Frank, I was just thinking of that expression . Pride before a fall or something like that. I know you are a proud man and would not want to be seen with one of those walkers but if it was to help ...you never know :-D :-D.. Anyway enough of me telling you what I think you should do... Good job to make sure those planks of wood are still there LOLOL. I should hide the hammer and nails too :-D :-D

Glad Liz and Ian are ok.

I only knew of my Mums Brother Douglas who died in WW11.He was only a young boy of 21.Just 21 . His plane landed on fire at Moreton in Marsh Glos and he burnt to death along with all the others on the plane :-( :-(. He was the the baby of the family.
There must have been more relatives who perished but I never heard who. Probably in the WW1. There is no-one left to ask now .

Glad you enjoyed your Chinese last night even if it did give you a bit of the old indigestion. I do like a Chinese but they don't half make me thirsty in the night.

I think it is time ot light the fire now as the sun has gone from the lounge.

Afternoon All,

Lovely and sunny here but really cold too like everyone else says.

Jane that was a lovely thing to do to get a coffee for that chap. A little kindness can do so much to lift the spirits of someone who must be feeling quite low because of their circumstances and a hot drink was just the ticket for a cold day. We are finding we soon get too hot in the evenings, but at least we can switch our heat off. I seem to remember as a child, dad putting damp slack on the fire to slow the burning and heat when It got too hot. I bet Thomas was wishing he was wearing a 'onesie' he could take off!! lol. :-) Did James come home with any bottles after the Fest? I never noticed the moon earlier and I'd never heard the saying 'as dark as a cow's guts' before!.

Mel, you are lucky to have lovely Pheasants visit your garden. Do you think they know when the hens are fed so turn up and hope they will get some too? I could just eat a big breakfast right now!! :-S

Frank, I would hate it too but it's best to use whatever it takes if it helps you to stay mobile, you could always try 2 sticks if it helps. I hope it won't derail Ros's diet if it's really you that wants the extra treats? Maybe she has more willpower than me though and will just have small portions. :-) I will have tempation at the cinema tomorrow........it's that peanut butter cup ice cream!!! Drool.....lol. It's Paddington we are going to see.

Thank you for the photos Mandy. My word what a pretty young lady Chelsea is becoming and looking so grown up! She looks so comfy settled by the fire on the rug with her book. As for Max, he's so big and such a handsome boy. How could anyone resist those eyes!!! lol.

Gillx Report 12 Nov 2017 17:39

I love the photo's Mandy, Chelsea had the right idea laying in front of the fire reading. No wonder Max lays on your feet, he can't get near the fire LOL. I've just shown Sandra and OH the picture of him and compared it with the picture you sent of him when he was a puppy, he's grown so much and is such a handsome boy.

Pleased to hear Thomas gave you an extra hour in bed Jane. Yes Sandra and I are very organised this year. I just hope I have enough wrapping paper to wrap everything up on Monday when OH is at his mates. I think I've got some extra paper but I'm not sure if it's Christmas paper or birthday, so will have to root it out and see. It sounds like Chris got himself in a right state sorting out Thomas and the poor bird, I bet he was glad to see you. Did James enjoy the Gin Fest, I thought it was the other day, sorry my mistake. Did the steroid cream work, I hope it hasn't got any worse, you must be fed up of it all. At least your fingers are starting to heal now, so that's good news. How did the kitchen cupboard fall off, you're not having much luck lately are you? Good job it wasn't one above your head. Let's hope your luck changes for the better now. Have you tried using Bicarbonate of Soda in your washing machine as that is suppose to eliminate smells, or like Mel said, Soda crystals.

I would go to the art club Ann, it sounds like you'd enjoy it and your paintings are brilliant so you don't need to worry about that. Yes, I did manage to get another two pairs of jeans. I was lucky as they only had two pairs in my size left. They are so comfy, although they are a bit to long so I've tucked them under a few inches. I only had one pair of jeans and they were starting to wear out. They'll do for the gardening now.

I bought a couple more large plants the other day as well, two Red Robin's, as the wind knocked one of our conifers over so we had to move it and that left a gap. They were suppose to ring me yesterday with a delivery date but they didn't so I've rang them today to be told the fella who does the delivery is off work today so he'll ring me tomorrow. I hope they don't take to long to deliver them as we'd like to re-pot them into larger pots before the weather turns to cold.

Sandra liked the snow picture I had on my laptop so I've changed my picture, she's still hoping for snow this year. I really hope she gets some this time around.

I see you've changed yours too Ann :-)

I just love the look on Max's face as much as to say "well you have now worn me out so I am now going to have a rest".

Has'nt Chelsea grown!! That's a lovely picture to keep Mandy as its so natural. When they know you are going to take a picture its never the same somehow.

