Afternoon all,
Sad day for me too Mel my mum died 15 years ago today.
Nice and sunny here the washing is out and theres a good wind so it's all drying well, we have been out in the garden getting the Geraniums, Fushias and Begonias out of the pots ,they will be stored away for the winter and hopefully be ok for next year .
Thats a good saying Frank, i always make sure i butter the edges on my bread if i do sandwiches, it's so dry if you don't .
I saw Kate Winslet on the Graham Norton show the other night she had Fish Net Tights/Stockings on , i remember wearing them ,they were a bit uncomfortable if you got your toes through the wrong bit !! And a bit of a job to get the pattern straight on your legs , Are they making a come back ? everything seems to come back round .

I like that saying Frank! You have reminded me of the lino floors we had when I was a child and of mum saying that grandma loved polishing them including the stairs!! Apparently one morning grandad got up and as soon as his stockinged feet were on the first steps to come downstairs they shot from under him and he ended up with his legs up the front door at the bottom. Mum said she heard him shout upstairs to his son 'mind the stairs Geoff, they are like glass'. :-S lol.
I suspect the fuel filter didn't start to fail straightaway Mel. It is the filter manufacturer's fault really and I would think the garage are concerned about others thy have fitted lately in case mine wasn't a one off! I do worry sometimes about getting stranded in the back of beyond now I can't walk so far and I often go off the beaten track with my camera and haven't a clue what road I am on. So many roads in the countryside don't have the names on nowadays, yet it is the first thing the breakdown people ask you. It has another year's warranty Frank but they haven't said anything about me paying and I don't think they will.
Mandy I remember wearing fishnets and getting the mesh caught on my toes. You did have to make sure they were straight as you say. I last wore them for a group tap dance I was in many years ago! I used to love some of the less 'loud' patterned tights that came in and can remember a plainer pair that had a little bow woven into them at the back just above the heel. Seams up the back were a nightmare with all the checking they were straight.

Well that can't be bad Ann. A tank of petrol doesn't come cheap.
I often think of some of the old sayings that came from my childhood. "SHE'S NO BETTER THAN SHE AUGHT TO BE" comes to mind.
Nice sunny day here now. with a fair breeze blowing so a nip in the air.
I had a cast atrophy this afternoon. I cut the cold lamb up and put in a dish with onions, gravy and potato's. What we call BAKED POTATO'S. Went to put it in the over and the begger slipped from my hands. I managed to save it but the gravy spilt all over the oven door, into the bottom of the oven, and down the door under the oven, straight onto the floor. I had to have the corner out and get a bowl of soapy water to clean the floor and all surfaces. That took my over half an hour. Needless to say the way I feel, I could have done without that job.
As a 15 year old, travelling on the London underground. there were sites to be seen with you YOUNG LADIES in MINI SHIRTS and STOCKINGS. It was before the time of tights. So you can use your imagination what the views were. No wonder I went BLIND EARLY LOL LOL
Ros went off to have her nails done at 2.00 pm for 2.30 appointment. Then she was going to Tesco and calling in to see Sids Val, so have no idea when to expect her.
The oven is on and will take about two hours to cook, I have only done carrots and cabbage for tonight. I had a plate of smoked Mackerel for lunch with Brown bread and butter, so I am not really hungry.

Afternoon All I have just had to dash upstairs to shut the big windows. The wind had pulled them wide open and things were flying off the windowsills :-S It has really picked up here.
What a mess you made there Frank!!!. I bet the air was blue !!!!! At least you have it all nice and clean again so Ros can't see LOL.
Ann, what a great garage you have !!!!!. A full tank and car delivered back to you .That is what I call great service. Not like Chris's garage today. He was up at 6 and left here at 7.30 to take his car to Northampton. It took him ages with the traffic and got there just before 9. He came home with the courtesy car and then a couple of hours later the phone rang and it was the garage to say they had ordered the wrong part and the new one wouldn't be in untio Friday. I said to Chris they should have driven his car back here and taken the courtesy car back. But Chris being Chris didn't say anything and so had to drive all the way back to Northampton and back home again .I was not amused :-|
Dermot lives in Devon not too far from you Mel .
Now stockings and tights. Funny you all talking about them. We had a discussion yesterday over lunch about them LOL I can't remember how the subject came up. I wore stockings for a couple of years before tights came out. I do remember whight tights with patterns that went up the side of the legs. A couple of my friends would wear them to school (I wasn't allowed :-S) Fishnets I always thought were uncomforatable ,like Ann said toes would poke through the holes and it could be quite painful. I never really found tights that comfortable either and the gusset would sometimes end up down near the knees LOL So it was a pair of pants on top as well as underneath! I can't remember now the last time I wore tights. Even for weddings. and as for suspender belts well they could keep them. The suspenders would dig in the side of my legs. I did feel very grown up though when I first started wearing stockings :-D :-D.... Trousers any day for me now :-D
Hannah just rang and we had a quick natter as she was waiting for a train home from work. She was saying that she and a group of Uni friends(girls) are thinking of doing Ben Nevis next year !!!!! Rather them than me.
Chicken Kievs tonight with a traybake of Peppers,Red Onion,Mushrooms and Charlotte potatoes.Peas on the side.

