Morning Jane and all,

O dear that dos'nt sound good Jane. Was it a BIG tree? and how much of it is in your garden? Is it the nasty neighbour?

Brightish here this morning out the back where the sun should be and grey out the front again.

We had lashing rain and gale force winds last night. It blew a chair over on the patio and I could see the old Christmas tree wobbling and nearly going over and that in a huge pot. Hope Gill screening stood up to it if they had it up there and all her plants in pots are safe.

I was greeted thi smorning with an email from our Shirl. It was funny and so true in some cases. I Expect you lot had it too. I like the one about getting up without side effects. I know just how that is and so does oh. We are always grunting and growning whilst doing things.

I have to go down for some scripts today but apart from that just the usual chores and I need to clean the bathroom. Oh will no doubt be up in the loft again so I am enjoying the heat in here while I can.

Morning Jane, morning all,

Didn't hear much wind until about five thirty this morning thats when it really got going ,the bins had gone over and the bird box was down ,in the old peoples place their green house has taken a battering there's not many sheets of perspex left in it.
We have the radio on and there's school's closed and lots of trees down and villages without power so i think we've been very lucky.

Will Chris cut the tree up Jane or will he leave it to your neighbour?
How's your greenhouse ?

Hope every one has faired ok with not to much damage , it does seemed to have calmed down here now .

Morning All
What a windy night. We can see that the Rotten Tree next door has collapsed right into our garden!!!! Too dark still to actually see properly but it looks a right mess. The fencing will all be broken too I should think.
Chris is not going to be a happy boy :-S :-S

Poor James having a cold now after his sickness bug. Hope he feels better soon Jane. A temperature of 104 isn't good for Fitz's OH, hope she doesn't have Australian Flu and is better soon.

That was nice to see your friend and his wife Frank. Did you manage to watch the football tonight. It's pouring with rain here and a bit warmer than it has been, but I expect if it goes cold again the rain could fall as snow.

The bows sound lovely that your DIL bought Mandy, she got a bargain with them. It sounds like you both had a nice time shopping. Good job Colin called you back though or like you said you wouldn't of been able to change the top for your son.

Frank

Frank Report 17 Jan 2018 21:27

I sat through the soaps, switching over to catch the football. Now that Girl thing is on, and I just get annoyed watching and hearing them shout and scream. I just don't need it.

We had a nice Korma curry tonight, with tomato's, pineapple and Cucumber. She forgot the banana's. Ros being in Nigeria years ago, aways does fruit with any curry, it's what they did in Africa. !!! I am so use to it now, it never bothers me.

Just having a beer, then I will be off to bed. I have had my tablets. Just my sleeper to take when I am in bed, and hopefully I will sleep tonight.

Good night God bless you all, Sleep tight.

Jane

Jane Report 17 Jan 2018 21:03

Successful day shopping then Mandy :-D. I havent seen many little girls with these big bows lately. The fact they are going cheap now might mean the trend is coming to an end.Good job you managed to change the top for your Son. I took one back last week that I bought for James that was too small but was given a Gift Card as I didnt have the receipt.

Mel this is late for making Dough Boys!! Is it the left over Irish Stew from the other night? I cheat and buy frozen dumplings :-S

Kiri is on now so will say Night Night

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 17 Jan 2018 19:22

Yes I have a nice hot meal for tonight, another Irish Stew with leeks, carrots, turnip, celery and pearl barley and new potatoes, two stock cubes and two teaspoons of chicken stock powder and some black pepper and a knob of butter. I am just going to make the dough boys.

That must have been a nice surprize to see your friend and his wife Frank. Passed a couple of hours of good company and nice to see some different faces when you don't get out much. It sounds like he has been through the wars with his ops and having the stroke.

Glad you managed to change the top Mandy. I do things like that. Emm made me a Lemon Drizzle cake the other week and I put the plastic box right next to the tray of eggs so I woudl remember to return it to her. What did I do? Left it where it was and only remembered it when I was in her kitchen with the eggs. When I dropped the cake in to them yesterday and she gave me a piece she put it on a Minnions plate which I must remember to return this week. You'll all have to remind me.

Poor James getting a cold on top of being poorly just recently as the others have said perhaps becuse he has been a bit low he has picked it up.

