Morning All,
Slept well and got an appointment at the docs as I needed the annual checkup for one condition and needed to see about two other issues too so ended up with a double appointment with one doctor and a single appointment with another although all three issues could be connected! What a world we live in and thank goodness we can still drive. All is well and sorted now and prescriptions sent to the pharmacy. OH had a wander round the charity shops while I was there and has bought 7 books for £5, all in very good condition. What a bargain and he was quite chuffed with them.
I thought you had a new PC Mel, so I wonder what has happened with it? I assume it switches on ok.
Vera, some success then with finding your download folder, but like you say where did the downloads go I wonder?? I hope your Granddaughter can help or try sending them again.
I hope you don't catch the cold AnnG and enjoy your visit to Agatha Christie's house. I've never been there, probably because I didn't know about it years ago.
We've decided to go to the Italian restaurant for a much belated anniversary meal. It's good there as with all the seperate dishes you can choose the healthier things.

Good morning
It seems a bit cooler again and still a bit grey though the weather app says it’s sunny. I’m not sure what I’ll be doing today. None of the group are meeting for our usual coffee so I have the morning free but there’s plenty of h/w to be done if I can get motivated. This afternoon Sainsbury are delivering between 2 and 3 pm. Have a good day whatever you are doing.

Isn't technology frustrating? My phone is very old and no longer updated so I wondered if that might be the problem. I tried sorting these messages on my phone, my iPad and my desktop computer. They are all synced in different ways, particularly the phone and the iPad. I had checked the Downloads folder on the desktop AnnG and there was nothing there. I didn't have a file name to put in Search - all I had was that it was a picture message. I tried putting those words in but the search didn't find anything. Thanks for mentioning Downloads and the Search box. It never hurts to be reminded; as you say, it is easy to forget.
On my phone and iPad there is an app called Files. I've never bothered with it before but had a look last night and found a Downloads folder . Unfortunately, I found there were no items in the folder so where on earth have they gone?
I have sent a quick text to granddaughter (it's the one with the horse) to thank her for sending them and explain I couldn't retrieve them I've told her I'm feeling very tired and headachy at the moment and am going to bed shortly but will be in touch in a couple of days to tell her what I did and she can tell me where I went wrong and how to find the downloads. I just didn't want her to think I had ignored her.
What a miserable lady in the bed place Annx. I bet she doesn't make many sales but the young man sounds a though he has a bright future ahead of him. A bit of courtesy never goes amiss.
Now I am going to get myself ready for bed and then I might catch up on a Countryfile programme. We missed a lot during the summer so I've got plenty to catch up on. I hope you all have a good night.

What a nuisance Vera. I know it has taken me ages to locate things sometimes in the past and still often does. I think 'scans' were things I used to have trouble with on my PC. Well I thought I'd try and find the same on my mobile as I haven't done any downloads on it yet. It told me to look in my APPS for my file or file manager APP. I didn't have one! It then showed me how to download the File APP so I will look at doing that tomorrow when I'm fresher! I had no idea it wouldn't already have something basic like that already downloaded. I wonder where your phone has downloaded things to and hope you get it sorted. At least your issue has taught me something about my phone as well!
Yes my friend was glad to see me. She seems to have had an awful time. Her OH fell and hit his head some time ago causing brain damage that meant he couldn't even answer a phone, then later was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer. She has step family and two brilliant neighbours who have been supportive.
The cafe is in the carpark so we could hear the birds but not see any. I know others that wouldn't pick a bird up, but I used to breed the little canaries with beatle cuts and got used to handling them. Also chasing and catching mum's chickens when they got out!
Mandy my washing dried ok so I hope yours did too. We were both too weary to go to The Range in the city, so went to the bed place nearby after filling my car. The lift wouldn't work when we tried to go the other day and the beds were upstairs. A very nice young man listened to what I wanted ,but said he was training and needed to take me to a woman sitting further along at a computer. Well she was an older woman and was as rude as the young asian boy was polite! I asked whether they had any continental divan bases and she barked what did I mean. (bear in mind this is what their own website calls them). Apparently yes, so I asked how the two bases fix together and it is under the mattress and you have to lift one base up off the floor to drop in a slot on the other half. No good for us with bad backs when we have another similar bed that has hooks on the sides that just fix in a slot on the other base each side with no lifting. The same company supplied that bed as well, but we'll have to look elsewhere. The woman never smiled once or apologised for not having what we wanted, but the young man even thanked us and said we'd helped him learn something he didn't know today. Such a difference in customer service.
The paint sets are a good idea for the children and be a nice surprise. I didn't know The Range did craft stuff too so I must see if I can go soon.

Vera is this on your main desk top or lap top. I am sure that you have looked down the left hand side where it says documents, pictures etc. there could also be “downloads” listed there.
Have you also put the title of the file into search on your PC.
You have probably done all that but sometimes it is easy to forget.

