Morning all

A bit drizzly here today.

That's a shame you got the days muddled up Ann, you were looking forward to going to the garden centre, at least it'll be something nice to do today.

Good idea to stay indoors with your crafts today Mel, your weather sounds awful. Mind you I think we're all in for some bad weather over the next few days.

I've not heard of Rescue Remedy before Jane, so just Googled it. Thank you for telling me about it. I'm a lot calmer today, I think it just got a bit to much yesterday, but now they're not going to go near our boundaries anymore I feel much better.

I think the last lot of concrete has gone down on next doors extension, the concrete truck/mixer was outside our drive for almost two hours this morning so poor OH couldn't get out. They've gone now and give them their due they cleaned everywhere up so OH didn't drive over it. It sounded like they were putting concrete down the bottom of the garden as well where they said the shed was going. No sign of the digger today so hopefully that bit is all finished now. The brick layers were suppose to be back today but I think it'll be tomorrow or the day after now as the concrete floor needs to dry.

One thing did make me laugh though, they took part of the down pipe away from the gutter so the digger could dig the footings, it's one right on the corner of the bungalow so of course the rain poured right down the building and onto the floor where the new build is, well today I noticed they had put some of it back but the bottom bit. I wonder if they think the rain will just drop nicely from the top to the bottom without any pipe there.......sometimes men amaze me with their man logic.

I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, kept tossing and turning so now I've got a bit of a headache. At least the digger has gone so I don't need to worry anymore. Although there is a porta loo in the front now.....nice

Good morning Mel and Gill, and all of you.

SNAP GILL, I had a terrible restless night, I feel totally out of it this morning. I have telephoned and cancelled my PHYSIO appointment. I just don't feel like being pulled about. I still have to go to the nurse at 2.30 for my monthly injection.

Glad you are feeling a bit more settled this morning Gill. Just try to relax, and let it all happen.

Mandy, When we had the dogs, we got a cows shin bone for them to chew. Once you have boiled it and got the marrow out (which they loved) The bone kept the teeth sharp and clean. They would lay and chew it for hours. Ask you Butchers to save you one.

This a nice little bonus Ann. You will certainly be able to buy a lot of beads with £50.00.

You dirty old stop out Jane. It will take you a week to get over all these parties.

Do your birds often break the eggs Mel ?? is it for the yoke, or the shell for grit. I would imagine their food must be very expensive, and you don't need the little devils eating their eggs.
..
How I wish I had a BATH. I just feel I would like to lay back and relax in a nice tub of hot water. I will just have to make do with my shower. :-| :-| :-|

Filthy morning here again. Very windy with driving rain.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Nov 2018 15:02

Frank have you got a shower stool? If you have you could just sit on it and have the hot water running over your shoulder and back. Mush better than standing in there.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Nov 2018 15:06

Still lashing with rain and very very windy. The rain stops for a bit and then starts again so if you're going outside for anything you have to make sure you go when it stops.

Had a bit of a tidy away this morning which means I shan't be ablel to find anything again now..

I did find a box in a draw in the bedroom and when I opened it it had bagged up money from when I had the barrow out in 2010. I was aghast as there was a few pounds in there. I have bagged it all up now and shall take it to the shop who are always glad of change.

Afternoon All
It is a really dark and miserable day . Not heavy rain but just wet :-S. I was out and about this morning and was glad to get home an in out of the wind and drizzle.

So you will be washing the dishes for a bit longer then David :-S. I hope they dont change the delivery date again.

Frank, it was probably best that you cancelled your physio for today what with feeling all out of sorts and then having your injection this afternoon.Hope your bum isn't too sore now.

Gill it is worth just having some of that Rescue Remedy in a cuboard for days when you might be feeling anxious.I uses to use it when I had to go and see Mum when she was in the home and I knew it would be a difficult visit with her desperately wanting me to take her home and get her out of 'this place'.I would be puttig those drops on my tongue before leaving home and then again when I got to the home. I did find it helped.

Mel why dont you make yourself a little note to remind you where you have put things away :-D have you got a notice board you could pin a note on?

Hope you got to the Garden Centre today Ann :-D :-DI wonder how much you have spent there ;-) I was so good yesterday and bought nothing at our Garden Centre but I will be going back as I need a new Garland this year for the Mantlepiece .

I am still feeling so weary from all this partying. Its ridiculous. But I just keep reminding myself I am not in my 20s or 30s any longer :-( got plenty of great memories though :-D

Mandy those strong rope dogs toys are really tough . I think Max should be renamed JAWS lol

Beer Battered Cod, Chips and Cauliflower Cheese for us this evening. FRANK I do love a Cauliflower Cheese but just not with a Roast Dinner. Its the cheese sauce I think is wrong with a Roast because there is plenty of gravy and I never think to two go together.

