Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Dec 2017 08:47

Good morning All,

Dull and miserable and raining............................dreary, dark and horrid but it is warmer I think.

I have a ring to do today for a lady and gent in the village. I do it each year. They don't like any artifial flowers in it or bows. It all has to be all natural stuff. I quite like doing this one as each year it is a challenge to find things that will look ice in it.

Gillx Report 13 Dec 2017 09:38

Morning Mel, morning all

All the snow has gone now as we had a bit of rain last night, the only bit of snow we have left is the remains of Sandra's 8 snowmen, that don't look much like snowmen anymore, but at least they're still there for her to see.

It looks like you're going to be busy again today Mel with your ring for the lady and gent in the village I hope you find what you are looking for to make it. How are your hands and fingers, hope they're aren't to sore?

Have you managed to thaw your toothpaste out yet Jane? It must be very cold if it's frozen on you. Roll on Thursday so you can have your boiler sorted. I bet you can't wait after all this time?

Sorry to hear about your eldest SIL's problems Anne, let's hope the snow has melted now so everything can go back to normal. I hope she had some food in the house and hasn't gone hungry and the carers can make it there now.

Well, I was right about the roofers, they took the ridge tiles off and have left large gaps as they have only placed them back, not stuck down and not a snug fit either. There's also no waterproof covering that we can see on our side. It looks like one of the roof tiles on our side is stuck to one of the ridge tiles and they haven't put it back where it was originally so there isn't a tile there anymore.

We heard lots of noise last night, but because it was dark we couldn't see what it was, so when we got up this morning we took a look and the mortar that was holding the ridge tiles on was all over the roof, some of it had gone in our gutter and some had fallen into our garden, so OH had to get a yard brush and brush it all down so he could reach it to clear it all away. There are a few small bits near the top that he couldn't reach but they should wash down with the rain then he can take them out of the gutter.

So far the roofers haven't turned up, they are normally hear by now so I hope next door hasn't fell out with them and they are refusing to come back as the rain is getting into our roof space at the moment and we don't want our ceilings coming down. Some of the gaps are around 6 inches so if the wind blows in that direction it'll push the rain underneath the ridge tiles. I hope they come back and sort the problem out soon. :-( :-(

We've had to move a couple of pot plants this morning and replace them with a couple of evergreens. They were the last of the perennial's, I think they died back with all the snow that was on them, so they are out of sight now. It's handy having a pot garden as you can re-arrange the borders if and when. At the moment you can't tell anything has been changed as the evergreens fit in nicely with the rest of the border.

We're getting a bit concerned over the log book for the new car, it hasn't arrived yet and when OH rang the garage they said it was only sent off last Friday, a week after we bought the car and if we rang the DVLA they wouldn't be able to tell us if they have it or not as it wouldn't be in our name yet. Is that true Frank? I thought I'd ask you as we're not sure if it's true or not. They insisted we pay cash for the car and they Taxed it for us. We're starting to think it might not be Taxed now. Should we ring the DVLA and see what they have to say. We feel like we might of been conned and we don't want to be driving around with no Tax.
It's a bit of a problem day today, sorry to ask for your help Frank, but I couldn't think of anyone else to ask.

The roofers have finally turned up, so Mr Grumpy mustn't of fell out with them after all. I might ask OH to have a word with them so see if they can put some waterproof plastic on the top of our kitchen roof until they are ready to re-tile it. At least that'll be one problem out of the way. I hope the day gets better, it's not been very good so far. :-( :-(

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Dec 2017 10:20

Gill you can check if your car is taxed online. Put in the search box DVLA tax and you can go from there.

Gillx

Gillx Report 13 Dec 2017 10:39

Thanks Mel I'll try that.

Thank you Ann for the Christmas cards, Sandra loves her's and the stickers you put in them, you should of seen her, she said "OH WOW" and had a big beaming smile on her face. She's said to say thank you <3

I've PM'd you Frank as I forgot to say something about the car, hope you don't mind me asking you for advice. :-)

Gillx

Gillx Report 13 Dec 2017 10:52

I've just done a Tax Check Mel and it's Taxed properly, thank you for letting me know I could do it online, at least that's one problem sorted.

Now all I need to know is if the vehicle is in our name. The reason I'm a bit concerned about that is because they said they would send the log book off at the same time they sent the log book for our old car. We had confirmation the other day that the old car is no longer in our name, which is good, but nothing so far about the new car being in our name and we are concerned as the log book for the new car was sent a week after they said they would do it. So they lied. They said something about the delay being because they send lots of logs books off together, so they wait until they have a pile of them. That's sounds very odd to me.

For all we know they may still not have sent the log book off ,as we only have their word for it. I wish I'd gone with OH to pick the car up as I would of insisted on taking the log book home with us and we would of sent it to the DVLA ourselves. All we know so far is that it's taxed, but not that it's in our name, let's hope we haven't taxed it for them and it's still in their name.