My washing got wet three times today and so I brought it in. The winds dropped here now but earlier there was such a crash and when I looked out of the window my new bird feeder was laying on the ground. I am glad it fell towards the bungalow as if it had gone the other way it would have hit my car right across the bonnet.

I wonder why the bonnet on a car is called that? it not on the top!!!!!

Yes Chelsea has grown ,but oh my goodness she is the naughty one :-0 you wouldn't think so to look at her .

Good morning all,

We have a very frosty start to the day but the suns shining and the skies blue without a cloud in sight. At the moment but that could all change.............

Did anyone watch Howards End last night? I like Matthew MacFadden and it looks like it may be good.

Nice avatar of Max Mandy and what a clever girl to do it all by yourself. Well done take a gold star.

Morning all,

Nice sunny morning here but a bit on the chilly side.

Not sure about Howards End i thought it was a bit slow but will see what next weeks is like.

No Jane Colin has his hearing aid fitting on Thursday, the doctors just rung his blood he had taken the other day is showing border line diabetes, so he has an appointment with the nurse 21st December, it's one thing after another , this getting old is no joke .
Hope you get on ok with your physio.

Coffee time .

Frank Report 13 Nov 2017 12:49

Good afternoon to you all,

Unusual to see Jan and Mandy on it the mornings.

We had recorded Heston Bloumenfiled (sp) you know who I mean, ;-) ;-) ;-) He closed his "FAT DUCK" and moved it to Melbourne Australia for six month. So when Howard's End came on, we couldn't get into it, so went to watch Heston. What a wonderful programme. Worth a look on catchup if you are interested. He took 70 staff and SEVEN TONS of equipment with him ro Melbourne.

I see Ruth has finally gone from Strictly, not before time in my mind. (hark at the expert) LOL LOL.

Gill you do know how big the "red robin" gets when fully grown. ?? I would have thought they were too big for pots. So you like Ros are well ahead of most, regarding presents for Christmas, I still have to find out what Ros wants. Very difficult buying for someone who seems to have everything, I suppose a bit of Jewellery will always go down well. I have bought coats and cloths in the passed.

Hope you get on alright at the Physo's Jane, I think that is something that we all could do with, to help us to be more mobile.

Ros had a couple of turns during the night. She got them when turning over. Her head just spins, and she feels so giddy even lying down. !!

Had a good night last night, only got out once, and I was in bed by 10.30. and didn't get up until 8.00 am. All showered and shaved, and had a grilled bacon and tomato sarnie and a third COT. So set for the day. Did manage to shower today without falling over. But had to have a sit-down for ten minutes, between shower and shave. So still not that steady on my pins.

Bright sunshine and BLUE SKY"S to start the day, now it's grey and still. But very cold.

We have nothing planned for today, and Ros isn't going to slimmers club this evening, but going on Wednesday morning, when it will be less busy.

Has anyone got a number for ANNE, it seems so strange not hearing from her.

I trust everybody in well and staying warm. xxx

Gillx Report 13 Nov 2017 13:27

Afternoon all

A bit of a dull day here today but so far dry.

Sorry to hear Ros is still under the weather Frank, hope she's feels better soon. I was the same when I had my ear infection, the dizziness didn't stop even when I lay down. Yes, the Red Robins can grow really large, but being in pots keeps them under control. I rang them again today and they said they will deliver the plants either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Sandra and I are busy so I asked if they could bring them at 9am in the morning. I hope the weather is dry tomorrow as I need to re-pot the plants into slightly larger pots and put them in place down the bottom of the garden.

I hope all went well at Physio today Jane

I recorded Howards End last night Mel, so will watch it when I get 5 minutes.

Sorry to hear about Colin, Mandy. Can it be controlled through changing his diet? Hopefully the nurse will be able to advice him on the 21st December.

Sandra and I have just finished wrapping up the Christmas presents for family and friends. All that's left to do is the presents I've got for her and the presents she's got for me. So she's in her room wrapping her's and I'll wrap Sandra's up in the living room.

The lamb we had yesterday was lovely, we had quite a bit over so I'm just making a lamb stew for dinner.

If you're looking in Anne, thanks for my birthday card. I didn't look at it properly as I noticed you said not to open until the 23rd, but the envelope was ripped so I took a sneaky look for who it was off. I didn't read the message or look at the picture. I've given it to Sandra to keep hold of and she'll give it to me on the day. Hope you are keeping well, you haven't been on here for a while.

Yes I hope you get on ok with your phiysio too, fingers crossed.

Mandy thats what happened to oh and he is now on pills for it.

He is outside making a frame to go on top of the gazebo thing outside the back door. He is going to put polythenen on them so it will keep the rain from out of the porch and will also keep any washing thats on the line dryish

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Nov 2017 14:53

Its turned cloudy here too now and its ever so cold out.

