Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Jan 2019 18:43

Hi to Dermot. I agree with what you say Dermot.

I see you have changed your avatar Ann. Was that taken on the new camera?

I have done some putting away in my new boxes this morning. I now have one for all my perspex I save for patterns and fairy wings. That is now all out of the uti room. Then I hoovered through the hall kitchen diner and uti room. Then we had lunch, cornish pasties.....Sorry Jane they were delish. :-D :-D

This afternoon I started on a chickens and brocc plat and the chicken is in a cheese sauce. Its one of our favorites but take a bit of time to make. Its made now and awaiting its egg glaze and we are having it with peas and new pots.

No Gill today or yesterday I think. Hope she is ok and just busy.

Now I am just going to clean the little loo before putting the plait in the oven and the pots on.

Evening all,

It's been really cold here today and a bit drizzly at times , we did some shopping and i bought some Christmas paper that was 50p a roll and a box Christmas crackers down to £2-50

That's good that Ruby doesn't need the collar or the knickers ,she's probably healed up a bit now ,have you got to take her back to the vets ?

I wonder what happened to the young lad Mel , i think you can still get Floral Gums i use to like them and they use to stick to your teeth .
You've been busy doing your tidying up ,your chickens and broc plait sounds tasty .

Another bad night then Ann ,how's OH now ?
That's parents trying to out do each other with the end of term presents ,it's all getting out of hand ,DIL use to get a bunch of flowers or some thing like that but now with five of them at school she said she's stopped doing it and some of the other parents have done the same .
Oh no what's been happening with your scrabble games :-( was one of OH's Christmas books a Dictionary :-D :-D
So beading day again tomorrow , what are you working on now ?

The tree has been taken down ,it seems so dull now with out the lights from the tree .
It was so cold when i walked Max ,when we got in he went straight to the fire after i'd dried him off with his towel, he laid down in front of it to warm up.

I think he must have a dictionary on his knee Mandy.....or up his sleeve! LOL. Yes, it's a wonder one of his books wasn't a dictionary, he seems to have books on everything else in the book mountain on his bedside table! He must be feeling ok now thanks judging by the way he keeps going in the kitchen. I've warned him he might regret it with some things he's had his beady eyes on, so he's being sensible! I think I shall be doing more of the Queen of the Nile necklace tomorrow.......I may even finish it!! I'll send a pic if I do! The trouble is, if we start nattering we do less beading!

My new avatar was take with my old camera Mel. It's been so dull and I've mostly had OH with me, so I've only taken a few pics with the new one, one was of the pretty cottage I've sent before, just to get a comparison. I shall be glad when the spare battery arrives too, as it uses more battery power than my old camera and I always like to carry a spare. My word you've got a lot more done than me today, although I have gone through the fridge and emptied it and wiped it out as it's had a funny smell I couldn't track down. I think it may have been a bit of old cheese?? You must be pleased to be getting all your craft stuff sorted, it will make it so much easier to find what you want in future. :-D Your plait you are doing sounds very nice! I would like that.

Yes I wondered where Gill was. Maybe she has been in the garden finishing her water feature with plants?

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Jan 2019 21:19

Is'nt it horrid when you get a smell in the fridge and can't track it down. I had that with a lemon once. Gosh they do pong so when they go mouldy. Its one smell I can't stand. I had to wrap it in a poly bag really securely to get rid of the smell.

Mandy It was a miss spelling I did'nt do the chickens today it was a Chicken and broccoli plait. It was very nice but the new pots were horrid and oh dd'nt eat his after the first bite. They were all watery and it was a different variety than I usual get so I shall have to have a look on the packet to see which one it was and not buy those again.

Ann dos'nt your camera have a charging lead like mine has? I plug it into the pc and that charges it so when youdownload pics its chargeing all the time.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Jan 2019 21:26

I hope Jane is ok as we hav'nt heard from her today either and I worry as she has had this cough and cold a long while now.

Mandy I can just picture Max hoggy the fire after a walk in the cold air. Today has been really cold here and the chickens water kept freezing up during the day. I had to empty the metal one tonight and brought the plastic drinker up to the house so I can fill that and take it when I feed them in the morning. I also emptied some water out of my wheelbarrow this morning and the ice that came out was just the same as when I tipped it out tonight when I corned the bantams. I must check their water in the morning too but thiers is under cover of their house and there is also poly wrapped around the outside of the run.