Frank Report 13 Dec 2017 11:38

Morning all my little SNOW FLAKES. !!! Evening Kik,

Gill he garage should have giving you a Tear off piece of the Registration Document, which you keep until the new document arrives from the DVLA. I understand them sending LOG BOOKS off when they get a few. LUCKY them selling a lot of cars, that needs them to stock pile them !!! I will read your pm later when I am finished posting this.

It must be very difficult getting deliveries out to people, when the weather is like it is. Lets hope they will get back to normal now.

The plumber is next door again this morning. That's THREE DAYS. I didn't think it took that long to fit a boiler. Lets hope it's only a small part that's needed for your boiler Jane, and that he has it in his VAN, and you don't want to have to wait for one to be sent in the post.

Ros has gone to deliver a few cards, and gone to be weighed. She is also going to see if she can get something else for Conrad. Jan said he wanted a new fleece, so she bought three as presents. One for us to give to CONRAD but it was only £10.00. She is going to T K MAX so she's sure to find something there.

I must get Conrad to transfer all MY stuff on this MAC BOOK onto my old LAP TOP as I can't go on with this without a "T" It's driving me MAD :-P :-P :-P

Stay safe if you are going out. There's a lot of BAG SNATCHING going on round Northampton. Plus muggings

Gillx Report 13 Dec 2017 11:49

Thanks Frank I've just checked through all the paperwork they gave us (there was quite a lot) and tucked inside it all was a green slip of paper off the log book stating that if we haven't received a new log book in 4 weeks to send that piece to them and they will issue a log book in our name. Thanks for letting me know about it as I wouldn't of thought to go through it again. I don't know how we missed it the first time around, never mind I've found it now and I feel much better.

The roofers have moved the ridge tiles along so they sit slightly better now, although they said they would put some felt under it which they haven't done, but at least it's better than it was before. Good job too as it's pouring with rain now.

I'm slowing getting through all the problems I had this morning and starting to feel a little calmer now. I was quite worried about the roof when we heard some dripping last night and didn't know what it was. We're still not sure it was water coming into the loft or just the snow and rain coming off the roof, but at least if it was water going into the loft there won't be so much of it now the tiles have been straightened.

I think I might do some baking today, that normally makes me feel good and we'll have some goodies to eat later. Sandra wants to help, so we'll have a lovely afternoon baking, we like doing that together

Thanks again Frank and Mel for your help :-) :-)

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Dec 2017 12:27

Your welcome Gill. You have to remember the post is a bit slow at the moment with everyone posting cards etc. Your parcels first class took longer than normal to get to you.

My feet got cold out in the shed as I have only one pair of socks on so I came in for a coffee and will put another pair on before going out there again. I have some of those boot liners somewhere but you can never find these things when you need them.

I have done some wiring and collected more ivy flowers and leaves and some varigated holly to put the berries on and some green holly for round the ring so thats a nice lot of stuff ready to do the special ring.

Frank

Frank Report 13 Dec 2017 14:39

Gill, You are more than welcome. I am pleased that I could be a little help and you are more settled now. Enjoy your afternoon baking with Sandra, AND RELAX. Uncle Frank is always on hand to help ;-) ;-) ;-)

Well it's hammering down with rain here, so the remaining snow will soon be gone. I think it will get warmer as well. that will be good for Jane with no heating.

Soon be finished all your wreaths then Mel. I bet you are glad to see the back of them, even though you enjoy doing them every year. <3 <3 <3

Ros was weighted this morning. Not a happy bunny she has put on 3 lbs this week. But she did get SLIMMER OF THE MONTH for November and SLIMMER OF THE WEEK last week. She is at the hairdressers this afternoon, and having her nails done tomorrow morning at 11.00 am.

We have invited Pam and Denis in for Coffee/drinks for Friday morning, which they have accepted and say they are looking forward to. It's so nice to have good neighbours, even if they SPRINKLE salt on their drive with a SPOON. ;-) ;-) ;-) I don't think I will ever forget that.

Before Ros went to he hairdressers, I had my shower and shave. I came out from there shaking like a leaf. Roa said I must ask the doctor about the STATINS I am taking, as Jan said she has stopped taking hers, and she is much better, :-D :-D

I tried a piece of the Christmas Cake again today. It's very tasty. So I will eat it if no one else does. !!!

We had a bowl of stew earlier. So I don't expect we will want much for tea tonight.

Gillx Report 13 Dec 2017 14:44

It sounds like the special ring is going to look lovely Mel, can I see a pic when it's finished pleased? Yes I thought it might take a little longer for the log book with it being around Christmas. I was just worried that they may not have sent the log book off, but now I've found the green slip I feel more relaxed about it.

Well, 2 large cakes Sandra and I have made, , a vodka and coke and a few Christmas songs later I'm feeling really chilled LOL :-D :-D :-D :-D
Sandra and OH want a piece of cake but one of them has only just come out of the oven, so they'll have to wait until they are cold enough to put the filling in. I've made a Vicky sponge and a chocolate sponge, so that should keep them happy for a while. OH asked for some sausage rolls too, the cheeky thing :-D I said I'd make some but he said he was only joking. I'll be making some nearer Christmas along with some quiches and more cakes and probably a few other bits and bobs anyway, so it's not long for him to wait.