Ann now I have found oh's present perhaps your stick will turn up. I would never have thought to look behind the chair its only that I was trying to make some room in there I came across it. You'll have to think of the most unlikely spot you could have put it and maybe you'll find it. :-D :-D

Evening all,

It's been freezing here today that wind nearly cuts you in half , Norwich was quiet so it was nice shopping in comfort .
Ann i did change the top for son with no problems but i nearly didn't take it with me if it hadn't been for Colin calling me after i got out the gate it would still be laying in the conservatory , i laid the bag with my coat and hand bag put my coat on picked up my bag and off i went .

I didn't buy much just some new socks and a nightie and a pair of Paw Patrol jogging bottoms for Lewis .
DIL bought all sorts leggings and hats for the girls a couple of t shirts and a pair of jogging bottoms for Jake underwear for herself and some nice JoJo hair bows for the girls in the sale ,they are usually at least five pounds each and were down to a pound each, they are so pretty with sparkly stones on them .

Frank the Samson has been made into apartments i think ,that's round in Tombland isn't it ,we use to go to a nice steak house round there years ago but i bet that's long gone .
Norwich is about 14 miles from us so only about half an hour on the bus ,Lewis loves going on the bus he's chattering the whole time bless him.
That was nice to have some company this afternoon ,it passed the afternoon away .
Well at least you know what your doing now Ann with the appointment taking that long .
I always think about those poor chaps having to wash cars in this weather they must be frozen poor things with all that spray .

Poor old chickens Mel ,i bet the feathers are ruffled with the wind and i bet they don't think much of the thunder and lightning either .
You'll be feeling extra cold with the loft hatch open so will want some thing hot for your meal tonight .

Poor James coming down with a cold now ,i expect he was still a bit low after the bug he had so that's why he's picked a cold up, dose him up .
I have a slow cooker ,i think i've used it once !! i really should get it out of the back of the cupboard and use it again , i think i'll look a few recipes up and see what looks tasty .

Afternoon All

Yes Brass Monkeys come to mind Frank. it is BITTER. I see on the news that Moffat in the Borders has so much snow . I expect my relatives there are not going anywhere at the moment. Hopefuly they will be just staying in and keeping warm.

It has been one of those days today where I have hardly been able to keep my eyes open. I slept quite well too last night . Thomas woke me just before 6.I have a feeling he might have a full tum (and not cat food). Poor old James woke this morning with a humdinger of a cold. He had a funny throat last night. So I have been and stocked up on Day and Night Nurse, and Vicks Inhalor. Fitz's OH is really poorly. She had a temperature of 104 last night and was a little gaga. It sounds like she might have the Australian Flu :-(
I am keeping everything crossed that we are all going to be healthy for Hannahs Graduation next week.

Ann you asked what Hannahs plans are now she has the PhD. She is in her second year now of Clinical Training and has one more year to do. She will then be a Clinical Psychologist so will be looking for a proper job :-D :-D

So you are staying then Gill. I think that is probably the best thing. You dont want to upsticks unless you really need to. You have done so much with the bungalow and the garden it would be a wrench to leave all that now. At least you have had a bit of a clear out and done some sorting.

Frank, your friend has been through a lot with his leg and then a Stroke. I bet he and his wife enjoyed coming to see you and Ros for a while. I think if i were you I might give ringing your Sister a miss just for now.She must have your number so could always call you. You sound good at the moment and wont want to get down if she is tearful .At least you know she has her other Son keeping an eye on her at the moment.

Poor Chooks Mel in their soggy run.. They will be glad of some fresh shavings tomorrow :-D. Are you warm now with the heating on? Probably having the loft hatch open had made the house colder. Maybe you have a nice hot meal on the go for tonight to warm you both up.
I have had the slow cooker on for the last 6 hours with a Beef dish . I only need to do rice as there are Carrots,Celery and Chopped Tomatoes in the dish. I could do more veg but I think no-one will moan if I dont. So I won't
:-D

Evening All,

You have had quite a bit of thunder and lightning lately haven't you Mel. Some of the fields around here were flooded again after all the rain yesterday but it has been a nice sunny day here, but quite chilly and getting windier now. Are the legs your OH is putting on the boards to lift them above the insulation? I saw some in B&Q last time I went and thought they were a good idea.

Fancy you finding OH's lost present! I was restoring more stuff on my new flashstick yesterday, but still have more to do. Perhaps you could pop over and have a look for me.......you seem to have been good at finding things lately!

