We've got a picking of runners tonight!! new potatoes from the garden and chicken breasts. Our carrots are doing well as is spinach sweet corn and courgettes!! I gave some to the dustbin men this morning, they seemed very pleased! Trouble is everything seems to come at once and we struggle to eat them as our appetites are nothing like they used to be.
Better go and scrub these spuds!

LOL Mandy. As long it was just the mat Max chewed. Has he finished with chewing furniture legs? And taking the buttons off the cooker?

Just having a rain shower here now. I expect Thmas will be in shortly .
Last night he was so funny. Just before `i gave up calling him in he wandered up the lawn with the tiniest baby rabbit in his mouth. He went straight under the hedge with it but then came straight in. As soon as he hit the carpet in the lounge he just flopped right in the doorway between the Kitchen and the lounge . There was no moving him.He was out for the count. I reckon he had a right belly full of little bunnies :-S. I had to lift him up and move him on to his night bed(the settee) where he just lay where I dropped him LOL. It was just like a drunk !!.

Frank you will just have to SIP your one can of beer tonight and make it last while you read the first of your 7 new books :-D :-D
I have just ordered a couple of new books for my kindle.

Did anyone watch The Man in the Orange Shirt last night? Second programme tonight). I thought it was excellent.
I also want to watch the programme tonight with the 4yr olds in the Elderly People's Home. I think it will be really interesting.

The Man In The Orange Suit didn't grab us last night Jane by I may try and watch it on catch up. Tonight is 'In the Dark' which we will be watching!
Did anyone watch the remembrance commemoration in Belgium yesterday? It was very moving and beautifully done.
I used to hate it when we had a puss that used to catch rabbits particularly babies it was just horrible hearing them scream! It really upset me, so I don't envy you Jane.

Good evening all

Thank you Jane for passing on Ruby's pic, Richard is using his new camera and my new email system for some reason doesn't send them on too well, I will have to ask Paul who is better at sorting out computer problems in the end I copied it from his face book entry.

Richard is off this week and we have been sorting out the garage and last week I had Becky staying with us, she is back on Thursday prior to us going on holiday on Friday.

I haven't managed to read all the posts yet so will try and catch up later,

I loved your photo of Thomas the other day Jane and the one of the little dog Lola too.

Just going to sort out the vegetables for dinner as the shepherds pie is already in the oven

Jane

Jane Report 1 Aug 2017 19:41

Where are you off on your hols Ann? Or Holibobs as my Hannah would say :-D
It is a shame that the email pic of Ruby is difficult to see . I am glad I managed it as it is a lovely pic :-)

Last of In the Dark tonight Liz. Another great series. I didn't see the remembrance commemoration in Belgium . But can just imagine how emotional it must have been.

I seem to have tissues at the ready these days for various programmes.
I even had a little tear last night watching One born every minute !. I don't even know why I watched that programme as I never do. I would never have been wanting to be filmed having my babies (even though they were both 'booked' C Sections.

Dinner ready now . All from frozen. Youngs Beer Battered fish, Chips (McCains) and our home grown frozen Peas and Broad Beans.

Evening All,

You are really close to Fakenham then Mandy. I'll bear that in mind if he goes another time as it would be nice to meet up. The match he went to was just outside Fakenham as he's not so keen on big matches. He's interested in the grounds and I think there was something about it......maybe it was going to close soon!! Naughty Max having a chew. I suppose the little monkey does it when no-one is looking!! I hope we get some more nice weather so the pool can be enjoyed....there's plenty of time yet!

What a nice pic of not so little Ruby Anne! I can't believe she's 7 moths old. Where are you off to for your hols? You may have said but my memory is not reliable. I took a letter to post when we went out this afternoon and told OH not to let me forget to post it and we both forgot! :-S He's taken it with him to a match tonight so I hope he remembers this time.

Since I've lived here (17 years) I've always bought matching curtains and duvet covers. The bedrooms are quite small with small windows, so the curtains are cheaper being smaller and I always buy them in the sales. I sometimes stick an old, non matching but not clashing sheet or pillowcase on if it's rained so much the washing is all behind. The main thing is that stuff is clean really though and I don't issue bedroom invites so no-one sees really. The duvet cover isn't seen much in the day anyway because I fold it and the sheet back to let the bed air.