Afternoon everyone
It’s been a grey, grey day here. It’s not really cold but looks it as there hasn’t been a peep of the sun. This morning I tidied and ironed and did some admin and this afternoon I went into town for my meds and did a load of other shopping while I was there. It was all bits and pieces but took me ages going from one shop to another. When did chocolate get so expensive? I rarely buy chocolate or sweets but just felt like some today and I couldn’t believe the price.
The D’Oyly Cartes place sounds interesting AnnG. I hope you’ve had an enjoyable time at the orchid garden and meeting up with your friend.
It’s sad your friend lost her husband. Annx. I expect she was glad to see you. I don’t think I would have been comfortable at that birdland place. I’m not good with birds flying in enclosed spaces or flapping their wings too near me. That was lucky you didn’t lay on your glasses last night.
Well, I didn’t manage to sort out granddaughter’s messages and videos last night. I had 3 messages telling me I had been sent a picture message and I had to go into an EE site (our provider) and enter 3 different long passwords to get the messages. At first I thought it was a scam but checked things out and decided it was OK so followed the instructions And the first one opened. It was a written message and a photo and it said I could download them so I pressed Download and it came up with Download Successful. I got into the next 2 messages which were both videos but was told they couldn’t be opened but could be downloaded so I did that. So far, so good. Then I tried to find the downloads. I checked just about every file and folder on my phone,, iPad and computer and I cannot see where they are. This morning I went into the site to look at them again only to be told that the messages couldn’t be found. Presumably they are no longer available because they have been downloaded. I shall have to get on to granddaughter to tell me what to do next. I thought I was reasonably good with technology but this has shown me what a dinosaur I am.
Better go and sort out our meal. Cooking dinner is something I can manage ;-)

Afternoon all, The day started off quite merky and misty with fine drizzle, we decided we would do our shopping today so off we went and by the time we got back had our coffee it was much brighter so I hung the bedding out and it is moving a bit on the line so hopefully will get dry, it doesn't feel that cold out and so far we have only had the heating on once ,no fires yet as we're waiting for son to sweep the chimney before we light it up ,he should be coming on Friday to do that and look at the draining pipe on the dishwasher as when I moved it I noticed water coming from the pipe and when I looked there's a split so son has got a joiner thingy so he'll cut the pipe and use the joiner to do a repair .
Anng I hope you enjoy your afternoon with your friend , the Orchid garden sounds nice as Ann said I wonder if they will have some for sale .
Ann that sounds a nice lunch ,I like doing a tray bake you can bung anything on the tray and it all cooks together so nice and easy. You were lucky with your glasses that you didn't roll on them or it would have been more expensive as our Frank use to say , I often think of him and wonder how he is now. Hope your knees can get you round the Range ,I really want to go into ours as I still haven't been upstairs in ours yet and that is where all the craft stuff is . Aldi had water colour sets in so I got the girls and Lewis some for Christmas.
Mel have you found the little miniature yet that you lost , I meant to ask did you go for the meal last Sunday I don't remember if you said what you had or not , perhaps I missed it.
Yes Vera Colins done all the edge of the jigsaw and put all the other bits on four trays ,it's a nice one of big Ben with London buses and a mini ,looks like its sixties as the lady has a mini skirt on . Hope you managed to sort out the video of your granddaughter, modern technology is great when you can get things to work .

Good Mid-day Everyone,
Slept well but found my glasses at the side of me this morning. I'm lucky I haven't rolled on them before now. Washing's on the rotary so I hope it stays fine so it dries. Just oiled the lock on the door at the back of the garage. OH does it once and doesn't think about it ever again. Lunch is nearly ready, a traybake of peppers, onions, tomato, courgette and mushroom with salmon and a few low fat chips. Out after lunch to refuel my car and maybe visit a different bathroom place or The Range if my knees hold out!
The Orchid garden sounds interesting AnnG. I wonder whether they will have any for sale. It will be nice to meet your friend too.

Morning Anng and all you lovely ladies,
Misty here too and I think thats why everything is wet but I don't think its rained. Its 13 degrees and we may get some sun by 12 noon.Other than that its mostly cloudy. They say here is Devon if you can't see Dartmoor its a good sign but if its clear then its going to be wet. I have seen it on many a time going to the docs on a beautiful day clear as a bell and its not rained at all. Just a useless bit of information collected from locals along the way while I have lived here.
And with that I shall leave you to the rest of your day see you later. :-D

