Sorry to hear you have had a fall Frank and are in pain. A hot shower sounds just the thing. Hope you have a good nights sleep and aren't in to much pain tomorrow.

OH's oldest brother is having kidney stones removed, they are to big for him to pass on his own and he has so many he's in a lot of pain. OH's mum is at her wits end with everything that's happening to her son's and to top it all her grandson (OH's sister's son) has split up from his partner, so might be going to stay with her.
On a positive OH's eldest brother's wife (SIL) has just had the all clear from her breast cancer, so lets hope that's the start of some good things happening in the family.

Thanks everyone for your advice on cooking and freezing tomatoes. I might make a tomato sauce then freeze that unless I can think of something else to make with them, it would be such a shame to have to throw some of them away because we couldn't eat them all before they went off, I might also freeze some as they are, then use them in a recipe when I'm ready. I still have quite a few more to pick yet, so plenty to sort out over the next few weeks.

I'm pleased to hear your new bed is comfy Liz. What type of new bedding did you get in the end? I remember doing Sandra's room for her and everything was PINK :-D :-D It was around Christmas time so I treated her to a pink Christmas tree to go in her room too.......she loved it.

I'm off to bed now, I didn't realise how late it was, see you all tomorrow.

Morning all,
Lovely sunny day but how long it will last I don't know. They forcast rain and said the jet stream was right over us bringing lows over England.

Liz we still want to know what colour bedding you bought for the new bed please? We are nosy arn't we? Hope you had another good nights sleep on the new bed.

I was sitting here at my desk on the pc last night and keeping an eye on the moniter for any hogs coming in the garden when suddenly right in front of the camera dropped a spider. It cam out very white on the night vision. I did laugh as I had seen a spiders web hanging down from the shelter box. It soon went back up so I shall have to go and sweep it out but it may be harder than I think.

Morning All

Lovely bright and sunny morning here with a fair breeze. (Just right for getting the washing out)
I am having a morning of a bit of housework while the Joint of Beef is in roasting . As my fingers are so much better I can't really put off all these jobs now . I will still be wearing gloves for certain jobs though.

Frank Report 31 Jul 2017 11:02

Morning Mel, Jane and all, Evening Kim.

Had my shower and was in bed by 10.15 pm Was out again by 12.30 Reading my book until 2.45 am. I was still awake at 4.00 and awake again at 7.30. So all in all not a good night.

I have a nice bruise starting to come on my right upper arm and my side and backside feels sore. (SO I HAVE A SORE BUM MUM!!!)

Ross new glass's are not right for her, so she's going back this morning, also one of her hearing aids has broken, so that's got to go back to the hospital. She has finished doing two of Martines seats, so will drop them off and pick up another two, to do tonight.

Bright sunshine here earlier, but the good old cloud in rolling in. Mel, I saw the forecast regarding the JET STREAM. Not looking good for us is it ??

I have the job of collecting all the broken Glass from the greenhouse, so it can go in the bin for tomorrow. I suppose Ros will be by my side while I do it, or I might fall through another panel ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-).

Going to have another HOT shower this morning to try to relax my stiff body. :-| :-|

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Jul 2017 11:10

You poor old thing Frank. I am glad that Ros is going with you when you pick the glass up. Sorry you had a bad night too but it could have been the upset of the two falls and banging your head.

My finger is still twanging. I can't remember if I was doing something and my hand twanged or if I was gardening and it gave me a nasty twang. It hurts when I close my fist up tight and pulls on the knuckle at the base where it jopins my hand so when you make a fist and then straighten my fingers out it goes twang like the sinew has moved to the other side somehow.

Frank

Frank Report 31 Jul 2017 13:41

So no thumping the OH then Mel LOL LOL. Have you tried giving it a good rub with the other hand with a bit of cream. You might have strained it doing some of your jobs.

I have just had a ham roll and a chocolate eclair with a cup of coffee. That will see me through till tonight. I have a tray of Pigs liver out of the freezer. That will go with fried onions, peas and creamy mash. It will make a nice change, I like a bit of offal. I would have stuffed hearts, but madam wouldn't entertain them. I loved those as a child when Meat was on ration and offal wasn't. You had to eat what was available, and feeding seven couldn't have been easy. Good old MUM. xxx

I just went out the back and the sun has really got some heat in it. I have hooked back the conservatory door and opened the lounge windows, so there's a nice breeze coming through.

