On a Saturday morning I used to go to the ABC Minors at the cinema on Northumberland Road. It was usually a cartoon, a serial, and a BS film, but we enjoyed it for 6d Even got an orange on your birthday and if you were really lucky an ABC minors badge. 65 or so years ago <3 <3

I also went to ABC minors before the films there would be a sing song as the cinema had an organ which would rise up from the ground.
I remember buying liquorice roots as they weren't on ration and if we could get away with not paying our bus fare used to get a bag of plums for 2p.

Morning Anne, david and all,
Iv'e just got up, well about 10 mins ago and I have a rotton stiff neck. Maybe I plumped my pillows up too much yesterday. I did think about it when I did it. I shan't be doing it today I can tell you. I may just chuck one pillow out altogether. Or it could have been the consentration of gilding the wands yesterday as I did three of them all at once one after the other.
Anyway I should go shopping today. Will have to see how the neck is in a little while. Still sneezing and blowing my nose.
We have sunshine today at the moment. I wonder how long it will last today?

Afternoon All,
We haven't had any sun today and it has turned much colder this afternoon.
I was the same as you this morning Mel and not up till around 11.00am! We intended to go to the M&S sale down the main road and pop into W H Smith to look for a new filofax for OH, but were too late to beat the crowds so will try again tomorrow.
I've cancelled my knee injection tomorrow. I wanted it to help me till my appointment for assessment at the hospital this month, but it has taken so long to come through, the worst knee has slowly improved a little, and I might as well wait the other couple of weeks. I thought it might affect the assessment and if the worst comes to the worst and I needed surgery, I have read recently that some surgeons are very anti you having injections because bacteria can be introduced into the joint and cause infection at later surgery. I've also tried to get an appointment at a clinic the doctor has referred me to and rang today as instructed because I hadn't heard. It seems that I may have a 3-4 month wait yet!
Whilst on the subject of hospitals my sister spent Christmas in hospital and is thoroughly fed up now. She has infection in both legs now which doesn't sound good at all and as if it is spreading despite treatment.
I see you are still sneezing Mel and now you have a stiff neck! We have trouble with our pillows, getting them just the right height isn't easy. OH chunters and mutters at his and I tell him 'That's enough of your pillow talk!!'
How is Ruby now Anne and did she keep her knickers on ok? :-)

Evening All Well it is full blown colds here now :-S. The 2 big boxes of tissues I bought yesterday have all been used.Chris is doing the man thing with a lot of huffing and puffing and groaning. I was thinking I have not been well since about 26th November after the hen do !!. Ann,I am sorry to hear about your Sister. Being in hospital over Christmas must have been miserable for her. I wonder why this infection is still getting worse in her legs.It must be a dreadful worry.
You say you have cancelled your injection .I think that is a good idea especially if the knee has improved a bit. Any injection into the joint will always have a risk with causing infection. That is why I am not keen to have one in my hip. I have my appointment on the 9th with the Orthopedic Consultant . But like you my hip seems to have been so much better these last few weeks. It has almost been pain free ,just the lack of flexability and a dull ache. Mind you it could quite easily change at any time.
We have changed the bedding today on the 2 beds. My word it was exhausting !!. Still one more duvet cover to go back on.At least everything is all nice and fresh again.
I spoke to one of my B Brothers yesterday and we have finally arranged a date to meet up again. We will meet up at St Pancras on Feb 2nd and go for a lunch somewhere nearby. I havent seen him for a few years now so I am really looking forward to seeing him again. We get on really well and always have a good laugh .
Hannah and Gareth are in their last place now and it looks like a little Oasis just on the outskirts of Colombo.I will send more pics.
I suppose I had better think about getting dinner in,although I have no appetite at all. Its Smoked Haddock in a Cheese sauce .We arent having potatoes but lots of veg that need using up including the sprouts from the big stalk. It is going to be yet another very early night tonight.
How is Ruby's 'problem' today Anne?
Was it today Mandy was having all the family ? Or Yesterday? I have lost track totally on what day it is. I must have asked Chris 3 times today as to what day it is. :-S

Back from shopping and its all put away. I think I did well because I did'nt go last week. I had stacks of cider put away for oh and ciggies and plenty of food so did'nt need anything extra. I even got through on the milk but did buy 4 pints in the shop when I went for the paper.
Thats a shame your sister was in hospital for Christmas Ann but at least she had lots of company and I think they make it nice for those patients that are in there over Christmas. My mum was in hospital near Christmas one year and helped with all the decorations and made friends with a girl who would'nt eat. I think she was quite sad to leave her behind.
Hope Ruby managed to keep her draws on and is feeling better today with her sore botty.
Jane don't you have the date on your laptop? I do on the pc and if you put the cursor on it it tells you which day it is.
Its our bin day tomorrow and I hope oh remembers. I shall have to give him a reminder.
Did I tell you that I found the trouble iwth my tiny lights? I had put rechargable batteries in them and they won't work on those. What a silly idea. I had to buy real batteries and now they all work fine. Oh bought me another lot of rechargable ones for Christmas too as I needed them for the lights!!!! Its been so dark lately my solar lights hav'nt been on for long in the night and its so dark here when you get up for the loo that I have a set on in the bathroom and in the hall.
Ann have you tried a heated corn bag on your knees at night? I have been using one all winter and my knees have been much better. I put my hedgehog one between my knees and I only really lay on my right side all night.
Right I am going to see if those pics have come through from Jane now.