Paid my telly licience on line again this year so thats out of the way.

Hav'nt done any craft today as I have been putting things away.

Jane I do have a book that I write things down in as to where they are but I don't seem to keep it up to date as I am always doing something at the time they arrive. I must get into the habit again. I made mum make one as she was always losing things.

Jane from up the road called round with the newletter and we had quite a natter on the doorstep.

Shame you will have to wash up now till Saturday David but the way the week is going it will soon be Saturday again.

Did anyone see the new series last night on BBC 1? There is another on tonight I think on BBC 2 I want to see. Both are three parters.

Evening all,

Rain first thing but by lunch time it had stopped but it's been a dark old day ,i went into the shed earlier and when i came out i could feel that it is milder today as it was much colder in the shed than out side .
We went to get our real Christmas tree today as Mole Valley had them 25% off and they are the Nordmann Fir that doesn't have as much needle drop not that i have it indoors we always have one at the front of the house with lights on .
We won't be putting it out yet though .
They have 10% off things tomorrow in their late night shopping so we'll get the dog food tomorrow and as we bought a tree we have a voucher for £5 off any thing in January .

Mel was that Mrs Wilson last night ? i recorded that ,then to night i think it's Death and Nightingales .

Did any one see Yorkshire Farm Family last night ? it's one to see if you missed it .
It's mother ,father and their nine children living in an isolated farmhouse in the Yorkshire Dales ,the children help on the farm and it was filmed over christmas last year ,the children had a stocking each with just simple little things in ,what a child hood they are having no television that i could see ,no tablets or electronic games .
In next weeks the little four year old helps with the lambing ,pulling the lamb out with her hands .

Evening All,

Horrid rainy day here and the wind has got up now. OH has just gone to one of his schools and I think he was wishing he was inside cosy and warm!

Best keep the Marigolds handy then David. :-D Remember 'Hands that do dishes can be soft as your face.' :-) Let's hope there are no more delays.

I was still awake at 4.00am this morning. It seems to be every time I have to be up early the next morning that I can't doze off. Jane I don't know how you managed to stay awake at the 80th Birthday bash. It sounds like Chris fell by the wayside earlier and he hadn't even been to London!! lol.

Frank, whenever you mention your injection I have this image in my head of Hattie Jaques with a big hypodermic needle. OH would hate having them done as he hates even tiny needles. It won't hurt to have put the physio off till you feel more like it.

We did lots of signing at the solicitors for our wills and POA and now have to get other signatures, then take the papers back. The young Asian lady solicitor partner we have dealt with before pointed to a huge pile of dirty cardboard boxes with dingy papers hanging over the edges that looked as if they had been in a loft for years and said a house clearance firm had brought them for her to go through after someone had died. I took one look and said we were clearing our clutter after seeing what MIL and FIL had left for us to go through. She laughed and said she'd told her dad he needs to do it too. At least our paperwork is all in one place. I was asking how they go on with people doing things online now as I print stuff off but not everyone does. She said it was going to be really difficult in the future as without someone's passwords you couldn't see their digital accounts/savings.

Afterwards we carried on to the garden centre, which didn't have such good displays as in previous years and was packed, as was the carpark so OH dropped me near the door. We were going to eat there and the menu looked good, but again it was packed and no tables free. I did get some nice Christmas cards, including OH's so that was good and I got a nice jigsaw of springer Spaniels to do over Christmas. On the way back we called at another garden centre to eat as it's one that does lovely jacket potatoes and I had a tuna one. OH had a crusty baguette platter with chicken and bacon and the salad that comes with both is always nice and fresh.

Sounds like you have had loads of rain Mel, the chickens will be paddling again! The male Pheasants are such beautiful birds, you are lucky to have them near you. I have noticed a couple with silvery feathers on their backs and tails locally this year. It must be another variety to the usual ones but very pretty. I hope you are doing better with your cones than I am with my beading! I keep going wrong so need to start from scratch again. :-S Fancy you finding the money! That was a nice and welcome surprise!

Gill you made me smile at the thought of your room with a view of the Portaloo!! Let's hope they get on with the bathroom and get a new toilet fitted soon. No digger today and the concrete's done so things are moving on. Next it will be concrete mixers going for the brickwork I expect.

I think my Christmas present came while we were out as OH popped next door and came back with a parcel........it must be my camera! :-)

Jane

Jane Report 28 Nov 2018 19:22

Ann I think we need to do something about POA .Our Will has been done for a long time and probably needs updating now.
So more pans gone :-D That is good :-D That lady has a good bargain .