Iremember fishnet tights and wore them. I did'nt have any trouble with my toes going through them though. Mine had like a sock bit on the ends where your toes were. I too had the ones with the little bows on the back and some with a diamond pattern on but they were more like proper tights. Some with flowers on I seem to remember too. I also loved coloured tights, red black, mauve and a mustardy yellow O and green and turquoise ones which I wore with a turquoise skirt and a blouse that was red, black and turquoise. Felt like the "bees knees" in that outfit. Now where did that saying comes from I wonder?
Frank poor you having to clear that lot up and I bet the oven was hot too or had'nt you turned it on when you put the dinner in the oven? I know I got cross a couple of weeks ago. I knocked an open pot of double cream ut the fridge and it spilt all over the flotex carpet I have in the kitchen. Cream is awful to wash off a carpet even if it dos'nt really have a pile.
What on earth made the lady polish lino on the stairs?????? She was just asking for trouble there.
Ann that was a nice gesture the tank of petrol and much much better than a tube of Lovehearts or even chocolates. I'd take the petrol any day. :-D :-D :-D
Well I had to drop something in the solicitors in Holsworthy so I said to oh I would go to Bideford from Holsworthy. He said why not go to Bude instead as it would be better than going on to Bideford. I thought not a bad idea. :-) So thats what I did and I stopped in Brooks nusery where I hav'nt been for a couple of years. It had all changed in there and I bought some nice little pressies in there for Em and Ed and the boys next door, something for oh and a branch hook that was marked down to £9.80 from £13.99. I have given him the branch hook incase he does anymore pruning of the apple trees and it should get the rest of the branches out of my other apple tree that the one that came down fell against as there are still a few branches stuck up there.
I bought myself a pair of black jeans and some other bits and bobs and I thougherly enjoyed myself looking around and not being chivied along because someone wanted to go home! :-| :-D I must take Di there as she would like it too and we could have lunch there so making it a day out.

What a disaster Frank. When gravy spills onto the floor as well it always seems to seep under something and need a soapy cloth because of the grease.
Well the filling my fuel tank sounded good until I realised I'd already filled it up the day it broke down!! When the driver brought it back, he told me he'd only managed to squeeze £7 worth in the tank and it wouldn't take anymore. Then he said the fuel gauge was only showing 3/4 full and was it always like that!! NO I said, it goes right up to the full mark! He thought he may have slightly overfilled it and to see what happened next time I topped it up?? :-S I decided to ring the garage after he'd gone just to let them know what the driver said and to make sure they knew the gauge was fine when they serviced the car. They said not to worry and if the car had been overfilled, the gauge would probably 'recallibrate' next time I fill up and, if not, to ring them and they would fetch the car, fix it and bring it back for me. They do seem to give good service, even if I do feel as if I'm taking a step back for each two forward! Peugeot seem to have ramped up their service and they ring you after your visit to a garage and email you if they can't get hold of you. Anything less than a 9 out of 10 they consider to be a failure on their part.
I was in stockings and suspenders with my first mini skirts. I think tights were very expensive at first and wonder how long it would have been before we had them if it hadn't been for mini skirts. Suspenders looked lovely on the lingerie model dummies in shops but they were awfully uncomfortable to wear and fix the suspenders in the right place! I remember my first hubby mourning their passing but I was thrilled to be set free!! Mind you, Jane is right about some wanting to go south and it was a pain when you needed the loo. Trousers were frowned on for women when I joined the Civil Service, but after a few years we could wear them and eventually jeans too. Strappy tops or see through blouses were always a no no though. One of my favourite teenage outfits was a black, skinny rib jumper with a flared black fine cord mini skirt with a small pink rose print and black diamond patterned tights.
Jane, poor Chris having all that faff for nothing! Let's hope Friday is better, although that is not a good day for traffic, especially in the afternoon.
OH has gone to a local match so I can play CDs that OH doesn't like!! LOL. :-)

Remember those 'hold up' stockings with elasticated tops............mine never did!!! LOL. I had a long sleeved nylon paisley shirt dress mainly in orange and fuschia pink. It clinged everywhere on your body, especially to nylon underskirts and sent out sparks and electric shocks. I had a white plastic, 'leather look' reefer style jacket in the 60s. I think I cleaned it with Vim. lol.

Morning all,
Having trouble with the Error Page again this morning.
We have bright spells and then it turns cloudy again. There is quite a blow on today too.
Last night was the first night in years I hav'nt got up for the loo!! I slept like a log all night and feel better for it this morning.
Four eggs so far today........................................
How's the cold this morning Frank? any improvement?
Ann that was a let down about the fuel put in your car perhaps a box of chocs would have been a better idea after all.

