Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Aug 2017 09:58

Morning all,

Another grey day here and everywhere looks wet out there so it must have carried on raining when I went to bed last night. Not raining at the moment.

Gill do you mean your border goes where the old garage was? I think you sent us a pic of your kitchen once but we have never seen the garden so its hard to know where you look out or which bit faces where.

Slept well again last night and went out like a light. Hope Frank had a good nights sleep now he's home and can't wait to hear his stories.

Good morning my "SWEETIES" evening Kim,

Weather here is the same Mel, here is a very fine misty rain. I think it's the end of "GERT"

Had a pretty good night. I was settled down in the bed by 10.15 pm. Roa said Conrad rang at 1.45 to say he was home S & S. Three and a half hour journey in the horrible rain. I bet he slept well last night. !!!

We had a very nice break. They made a point of taking us out here and there. We went to a nice place called "DARTMEET" It was on the river dart, where families go rock walking. It was very busy and children were quite happy to be up to there waists in water clambering between rocks. Jane and Mel might know it. It's very popular. We stopped off at the shop for an ice cream. £19.25 for FOUR twin scoops with a drop of double cream. It made Ros sick and we had to stop on the way home. We had lunch out every day, and a nice meal out Friday evening. Sat was takeaway (Chinese).

When we went to DARTMEET I was walking through the bracken and caught my foot. I went down and rolled over in the bracken. Two women came to my rescue and helped me up. We also went to a beautiful garden centre. There were lots of "reduced" plants, that Ros and Jan bought two trolly loads, to go in Jan's garden. She has a gardener chap who comes every two weeks, so he will put them in. We found those beans Mel so bought a couple of packets, also some potato's that can be planted now for harvesting for Christmas. So I will be able to take new potato's down to Conrad's for Christmas.

Just had a nice breakfast of Ham and Eggs, with B & B and more tea. Now going to have a shower and shave.

Will try to catch up on some posts later.

Afternoon all

Sunny here today, but a bit of a wind which is blowing my bamboo, so I might have to move it to another spot in the garden, I'm thinking of buying another Red Robin to replace it as they withstand the wind better.

The border Mel faces East for the most part, then the curve faces South, so plenty of sun which the plants seem to love. It is where the old garage was and then continues down to the bottom of the garden.

I didn't realise you could buy potato's to harvest now Frank, I might get some as we've just taken all our potato's for this year out of the pots and have almost finished eating them. It'll be nice to have some home grown ones for Christmas dinner.

It sounds like you had a nice time away, apart from the fall. It was nice of the two women to help you up. I gather you were walking on your own, or was it no one else could help you up? I hope you weren't to injured and it didn't spoil the rest of your time away.

I've spent this morning finishing off the border so now it doesn't look a day old anymore, it flows nicely with the two borders either end and looks as if it's been there for years. I still would like to have some winter colour as it's going to look a bit bare when all the flowers die back.

Hair colouring day today, so I'd better get on with it as time is moving on and it takes a good few hours to do. Sandra is going to help me as OH is at his mates today. I found a photo booth in Tesco's, all the years I've been going there and never noticed the booth, at least now I can have my photo taken and sort out the renewal of my driving licence, which is why I'm colouring my hair today so it looks nice when I have the photo taken tomorrow. :-)

Frank been to Dartmeet many times. I still have a butter press I bought there years ago. It has as strawberry on it. When we went there there were lots of chickens walking around. It was a long long time ago though. I love the sound of the water rushing along.

It sounds like you had a lovely time down in Devon Frank and found lots of places to go. It was nice the two ladies helped you up but sounds like you had quite a soft landing in the bracken. Shame the icecream made Ros sick. What flavour did she have?

Well the sun came out for a while so the washing has gone on the line but now it has clouded over again. I shall have to keep my eye out incase it starts to rain as some of the washing is quite heavy and I don't want it hanging around for ages.

Hi Gill,

You are the lucky one having sunshine. We have plenty of autumn colours in the garden, with Dahlia's Chrysanthemum's (had to look that up LOL LOL) Really dank horrible day here. I am sure we won't see any yellow stuff today.

I spoke with my sister last night, as being away I haven't been in touch. She is having a lot of trouble with her ear. She tells me that her husband was a WIFE BEATER. Before he died he punched her in the ear and made it bleed. She has been under the doctor/hospital since. It's a perforated eardrum and it's now healing, but giving her a lot of pain.I remember going round to their house and giving him a good hiding just after they were married for hitting her. She tells me that my brother Bill also set about him a few times for the same reason. So it would appear it continued for 60 years. Why the hell she didn't kick him out I will never know. It's the first time she has opened up to me, so she must be feeling very lonely and upset.

Still haven't read the posts, as I have been busy doing the veg. for tonights dinner.

Lewis has said he is coming up this afternoon. Perhaps he will stay the night as he is on his own at home, then he can come and have a pint with his PAP and watch the football. It will be the first time since he was legal , to drink in a pub.

Just seen Pam next door and gave her a load of runners. Roa is off to Val's with a load also, and her Birthday card and present for tomorrow, same day as my dad's.