That seems a terrible price to buy teacher a present. I would'nt do that and I don't blame your DIL Mandy for not giving the teachers presents either.

Annx Report 3 Jan 2019 22:35

What a mess with your surgery Mel! It's all very well the CQC saying it was inadequate but so is only having a surgery as far away as Holsworthy. They really should sort something better and quickly.

Yes, I have leads for my cameras, but I can use more than one battery up on one trip out on holiday, so need another with me to carry on with. This camera takes less photos on a charge than my old one as well. I don't use the leads to downlload my photos either and use an adapter I leave plugged in the laptop to slot the picturecard into instead to download them. It saves keep using the ports on the laptop as I already have one that has worked loose from the flashsticks. I recharge my old camera with a lead that has a wall plug on it instead of using the computer one, but I'm not sure what all the cables are on the new one yet!

Hopefully Jane has just been catching up with James's Christmas now he is home.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Jan 2019 22:43

I do hope so. I forgot James was home today.

I have a plug on my old camera that I plug that into.

Gillx

Gillx Report 4 Jan 2019 11:39

Morning all

Dull here today but no rain and it's not as cold as it was the other day.

I've been so busy these past few days finishing off the gardens. I spent all day yesterday cutting back all the old bits on plants so the new shoots can find their way through. I also moved most of the new neighbours plants to the side of our bungalow as I needed to get to the back of the garden to tidy that area. I also got rid of quite a lot of leaves especially right down the back and trimmed the edges on the lawn. All I need now is some nice spring weather so the lawns can be cut. I have some bulbs that need planting this month so might do that later or tomorrow depending on the weather.

OH and I were hoping to watch the meteor shower last night but it was to cloudy. I was quite disappointed as it's suppose to be the best one this year. Sandra bought be a book for Christmas which tells me everything that's happening in the night sky month by month....it's brilliant, just my type of thing. I was looking out of the window the other day just before dawn and noticed what looked like a bright start to the right of the moon, I checked my book and it turned out to be Saturn. I think I'm going to enjoy looking into the sky this year :-)

I hope Frank gets his laptop back again soon, it's been strange not having him on here.

Sorry to see you're still not well Jane, I hope the doctor can give you something to make you better. Love the photo's you sent especially the pool. I should imagine Hannah and Gareth are feeling the cold now their back home.

I haven't caught up with all the post yet so hope everyone else is okay.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 4 Jan 2019 12:46

Jane, just checked on here to see if you were ok as I put something on the bird thread for you. Sorry you are still not well. the following is copied from the bird thread.

Jane the following is from our local paper.
“That real Christmas tree could be causing more problems than needles on the floor.. more than a third of us suffer from an increase in hay fever like symptoms this time of year known as Christmas tree syndrome. Signs.... itchy nose, watery eyes, chest pains, cough,..... and it can affect adults, children and babies. Thousands of asthma sufferers are admitted to hospital every year in December as a result of mould that develops on Christmas trees. And thrives when brought into a warm environment,”

Gillx

Gillx Report 4 Jan 2019 13:01

Just been outside to feed the birds and it's gone really cold so the bulbs will be done another day now.

Sorry to hear about your sister Ann, I hope the infection clears soon. It must of been awful spending Christmas in hospital. Sending her get well wishes. How nice to meet up with your old work colleague that'll be something to look forward to.

How is your neck Mel, hope that's better. I sleep with just one pillow as I find if I use two my neck is stiff to. I wonder what happened to that boy did you hear anything more about it. I hope he's okay.

How nice to see your B Brother again Jane, less than a month to go, hope you are fit and well by then and you finally shift this bug you've had.

Oh bless Lewis for saying he was okay because he wasn't crying. They do come out with some funny saying sometimes don't they Mandy. It sounds like Max was having a great time with everyone around.

How is Ruby now Anne. I hope she's feeling better. It sounds like you've been as busy as me tidying up your garden. It's a nice feeling when everything is tidy isn't it? We'll both be able to enjoy our gardens with not as much work to do in the spring now. :-)

I didn't know all that about Christmas trees Ann. We haven't had a real one for years but it would explain why so many people are ill around Christmas time.