Morning Mel, and all, evening Kim,
Same here Mel the wind seems to be gathering pace. There is no sunshine at the moment, and somehow I don't think we will get any.
Started something talking about tights and stockings. !! LOL
That was not on for Chris. I would have played merry hell with them, and kept the curtesy car, until mine was ready, and wold have insisted they delivered my car back when it was ready. I can see you will have to have words with him Jane. ;-) ;-) ;-)
Cold is still in my head, and i'm still blowing my brains out. I must admit it is getting better though.
Getting up in the night is the norm in this house. In fact, Ros insists that I disturb her when I get out, and that means she needs the loo too. !!! I get blamed for everything LOL LOL.
I have recorded MY GIRL. I started to watch it but couldn't get interested, so might watch it on catch up and see what I think.
The bathroom is now empty, so I can get my tower. See you later.

All nice and clean now. I've washed the shower and walls. So no complaints from her in doors. I hope .
The wind seems to have dropped and it's getting brighter. Ros is busy on her machine turning out even more quilts for these babies. The one she is doing at the moment is "HUMPTY DUMPTY" falling off the wall. !!! It looks very nice, and will be a comfort for some poor little mite xxxx ;-) ;-)
Going to have a read for a while, before coffee and lunch.

Sewing machine still on the go.
I have been trying to spend some NECTA points. It would be easier to speak o the Queen or the Pope. You fill in all the details and blow me if they don't keep asking the same question. Now the account has been frozen for security. I will leave it for now as I am getting a bit shirty with myself !
I have also been trying to contact HMCR regarding my Self Assessment tax. I think I owe them a few quid, and I am trying to confirm the amount. Once again keep getting the wrong answers. So will pay what I think at the end of January. If it's wrong they will soon be in touch. Why do I seem to have all the problems. ??
Going to look at Nat. Geo. and relax for an hour.

Afternoon All
Sounds like you have had a bit of frustrating day Frank what with the Nectar and Tax . Gone are the days when you can just pick up the phone and get to speak to someone right away without having to keep pressing heaven knows how many numbers. It is all so long winded.
Mel you will be egg bound soon with all your eggs LOl. It is great that you are getting a good amount now.
The wind has been blowing here all day and now we have rain. Thomas is is and looks like it will be for the night if it continues raining.
I think I was up 3 times last night for the loo. That is unusual for it to be that many times. Like you and Ros Frank.Once one of us gets up it is then the other ones turn.
I have done a Beef Casserole for dinner tonight .It has been ages since I did one and I just fancied it.I have just mashed the spuds and they have turned out lovely and creamy and LUMP FREE :-D :-D. I put some different butter in this time and it has made a huge difference. It is Normandy Butter with Sea Salt Crystals .I will use this each time now for my mash.
I was hoping our Plumber might have turned up this afternoon .But so far no sign and no message :-S. It has been a week and a half now :-S :-S. He is an excellent Plumber but never comes when he says he will.Just a phone call or a text would be nice. He has always been the same .We don't want to get anyone else but just wish he would be a bit more reliable.
I have been going through more old photos this afternoon and found the list of guests for our wedding. I see we had 71 . Looking at a few of the names(who couldn't be at the wedding) ,I have no idea who they are !!!!. They were on Chris's side. I must ask him who the heck they were. The other thing I realised was how many family member guests are no longer with us :-( All my family other than us and my Sister :-( :-(
Well Thomas has braved it and gone out. I give him a few minutes and bet he will back in the summerhouse :-D It certainly isn't cold. I turned the heating right off on the thermostat . Someone will sneak it up later though and it won't be me. I think the weekend is going to be a really warm one by the look of things. :-D

I meant to say our Leeks have been infected by Leek Moth :-S :-S. Chris dug up 3 that I was going to use in the casserole and I found larva in all 3. I bet the rest are no good either now which is a real shame. Now we need to see if the Parsnips are ok or if they have been got by anything. I don't think there is much on TV I want to see tonight so I might have another look at Liar on catch up as I was dozing on and off a bit the other night when it was on. So I need to be clear on exactly what happened this week. I did watch 24hrs to Catch a Killer on my laptop. I don't think it has been on TV yet .It was really good.
Chris wants to turn the heating up !!!!!!... Told you :-D

It's far to warm for the heating Jane, I like you and Ros are quite warm enough.
I ordered a bunch of (can't think of the name) but the same as I bought Ros for her Birthday. They have just arrived, and all I got was "Why did you need to do that" I said have you looked at the card. Yes was the reply, it said "I LOVE YOU" Can I not do anything right :-0 :-0 :-P :-P :-P
Haven't looked what's on T.V tonight. I know there is one and a half hours of soaps now they have put Corrie on for an extra episode. BLAH.
I can see me in the conservatory again this evening. At least I can enjoy what I watch !!!
