Mel Fairy Godmother Report 16 Oct 2017 22:35

Well it has been blowing a gale all day here. Is the dust why I said the light outside this morning looked yellowy?

The girls did'nt seem to mind the high wind that much. I thought they would stay inside most of the day but they were out and about. Some in the shelter and some around the house. Being lower to the ground and with the big trees behind their run and the huge oak the other side in our garden perhaps thats why. They did all seem to go in earlier tonight though.

I had to go and get our scripts this afternoon and asked for an afternoon appointment to see my doc. She asked me if I woudl go to Hatherleigh as thats where he is in the afternoons. I said no. I was at the desk for ages as she could'nt find oh's pills adn then she could'nt find mine! The girl came out of the dispensary with oh's but by this time I had a que of four people behind me. Its never been the same down there since Dr Miller left and retired.

Glas your all safe after this horrid day. I am now going in the shower and going to watch this weeks Outlander.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 17 Oct 2017 10:33

Morning all,

We have wall to wall blue sky and sunshine and the birds are singing their heads off and there's not a breeze in the air so it must have blown itself out and away.

It would be a nice day as its Donkey Day. At least I don't have to do two shops this week and I may have a look up the High St if I feel inclined.

The freezer seems to be behaving too and coming on and going off like it should so thats one good thing that has happened.

The apple trees still have leaves on and so does the big oak but the sycamores that I can see out the top and some other ones are bare or nearly so.

How have your gardens fared in the winds?

I don't think I have any dust on my car the way you have been talking.

Frank Report 17 Oct 2017 11:29

Good morning all, Evening Kim,

I was in bed by 8.15 last night. head down by 9.00. Got out once about 2.00 am then slept till 8.00 am. Feel like a ZOMBIE now, just can't get myself going after my shower.

The wind took it's toll in the back garden. Tall plants in pots blown over. The Strawberry display has been smashed. Plants and trays all over the patio. Have been out to put the line up, and all seems well down the bottom end.

Ros said when she put "biggles" out last night there were lots of planes going over. Whether they were running for cover, I don't know, but that wind really had a mind of it's own during the night. Better this morning with clear blue sky's and only a breeze.

Bed changed again as the weather is fine ,with a good blow, she doesn't miss a trick. The bed was only changed a few days ago. Anyone would think it is DIRTY> LOL

Have a good Donkey day Mel. See you when you are back xx

Nothing planed for today, Ros is at Hospital at 3.40 pm Val is taking her. I think I will get her to get a couple of ready meals on her way home, to save me cooking tonight. What a treat that will be !!!!

Frank

Frank Report 17 Oct 2017 16:59

What a job getting on here this afternoon, it would appear that nobody has been able to post either.

Ros has to go back in two weeks. Val was kind enough to take her. They are at Mothers club tonight, Ros is picking up Val from next door about 7.15 pm. I might go and watch football at the pub, rather than be home alone. I will see how I feel.

I think the cold thingy is just about clear, even though my head seems a bit stuffy. A bit of fresh air might do me good.

Hope you manage to post sometime soon, I don't like talking to myself. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Jane Report 17 Oct 2017 17:29

Its me :-D. I haven't had any bother getting on here Frank as this is the fisrt time i have had the laptop on :-D :-D.
Your poor garden sounded like it had a right old battering Frank.I don't think anything got blown over here yesterday .

I was watching all the little birds having a good bath this morning. There were lots in the bird bath all at the same time. I wonder if they had a lot of the Sahara dust in their feathers and were trying to get rid of it. When you think about it they must have been covered poor things.

Thomas has just legged it as we have just done his flea treatment on his neck. He is not amused. He was starting to scratch yesterday,no doubt having picked up some unwelcome visitors from the bunnies. At least he will be all clear when he goed to the cattery on Thursday.

