Afternoon,

We had a lie in too Mel and I feel quite refreshed now.

The promised sun is peeping through at last so I shall soon nip out for the papers and take my new camera for a try out. I think I have read enough of the instructions to take some sort of a photo now! lol

Sorry David, I'm afraid I don't know enough to know if you get my drift.

OH made me laugh this morning. He was getting ready for footie and couldn't do his trousers up!!!! LOL. He had to go and find some more generous ones to put on. His face was a picture! At last he is now serious about losing some weight, so hopefully won't be helping derail my efforts in the New Year. :-D

I hope the poorly ones are feeling better this morning.

BBL.

Afternoon from Coughdrop :-D.. Yes still coughing :-S,but I do feel it might be a bit easier. Its the night time that seems the worst.

I hope you can get things sorted david. It must be very frustrating.

The sun is peeping through here too now and it is really very mild.Thomas was out all night last night. That is the first time he has done that in a long time.I did get up just before 1am when I had a coughing fit and came down to see if he was outside but there was no sign.He was fast asleep in the summerhouse though when we got up.

Oh dear poor OH Ann.He cant have put that much extra weight on just from Xmas !!!.

Well H&G have left Yala and are now up in the hills at a place called ELLA. It looks amazing. Have a google for Ella Sri Lanka and you will see what I mean. I think they plan to walk a couple of the trails while they are there. I dont know how long they are stopping there before moving on again. They are certainly getting around .

I feel I should be doing things but lack of motivation is holding me back.Plus lack of energy.(any excuse eh! :-D)

What are you making at Beading now Ann? I can't remember if you have said.

Gill , Sandra must have been so pleased with herself cooking the Xmas Turkey :-D :-D.Did she do the other bits too? Maybe you could get her to do one meal a week (with a litle help from you). I reckon she would enjoy that ,plus it would boost her confidence in the kitchen :-D. Do you ever have Pasta and Sauce? That would be a nice easy thing for her to try.

I never did cooking with my Mum. Mainly because I was just not interested whereas Janice was always in the kitchen with her baking this that and the other.Janice has always loved cooking but the 2 things she has never been good at at Yorkshire Puddings and Meringues.. Funny that as those were the 2 things I was best at :-D :-D. Not that I have made meringues now for years.

I watched Billy Connelly last night. Such a funny man . All the old stuff was just so good. What a character !!. It is sad he can no longer do the things he used to because of his Parkinsons.

We had such a lovely Thank you card this morning from our lady postie Claire for the Tip we gave her. Sadly she is moving on to a new patch in the new year so we shalln't see her again. The same thing happened last year with Thea .

Ann I am going to be sending you a PM

Ha! David got no Zubes Jakemans thoat and cough sweets though and a pot of Vicks :-D Still barking :-S It would be lovely if we all begin 2019 with a clean bill of health and get shot of all these horrible nasty Viruses .

Do Zubes still exist? I am trying to think of some other throat sweets but the name escapes me. They were my favourite and quite addictive . Grey oblong shaped ones in a pack like Hacks. Remember Hacks? :-D

Afternoon all,

Nice and sunny here today with a bit of a breeze so i hung the bedding out only for the line to break ,luckily the washing was getting dry so it didn't pick up any muck ,it had to be a whites wash !!!!!!

Hi everyone

It's been very mild again here today, I hope it's the same tomorrow as I have to break some concrete out from in between the flags so we can put the electric wire in the ground for the water feature. OH has just nipped to the neighbour to borrow his bolster hammer and chisel, I asked him to be back before it went dark so I could of done the job today but he must be having a good chat as he's not back yet, so that job will be done tomorrow now.

The water feature is called simmering falls Ann, it's just one you fill with water and plug in, the water then goes around and around. I was told if I wanted to put it over a pond then to fill it more and it will come over the bottom bit. I should think I'd have to put the pump in the pond though, but for now it's staying inside the feature as I don't have a pond. It doesn't look very nice on it's own so I will be surrounding it with lots of plants so you just see the water fall on the top. I did smile when you said your OH had put on weight and Mandy's comment on swapping his trousers for a smaller size to encourage him to lose weight. That would of been a good idea wouldn't it? Hope you both lose the weight you want over the next few weeks, months. Good luck.

My mum bought me a size 10 jumper for Christmas and was worried it wouldn't fit, but it's a lovely fit and just what I needed as my other black jumper was getting very tatty looking.