Having had a lovely pet bunny that was very clever and would jump the little run of fences I put up in the garden, I have rather a soft spot for them. I know they are pests but I'm afraid I would be in tears at the carnage and it would prey on my mind. I'd be buying a cat bell the size of Big Ben. I've given up putting bird food out for now as it doesn't seem right to lure them as we have 6 cats in the close now.

Frank, she doesn't fail to impress does she? A fixer of greenhouse panels as well now!! I bet you were surprised to see she'd done it.

Oh Gill, you do have a lot to be sad about just now! It is good news the breast cancer is clear now though. A friend of mine had a kidney stone and she said it was the worst pain she'd known so he will be glad to be rid of them.

What a lovely childhood to have the beach as your playground Jane! I would have loved that. At least living in a small village till I was 9 I was able to play on the farm across the road and there was common land covered in bracken nearby where you could build dens and a large hill for sledges or a tin tray!

We still have a dilpidated sweet machine fixed to the wall of a shop in the village. I must have a closer look next time, but I think it has pull out trays so probably sold chocolate bars. I remember the big scales with the dial too.

Ye gods did anyone see where two robots that were programmed to use limited language, started to invent their own language to talk to each other and the experiment they were doing had to be stopped!!! Scary stuff!! Also the driverless cars prog that was on last night. It seems that if there is nowhere to park outside your house, you will be able to send it to look for a parking space elsewhere, then summon it to your house when you want to use it. It occurred to me that everybody, driver or not, would be able to have a car (or two?) so traffic would increase and where would we all park? The future is certainly going to be different.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Aug 2017 22:44

Was tired out when I got back from shopping and I was later back as I had to go to the bank and having paid a £1 for parking went up the high st. Got a couple of bits in Pound Stretcher and bought myself a hot pasty just before getting in the car. Then off to Morrisons but I did'nt do Lidl too as I was worn out.

We had a mistery yesterday and I meant to tell you about it but forgot! Oh put the bins out yesterday morning and did it with the mower and trailer so he drives around the village hall carpark. Went up for more sand about an hour later and the recycling had been so he went out the front and round the carpark to pick the box up. On the edge of the carpark next to the road was a huge pool of blood and it looked like little foot prints up the road for a way past Les's whose bungalow is on the edge f the capark. I had'nt seen it as I did'nt go out yesterday and it rained in the night. Today when I went out I had a look and the blood was still there and the foot prints up the road. Oh thinks it could have been a deer hit by a car but it lost an awful lot of blood and I don't think it woud have servived. Or did someone take the carcas away?????? I don't think we will ever know. When Jane up the raod delivered the newsletter this morning I asked her but she knew nothing about it.

Frank I think the last time I had hot chesnuts in a paper cone was at Walthamstow markert with mum and dad. Dad bought some and we walked up the market eating them. There was snow in the air too so it must have been around Christmas time. Mum bought me a nice royal blue anorak there. It was lovely and warm.

I watched the program with the tots and oap's. It was very good.

Picked my first courgette this morning. Its only growing in a bag. I have three cues ready on my plant so shall have to give a couple away as oh dos'nt eat it and I think thats what may have been giving me indigestion so have been keeping clear of it. There again home grown may not have the same effect.

My beans are getting longer but still have no real body to them. They are different to the uusual ones I grow.

Stewed some of the plums tonight so they will be nice with custard tomorrow. I just love plums and custard. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Saw two hogs last night eating out ofthe two bowls and they stayed there quite a while. I took some pics but hav'nt downloaded tjhem yet.

Frank Report 2 Aug 2017 11:33

Morning sweet things, evening Kim,

Liz, I saw part of the Parade and had a lump in my throat. Back in 1984/5 I had the chance to go to France, Belgium ,Germany to visit the war graves and battle grounds of both the 1st and 2nd WW. To stand and see row after row of graves of young men 17,18,19 years of age was heart rendering. It's a sight that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I always watch any ceremonies that I can on T.V. and love the Remembrance Service from the Albert Hall, Never missed in this house.