O I meant to say it has turned really really cold here tonight. There is not really any breeze as such but the air is moving and it makes your jeans freezing against your legs. There is no frost out there yet but I think there may be a bit later on.

Evening all, We had a nice day with the family yesterday ,Max got a bit boisterous and knocked into Lewis ,he was so funny he said " i'm not crying so i must be ok " LOL
We've seen a little sun today it was so bright as we were driving to the park and ride ,Colin had his appointment at the hospital for his ears to be sucked out ,we were in and out in no time he went in at twenty past two and we were back on the bus for twenty to three ,i was glad to get back in the warm as it seemed to turn really chilly out ,we lit the fire and had a nice hot cuppa ,it didn't seem that warm in the hospital when i sat there which is most unusual as it's usually so hot in there .
You were late up this morning Ann you must have needed it ,are you still having bad nights ? Oh goodness your poor sister with her bad legs ,i was going to ask you how she was getting on , fingers crossed some thing can be done for her so she can come home .
Poor Mel with a stiff neck :-( i find that if i prop myself up on an extra pillow i wake with stiff shoulders ,i did that the other night when i was all stuffed up ,i could hardly move when i woke up . First donkey day this year Mel :-D We need to get a few bits tomorrow but we still have quite a few things to eat up from christmas .
How is Ruby today Anne ? hope she has been a good girl and the knickers have helped and she hasn't needed the collar ,when Max had his op he soon chewed the collar up :-0 i did buy one of those blow up ones but he didn't like that one either so we left it off and he was good he didn't bother with the scar at all.
Oh gawd Jane what a pair :-( your cold has been going on for weeks now ,you must keep Tesco going with all the tissues you keep buying . Lovely photo's of Hannah and Gareth's last place on honeymoon ,the garden looks lovely and the pool too ,i bet they don't want it to end .
My cold didn't seem to come to much i'm a little bit stuffed at times and have a tickly throat but other wise not to bad .
Hope Frank is soon about i'm looking forward to hearing how his Christmas went .

You must be looking forward to feeling well again after all this time Jane and after all the coughing and now full blown colds for you both. I end up using loo rolls for tissues and take paper towel with me if I have to go out. The paper towel looks better than loo roll in public when you pull it out of your handbag! lol. The biggest effect on all the nasty coughs I used to get for weeks on end was starting flu jabs and since then I don't get many coughs or colds and just the odd bad one if I do.
I'm glad you said that about the injection as well. I couldn't have gone on with it as it was, but now it is back to being just a bit worse than the other knee, but at least I can potter around in short bursts without listing like an old Galleon!! lol. I find standing up every 15 minutes when I can helps with the stiffness and saves needing so many painkillers as well, but it is good to have them to fall back on, especially when more walking can't be avoided. I wonder if the weather or air pressure has affected our knees and hip lately?
It will be good to meet up with your B Brother and have a meal and chat together. I had a late Christmas card from an old work colleague today and she wants to meet up. She and I started in the Civil Service within a few weeks of each other in the early 70s and I just can't believe she is aged 80 now!!
Must have a look at your H & G pics now and then go and watch some recordings.

Ann, I have loo roll rather than Kitchen paper in my handbag. It is softer than Kitchen Roll plus always handy if there is no loo paper in public loos. I tend to always have a few sheets of loo paper in my trouser pocket ,just in case :-D I think Chris and I look a bit like Rudolf now with red noses :-S
James and Chris have eaten. I just can't face food so may just have a pot of porridge .Chris had so many sprouts !!! I am glad I wont be in the same bed as him tonight :-D
I loved all the mosaics where H&G are.It all looked so colourful . I have only seen a few pics from the Honeymoon. Gareth has taken probably a couple of thousand pics so we will get to see all when they come to us later this month.