It sounds like H and G are having a great time going here and there Jane, lots of photo's to see when they get back. When are they due home?
Talking about Vick, I know it sounds daft but if you put some on the soles of your feet it stops you coughing and help with your breathing. I heard about it somewhere and tried it once and it worked. When Sandra had a bad cough she tried it to and said she had a good nights sleep, so it might be worth a try. <3 Yes Sandra does the odd bits of cooking but doesn't have a lot of confidence, she doesn't dish up though so must have a bit of a mental block about that part. I'm sure with a bit of encouragement she'll dish up one day, but for now she'll at least trying some things but I do need to be with her otherwise she gets a bit panicky. The Christmas dinner was a great success and very tasty.

I've woken up with a bit of a sore throat today and have just slept for 3 hours which has made me feel a bit better. OH went to see the doctor yesterday and he has given him some stronger Antibiotics, he only has to take two each day so hopefully they'll work and at least he doesn't have to get up to early to take his first one so is having a bit more sleep now, although he's still coughing at night. He was really bad on Boxing Day and said he's never felt that bad in his life, hopefully the Antibiotics will do the job and he'll be better soon.

I've had a message with some information on more Australian relatives to add to the others I put on my tree before Christmas, so I'm getting there. The only problem is I don't seem to have a lot of time to update my tree. With a bit of luck when the water feature goes in I'll have more time to get on with it.

The skip was taken away from next door yesterday so I should imagine all the noise will start again soon. Hopefully it won't take them long to finish the job and the new neighbours will be able to move in, in February like they planned.

OH's just come back and told me the neighbour he's been to see has another dog, a springier spaniel (chocolate brown) and is such a lovely dog, Sandra will be pleased and no doubt want to go and see him. He's called Flynn. We did wonder why the name Flynn was on the Christmas card. OH said he's sits when asked and even gave him his paw. He's been passed around lately as his old own is dying so is a bit nervous at going out, he was kept in a conservatory, but I'm sure in time he'll gain confidence and be okay. He gets on really well with Penny their other dog and is 3 years old, one year younger than Penny. I'm looking forward to seeing him soon as I love though type of dogs.

They used to say 'Zubes for your Tubes' as well. Oh Mandy I can still taste those Fishermen's friends, they were so bitter and nasty, despite being so tiny!! lol Wasn't there something similar called 'Imps' as well? I can remember having Tunes to 'help you breathe more easily'. I always think of the chap I worked with years ago that always carried cough sweets and said that he always sucked one dealing with the public at the counter as they may kill off their bugs before they got to his throat!!

I think with OH's cataracts being done and then problems with the tears, we both slid down the slippery slope this year and started calling in places for coffee and cake to cheer ourselves up while we were out and having goodies to nibble at some evenings. OH's belt has needed loosening a couple of times year and his shirts have developed those 'peep holes' at the front when he sits down, so it hasn't all happened at Christmas, especially as we bought less things to eat this time. LOL. We don't walk as much either because I can't. I know I am heavier too and I have my annual glucose test in March so we both need to do something now the Christmas feasting is nearly over!! :-S I love that idea of getting out smaller trousers Mandy! LOL> :-D

I'm in the middle of a 'Queen of the Nile' necklace Jane. It's in nice different metallic shades and I'll send a pic when it's done. It should have been quick to do, but some of the smaller beads I've used need a good poke to clear them before the needle will go through properly.

I just looked at that place in Sri Lanka and the scenery is lovely. I would like a ride on that little train with the funny engine! It's a great idea to have travelled to other places, they have seen so much more that way. :-) OH's mother's cousin's son and wife were in Sri Lanka when the Tsunami struck a few years ago, but they had travelled inland that day luckily.

It is a shame about Billy Connelly.

No PM yet Jane?

Gill, the water feature should look pretty when you have put plants around it like you describe. Your poor OH must have felt dreadful, no wonder he needs the stronger antibiotics. Sandra always sounds so willing to help with things and it's really good for her to learn some of the cooking and gain more confidence with it. Practice makes perfect doesn't it!

Jane

Jane Report 29 Dec 2018 18:54

IMPS :-D I loved them. They were slightly liquorice tasting. I think they came in little tin box.

Your Water feature is going to look so lovely Gill.I always think those features can be so relaxing to just sit and watch and hear the trickling of the water.

I hope H*G get to go on that train Ann over that wonderful nine arched bridge.Although it could well feel a bit scary. :-S

Victory Vs were my favourite Mandy :-D :-D.. I am getting the urge now to find some :-D I seem to remember alway keeping some in my car many years ago. I now keep Trebor Extra Strong Mints :-)

I have a feeling Chris might be coming down now with the lurgy. Sneezing coughing and spluttering going on :-S :-S I haven't taken down the tree yet. I am so reluctant to do it as it hasn't been up that long and cost £40!! It looks nice too :-D

Dinner just about ready. Frank must be home soon as I am sure he said he would be back home before New Year.