I have just ordered another SEVEN Martina Cole's books, for £9.99 including P & P as and when I read them Ros will take them to the charity shop. So it just goes on and on.

The glass collection can wait until we are ready to do it, as the bin isn't until next Tuesday for the glass and plastic's. Black bin tomorrow !!!

Have given the remains of the lamb to Pam next door for Ammie. I am sure she will enjoy that later. Better than throwing it away, as neither of us like cold lamb.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunshine, see you later xx

The sun has gone and the clouds are gathering, as is the wind. I have had to close the door and windows as it's blowing a gale though the bungalow.

Gill I am sorry I didn't mention about all your family problems, hope everything is sorting it's self out. When I had kidney stones they blasted them. t was very painful at the time, and I just kept pulling away. One of the staff held me in position while another operated the machine. Glad to say I have no trouble since.

Still home alone. I bet Ros has been run off her feet ,going all over the place getting these things sorted.

I have been really lazy, sitting in my chair reading all afternoon. How nice and peaceful everywhere is.!!!!

Jane

Jane Report 31 Jul 2017 18:17

Frank,if Ros is still out I hope you haven't attempted to pick all the glass up on your own (we all know what you are like LOL ) . Hope all your bruises and aches soon disappear . You probably feel like you have been run over by a bus at the moment.

Mel you have been having trouble with your finger for ages now. Do you think it might be worth having it looked at?

Gill, life for you and the family sounds so stressful . What with the BIL having his Chemo ,the other one having his Kidney Stones operation ,the Grandson splitting up and maybe moving in with OH's Mum !!!!! That is too much for anyone. But as you say a ray of light with the all clear for the Sister in Law . That is great news.

I was woken this morning by the smell of smoke(or something burning) . I knew it was from outside but couldn't work out where it was coming from. All day today we have been getting this smell every now and then. It is all very puzzling.

James has just arrived and said his freind Jake has just become a Daddy to a baby girl .Called Beaula ? Never heard of that one before. Mum and Baby all well :-D

Evening all,

It's been a nice sunny day here ,we have been giving the pool a good clean out today ,there's lots of little seed bits off the sycamore trees keep blowing in ,

Frank i'm sorry to see you've had a fall ,you were very lucky you didn't cut yourself on all the glass ,do be careful when you clear it up there's bound to be some nasty shards of it laying about .
The books are a good buy for seven of them , they should keep you going for a while .

Hows the itching today Mel ? i hope your not getting it back again .
I bet you were surprised to see the spider :-D it was probably quite small but being so close to the camera it would make it look huge i expect .

Ann i hope the tummy's better ,what a good thing you didn't go with OH ,it would have been nice to meet up if you had come as Fakenham is only about twelve miles from us , i did read that Ollie Murs was at the football in Fakenham on Saturday.
There's been a couple of those ram raids here lately one in Deepdale and the other in Wells ,that was the Co op too.

Jane that's so good to hear you think the fingers are on the mend now ,it's been quite a while you've been in pain with them .
What a dear little dog Lola is ,i bet Hannah won't want her to go home ,i love the photo of her looking out the window .

Gill what a time your family are having ,i can quite understand your MIL being so upset ,what a stressful time for them all ,it's been one thing after another .
Good news for your SIL though getting the all clear from the breast cancer .

Are you keeping the pool up Mandy? Lots of weeks yet to go with the school holidays and we may yet get some more nice hot weather :-D
They have set up Kettering by the Sea again this year in the Market Square. They fill it with sand (like a beach) and have all kinds of activities going on for the children. Not being near the coast I think it is a lovely idea. They may have those water fountains too that suddenly spurt up so the children can run in and out of them. :-D
They didn't have that when my 2 were little. They would have loved that. I always felt sorry for Hannah and James not living near the coast as I remember having so much fun down on the beach every day in the summer when I was a child.
After school the Mums would make up a big picnic and all the families would meet on the beach . They were really happy days :-D :-D

MillymollyAmanda Report 31 Jul 2017 19:42

Oh yes we're keeping the pool up for the littleones ,hopefully we'll have some more hot weather so they can use it ,we have to give it a good hoovering out once a week and the filters have to be cleaned .