Just noticed you've replied to my PM Frank, so I'll go and read it now.

Had lunch and now I am going back to my shed.

Frank Report 13 Dec 2017 17:30

Finished my book at last. Very enjoyable. I have three more by the same author to read.

Ros has just stood and made a "BOILED ONION ROLL" for tomorrows dinner. So thats another meal I won't have to cook. ;-) ;-) Her hair looks very nice, and I commented on it, without being asked. so 5* to me. LOL

Your baking sounds nice Gill. I love cakes but they don't like me. I think it is the flour and fat that gives me indigestion. But I do eat a bit now and again.

Has anyone been watching the series on ITV. I have watched parts of it but have recorded it also, as Ros will be out tomorrow night (CHOIR)

We have decided we won't eat tonight, but might have a bit of Cheese on Toast later. I've got a new bottle of Galveston in the kitchen ;-) ;-) ;-)

I have sone the special wreath and taken a pic so I will now download it and send it on.

Jane Report 13 Dec 2017 18:08

Afternoon Everyone

Frank, Ros has done so well with losing weight, she mustn't be too hard on herself for putting a little bit on this week. Im sure it will come off again .

What is a boiled onion roll? I couldnt eat it if is all onion.I bet it is very tasty though :-D

Mel you busy thing with the rings. They will look smashing with all the natural foliage .
Yes I did take the brown outer paper off your parcel but it is still all wrapped in the christmas paper and i wont be peeping :-D

Og Gill it sounds like you have had a really stressful day what with the worry about the roof and the car. I bet that Vodka and Coke went down a treat :-D Just the one? ;-)
At least you can relax and not worry about the car now an the roof sounds as though it is pretty secure. I expect the dripping you could hear would have beeen the thawing snow and ice. Most of the snow here has gone now but there are still some very icy patches around. I took some pairs of trousers in to the Dry Cleaners to be shortened today and the little car park there was still like an ice rink :-S I did a right waddle from the car to the shop LOL

It has felt quite warm here today (in the house) I am actually beginning to feel a bit hot now but I do have a thick jumper on ,the fire going and the oven too,so I might have to put a thinner one on .
Chris is going to finish of the Beef Casserole from yesterday, and James and Me have Lincolnshire Sausages . Mash for all of us and sprouts for Chris,Multi coloured Chantennay carrots and Mushrooms for James and me.

I have put a few more baubles on the tree this afternoon as there seemed to be a few gaps. Some lights in a big glass bowl and the ones around the garland on the mantlepiece. I still have the outside ones to do on the Box by the front door. There was no point doing them with all that snow !

Please keep all your fingers crossed for us tomorrow and that the gas engineer turns up and can do something with this boiler.

Frank is the programme you are talking about the Hatton Garden Heist? I havent watched it. Nothing much tonight I want to see so it might be an early night with my Kindle and Hot Water Bottle :-D Chris wll be over the other side of the bed as he hates the bottle.

I have just seen an email come through from Mel so will have a look.

It had its beady eye on me standing on the patio in a red hat! Its what I always wear and sometimes when they are out there and I have been going to feed the hogs I wave to them and they still look at me and then carry on eating. They are enjoying the apples.

Annx Report 13 Dec 2017 20:19

Evening All,

The rain here started last night, but we had a real downpour after lunch and it was so dark! All the snow on my car has gone now ready for me to go out in it tomorrow!

That's a nice gift you made for Sandra Mel. I see you had used some stem stitch on it. The natural wreath is lovely and I can see why they wanted another one this year. Nice pic of the deer too and good that they are helping to use some more of your apples for you. They must really love them.

That was a lot of snow your SIL had Anne! It must be a worry for people who need to rely on help when it snows like that. It's lucky they managed. I had a look at the website and saw some weaving and quite fancied having a go! It looks a great place and Steven must enjoy himself there. They make some nice things.

I had a panic yesterday when I couldn't see my credit card in my purse. I went back to the last shop where I bought something and they didn't have it, but when I searched the rest of my purse I had put it back with a discount card I'd used that was the same size! Phew! the relief!

They had put us on a table away from the noisy parties where we ate today which was good of them. They also came and told us ahead of everyone else when the carvery was ready so we didn't have to queue. :-) One table had all come in Christmas jumpers which was funny. One had a Christmas tree on with flashing baubles! I thought I bet Sandra would like one of those! :-)

Jane I'm keeping everything crossed for you!! I hope everything gets sorted tomorrow and that you are toasty warm again.

Gill that's naughty the roofers not making things waterproof for you. Hopefully they will finish your side next. I'm glad Sandra liked the stickers and thought she can't have too many with the card making she loves to do. :-) I seem to remember my log book took a few weeks to come when I bought my current car as I was beginning to wonder whether it was going to come or not. Your cakes sound lovely and I could just fancy a slice now!!

Frank, I think Ros is doing so well with her weight loss, and she can expect the odd blip like this. I know myself how disheartening it can be though. Is the onion roll made with suet? I haven't watched the prog and yes, cheese at night might not be a good idea! A friend of mine has come off statins too because of side effects.