I got the car washed in the village this afternoon and I think the boys were glad to be doing it to warm themselves up as there was no-one else there. One had a hood over the top of his woolly hat. They are always cheerful and so polite though. As I drove out 2 of them were jumping up and down on the spot, trying to jump higher than each other to keep warm. As I drove by I smiled at them and held my hands up rubbing them together. They beamed back and both gave me a big thumbs up!! Their english isn't great, but there are ways to make them understand you! lol. When I got home I hoovered and dusted the car inside and it looks much better now, but I must try and do the front and back screens on the inside tomorrow.

OH has gone out to Rutland now to do a presentation later so I hope this bad weather that's expected doesn't affect his trip home. He's gone early as he wants to look around a good charity bookshop he's found there. :-)

OH has had a letter already about his cataract being done, but when he rang they told him that the appointment would be just to see the consultant first and that could be in 3-4 months and the appointment to do it would be some time after that. They have forwarded his papers to the hospital who will be doing it now and he has to wait for them to contact him next. We have decided to go ahead and book our holiday as it sounds like it will be a while after that before he has it done.

It's a good idea not to ring your sister today Frank. You have to think of yourself too as you haven't been too chipper lately and she may also get herself worked up about her son being away. She may be getting more used to the idea by the time you do ring.

Did you manage to change the top Mandy?

OH burst out laughing at me this morning as I was thinking and said I wasn't making enough 'memories'. His answer was that I'd better set to and make some then!! :-D

Frank Report 17 Jan 2018 17:14

Glad to see you are on the thread Gill. Stay with us each day if you can, it will keep you in touch, and help break your day up.xx

Your Oh is keeping himself very busy Mel. I expect when the lost is all boarded, it will be warmer in the bungalow. My sister has been on her own for around six years. But thankfully she still have both her sons living within visiting distance. Paul is just round the corner, so is the main person she relies on.

I had a phone call from a friend round the corner, wanting to visit us, with his wife. He has had Cancer of the bone in his left leg. They thought he needed his knee replacing, but when they X Rayed it, found a grow on the bone above the knee. They took away a lot of his leg above and below the knee. and replaced the whole lot. This was only a month ago, so he is doing remarkable well considering. He has also had a STROKE. It made a nice break for them both to get out of the house for a couple of hours.

It's perishing cold outside. I went out to help my fried down the step. and almost froze my bits off. :-0 :-0 :-0 Brass Monkeys come to mind. LOL.

I see Norwich are playing Chelsea tonight, on BBC 1. Not sure if the Conservatory will be warm enough, even with the heater on, to sit out there to watch it. I will see later. K.O is I think 7.45 or 8.00 pm.

Did you enjoy your Trip to Norwich Mandy, ?? How far are you from there. ??

Going to watch "FLOG IT" so see you later.

I did a load of ironing this morning before getting lunch. Oh has been down in the kitchen screwing screws into the legs the boards stand on. He said it is easier to do it down here than on his knees up in the loft. He has done two boxes of them so has now gone back up there. Its getting cold down here now so I think the heating will have to go on for a while whether it goes up the loft or not.

Afternoon all

Sunny here but very windy and cold.

We had hailstones yesterday too Mel and a few flakes of snow.

Fitz comes from a good background Jane, even if he thinks of himself as the poor relative.

How is your OH getting on with the loft Mel. When we had ours done we noticed such a difference, although the loft itself is a lot colder than it used to be.

I've decided to leave everything I've packed in boxes as I don't use any of it very much so probably won't miss it. Plus a lot of it is material which had gone a musty smell with having it all under the bed so I don't want to put it back there as it took me hours to wash it all, so that'll go into the loft when OH is fit enough to put it up there. I still need to go through my wardrobes so will probably have more stuff to put in the loft. My wardrobes are more like cupboards with just a few clothes and shoes for show LOL. So I'll carry on going through everything and have a good sort out. I have noticed that I have a lot of family tree stuff in difference places so I'll box it all up together before I forget where it all is.

I woke up with a stiff neck yesterday and it's still very sore, so typing is quite painful.

I think I'll go and get some painkillers and have a lie down. I've done some hoovering and polishing today, plus a few loads of washing, so I don't suppose that has helped.

All cloudy now and we have had rain and hail.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 17 Jan 2018 12:12

Yes Frank I think dad used to call it Cow Pat Hill sometimes.

I was 10 years old when you were stationed at Constitution Hill.

Hope your sister is ok Frank. How long will she be on her own?

Sun is still out here but we just had a small short sharp shower. The wind is enough to cut you like a knife out there this morning. There are still some patches of hailstones where they have collected in hole and folds. Round by my pond there is a net resting against the little wall and that has about four inches in it.