What a lovely idea having the "beach " i bet the children love it when the water spurts out :-D

Talking of sand i had to smile the other day when i was in Tesco's, they had a young lad sitting at a table with loads of that play sand ready for children to play with ,there were no children about and he looked bored to death , i bet he drew the short straw ,he didn't look like he wanted to play !! :-D

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Jul 2017 23:03

They make some good things up for the children in their holidays. We had nothing like that when we were young but we had our freedom to roam the river banks and make camps with our friends. Can you imagine children on trollies going down the roads nowadays?

I thought of something yesterday and forgot to mention it but do any of you remember those big red weighing machines that had a huge round dial at the top and you put in a 1d or something small and it spoke your weight and delivered a little card? I don't know what made me think of it it just popped into my head. They had one in Woolworths I think in Gants Hill or you got them in stations.

Morning all,

We have the yellow stuff this morning but I don't know how long it will last.

Slept well last night so feel refreshed this morning.

Shopping day today and I don't know whether to go to Lidl or Morrisons. I need some of Lidl stuff so I may go there as I have plenty of cider in store for oh.

Can't open the pic forwarded by Jane of Ruby.

Frank how are you feeling this morning, are you bruised?

magpie Report 1 Aug 2017 10:38

Yes, I remember those weighing machines Mel, they had them in Woolworths when I was little!
Our bedding is basically blue, four fitted sheets, one purple one dark blue one light, and one very pale lilac. I've kept a couple of old sheets that JUST fit, in case!! The duvet covers are on order and haven't arrived yet so we're using an old one, which again, just fits. To be honest I've got all sorts of colours collected over the years as I'm not THAT bothered about what matches what, so long as it looks ok and doesn't 'shriek' (if you know what I mean?!) It's fine by both of us! The bed and mattress are beautifully comfortable, and having room to spread is fab!
Sunny here, so into the garden till the clouds gather!

Well you are only in the bedroom at night and then the lights out so you ddon't see it much anyway Liz.

I am glad I am not the only one who remembers those weighing machines. I don't think you see the bubble gum machines either. Remember the 6d bar of choc from a machine too. I wonder how many of those melted in the machines when it was hot?

Frank Report 1 Aug 2017 12:39

Afternoon my lovelies including Kim. xx

Would you believe just after 6.00 am this morning the phone rang. I thought OH NO, bad news about someone. But no, it stopped ringing so Ros did a 1471 and it was Brian (Martines Husband) She rang back thinking something was wrong, but he was playing with his phone and hit redial. Martine rang us last night. I am thinking do I ring him at 2.00 am when I can't sleep, and see how he likes it. Silly Bu@@er playing with his phone at that time in the morning !!! So I was up by 6.30 having a COT and reading my book.

Yes Mel, I remember those weighing machines and the 6d choch. machines. They were on almost every station on the Central Line, when I worked in the City in the 50s I liked the chocolate raisins. Also do you remember the hot Chestnut sellers with the paper cones they were 6d a cone. Lovely, on a cold winters evening, walking to Liverpool Street Station.

Bruises starting to come out on my arm, back and bum. Ros won't let me near the glass, as I am not very steady on my legs. When Pam next door heard about my fall. She said call TRACEY and she will come and pick beans and dig potato's. I said I am not having her as my "LACKIE" (sp)

Harvey is coming up on Sunday, so I will see if he will put the new glass in the greenhouse (I have spares in the shed) also cut my lawns.

Lovely Photo of Ruby, she does seem to be growing, I can't believe she is 7 months old. Where has that time gone ??

When we had Lewis when he was young, We would take him to the Embankment at Wellingborough where they had those jets of water coming out of the play area, he loved it. I bet the car knew it's way there in those days LOL. No folks, there was nothing like that when ours were young. I use to get the hose out on very warm days and put the sprinkler on, for them to run in and out of. Most kids love playing in water.

Sunny first thing, but now clouding over and windy. Ros is down the garden clearing away my damage, so I hope she is careful . I don't want any accidents.