Gill those potato's you can plant now and harvest for Christmas are called "9 MARIS PEER" Plant August/September. Harvest November/December. They say they are ideal for containers. They should be ready to harvest in 12 weeks. Harvest only as required. The remainder can be left in situ for up to a month. Growing in BAGS they should be moved to a frost free area for Christmas Harvesting. Now all you need to do is find them in the Garden centre. The name on the packaging is "TAYLORS" of HOLBEACH, Cambridgeshire PE 12 7PP and priced at £2.99 each.I will put some in my plot and some in bags. You might be able to find stockists on their WEB SITE. Good luck xxx

Off for a quiet afternoon with my book. I won't say enjoy the weather, if it's anything like mine LOL LOL.

Oh MEL, How nice that you missed me so much. xxx I will have to take the Mac book next time. How strange that you can't find those potato's on their site.

I have been reading through the posts catching up on what you have all been up to.

Many, Many years ago we use to go the Leicester to a Factory shop for ladies and gents underwear. I might have been the seconds shop for M & S or BHS.

Stilla horrible afternoon here, still trying to rain. Roa has got the airer out in the conservatory full of wet washing. I might even put the radiator on out there to help with the drying.
Still no sign of Lewis. I bet being on his own, and having so many late nights, he could still be in bed !!! I will give him a ring.

Gillx Report 21 Aug 2017 15:54

Thanks Frank for letting me know the name of the potatoes. Has Lewis turned up yet? It'll be nice for you both to have a pint and watch the footie later. Sorry to hear about your sister. Hope her ear heals soon.

It's gone very dull here and we've had a few spots of rain, I expect it will pour down properly soon.

Hair coloured and conditioned, I've just run a bath to rinse the conditioner off then comes the fun part of drying and straightening it. I recorded a film at 3pm so will be watching that with Sandra later. I think it was called "Plane vs Volcano" it looked quite good.

Better go and check my bath now before it over flows, I don't want a swimming pool in the bathroom LOL. :-)

Evening All
Just a quick post from me now. Have been out all afternoon Hairdressers and a shopping.
Frank DARTMEET was a favourite for my Parents to take me and Janice when we were little.I loved it there scampering across those big boulders in the river, the Clapper Bridge . Such a lovely place. We would have a picnic and then an icecream . ( I don't think it made me sick though like poor Ros. Was it a bit rich? It would have been in the early 60's we went.
At least you had the nice bracken to roll into when you had your tumble. It is always ladies who come to the rescue :-D. I take it you didn't hurt yourself.

James said he is wanting to go to Dartmoor with Jess .So I will tell him about Dartmeet .I think they would love it there for a day out.

Must go now ,things to do ,dinner to see to.

Afternoon All,

It's been very dull here all day. We went and did shopping after lunch and OH has been having a rest since.......about 100 winks I'd say.

Nice to see Frank is home after having a nice time at the seaside. Did the Winking Prawn get a visit Frank?? ;-) ;-) It's a shame the icecream didn't seem to agree with Ros and sorry to hear your sister is having trouble with her ear now. I hope it soon heals. How sad she had an abusive husband that hit her, but it seems once confidence goes many are unable to break free, especially once there are children. I have never been hit by a man other than my father. He would hit you if you argued with him......or answered back as he called it. You were lucky to land on some soft bracken weren't you when you fell for those 2 ladies! I think I might put some of those potatoes in some big pots. Do you keep them in the greenhouse Frank?

The Fossil prog was on BBC4 Jane. I think there are another 2 in the series. I haven't watched it yet so don't know how good it was. I think we would enjoy a cruise, but we aren't keen on crowds and lots of noise. I think it would have to be a child free one like the one you went on if we did go!! lol.

I'm looking forward to Victoria and thanks for saying about the Shed prog Mandy, I enjoy that. :-)

Glad you liked the painting Gill and I see you are still busy moving things around in your garden. It sounds like you have made it really nice now. We shall be wanting to see a pic of it when it's done.

Jane

Jane Report 21 Aug 2017 19:08

Ann, you and OH would really enjoy that cruise Chris and I went on. It was as I said Child free, and it was for people interested in photography .(so right up your street)There were lectures on photography . No loud music or anything like that. They did have a show or two but you don't have to do anything you dont want to. As I said ~I would love to do that trip again .The scenenry was just out of this world.

Just booked 3 nights in Suffolk for the middle of September. 2 nights at The Crown and Castle in Orford and 1 night at the Angel Hotel in Lavenham :-)

I never had much more than a slapped bottom when I was young and it was probably not more than a tap really .I do though seem to remember being put over Dads knee for a spanking. But a gentle spanking .He wouldn't have hurt a fly :-D

Been doing a bit of clearing up in the garden around my shed. Its been realy hot here but not sunny all the time if you know what I mean.

Hav'nt anything out for dinner so oh is having toasted cheese sandwiches and I will have something else so I don't really have to cook as such tonight.

We have watched the total eclipse of the sun in America on the telly.

Forgot to post this!!