You had a good sleep then last night. You probably went so deep that is why you were feeling all wooly headed this morning. I slept fine until about 4.30 when I woke up for the loo. I had a look on my phone to see the time and somehow turned the torch light on it.(I didn't even know there was one. ). The trouble was I couldn't find out how to turn the blooming thing off and it was like a spotlight!!!. So that was me awake then.I came down and made a mug of tea and took it back up to Hannahs bed and then watched Jeremy Kyle LOL. Read my KIndle and then watched a programme on the Iplayer on the laptop.I feel quite pooped now.

Mel that was a right performance at your surgery with your scripts.Did you make an appointment in the end for when your GP is at that surgery? Is Hatherleigh too far for you to go to see him? Am I right in thinking that is on the Torrington Rd?

Was Ros's appointment for her bladder Frank? Things must be looking ok if she doesn't need to go back for a fortnight. Is it just a matter of keeping an eye on things?

There is not a breath of wind at all here.Everything is totally still. How different from our weird weather yesterday.

Chris is going to a film in Northampton tomorrow .It is an animated one of Van Gogh .It is supposed to be incredibly clever. But it is a 2 and a half hour film and there is no way I could sit for that long with my painful hip at the moment. That is long for a film. I can usually do at the most 1and a half hours and then get the fidgets and just can't sit still.

There is a series coming up on TV .. No sound. The first one is year (time lapse) of a walled garden. There is one on a Monastary and another. They did this silent thing a year or so ago of a coach trip around the Yorkshire Dales and it was excellent.

The window cleaners turned up this morning at 7.50 !! It is a good job I heard the ladder going up as the bedroom curtain was open .I had just a few seconds to scramble out of bed and run. I was happily sat there in bed with my 3rd cuppa and watching 999 Frontline on the laptop. I had been thinking of running myself a bath . Good job I didn't as the window in the main bathroom is not frosted !!!!!. That would have been a shock for both me and the cleaner LOL .There might have been a nasty accident if he fell off the ladder !!! I wasn't expecting them for another week.

I think Fitzy is coming tomorrow with photos of his stay in the cottage in Pembrokeshire . He is home from a weekend away with family and extended family.I think there were 20 or 22.A massive house was rented in Somerset where they all stayed .I think it was someone's Big Birthday. I will no doubt hear all about it tomorrow :-D

Thomas is in
:-D Not speaking to me LOL. Hopefully he is now flea free(not that I saw any). But with the scratching I thnk there were some lurking :-S

Anne

Anne Report 17 Oct 2017 20:30

Good evening all

I have tried several times to get on here since getting back.

We had a lovely holiday last week with a good journey both ways including the M25.

The cottage was absolutely wonderful and very comfortable I haven't slept so well for ages. Ruby was a good girl and enjoyed playing with Bella my niece's spaniel puppy who is a couple of months older.

We popped into my Dad's old shop in Tunbridge Wells, which he opened in 1958 with his business partner, its still named Bailey Wighton Ltd. We also went into Tonbridge a nice little town.

I had a couple of coindences while away, when Richard and Paul went into the shopping centre in Hastings I sat on a seat outside with Ruby and another lady about my age sat beside me and we got chatting and it turned out her first job was where I had my first office job, the other one was in Tunbridge Wells and I was looking for the toilets as she was going the same way as us we walked along with her and her daughter had lived in Bracknell and still goes to one of the local churches.

We met up with Mark and took him out for a birthday meal in The New Inn near to where the cottage was so he came back with us for a while.

I haven't managed to read all the posts yet but hope everyone is ok. I did see the photo of Jilly before and after her bath bless her what a sweet little dog

We are going to watch Chris Packham on BBC2 about him having Aspergers as it may help us understanding a little more about Mark.

Evening All,

Ohh Jane :-D :-D :-D! That was a really narrow squeak with the window cleaner!! I bet you were glad you hadn't got in the bath......hope you have plenty of bubbles!!!!! lol. As you say, if he had caught you in the bath the look on both your faces would have been priceless!! Your window cleaner is sounding more like ours who is unpredictable what day he turns up these days. You know ours is close when you hear his radio.......maybe that is his warning to make yourself decent!! lol.