Oh dear Jane, if you are Coughdrop and Chris has started started sneezing, I hope he isn't going to be Dewdrop. :-0 :-S I bet you'll be glad when you start getting some better sleep.

Did you not send a PM in the end?

I'm the same Mel. I had good intentions today as well!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Dec 2018 19:16

Mum liked Imps and they were liquorice. Later they came in tiny black plastic boxes. I used to get them to add to her Christmas cracker. We always put extras in our crackers. This year oh had a tiny nail puller in his I got from Amazon.

Talking about Fishermans Friends they make them in all different flavours now.

Sandra did do well cooking the dinner on Christmas day, what a clever girl she is getting to be. First chicken now turkey, will it be goose next?

We have the usual steak tonight and I am just about to put it all on otherwise we will be eating too late.

Jane Report 29 Dec 2018 21:11

Sorry Ann, I forgot the PM . Will do tomorrow . Message from Fitz. I have just had a nice bath and am about to drop into bed hopefully for lots of zzzzs

Gillx

Gillx Report 29 Dec 2018 21:34

Coughdrop and Dewdrop lol :-D :-D :-D I'm still smiling at that comment Ann ;-) Joking aside I hope you both feel better soon Jane. I've never heard of IMPS, I remember Fisherman's Friends but found they burnt my tongue and I didn't really like the taste either.

I sometimes have days like you Mel where I don't do much but feel really tired. Yes Sandra's doing well with her chicken and turkey, not sure about a goose though, it's something we've never had. I might have a go at teaching her how to cook a roast lamb, she likes that and it isn't to hard to do.

I've finally had a relaxing day today but will be busy again over the next few days getting the water feature in. I'm really looking forward to it. If you Google Simmering falls there is a picture, but like I said it doesn't look very pretty on it's own, so hopefully lots of grasses and the like put around it should soften the edges and hide them so we just see the water fall bit at the top. That's the plan anyway.

We've just watched San Andreas it was a brilliant film, I recorded it ages ago but we've been busy with other things so hadn't got around to watching it. We're now going to watch Jaws 3. It makes a change from Christmas films which we've been watching on and off since October.

Morning all,

It is do dark and miserable this morning I really don't know why I have got up. There's that mizzle in the air that gets everywhere and make you all wet without you realalizing it.

I am going to clean the girls out today, banties first. Its also big breakfast day.

I wonder if Frank is home yet? He did say they were'nt staying for the new year. Hope they both had a good Christmas.

Em's MIL had a fall on Christmas day and banged her head and broke two ribs and her collar bone and has been unconscious since. She has a bleed on her brain but she has started to move her hands although she has'nt opened her eyes yet. They think she fell over the washing up machine door but it could have been a stroke. She banged her head on the hard tiled floor.

Jane Report 30 Dec 2018 13:43

Afternoon All
After a lovely bright and sunny morning it has turned cloudy and dark now. I did do the Vicks on my feet last night and have to say I had a much better night.Whether it was the Vicks or just me getting better I dont know ,but I might just do it again tonight.

Chris is now in bed :-S. He wasn't feeling great last night and this morning he got up to make the tea and went straight back to bed .I nipped to Tesco to get Day and Night Nurse tablets but they had sold out of them so I got him the Benylin ones.I woke him up when I got back so he could get the first tablet down.He took it but probably won't remember .

Well the place where H&G were yesterday (ELLA ) was not for them. The only good thing was the view from their room.Hannah said it was so noisy and a bit like a construction site ,so she got searching and has found the most lovely place just outside from Ella. It is a very small complex of just 5 rooms on a Tea Plantation. She managed ot get the last room. Poor Gareth had the job of booking the accomodation in Ella and was in the doghouse for fudging it.Hannah says she has now given him a lesson is researching places to stay LOL Mrs Bossy Britches :-D She did well finding this place though. They are there until the morning on New Years day and then they have booked the train to go to Colombo .its an 8 hour journey and supposed to be an amazing journey. They got first class tickets so hopefully there might just be a decent loo on the train :-D :-D. I know in second class it would just be the hole in the floor and not a pleasant experience. I might just remind her to take some toilet paper :-D

I am sure Frank might just be home today as it being New Years Eve tomorrow and they were definately going to be home . But if his computer is still not back with him from being repaired we still might not hear anything just yet.

I have another small Gammon in the oven .I was trying to think what Chris might fancy tonight.I can't see it being a big meal so a bit of ham and maybe an Egg will do. If he wants I can do some of my nice Sauté Potatoes.

Oh Mel Em must be so worried about her Mum in law !! . It does sound pretty bad from what you say. Is she in Barnstaple or Exeter Hospital? Hopefully not as far away as Derriford in Plymouth .