Pleased to hear Frank is safely back home shame he won't be posting for a while.
Ruby didn't get on with wearing the knickers but I suddenly realised although she manages to wash her front bits she is the wrong shape to get to her bottom the only damage she could do would be wipe her bum along the floor which the collar wouldn't have stopped anyway.
Max seems to be enjoying his time spent with the children, Mandy I had to smile about little Lewis's comment bless him.
I to always have toilet roll in my bag along with poo bags for Ruby.
Your poor sister Ann having to spend Christmas in hospital, I hope they can do something for her whlie she is in there.
Been quite busy today went to pick up the scripts took the bottles to the bottle bank then to the Garden Centre and on to the crematorium, got a bargain bucket from Kentucky fried chicken. This afternoon we all spent a couple of hours in the garden getting rid of some weeds, sweeping up the many leaves and getting rid of the annual plants
Sorry your still under the weather Jane this cold seems be lasting much longer than usual for everyone. I expect your looking forward to seeing all the honeymoon photos,
Hope your stiff neck is now better Mel and pleased you managed to get your shopping at least the shops will be quieter now.
Turned really cold now and it's been overcast al day.
Just seen the latest honeymoon photos Jane , they have a lovely selection of places to stay, how did they find them all?

O I was thinking about ringing our Frank to see if he was home. Good to know he is back safe and sound. Did they have a nice Christmas Jane?
When I was going along the road to Morrisons in the bit that is set back where there used to be a gift type shop there was an Ambulance and on a stretcher outside it was a young lad of about 15 or so. Don't know what had happened to him though. He still had his shoes on but was covered in a white blanket with his hat still on too.

Morning Frank and all,
We have a brightish morning here with low clouds and blue patches but not really any sunshine.
One thing I saw yesterday took me back and I did'nt like them much when I was small was Flying Sausers. Those rice paper things with sherbert in the middle. I liked a sherbert Fountain with its liquorice straw and Sherbert Lemon sweets. I liked little Floral Gums like tiny gems and so scented to eat. I wonder if they still make those?

I was very young when I was born. Being the middle one of 4 siblings, I am the only one without a middle name. That never bothered me.
The most important things a child can inherit are fond memories. This I surely did but unfortunately, my memories are ebbing with old age. :-)

Afternoon All,
Another very dull day, although I didn't see what it was like earlier as I had another sleepless night till gone 4.00am. Needless to say we didn't go out to use our half price breakfast coupons or get to the retail park again! Perhaps it was just as well as OH has been visiting the white friend with the trots this morning. Probably all the rich food he's been eating as he has a delicate tum anyway. He's in bed now, but fancied some poached eggs on toast when I said I would be getting me some soon! :-) I've just fetched the papers and a magazine and think I will stay in today and do a bit of clearing up in the study.
I tried to look at Jane's latest pics but for some reason my emails aren't loading at the moment so I will try again later.
When I was out I noticed a few roads had diversion signs and I had to go a different route and one man was spraying yellow paint in places so it looks like more digging up of the roads! I must tell OH as he will need to go a different way to get to some of his schools and allow more time.
Did you see where at a private school parents are spending over £50 on end of term presents for teachers. That would be £1000 worth each term from a class of 20 children. How ridiculous when they are doing what they are paid to do and how can people afford all this expense. When it gets silly like this it looks as if they are trying to buy extra attention and good reports for their children. I think a nice home made thank you card should be enough to show appreciation.
Better get these poached eggs now.........they are from the farm but won't be as nice as those from Mel! :-D
Good to see Frank is home again and will be tapping those 'T's on his keyboard again!

I wonder what had happened to that lad Mel? I hated the flying saucers too, but loved those toffee whirls I've just remembered having in the clear cellophane.
Just seen Jane's pics. Another lovely place to stay with a pool too and it must have looked good at night with all those lights in the trees. It's been great having a bit of insight to what these places are like that I've never been to. :-) I always have some loo paper in my bag as well and sometimes pop paper serviettes I haven't used in my bag as they can be handy in loos with no paper too.
OH seems ok again now and will be watching the match on the telly tonight. He did ask if I minded as he would have watched it in the bedroom otherwise. We played our last game of Scrabble and he beat me again!! I only won 2 out of 6 games this year.
It's supposed to be a good frost around here tonight so I shall take my camera when I join my beading friends in the morning as I might get a shot of the frosty fields on the way.
I bet you are glad your cold came to nothing Mandy and isn't too bad. Fancy Max chewing his plastic collar. He likes to get his gnashers around things the naughty boy! Is his Christmas present still in one piece. :-)
My sister's been in and out of hospital and on intravenous antibiotics the past few months as they have tried to clear the infection. They want to do other treatment but can't do anything until the infection clears.
OH also got a late card this morning from a work colleague who retired early about the same time as he did. Her hubby had a stroke 2 months ago and it's affected his sight and short term memory and they aren't sure if he will work again. Then OH saw an article in our local paper about a member of Warlock, a blues group that played around here for many years, who has just died aged 81. The husband of my old schoolfriend with the New Forest ponies started the group with friends and my friend used to play in it at times too.
I must change my avatar as it has past it's sell by date so to speak!