Happy anniversary Mel and Andrew. ours will be FORTY next year, !!!

Any news on the refund Jane ?? You have to keep an eye on these companies don't you. How many rabbits can Thomas eat in a session, being a big cat I bet it's two or three. :-( :-( The one this about it is, it must save Chris's Veg patch being invaded.

Ros is at hospital this morning. Val round the corner has taken her, as she has to have a ring fitted to try to cure the prolapsed Bladder trouble. Poor thing. If that doesn't work it will mean an operation. When they tried before she screamed the place down.. (sorry, I am just worried for her ) <3 <3 <3

Ann the times that Ros has a letter of card to post and forgets to take in with her. I think it's an AGE THING. !!!

Horrible day here, very windy and cloudy. I expect we will see the wet stuff later, :-| :-|

I am still unsteady on my "old pins" so using my stick around the bungalow. The right side of my body is still sore and aching. AHHHHH.

Not a good night again last night (LACK OF BEER) LOL. was back in the lounge ready by midnight until 2.30. They do say the older you get the less sleep you need.

I rang my SIL to speak with my sister this morning, she wasn't there. She said she had her Grand daughter staying with her. We had a good chat, then I rang my sister. It turns out that my SIL had told her not to come to stay until next Monday, so she made up the story that her GD was staying. She is having to rely on her neighbours to call in and see that she in O.K. the neighbour is getting her lunch and dinner each day. Her Son will be back from holiday next Tuesday, She told me that my SIL isn't prepared to cook while she's there and to bring a supply of ready meals. !!! So Mary thought Bu@@er her and as it appeared she didn't want her at her house, she would manage on her own. FAMILIES or WHAT !!!

Frank, we're like you, and always watch any commemoration to do with both wars and I do envy you having been to the battle fields. We would love to go as OH's grandfather was killed in the final days of WW1, by a snipers bullet, and my paternal second cousin was killed aged just 20, and is remembered on the Menin Gate. My grandfather joined up in 1914 as did my great uncle aged 24 and 22 respectively. They both astonishingly survived, though Grandpa was gassed and shell shocked. He died in 1949 aged 56 from a quinsey. As you say, all those graves!
Hope all goes well for Ros, and that you have a peaceful(!) day
Happy anniversary Mel, are you doing anything special?
OH has just come in from shopping and two of our duvet covers have appeared! Apparently the third one is coming from a different company so hopefully will be here soon!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Aug 2017 12:59

I did watch some of the program you were talking about and thought how lovely it was.

Frank who is Andrew? I never mention oh's name.

Poor Ros I hope she can get this thing done without so much pain so she dos'nt have to have the operation. I shall be thinking of her all day now.

My uncle John, dads older brother was killed when his ship the Acheron hit a mine.

The sixth Acheron (H45) was an A-class destroyer launched in 1930 and sunk by a mine off the Isle of Wight on 17 December 1940.

Sinking
Repairs were fully completed by 2 December and she began post refit trials. On 17 December she was sailing off the Isle of Wight. The trial was being conducted at night, in heavy seas and with a strong north-east wind in complete darkness. She was conducting steaming exercises over a measured mile, 8 nautical miles west-south-west of St. Catherine's Point. On one of the passes, she struck a mine. The explosion caused major structural damage forward and her own speed drove her under. She sank within four minutes, taking 196 crewmen and yard workers, who were on board for the trials, to the bottom. There were only 19 survivors. The mine was probably one of those laid by the Luftwaffe in no definite pattern along the Channel coast. Her sinking was not made public until 27 December 1940.

Good afternoon all

A very wet day here, just finished a pile of ironing as after the garage was cleared up Richard then decided to move a lot of stuff from his bedroom into the garage and then found a fair bit of washing so that made a lot of ironing, so all done now and a tidy bedroom.

We are staying in Allerston nr Pickering the place is called Boundcliffe Farm and we booked it through Sykes Cottages, I hope it's as nice as it looks,

I also had a good childhood first when we lived at Watersland with my great aunt during the war, it had it's own bluebell wood and plenty of land and afterwards in Hastings so plenty of places to play out including the beach, we weren't allowed indoors during daylight if the weather was fine.

