

At least the weather has not broken here and that it is still nice and dry for the BBQ. I don't know if it was a lunch time one or evening.

I did manage to nip out swiftly today to get 14 Geranium Plants for my pots in the front garden. :-D Think it will be a very early night for me (and Chris),poor man .He must have been cheesed off with me in and out of bed like a YoYo light going on and off.

I have a small bit of Lamb in cooking ,and some Lemon and Herb roast potatoes . Hopefully I will fancy it when it is all done . I had to cook the Lamb as I took it out of the freezer last night.

I have just arranged today to meet up in London with an old friend from Nailsea(Bristol) where we lived when I had Hannah. We met at the anti natal classes .She had twin boys. I have only seen her once since then and that must be about 10 years ago at least. Probably nearer 15. So that is planned for July 4th :-D I am sure it will just be like the old days :-)

Sorry to hear you've not been very well Jane. I've been ill all day, still feeling dizzy and now feeling a little sick with it. I've drank plenty and eaten, even had an hours sleep but nothing seems to be working. I'm in front of a fan too. Hope I feel better tomorrow and it's not some sort of bug I've got. At least I can walk better than this morning as I could hardly stand up then. Hope you are feeling better now.
How nice to see your friend again, that'll be something to look forward to.

Good job you spotted the leccy had gone off Mandy, as like you said your freezers weren't on either so you would of lost all your frozen food. Did the saw overheat that tripped the leccy off? That happened with OH last year when we were working in the garden and his saw burnt out. He had to get a new one in the end. It sounds like you've been busy in your garden. You're right you can't really use weed killer with Max around.

Hope Frank has had a nice time at the BBQ, by what you were saying Jane it looks like the weather was good for him.

Jane

Jane Report 28 May 2017 19:28

Gill, I wonder if it is a bug you have .Hopefully just a 24hr one and that tomorrow you will be feeling back to normal again.

Mandy thank goodness you haven't lost your frozen food .It is weird how somthing like a saw can trip the leccy .I wonder why it happens :-S

Yes I am looking forward to meeting up with Gill again. It has been far too long. Both her twin boys are married ,one with a child I think. Her daughter is a Lawyer.I can imagine most of the conversation will be about the 'kids' LOL and hopefully she might be able to get me up to date with all the other girls who were in the same anti natal group. We all used to meet up one a week at eachothers houses with all the babies. .I think there were 8 babies .So you can imagine the chaos lol. All them now 34 !!!!!
Those years have gone so quickly.

It is very still outside .Hardly a breath of air.Lots of Green fly about :-| I keep getting wasps in the house too.

Evening All,

Lovely sunshine here all day. Our lamb dinner with jersey royals went down a treat and then we went to see the open garden at Burley near Oakham afterwards. We managed to park just round the corner which was lucky. We both said it was one of the most tidy, well organised gardens we have seen! The conservatory had fruit trees trained up the back wall and there were lovely ripe peaches on one. The borders were lovely and they had standard Wisteria in white with the flowers hanging down. I'll see how my pics turned out and send a few if I can.

Thomas looked very content under the Yew hedge Jane and his paws were so white.....even underneath! Sorry you had such a grim night with trips to and fro. I hate those kind of nights when you just want time to pass quickly and to feel better. That will be interesting to meet your old friend after all these years, so much to catch up on.

We were invited to my friend's 70th, a picnic in her field, but can't go on the date she's having it. Her hubby used to play in a Blues Band and she founded a Leicester Jazz Club in the 70s. I think a lot of the musicians will be there and she's said to bring their instruments so I wonder what her ponies will make of that!

Gill, I think this heat can make you feel like that when you wake up so it's a good idea to have some water handy to drink like your OH says. It sounds like you are knocking down those brick walls in your family tree with some help from Mel. :-)

Oh Mandy how lucky were you with your fridges! I'm always worried OH will switch ours off by mistake when we go away!! We use a weedkiller that is safe for pets and is harmless once it reaches the ground. Mind you, I expect he is liable to stick his nose into the watering can!!

Annx Report 28 May 2017 21:11

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 May 2017 21:28

I can't use weed killer near the ponds and I get lots of weeds come up on the edge of the patio and the pond is down from that so I boil the kettle and pour boiling water on them and it soon kills them. Much safer for the birds I feed on the patio too.

Ann the garden you visited sounds very nice I can't wait to see your lovely pictures of it.