OH is going to get the Christmas boxes down from the loft today. Is it tomorrow the decorations come down, I can never remember if it's the 5th or the 6th December?
Does anyone know???? :-S :-S

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 4 Jan 2019 13:23

I think it is the 6th Gill, but we don't stick to that. I am not superstitious (can't be as I was born on the 13th.

Dermot

Dermot Report 4 Jan 2019 14:10

Does anyone else (of a certain maturity) bother to attend old work colleagues reunions?

I try to attend our annual one in London where our employer was based at the time - prior to relocation.

About 50 or more turn up - varying in age & agility. Usually a relaxing & an enjoyable few hours follow with memories (& drink) flowing. :-D

Gillx

Gillx Report 4 Jan 2019 14:43

Thanks Ann, I wasn't sure which was the right day. I am superstitious, but only to a point, although I don't know why as life would probably be the same either way. I'll
take the decs down tomorrow as I like Sundays spent with family so it will be out of the way then.

Can't help you there Dermot, I'm our daughter's carer so have never really worked outside the house, just a few small short term jobs here and there when she was in school.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 4 Jan 2019 14:51

I don't do anything like that Dermot as I worked for myself most of my life or should I say for my first hubby. I am sure some people of a certain age do still go to works gatherings though.

I am just off to Holsworthy to pick up our scripts and have a look and see if the new Poundshop is open. I get some nice bits for the boys for Christmas in those shops. I buy all year for their stockings.

Glad to see Jane is ok and was interested in that artical AnninGlos put up as we have Christmas trees over the back to us and I have had a cough all summer and runny eyes and sneezing and I don't usually get hay fever. Interesting........... :-|

Gill you have been busy in the garden. I have picked up some branches that have fallen off the big ash tree and tidied a few of oh's things up but he leaves things everywhere. I don't think there is one place I could take a photo in this BIG garden where there is'nt something he has left there.

Jane Report 4 Jan 2019 16:16

Home again now with Antibiotics and Menthol Crystals . I have just had my head over a bowl of steaming water and bot doesnt the menthol my your eyes water!!. I think I probably put too many in. My nose is streaming and cough a tiny bit looser :-D

Thanks Ann for the Tree info. I have replied on the bird thread
:-D
No work reunions here Dermot . I would enjoy something like that.I think it is nice that you can still get to meet up with old colleagues once a year :-D. I seem to recall you have mentioned before that you have this annual get together in London.

Gill I just picture your water feature tinkling away :-D. I just find them mesmerising and very relaxing.

Mel what a right do with the surgery busniness!!! It is shocking. I hope something is sorted out very soon so you dont have to keep going into Holsworthy .it must be dreadfully difficult for elderly and people with no cars. Is there a local bus service that picks up in the surrounding villages and Hamlets to get people to Holsworthy?

I am going to have a sit down on the settee by the fire now . That short outing to the Drs has just about done me in :-S

Annx Report 4 Jan 2019 16:24

Afternoon All,

We did have a frost this morning but nowhere near as bad as expected so OH soon got my car scraped. The cats at the house where we bead didn't budge from their slumber all the time we were there this morning. The new cat was out somewhere though and we never saw her.

I hope the doc can give you some antibiotics Jane. I used to get so stressed if I couldn't see my usual doctor as it was a real battle to try and get the others to give me any. My usual doctor knew that I got bacterial infections on top of a chest infection and told me always to come straight down once I knew. He even put something in my notes, but said he couldn't guarantee what another doctor would do. With this bad cold on top, you must feel pretty ropey you poor thing. How is Chris now?

That was interesting what AnninGlos said about the Christmas trees. You don't think of these things do you and Jane thought her tree wasn't helping.

We ate at home today as it is so cold and some places don't have much heating on. Two of the beading ladies remarked that it must be cold today as I had a coat on!! LOL I got some haddock in a sauce from the freezer and green veg mix you pop in the microwave and some mashed potato, mostly for OH.
OH took the decs down while I was out and put some other things in the loft out of the way at the same time. I have been shredding my oldest statements and chucking out old magazines and OH has been through all his shirts and thrown some away. He says there is a moratorium on shirt buying now as he counted what is left and still has 70 shirts!!! :-0

Gill it didn't take you long to be getting on with the garden again. I still have bulbs to put in my wall pots and noticed the other day that the shoots have started growing so I better get them planted!

Well I better get on now. I am making a pom pom!!! :-D