I hope your Xmas present will be hidden away (even though you know what it is :-D)
I know what I am having. New Kindle and Perfume. But I wont see anything until Xmas day.
I bought a jigsaw of Garden Birds and another called the 70's Shopping Basket .I bet the Springer Spaniel one you have will be a lovely one.
Mandy I always get a Nordman Tree . I need to think when to get ours. James was trying to work out when he will be here to go with me as it is a tradition . Just the 2 of us buying the tree.

I hope the Portaloo doesn't have the door facing you Gill....You know what men are like and not shutting the door :-D :-D :-S

O Mandy I did'nt see that program bu tknow the family as they have been on the telly before. The wife cooks lots of cakes and does tea for passing walkers. They are a great family and I saw a program where one of the children took their lamb in a show. Robson Green went a couple of years running when he did his Yorkshire programs.

Did have a go at my cones later and we had hot dogs for dinner so not much cooking and quick to get as I do them in the micro with the onions underneath. It also made a nice space in the freezer with getting the long rolls out of the way. I also started a cone Angel and just have her hair to put on and perhaps a halo and some arms????? don't know so will see what they look like but just holding them up to her.

Ann hope you conquered the beading in the end. Is'nt it annoying when you can't get it right and have to start all over again. Done that been there.

I am now going in the hsower and then I shall have a go at the new series Death and Nightingales and perhaps Our Yorkshire Farm.

Annx Report 28 Nov 2018 22:21

Yes it will be hidden away till Christmas, as will the jigsaw and anything else he gets Jane! Even when you know what you are getting it's good to wait to open things on the day isn't it. I want the big cardboard box it came in though.......to pack some of the saucepans! :-D Yes the lady has got a bargain as some were unused, but I got some spending money too and they won't be cluttering the place up any more. Your jigsaws sound like ones I would like too.

It's a bit of a weight off our minds sorting this POA business out as with no children there is no-one to look out for us really if one was left and went a bit do-lalley or couldn't cope. Once it's finalised, we'll give copies to our doctor and bank, then if the last one of us starts to be a cause for concern, they can just notify the solicitor who would then come and sort things out and take over, making the best arrangements for us. I liked how she said they made regular visits to make sure you were happy if you were in a home. She said if we needed it, they would help either of us with arrangements for the funeral of the other as well. Hopefully these things won't be needed for many years or not at all and once it's done we can forget about it. It's just good to know it's in place.

On that cheery note I'd better get to bed and hope I sleep better tonight. OH went ages ago as he was shattered and had a headache. He's looking in the garage for me tomorrow as I know there is a set of guess what...........cream enamel saucepans with a red flower pattern on them!!! :-D They are another set, unused from MIL many years ago and if people are buying with cooking the Christmas Lunch in mind, they might sell as well.......I'm on a roll!

Gillx Report 29 Nov 2018 08:59

Morning all

Fine rain and windy weather today

Well, the fence in the front finally got broke......surprise, surprise.

The porta loo blown over in the wind and landed on the fence and broke the top bit. We ask the workman this morning to move the loo to the other side of the property so he moved it with the help of OH as he was on his own. The boss turned up a few minutes later and temporarily fixed the fence, saying he would replace it. He also said very casually that the fence was being replaced with something more private. I did explain if they put a blocked in fence there the wind would blow it down, but he said he was doing it anyway on their side, which is up to them. They are going to leave our fence in place on our side so it's going to look really silly when it's done. I've got visions of them replacing the fence all the way down to the bottom of the garden and taking the hedge out that we've attached our screening to, so that'll be our garden front and back ruined and we've worked so hard making it nice over the past two years. The boss only looks in his 20's or maybe early 30's. We did manage to have a look around the bungalow they have taken almost everything out including walls and ceilings and all the plaster off the walls it looks awful, but from what they were saying it's going to look good when it's all finished, so it should for £80k

I've not read any post yet as I haven't slept all night thinking the loo was going to be blown over again. We put the wheelie bin and a bag of sand next to it and luckily it stayed put. I hope it doesn't get blown over onto our other neighbours hedge on the other side of the bungalow now. I'd feel terrible if that happened. Luckily the loo didn't move any further than the fence so didn't hit the car. OH moved the car down the drive a bit further out of the way......this was all at 2am this morning.

Frank

Frank Report 29 Nov 2018 11:49

Good morning all,

I got up for the loo at 5.00 am and stayed up. Made a COT and read my book. Ros came out at 7.30 had a COT and started to feel sick, so went back to bed, she has just come out 11.20 am and feeling much better.

Loo falling on the fence is not good Gill. I think you should have your fence replaced or repaired, and send the builders the bill. That way you will get what you want, and not his choice.

It was hammering down with rain when I got up, and the wind is really GALE FORCE. our palm tree in the front garden is nearly bent in half. Looking out there, I think it's here for the day.

We haven't had a real tree for many years. We bought a very expensive artificial one yeats ago. It comes in branches, that fit into th trunk, all numbered so you know where they go. Madam is talking about replacing it, as it's getting old. LIKE ME !!!