My tooth feels wonderful now Mandy.......such a relief as you say. I'm being careful what I chew on it though, don't want the temporary filling coming out! Today it has been less sensitive than for the past year or two so I think there must have been a bit of a crack or something for a long while.

It was very windy in the night and I had to wedge the bedroom door shut to stop it rattling as I had the window open an inch or so. No damage here though and I saw none when I was out and about today.

I gave the kitchen a good tidy up and clean today and it looks much better. The hob and toaster are gleaming and I also cleaned the microwave, but I left the floor to do tomorrow as I'd had enough by then. lol. I can also switch the oven to clean itself tomorrow as I noticed that needed doing when I cooked the turkey. OH is at a local match tonight, but we are getting up early tomorrow to go to a garden centre that has a huge building full of decorated Christmas trees, gifts and decorations that is not far from Oakham. There is a nice restaurant so I think we are having breakfast there to start with. I'll have to watch OH though as it will be slapped hands if he touches things! Last time we went he picked up an ornament of some boxing Hares........and a leg fell off!! He swears it must have been cracked already. It was hilarious watching him trying to hold it together and prop it up on the shelf so no-one could tell. :-)

You got a good sleep last night Frank and it's good that nasty cold is about clear too. Shame about the wind damage in your garden though. I think we just missed it here. Are they just keeping an eye on Ros for now?

Think I'm going to bed as OH won't be back for another hour or more as he'll be dropping his pal at home. I have some recorded progs to watch.

Gillx

Gillx Report 18 Oct 2017 08:48

Morning all

It feels quite cold outside today compared to the last few days. We didn't have much damage in our garden just some bits of bird nests that had fallen out of the trees down the bottom of the garden plus some bits of the hedge from when the neighbour's over the back had it cut a few months ago, so all I needed to do was give the area a good brush and pop the rubbish in the bin.

We went to MIL's yesterday as it was her birthday, then called in to see OH's brother. He looks so old now and he was telling us that the cancer is stage 4 which means they can't operate. He has 2 more bouts of Chemo to go but then they can't give him anymore. He's having a scan next week then he'll see the specialist, so he'll know if the Chemo is doing anything or not. His wife is having her hair cut off for Macmillan Cancer Support, so we sponsored her for that. So far she has raised over £300

We called in the garden centre with all the Christmas decorations and found some Christmas tree lights I was after last year. I prefer the old fashion fairy lights rather than the LED ones and couldn't find any last year so I'm pleased I found them, I've also bought some extra bulbs too. Sandra bought a lovely Baby's 1st Christmas Stocking for her friend's little girl and I found a little bauble with the baby's name on, so Sandra bought one of those too. When we arrived at the garden centre it was closing in half an hour so we're going to take Sandra back to look at the decorations another day as she didn't have time to see them all. At least she bought the Christmas Stocking she was after and was very happy. We also found out the date for the Christmas event they have every year.

I haven't caught up with the posts yet as I kept getting the error page so I don't want to chance trying to get to the previous page until I've sent this post. Hope everyone is okay.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 18 Oct 2017 10:36

I'll try again.

Morning all,

Its dull and miserable and cold here this morning and I feel awful.

I have a dry mouth and a sore throat and a cough and I think its these pills I am taking which is why I wanted an appointment with the doc the other day.

Gill I am pleased your screening stayed up in that wind the other day. I had visions of you and oh out in the garden again trying to put it back up. Your poor brother in law. Is his wifes hair very long? or is it just that she wants to have it cut off to raise money for cancer research.

Is'nt it annoying when you find someone with the same rellies as you and they have the wrong wife on their tree? Everyone they share their info with copies their mistake and it starts the ball rolling.

Gillx

Gillx Report 18 Oct 2017 11:17

BIL's wife's hair is about shoulder length, her husband is losing his hair with the Chemo so I think that might have something to do with it, plus it's raising money for Macmillan cancer support which is such a good cause. The Macmillan nurses have been wonderful with BIL, so I think it's his wife's way of giving something back.