Poor Gill. You should see the doctor if your no better tomorrow as this seems to be happening to you a lot lately.

Our leccy tripped out today too but I noticed straight away as the pc went off. Oh had turned osmething on in the garage or the filter shed. Clock arrived today, the replacement and oh put it up on the filter shed. I told him where to put it and he says it is too low.

Gillx

Gillx Report 28 May 2017 22:08

Still feeling under the weather so I'm going to have an early night to see if that helps. I've put the fan on in the bedroom to cool it down a bit, so with a bit of luck I'll sleep better than I did last night. I'm going to make an appointment with the doctor tomorrow if I'm no better. The last time I was like this was when we went to the Ruby wedding party and it turned out to be an ear infection, so it might be the same this time. I've tried everything to feel better today but nothing seems to have helped apart from a few cups of tea this morning.

The ladybird photo was unusual Ann, I've never seen one like that before. It sounds like you had a nice time out. Hope the traffic wasn't to bad for you. What a shame you can't make it to your friends 70th birthday, it sounds like fun.

I've never heard of boiling water killing weeds, I'll have to try that. It's a good idea, as like you said Mel you can't put weed killer near your pond. Pleased to hear the new clock arrived okay this time. Thank you for all your help today, I was so pleased when you found Thomas in the 1911 census as it showed he was still in the area and that he never married so I can stop looking for a wife and children for him now :-)

It sounds like you'll have lots to talk about Jane when you meet up with Gill. Sandra is 32 now and I was saying the same thing to OH about the years passing so quickly, it only seems like yesterday she was a baby. Hope you find out what happened to all the other women, it should be an interesting day catching up on all those years.

Signing out now as I'm feeling a bit queasy, dizzy and tired, so I'm off to bed.

Bit dull and grey today and there's a little light rain. Typial Bank Holiday weather.

Oh is sucking the big pond out and I shall go and do the birds and look for my slice feeder for the wild birds as its missing off the bird feeder. I expect its the Jackdaws as they take anything that moves.

Frank Report 29 May 2017 11:09

Good morning it is not again, Evening Kim.

Had a lovely afternoon with the party people. We arrived about midday and Mark had the BBQ well under way. The table was laid out with loads of nibbles, plates of salad and potato salad and more than I can remember. In total there were 20 people there. Little Alexander had a day to remember (not that he will) Presents everywhere. The garden there is enormous Acres and Acres and at the bottom is a River/stream that is full of CHUB. I did get a fair bit of exercise asking round the ESTATE.

We left at 6.00 pm and just as we pulled up at Carolyn's she was just going to take JJ for a walk. Which she did, and bought him round an hour or so later. He was so worn out, that he crashed onto the sofa beside Ros and slept all evening. I let him out at 11.30 when I want to bed. When I got up this morning, he was still in the same place, and I had a job to raise him to go for a wee. He's now crashed out on the sofa again !!!

I had another terrible night's sleep. Heartburn for an hour or more. Had some Galveston. Then Ros came to bed and snored the night away. I can't recall the number of times I dug her in the ribs. On top of that I dreamt of a group of Indian's who mugged me and stole my wallet, computer, and lots of other bits I had in the computer bag. Conrad, Harvey and I drove around the streets trying to find them. We found them at last sitting on a sandy beech dangling their feet in the water.

So you can imagine I am not a "HAPPY BUNNIE" this morning. and feel totally worn out, even though I haven't done a thing. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Jan,Jo and Ella will pick JJ up sometime mid afternoon. They will also try to get the mower in the boot with everything else. We have JJ again in July when Jo goes to Spain to see Conrad, and again n October when she takes Ella to Disney World, Florida.

My SIL Fran (Bill's wife) rang last night to say that Saturday her daughter came over to take her in her wheel chair to see my Sister Mary. By the sounds of things they are both in the same boat. NOT EATING, having trouble sleeping and loosing weight. Both are down to 7 stone 6 lbs. so you might say Wasting away. She made me smile when she said "They couldn't make one decent BOOB between them !!! Mary was a BIG GIRL when she was younger. and Fran had a nice figure. I rang me sister also to see how she was. Her som Paul was there, and I had a few words with him. Thanking him for all he is doing for Mary. He said "Frank she is my Mother" which I thought said it all.

Haven't read any posts, but I assume you are all well.

What a humid day it is, we had rain last night and this morning the water is dripping off me. I am sitting here in my u/pants and still boiling hot. No sign of any yellow stuff.