My dad's brother Charles was killed in WW2 by a sniper in France .My Grandma visited his grave when she was well in eighties, both Richard and Paul went to Belgium with the school to visit the war graves. Peter's Grandfather was in WW1 and came home shell shocked, he also saw the Angel of Mons.

Frank my SIL has a ring fitted and it has to be changed every so often she said how painful the fitting is so I do hope Ros is ok.

Jane

Jane Report 2 Aug 2017 18:39

Grotty day here too. Not heavy rain but just blooming miserable. It is very humid though.

Frank is Ros home now? I hope that procedure went well and that it wasn't too painful for her. As long as it does the trick that is all she will want.I remember far too well having to have a coil fitted and it was so painful that in the end I had to have it done under General Anaesthetic. The reason it was so difficult was apparently because I hadn't had Natural Births with my 2. She will probably feel like she has been through the wringer now and will just need a nice quiet and early night

HAPPY 20th Anniversary to you both Mel <3 <3 Mmm I wonder who Andrew is LOL
Are you having a special dinner tonight?

Anne, I hope the weather improves for your holiday. It is prety grim at the moment.
I will have a little peek on Google at where you are going. It is always nice to get away .Hannah and Gareth are now in Dubrovnik. I have a great pic tyo send you all of them climbing very steep steps to get to their apartment. Poor Gareth looks like a Pack Horse.I think once they have dumped all their luggage they headed back down to the beach for a G&T and flopping down on a couple of loungers . Hopefully they have slapped on the sun cream.

Plumbing all finished, after fitting one, which was too tight the nurse fitted another, and all fairly comfortable. Thank you for your thoughts xxx

Just had one hell of a shock. I was in the kitchen cooking dinner/tea. Pork slices in the oven with Chinese Marinade. Sweet corn and chips. I had got Ros's ready and see was in the dining room eating hers. I drained my chips and dried them, put them in the oil. I took the jug that had the chips in to the sink, turned round and the cover to the extractor fan decided to fall down. It hit the pan of boiling oil and sent the oil all over the cooker, the cubboards and floor, nor forgetting my left leg and slipper.Fortunately I had my jogging bottoms on and that took the worst of it. I would class myself as a walking disaster ;-) ;-) ;-)

Sorry Mel, I meant to say STEPHEN. not Andrew, another age thing !!! I hope you had a nice day anyway.

I see you have beed busy Anne, all that washing and ironing. You wonder where it all comes from. Roa washes at least three times a week and that's just us two. ;-) ;-) ;-)

My childhood was very memorable due to the war. I got evacuated for a few months in 1942, but spent the rest of the war at home with the family. My dad's old ship HMS "COURAGEOUS" was the first ship sunk in the 2nd war. He was on it when it was an "Aircraft Carrier" before the war started. He joined up as a boy in 1901 aged 15. He became a chief gunner on a battle ship during the 1st WW ending up as A Chief Petty Officer. He loved the sea and was serving in the RN for many years then the Merchant Navy, ending up on the pleasure steamers from London Bridge to seaside resorts around the east coast. Happy days :-D :-D :-D

Wet raining evening here so T.V or my book. and an early night for me.

Have a good evening, see you tomorrow. No more accidents for me tonight. !!!

How on earth did that fall down? Was it after you big cleaning session the other day and you dislodged it? Thank goodness you didn't get burned with the hot oil

I am so pleased that all went fine for Ros. She will be glad now it is all done.

Boundcliffe Farm looks a lovely place to stay Anne :-D :-D I am sure you will all have a wonderful time there . Ruby will have plenty of space to run around too :-D :-D
I can't remember how long you are going for . Is it just the one week?

Heavy drizzle here now .I think I will go and do my whistle for Thomas. He could be lurking somewhere in the big hedge.

Frank I got the email through about my refund last night :-D. They say they have now done it. Will keep checking the bank account to make sure it comes in.

Need to check dinner . It is smelling good.