Yes, it is annoying when people build their tree's wrong and other's just copy without checking. I have just been given access to an Ancestry tree and noticed the wife is wrong, which of course means all the children, grandchildren etc.....are wrong too. Thankfully I have the right family, I know it's right as it's OH's family leading to his granddad.

It sounds like you have the same sore throat I've had for the past few days, I've got a tickly cough with it too. More annoying than anything. I've been drinking plenty which seems to ease it a bit. There must be something going around as quite a few people we know have the same thing. Hope you feel better soon Mel <3

Yes, OH and I are pleased we strengthened the framework for the screening so it didn't fall down. Just a bit of twigs etc....to brush up, with no damage to anything :-)

Frank

Frank Report 18 Oct 2017 11:55

Morning Gill and Mel, How are the rest of you ???, Evening Kim.

Ros has to have another ring fitted next visit to the hospital. If this keeps moving she will have the operation. She asked about it yesterday, and from what she was told it won't be a big operation. But should cure the problem permanently. So we will see what goes from here. !!

I did a silly thing last night and had a Tesco Finest "FISH PIE" It repeated on me so much I had to go and get rid of it. NOT NICE. Then of course I was hungry, but didn't eat anything in case it upset me. So went to bed hungry. I have had some toast and my mate this morning.

I sat and watched "COAST" on BBC 1 then the RNLI BBC 2 One of the best programmes on the box. There were some drunken louts who decided to jump of Brighton Pier and had to be rescued. I think they should be fined a minimum of £1,000.00 for getting the lifeboat to come and rescue them. IDIOTS. I then watched Ben Foggle visiting a couple who lived on an Island of the coast of Perth. It was a real eye opener. All this OWN T.V. time while Ros was at Mother's Club.

Hells own job getting on here again, I had to start from age 1/10 and speed though to latest pages.

Jane. I had to smile at your predicament, you had me singing "WHEN I'M CLEANING WINDOWS. LOL LOL. Glad that you were able to stayed covered.

Gill, I can understand how your BIL must look, having been all through it with my DAD. My thoughts are with you and the family. Glad you didn't get the wind like we did.

Rain during the night and promise of showers today. It looks very still out there, but I haven't been out to see for myself.

I need to sort out something for dinner tonight. But the way my tummy feels, I don't want to think about food. !!!

Gillx

Gillx Report 18 Oct 2017 12:46

Oh dear Frank, that fish pie didn't agree with you did it. It sounds like you had a good night with the TV. I bought your birthday card yesterday, it made me laugh so when you receive it I hope you're not offended and you see the funny side to it. I'm sure you will laugh like I did......at least I hope so :-D :-D
I hope all goes well with Ros.

We did get the wind but thankfully the screening stayed in place now we've strengthened it. I have just noticed a small slate has come off the roof at the front so OH is fixing that now, it looks like one of the lower ones near the guttering. Good job we live in a bungalow as it's much easier to get to the roof compared with our old house, that was three stories high so OH wouldn't of been able to get to the roof plus it was on a hill overlooking the sea so very windy and not at all safe. Next door had to have scaffolding up when she had her roof seen to.

Going to catch up with some programmes I recorded yesterday, with Sandra now.

Frank Report 18 Oct 2017 15:06

No sun here Mel, just overcast with very little wind movement.

Ros has gone to renew her Blue Badge. I am not bothering to renew mine, as I don't go out with anyone to use it apart from Ros. and as she has hers, I can save the money and doing all the paper work.

I have been reading my book since Ros went out. I just looked at the clock, I have been reading for over two and a half hours.

Roast belly of pork tonight with Jacket Spud, Mushroom and onion whizzed up in cream and Balsamic vinegar, peas and carrots. I bet you girls must get like me, never know what to get for a change.,I sound like my Mother LOL LOL

I really must try to get out tonight. There is football on Sky, but I tend to have my evening meal, and can't be bothered to change to go out. Mind you with this weather there's not much to go out for !!!

Must ring Simon and my Sister later, to see they are both alright.. I can hear Ros coming in, so will go and put the kettle on.