Evening All,
It's been sunny here today but quite chilly. This morning I met up with an old work friend I hadn't seen since the pandemic. Her husband sadly passed away last year and she is steadily doing the inevitable sorting of everything and disposing of things, including her horse saddle and rugs etc as she had a 17 hands high beautiful, jet black, thoroughbred horse for years who sadly had to be put down a few years ago. We met up at Tropical Birdland near her and is where I have visited in the past, but never the cafe before. It was a good choice as the carpark is next to it and is unmarked so I could park with plenty of space to get in and out of my car and the cafe was quite spacious and not busy so we were there having a good chat and something to eat for about three hours. Some of the Parrots and Cockatiels there fly free and my friend said she's had them in her garden about a mile away in the past. She said there were two African Grey Parrots in one of her trees once and when she contacted them they knew which birds they were and when they came to fetch them, they just called their names and they flew straight down onto their arms. I called at the shop for a few bits coming home and have done little else. OH has gone to a match with his friend tonight.
Did you manage to find the miniature that had vanished Mel? It's so annoying when that happens. I never seem to be able to get on with anything when I am waiting for someone to come either. As soon as you start it's guaranteed they will arrive!
You are finding some nice places AnnG and that house sounds as if it's in a lovely setting with great views and how nice to see it on a lovely day too.
I hope you've had a bit of a rest today after your busy days Mandy. I need to clear some of the marigolds now as they are past their best and the Magpies were having a tug of war with one plant yesterday. The geraniums are still flowering away in pots but the other plants in the pots can come out now. The garden bin will be about full then as I cut a lot of the Golden Lanterns down yesterday.
That was nice to catch up with your ex neighbours Vera. I hope that shop won't encourage any nuisance and noise. We have found that even if councils themselves turn things down there is often an appeal and the District Inspectors allow things. So much for the Localism Act brought in a few years ago that is supposed to consider the views of local people!
Better empty the washer now and then I'm off to bed. :-)

You can keep your prawns and crab as I don't like either. Oh would have liked them. Like Annx I don't eat any shell fish. I have tried one of oh's mussles once.
Done some varnishing today and not much else apart fromm doing dinner of meat pie, swede, sprouts and new pots.

It has been a lovely day today sunny and quite warm. We drove to Coleton Fishacre this morning. This is a small house built for the D’Oyly Cartes in the Art Devobstyle. Apparently in the early 1920s they were yachting out in the bay and passed the valley and hills on land and decided that was where they wanted a house and it was built C1926. From the end of the plot which is large there are lovely views out to see. I have been there once before but it was good to have a reminder. Some of the ornaments and jewellery on display are beautiful. From there we drove to Brixham had a short walk around and a visit to a cafe for sandwiches for lunch. Yesterday we bought crab sandwiches and brought them back here to eat for lunch. Sadly today, this place didn’t have any crab so I had prawns still nice.

Good afternoon people
It’s not a bad day; mostly cloudy but quite warm and with just a slight breeze. Like Mandy I hung some washing out. I’ve just brought it in and all the lighter stuff is dry and I’ll finish off the heavier stuff indoors.
You have some nice places lined up for a visit AnnG, though sometimes it’s good not to do anything special but just relax. I haven’t been to that area of Devon for years. My daughter, then aged 4, learnt to swim in a heated seawater swimming pool in Torquay. I wonder if it’s still there. That happened when we were staying near Torquay during a particularly cold and wet week and had to find something to do with the children. We tried it the first day and they both loved it so we went back every morning and then had a hot lunch in a nearby café afterwards. I hope you have a nice day with your friends tomorrow.
Your cold carvery doesn’t sound very nice at all Annx. I wouldn’t fancy that.
Mandy, you and Mel have both been busy with the hanging baskets and veg plants and getting everything cut down. Our poor garden has been very neglected. Neither OH nor I have had the time or energy to do much over the last 3 or 4 months. There are a lot of low growing spreading weeds that we ought to get out before they seed everywhere and lots of dead and dying annuals to remove and other plants to be cut down for the winter. How’s Colin getting on with his jigsaw?
Have you found your tiny cow creamer yet Mel? It’s strange how these things disappear.
I’ve just sorted out a Sainsbury order for delivery on Thursday, done a couple of emails and done a bit of online banking. The window cleaners came while we were out yesterday and I like to pay them quickly or I forget. We had a nice lunch with our ex-neighbours yesterday and exchanged all the news of our families. Like us, they moved away from where we both used to live but they moved back a couple of years ago so we got all the latest village gossip as well.
I had an email from the local council responding to my concerns about the alcohol license for the shop opening at the end of the road. Basically it was saying, in a very nice polite way, that I didn’t stand a chance against them. They sent me a note of the conditions agreed to by the applicant such as not to sell alcohol to anyone under age and to provide CCTV recordings to the police if required etc. and asking if I would confirm I accept the application or if I wanted to “raise a representation”. I don’t want to go down that route so have had to say I accept the application. I still can’t get anyone to confirm whether this shop is going to be an off-licence or a general store that sells the occasional bottle of wine or can of beer. There’s quite a difference between the two.
Right, I am now going to have a fight with modern technology and I think technology might win. Granddaughter sent me a photo and a couple of videos by a method I have never seen before. I tried to sort it on my iPad yesterday and saw the photo and her message but they wouldn’t download for me to keep. I couldn’t see the videos at all. I’m now going to have a go on the main computer. Wish me luck!