My dad would slap me on the back of my legs and I would be sent to stand in the corner. A slap never did me any harm.

I am watching a program on Vikings and iceland.

It does sound as if it was a nice cruise Jane and good for photography so right up my street as you say! lol. I must lose this weight so my knees improve.....then the world will be my oyster as they say!!

I've just been beading a little locket type case to fit around an oval Labradorite gemstone I treated myself for my birthday. I want to make it into a pendant with a beaded cord. My word, some of the beads I am using to get a tight fit are so tiny, like a pinhead, that I've had to give it a rest now as my eyes are going funny!!

Morning all,

A much better start to the day here at the moment as we ave plenty of blue sky with a few wispy white clouds and sunshine. Its been such a rotten month that it is a pleasure to see the sun. The farmers have been fighting to get their crops in between the wet days and you get a nice day and there are tractors all over the place rushing around like blue a***d flies and you hve to be careful going around bends in case they are coming the other way and taking all the road up.

Well shopping day caomes around yet again and I don't know where all the food I put in the fridge goes to. One minuet its full next its empty and out I have to go and replenish it.

Frank

Frank Report 22 Aug 2017 11:11

Good morning Mel and all, evening Kim,

It sounds like I should have stayed in Paignton, if you have the BLUE SKY'S. It's drab sort of day here.

Jan use to take her children to Dartmeet for a picnic and climb on the boulders in the river. It seems a very popular place for families.

We are meeting up with Simon and Sally for coffee tomorrow morning at 9.30. I expect it will turn into breakfast as well. Simon can eat for England. LOL LOL.

I went to watch the match last night, and apart from the bar staff I was the only one in the pub. As I had no company, I only watched the first half and rang Ros to collect me.

Another terrible night last night. I went to bed about 10.45 and had to come out and wake Ros at 12.30, she had dropped off on the sofa. When she came to bed, I got up and read till 3.00 am. I then had some very weird dreams, from chasing Vals daughter when she was young. She had an imitation CAP GUN firing it around a shopping centre, upsetting the people around her. I then ended up in a local transports company offices, trying to find the toilet. I then clocked watched until Ros got up and made a COT which I had in bed, that was nice for a change.

Lewis didn't show yesterday, he sent Ros a tex to say he was working all day. So when we will see him I don't know. He passed his English EXAM, so he can go to Hertfordshire University, which is great news.

Ann, It sounds like that cruise that Jane went on would suit you down to the ground. That's if they still do it !!! I bet the old STEAM BOATS don't go there any more LOL LOL

Nothing planed at this end today. Roa isn't going out with Carolyn today, so she will get the ironing done.

Chicken in a garlic and herb dressing tonight with new potatoes and Ratatouille. it will make a nice change.

See you all later, "have a good day."

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 22 Aug 2017 13:43

Its a shame Lewis did'nt turn up yesterday Frank as it sounded like you were looking forward to going down the pub with him. Clever lad passing his exam, congratulations to him.

Di called in this morning so I am all behind (no I don't want any rude remarks thank you very much) and have just done oh his lunch and bunged a one slice ham sarnie down my neck so I am off in a min.

See you later.

O I thought of something this morning. Do any of you remember those horrid dry shampoos? I tried one once when young and it was awful so had to wash my hair in the end anyway. They were like a load of powder.

Jane

Jane Report 22 Aug 2017 17:32

Afternoon All

Hannah is officially now DR ROSE :-D :-D.. I thought she already was but it is in writing now. Two very proud parents here :-D :-D. I will have to make sure we have a couple of bottles of the bubbly stuff for when she arrives on Friday. We will all get together for a family meal at the end of September as every weekend between now and then is busy with the Wedding, then us away ,then James and then us.Her Graduation will be in January in London. So that will be another get together. :-D

Frank, you look so much like your Dad !!!! That was a lovely photo of him.
I am sure it won't be too long before you see Lewis .He probably didn't expect to be working yesterday.

It is so sticky and humid today. It's making me a bit grumpy .Well not really grumpy just a little tetchy :-) I have been up since just after 5 too as it was too hot in bed.(Just the weather, not Chris). I was sitting in my nighty have a cuppa at 7.30 when the blooming Window cleaner turned up. So I quickly pulled all the curtains again in hte lounge and jst stayed on the settee. Chris was still in bed and James was getting ready for work.So I shouted up the stair to him just to let him know to keep his curains closed and the bathroom blind down . 7.30 !!!!!!. That really is too early . But at least the windows are done now
:-D
I have had the bathroom mats on the line today but they haven't dried. Just too humid and not a breath of air.

I saw a police car chasing someone in a car down the road this morning.Sirens going.
They were certainly speeding !.. This road is now a 30 mile an hour one,but so many cars are still going soooo fast. I think it is time they had the van with the speed camera again. It is crazy some of the speeds people are doing.

I must start doing something about dinner. It is that Tray bake chicken with that new Dolmio sauce /paste Tomato and Herby one. Rice in pouches and Runners and Asparagus. James will be a little later than normal as he is popping in to see Johnny's Mum.