We have had lunch and I washed up and oh has just gone outside again. He has made one frame but the poluthene dos'nt arrive till later in the week. I think he is just rounding up some screws the right size now for what he wants. If he has'nt gone them I shall get them tomorrow when I go shopping.

Yes I hope our Anne is ok and there has'nt been anymore trouble with the grandaughters etc. Love to Ruby too.

Frank Report 13 Nov 2017 15:53

It's only me again. Have been pumping Ros for ideas for Christmas Presents. No Cloths, boots, shoes, perfume. I know a piece of jewellery always goes down well, but she has so much, and it's not cheap, not that I will buy anything cheap. I usually spend around £100.00. I bought her a new phone, and watch this year already, so they are out. Blooming women, I just don't know what to buy. (NEW GARDENING TOOLS) do you think. That would put paid to my Christmas. LOL LOL.

Went to put the bins out earlier, and I just can't get warm again. I must go and put a jumper on. The hating is on as well. !!

Mel, I don't know what we would do without our porch. It gives us extra security having the extra door to lock, plus it certainly keeps the cold out. When you open the door to go in there, the cold hits you in the face. So the extra protection the OH is doing will help no end. Your OH is certainly one who isn't afraid of work. He's always doing something. IS HE FOR HIRE ??

Hope Lady Jane got on alright today, and isn't to sore after her work out. !!! Jane is it the hospital you go to or is it Private.??

Madam has got all her Christmas cards written this afternoon. The Bishop's chair cover she is doing has come to a grinding halt, as Carol hasn't ordered any more wool, and Ros has run out. She has rung her three times now, to tell her to order it. Today she made it quite clear, that if she can't be bothered then let Ros have th number and she will order it herself. :-| :-| :-| She was very short with her.

I will get myself a Jacket tonight with ham and cheese, while Ros will have one of her many ready meals.

So you have heard from Anne then Gill. When did the card arrive. ?? perhaps Anne is busy with other things, but it would be nice to know she's O.K.

Many, you will have to be careful as Jane said, what you say about Colin under your breath, believe me THEY HEAR EVERYTHING !! I should know with Ros and hers. LOL LOL. She's everlasting saying "WHAT DID YOU SAY" when I am mumbling in the kitchen. Hope the diabetes sorts it's self out with tablets. Most people can, including HER IN DOORS. !!!

Lights all on in the lounge, and it will only get earlier for the next 6 weeks or so. Roll on the SPRING.

Annx Report 13 Nov 2017 16:20

Afternoon All,

Quite chilly here today, but it suits me fine as I was able to wear my fleece without sweltering this morning. :-) We went to see Paddington 2 which was good, better than the first I think and I thought Hugh Grant was excellent! Then we had a cheap carvery lunch, small plates, on the way back and then I took the charity shop clothes I sorted to the Dogs' Home charity shop. They were selling their necklaces for 50p this week and 2 had long pretty chains which are handy for jewellery making so I got those just for the chains!

Frank it might be worth asking the doc next time you go if there are exercises you could do to help your balance. I do some for my knees lying on the bed that strengthen your thigh muscles which helps with balance. You were sensible to sit down after your shower till you felt more steady. I would have my shower sitting if I were you. You remind me of a cat with 9 lives and I worry you might do yourself a mischief with one of these falls. I expect it may take a little while for Ros' ear infection to clear up, but it must be horrid for her if it is there even when she is lying down. I agree with you and am glad Ruth has gone from Strictly. I still miss Aston going, one of the best!

As you say Mandy, this getting older business is no joke is it! OH often says the same as you, what next. I expect Colin will be getting lots of lifestyle advice. They tend to stress how important that is at the Research meetings I go to as many patients think that as long as medication works they can carry on with their old diet etc. I have my blood test next Monday and know I have been eating too much choccie recently plus a few cakes! I have an inquisition when I try to book the test, who says I need it etc, where is the letter telling me? I just wish they'd note my records that the Research Unit said I need an annual one!!

Mel, a 'bonnet' is a car engine's hat? lol. ;-) It was lucky your new bird feeder missed yours. They have sharp edges and could cause a nasty scrape or gouge. :-S. We watched Howards End, but to be honest I found it hard to get into and a bit boring. The Blue Planet was excellent as usual. :-D

Gill, you must be pleased to be getting your presents all wrapped up! Have you and Sandra managed to wrap each other's now without any peeping round the door? lol.

I hope Jane's physio has helped her this morning. Come to think of it I've never had physio.

OH is off to a match tonight so I will see if I can get the bird stuck back together while he is out of the way (in other words, so it can set without him knocking it over again!)