You have been busy Ann sorting out all your plans for your and Gs future. I suppose w are lucky, both the boys will look after everything, as and when.

Yes Mel, I have seen that Yorkshire family before, most interesting, the way the children were bought up. I must try to see the latest one on "CATCH UP" when Ros is out. What side was it on ???

For as long as I have known you Jane, you and James always have picked your Christmas Tree. (FAMILY TRADITION) lol lol What size do you buy ??

My Teestostron (sp) injection is as think as wallpaper paste, and has to go in a syringe Ahhhhh Got a sore bum, MUM.!!!!

Lamb steaks or shin of beef tonight, I have both out of the freezer, so the other one will do for tomorrow.

I am going to try sending my Family Tree to my Nephew on line. I bet I make a hash of it. Will let you know.

Gillx

Gillx Report 29 Nov 2018 14:17

Not long got back from the shops, I've bought most of my frozen food for Christmas so that's in the freezer ready for the big day. While I was out I had a quick look in a charity shop and found the most beautiful Christmas tree that is the perfect size for the area we want to put it. The big snow one I was going to put there wouldn't fit properly with the new sofa being in the way so that had to come down and put back up in the loft. This tree only cost me £5......what a bargain and it's really bushy. It took a while to put up as each branch is separate but it's done now. So OH and Sandra are getting the lights and decorations back out of the loft, plus Sandra's pink tree for her bedroom then we can spend the rest of the day decorating them both.

OH spoke to the new neighbour before, he was locking the car and the neighbour turned up. OH said he's a lovely fella and he couldn't apologise enough when he told him about the fence saying he would make sure it was fixed properly. OH also mention the hedge at the back and the screening we have attached to it. The fella assured us he wouldn't be taking the hedge down as he likes it and as far as anything being done around the boundaries he would discuss it with us first. I just hope he keeps to his word.

I'm not feeling to good at the moment I've got a banging headache, but I think it's because I haven't slept properly for two nights. I'm going to keep myself busy today with Christmas arrangements while it's reasonably quiet next door. There's only one man there (OH's friend) although OH think someone else has turned up as well now, but they are working in doors so hopefully no more damage to our property can be done from there, so I'm going to try and ignore them and get on with Christmas with OH and Sandra. When we were at the charity shop they were giving away Christmas CD's so I got one and so did Sandra. She has put her's on and said it's really good, so I can hear Christmas music now coming from her room, it sounds really nice.

I still haven't caught up with the post, so I'll catch up later when I'm finished with the tree.

Afternoon Everyone,

A windy and wet night and now it's just windy! I slept really well though and was surprised the wind didn't wake me. I wondered how much worse it was at Mel's!

Is that the prog where the children have answered the door on their Shetland Pony? Or is that The Yorkshire Shepherdess? I must look it up and see if I can record it. OH and I used to holiday in the Yorkshire dales for quite a few years and loved the countryside.

Oh dear Gill, what a shame your fence was broken and after all you said to them about damaging things as well. Still the new neighbour sounds very considerate so your hard work should be safe!

Frank if either of a couple develops dementia, then without a POA the bank won't release their money to anyone else and property can't be sold if they have a stake in it, and which might be necessary to pay care home fees. If this is left till the time of the crisis, the application to the Court can be expensive and take months! That's why we thought we should get it done now. If MIL and FIL hadn't done theirs long before FIL's dementia problems, we would have had the added financial headaches of two funerals to pay for, their bills to pay and the not inconsiderable care home fees, until their monies were released. We just want to make things easy for each other.

This has reminded me of the time at work when I visited an elderly lady who was allegedly having difficulty with her money. Her husband explained what he had noticed and then left the room when the doorbell rang. Once he was out of the room the lady started to tell me almost the same difficulties and problems........only about her husband! I came away not sure who had a problem or whether it was both of them.

I still haven't spent my Wyvale vouchers and there's only 1 more day to use them so that's where I'm off to now. I think I'll get some bird food with them. :-) I also want a frame from the Range as I have a craft idea I want to try!

Bunnyboo

Bunnyboo Report 29 Nov 2018 17:40

Forgive me for butting in, but Frank having a POA is really important. We were made aware of this, and our Solicitor confirmed it when we had a friend whose husband had a devastating stroke that completely incapacitated him both mentally as well as physically . Unfortunately he and his wife didn't have a POA between them, assuming that because they were married they could act for each other. They couldn't and friend had to go through the court to get legal permission to operate on her her husbands financial behalf. It took months, was very expensive and extremely stressful. No one can act for another person however closely they are related without a POA or court permission, so it is terribly important. We have a POA between us,so that either one can act for the other, with our two children included in case we both become too ill to manage our affairs responsibly.