Frank

Frank Report 1 Aug 2017 15:18

Glass all cleared away, and she has put in the new glass. WHAT A STAR <3 <3 <3 She has bought up a bucket of Potato's, apples, beans and carrots. I have scrubbed the potato's and carrots, dried them off, and they are in the veg tray. The beans can go in the salad draw, the apples can be stewed down and frozen.

The rain has finally arrived, behind the wind. Very gloomy outside now, and turned warm, I am topless and still HOT. Don't get excited !!!

I had all my 7 books turn up this morning. They are very clean condition and packed so well. They should keep me going for a few weeks.

Shin of beef tonight in a lovely gravy, Mash, home grown cabbage and swede.

I can't believe I am down to ONE CAN of beer, so will have to go without tonight !!! or go to the pub, which somehow I don't think will happen. My legs are a bit on the shaky side, and I don't think I will enjoy the walk.

A good nature programme on BBC 2 so will go and watch that. Stay dry, as it's very wet here.

Afternoon all,

It's been a lovely day, lots of sun shine but it now clouded over and started to drizzle.
We've been weeding and took a load of garden rubbish to the tip this morning, it was nice and quiet there so we could get right up to the bins .

I couldn't open the photo of Ruby either .

Hope you've got all your shopping done in the dry today Mel, i can remember the big red weighing scales in Woolies , also the Bubble Gum machines, i liked the hot roasted salted Peanuts you could buy in little bags in the shops.

I can remember going into the bakery with mum and they had a big glass case with what i thought were big bars of chocolate in , one of the ladies that worked in there gave me one and i was so disappointed when i opened it to find it was only a block of wood !!! :-D

Had to buy a new back door mat as some little black devil thought he would have a good chew on the old one .

Jane

Jane Report 1 Aug 2017 16:57

Afternoon All

I see Ros kept you well away from the glass Frank :-D :-D. She knows you are far safer kept indoors LOL .She certainly got load from the garden picking.
We have been very disappointed with the Carrots this year. At least we had some .Not like the last 2 years when we got none !!
The Kale had to be pulled up as it was all diseased(or eaten by something). But everything else seems to be doing really well.

I have often had my phone ring at an early hour and it is usually my Sister doing something on her mobile and it rings me by mistake. Like you said when it is so early you imagine an emergency .It makes me feel quite sick when it happens.
Then I get the silent ones too which drive me totally up the wall.
The call I keep getting now on a daily basis is a recorded message about replacement windows ARRRRGGGHHH ! :-P Even when I press 9 to remove my number it never works.

Ann said she was hoping to be on the thread today. I wonder why it is so hard to open her pics sometimes. I did manange but couldn't seem to send it on opened. It is a lovely pic of Ruby wearing a very pretty red bow tie :-D :-D

How is the itching and finger today Mel? Is Lidl anywhere near Morrisons?

Liz, Sometimes I have mis matched things on the bed. It is usually the pillowcases that don't match .It happens when I can't find the right ones and just think s** it . No-one is going to see or even bother lol Least of all me :-D

Hannah and Gareth will be busy packing now ready for the off to Croatia and Montenegro. They have a taxi booked for 2.30 am to get to the airport.I think the flight to Dubrovnik is around 6 or 6.30.

What a warm day it has been. Just one tiny shower just now . There is a fair bit of blue sky now :-D :-D.We thought it was going to be really raining this afternoon.

I remember those HUGE weighing machines. Weren't they big !!! . So big that everyone could see what weight you were :-S.. The bit you had to stand on wobbled if I remember correctly .I think my Mum was often getting on one. I wonder why they were so big. Years ago when the children were little I would hop on the more modern one in Boots as long as there was no-one around :-D :-D

I am having a bit of trouble with the skin peeling on the side and a bit of the sole on my foot.It is very sore to walk on today. Chris has very kindly put a stick on dressing for me (he hates getting too close to my feet !) . I said they were nice and clean as I had a bath this morning :-D

I see I have an email come through . I am hoping it is to say I have been refunded for 2 dresse I sent back weeks ago. I was told on the 15 th July I would be refunded within 5 working days . So I got in touch yesterday to say I was still waiting. I did have a reply earlier today apologising and it said they would sort the refund out this afternoon and i would get an email telling me it was done. Fingers crossed :-D I think it is was a genuine mistake (but who knows). I always like to think the best of people :-D
Going to have a look now.
