I'm glad you are starting to feel a bit better Anne. I expect the tiredness will take a while to go but at least you sound as if you are on the mend. Poor Ruby must feel less sore now the cyst has been lanced, but you made me smile with the image in my mind of her wearing your old frillies! Ít's a good idea if she doesn't pull them off though.

Morning all

I didn't see the New Year in, in the end. OH and I couldn't keep our eyes open so we went to bed around 10.30pm Sandra was okay with it and said she watched all the fireworks going off at midnight. We didn't hear a thing, so must of been in a deep sleep. I did feel bad about not staying up but I had a headache with fighting sleep and didn't want to bring the new year in with a migraine. We have wished Sandra a happy new year this morning and we said it before we went to bed as well. She was telling us both about all the fireworks she saw and how some of the neighbours were in the street watching them, so she's happy and not upset at us going to bed early.

Sorry to hear about poor Ruby Anne, hope the knickers worked and she's left it alone to heal. Hopefully the meds will work quickly and she'll be back to her normal self in no time.

Mum's coming around soon so she'll see the new water feature. I'm so glad it came yesterday and not today as it's raining, that fine rain that soaks you through.

OH rang his mum this morning and was told his uncle only has 6 months to live. He was diagnosed with Cancer almost 6 years ago and was told then he'd only live for a further 2 years so to get to 6 years was a surprise to everyone including him. As you can imagine OH is upset, but he said he was expecting it. It's OH's mum's brother. So not a good start to the new year.

Morning all,

Happy new Year to Ann in Glos.

I watched the fireworks on the tv this morning and there were hundreds and hundreds of people in london. The display went off for over 20 mins so I was getting a bit bored in the end. The I watched Madness on the telly.

Well you have that fine rain today Gill which we have had all last week except for the last day of the year when it was just miserable. Today we have some well earned sunshine which makes a nice change.

I keep meaning to tell you that our snowdrops are out in the orchard. Not all of them but some here and there. They were showing before Christmas.

Gillx Report 1 Jan 2019 11:36

It's stopped raining now Mel and the sun has come out.

How lovely to see snowdrops already. A lot of plants are in flower in my garden that shouldn't be this time of year, it's lovely to see.

Mum's just arrived so I'll see you all later.

Happy New Year to you all :-D.. I just can't believe it is 2019 already. Both Chris and I were in our beds so early. I slept solidly until 2.30 when I woke with a right coughing choking thing. One when you cant catch your breath and you think you are going ot be sick. Of course that woke Thomas so I came down to let him out. Havnt seen him since.

Oh dear poor Ruby. Did the pants work Anne? I hope she isn't in too much pain and discomfort . Anywhere else would be better than having the cyst on her bottle .

I must have a look and see if our Snowdrops are peeping through. I know last year they were really early.
I am glad Sandra enjoyed seeing the fireworks Gill even though you were tucked up in bed :-D I did hear a lot going off around here at midnight but didn't bother getting up to have a look out the window.
Sorry to hear about OH's Uncle Gill. Not the best news to begin the New Year.

I had to go and get more tissues and Day and Night stuff for Chris this morning. Tesco was so quiet !!. Maybe people were still in bed after celebrating last night !

Jess and the Tux........ Yes Jess is at the end of one of the pics .But it was so cold and windy and she was right where the wind was blowing around the corner. Even so I was very disappointed with her as she made no efffort to look nice at all. I know she was actually not well that day but even so she could have at least put some makeup on and earrings. I haven't said anything to James ,but I am sure he knows that I would have been cross. One of the pics of Jess made her look like Michael Jackson !!!!!
That is my gripe over about her. :-D

I am actually doing a proper meal tonight. Just an easy Tray bake Chicken thing with rice. We have had Ham and Eggs (with chips) the last 2 days as that was just the easiest thing to do . James will be home this afternoon so I thought I had better make a little bit of an effort :-). We haven't seen him since Xmas Eve.I think he and Jess were in London last night so he will no doubt look like death warmed up by the time he gets home.
Time for a bit of lunch now.

Jane I thought they may have been Jess on the end in the group photo but did'nt think it looked at all like her so now I know why. I did spot James at the back though.

We are just about to have some nice soup and hot rolls so see you later.

Been painting wands. Our sunshine has gone and its now dull and dreary.........

I bet the new water feature is looking good now after Gill's hard work with putting her plants around it. I do wish someone could teach her how to put the pics from Sandra's camera on her pc so she could send us some.

There was a shop near us used to sell broken biscuits out the bottom of the tin, wouldn't give anything away or throw anything away.....tight Rs

I recall my Mother whose birthday it is today sending me to Lowery's egg factory in Brinkburn Street, for a dozen broken eggs. Money was tight back then, sometimes it still is.

Afternoon All,

Is it pinch punch and all that too?

I ended up doing a few inches of my knitting in the night as I didn't get off to sleep till around 4.30am. So we weren't up till gone 10.30am. We were greeted warmly as the first New Year customers at the carvery down the road at 11.30am. They had advertised an elaborate New Year menu and tables had been pulled together for groups, but we suspect some had cancelled as they were short of chefs and were only able to do the carvery. It meant it was really quiet and peaceful. :-)

We've had a lazy day and OH amazed me by saying he wasn't going to footie and was watching some on the telly! It must be a first for New Year's Day. He beat me again at Scrabble. I've never lost so many games when we've played before!

Gill, it is a pity you can't download your photos. Does your camera use a picture card? I find it easiest to do it from the card if you have. You just pop it into a reader and plug it into a port on your computer. Your garden must be completely transformed now with the latest addition in place. It was good Sandra was able to watch the fireworks. I'm afraid I wasn't even tempted to look outside this year, I was too cosy in bed.

I hope Mandy was able to enjoy lunch with the family today. I expect Max was doing his bit keeping the children entertained! ;-)

David I used to buy trays of cracked eggs from the farm when I was first married. We didn't have much money then, so I used to use some of them to have a good baking session and make several cakes, cut them into quarters and freeze them. I wonder what they do with them nowadays? We used to get the cardboard boxes of broken biscuits too as we had the Frears and Blacks factory in the city.

When I was small you could buy a 1d bar of Cadbury's chocolate. It was wrapped in purple foil. You could also get a tuppenny one.

Do they still do Barley Sugar Sticks?

Annx

Annx Report 1 Jan 2019 23:58

I remember buying the penny chews. They were in long narrow strips and the spearmint one was pale green. There was banana flavour, toffee and chocolate flavour toffee that I can remember. The peanut sweets were lovely and I liked the peardrops and chocolate limes too. We would spend ages deciding what to get with our pennies.

So we could afford extra swimming sessions at the swimming baths or go to the Saturday morning cinema both of which were less than a quarter of a mile away, my friend and I would look out for empty pop bottles that people would leave or throw away and return them to get the deposit.