I'm tackling another wardrobe next keeping an eye out for that stick! I thought I was going to have to find my old scales this morning. When I weighed me on the Wii it said I had lost 1 stone 4 pounds in the last fortnight!! My eyes nearly popped out at that but I knew it was telling porkies. Once I switched everything off and then on again it told the truth........up 2 pounds!!! :-0 lol.

Jane Report 13 Nov 2017 17:27

Afternoon All
Thank goodness you have heard from Anne Gill, good job you had a little peek i nthe envelope :-D. At least we know she is ok as it is so worrying when we don't hear from one of for a long time.Hopefully she will be back on the thread soon.

I had a lovely lady Physio this morning. She took lots of notes and had lots of prods on my back and hip and then I had to do a few gentle exercises .They were gentle but I do seem to be aching new lol.Probably because it muscles I haven't been using properly. She said that my lower back and hip are really very stiff but the back pain is probably caused by my hip. So I have to do these excercises for 2 weeks and then go back again.I reckon then I shall be given slightly more strenuous ones.
It is NHS Physio Frank, at Kettering Hospital .

That must be really unpleasant for Ros getting so dizzy just by turning over in bed.I suppose it is still early days and will take a little while to get better.

Mandy,I think usually diet will be the first thing to change a bit with OH's borderline Diabetes.I hope that is all that is needed and that he wont have to start meds.

Ann,I am so pleased you enjoyed Paddington 2. I was hoping you would as we are going on the 29th.It does sound good. I am not a great fan of Hugh Grant but have seen some clips of the film and he does look great in it.

I am so tired.I got up for the loo about 4am and just could not go back to sleep again. So once again I was downstairs before 5. I made a cup of tea and watched Howards End on catchup. I think it is going to be quite good. Chris watched it last night and thought it was a bit boring ,but often it takes a couple of programmes to get into a new Drama .

Must go Hannah is on the phone...back from Marrakesh :-D :-D

Well who would have thought it. I HAVE WRITTEN ALL MY CHRISTMAS CARDS. I knew I had to get the overseas ones done, so while I had my address book out I went right through it. Now I can relax and forget about them. I just hope I haven't missed anyone !!

Glad you got on alright Jane. A few exercises will be good for you. I trust Hannah had a nice few days away with her friends.

Ann, I know I should do a bit more with my time, rather than sit and read. I MUST get out and do a bit of walking on a daily basis. Ten minutes round the block will do me the world of good. It's just getting the umpth to get going that I need LOL. I have a stool in the shower, but never get round to sitting on it. It seems a long way down, and I am frightened I might have a job getting up. I don't like to put to much strain on those handles, as the sucker might come away, the I would be in trouble.

My Jacket SPUD has been in since 4.00 pm, so must go and check it. I am looking forrward to it. makes a change from roasts and veg.

Jane

Jane Report 13 Nov 2017 18:19

Frank,I think you might be able to get proper fixed hand rails fitted if you mentioned to the GP.They would probably get the Occupational Therapist to come and have a look and see what is best for you. Worth asking. I too would be worried that the suckers would come off the tiles !!! You need to be safe in the shower.

Well aren't you good to get all your cards done. I have only written my overseas ones and all my friends here.Must do more tomorrow.

Hannah said she had a really lovely time. No problem with men following them or being a nuisance. She said they got lost a few times in the Medina but everyone was really helpful and led them to where they were looking for.Not even expecting payment. I was surprised when she said there was no time difference and it was only a 3 hour flight !!. They saw some snake charmers, monkeys and where there were staying there were lots of Goats and Donkeys(all really well looked after :-D ) There little 3 day old baby goats too. ahhh! No clubbing or late nights for the girls. It all sounded very civilised. I think it was just needing a few days of chilling out and pottering around. One of Hannahs friends has a young baby of about 8 or 9 months .I know the first few months after having him were quite hard with him never sleeping and just crying all the time so I think she has enjoyed just having a bit of time to herself .Her Husband had baby :-D...Bet he is glad she is home now :-D :-D

I made a chicken pie with filo pastry on top for tonight. I added leeks mushrooms ans Asparagus so that is the veg sorted :-D. I might just do a few new potatoes for the men . Frank I haven't done Baked Potatoes for a long time. Chris likes Tuna on his but I prefer chicken and sweetcorn with salad cream .

I wonder what Maureen is doing for her big 70 tomorrow. I have a feeling she might be with her son in Bedford but she doesn't want lots of balloons with 70 on LOL

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Nov 2017 19:04

Wow Jane some big cacti there alright. I am glad she is home safely and they all enjoyed themselves without being bothered by anyone. I would have loved to have seen the baby goats. I had my two from one day old and the vet told me I would never rear them as they were taken away from mum too quickly. If I had'nt have had them they would have gone in the freezer.

The chicken pie sounds nice how do you put the filo pastry on the top? Is it a faff?