Poor girls are still extremly wet in their run and oh has all the lagging stacked in the garage and I can't get to their woodshavings. I was going to add some to the house today and clean the nests out. They will keep sleeping in the nests, but I don't blame so leave them there. This means I have to clear out their droppings from the nests each morning so now they need more shavings in there.

Frank

Frank Report 17 Jan 2018 11:01

Good Morning Mel, and all.

Very bright sunshine and blue sky's here this morning, but BOY is that wind cold.

No sign of hail or snow, which they say might comes behind the 60/70 mph winds. I think Scotland and Northern Ireland are in for the worse of it.

No ill effects from my injection, but I must say Louise (the nurse) is very gentle with me. ;-) ;-) ;-)

My Niece Susan (Bill's daughter) sent me loads of photo's of Bill in Egypt when they had the Sueze )sp) Crisis. King FAROUK was the King of Egypt at that time. This would have been in the early 50s. She has found a box of old newspaper clippings and photo's from when he was in his 20s. We are like two peas in a pod. <3 <3

Fitz certainly came from a good background Jane, even though he might be the poor relative now. !! He can say he's been there, got the T shirt. etc. and a lot of fond memories.

I am on a thread about Woodford Bridge, where I was born. I found out yesterday that our local Beauty Spot. Millman's Hill or Drapers Hill, had another name over 100 years ago. COW PAT HILL. It was from the time that cattle grazed on the hill. They say you learn something new every day !!! Had your heard of it Mel, when you were local. ??

I am not sure if I should ring my Sister today, as today is when Paul goes away for a few days, she is bound to be tearful, and I am not sure I need it. !!!

I must ring Simon. We were going to have him and Sally over for a Sunday Lunch, before Christmas. It never happened, so we should try to find a Sunday when Sally isn't on call, or they are busy with her family.

Chicken Curry tonight. I must say the Free Range bird last night, wasn't as tasty as I thought it might be, and there wasn't that much on it. Ros will add a bit of chicken breasts from the freezer to make a meal for tonight.

Mandy, I can't remember the last time I was in Norwich, it must have been 1959 when I was stationed at Old Catton Fighter Control Unit, on Constitution Hill. Is the SAMSON and HERCULES Still opposite the Cathedral ??? Many a good Saturday night spent there. Happy memories. lol lol. There was also the local PUB. THE WOODMAN on the cross roads. by Old Catton.

Ros is off to town by herself this morning, as Carolyn is away until March.

See you all later.

Morning all,

Hope Frank managed to sleep after his cheese and biccy's in the early hours.

We have sunshine at the moment blue sky with white maceral clouds.

We had thunder and lightening last night and it knocked the leccy out then hailstones which lay on the ground for hours about half an inch thick.

Oh is just about ready to go up the loft and do some more so its going to get cold in here again.

Evening All,

It turned perishing here after lunch when the sunshine went! OH decided against going to a match tonight and got his jim jams and dressing gown on instead.

Glad your OH's back has started to ease Gill and if everything is sorted now I take it you aren't moving after all? It would have been a shame not to enjoy the results of all the work you had done on the bungalow and garden. Is Sandra disappointed she won't be getting a big bedroom now?

Anne you do sound quite poorly and must be quite down in spirits with not feeling well. I think the others are right about considering a trip to the docs, but I hope you soon begin to pick up.

I watched Vera I had recorded and thought it was quite good. I've still to watch Silent Witness. We watched the Surgeons prog last night. OMG that poor woman with the 18lb tumour!! She was skin and bone otherwise and only a year older than me. It was wonderful though that they didn't write her off because of her age and did their best for her. I hope she carried on doing well. It must take a lot of courage to tackle some of the cases they have.

Frank, we have a few spiders too. I sucked one up the cordless this morning! I noticed a fly yesterday as well so they must be waking up! I hope you are 'sitting comfortably' now as they used to say on the childrens' daytime tv! :-D I expect she swaps sides each time with the injection.

We went to see Darkest Hour at the cinema about Churchill yesterday. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it, the acting was brilliant. I was expecting it to be cold so I wore a top, cardie, zip up fleece, scarf and had my coat draped over my knees. I had my bright yellow earplugs in, which helped with the noise and didn't even need to take them out for the film as it was loud enough with them in. Two carers with people in wheelchairs were near the front and one was so irritating and wouldn't stop looking at her mobile, despite them telling you to switch them off when the film starts. It was flashing a white screen in the corner of our eyes. OH made a dry comment (to me!) that it isn't all hard work being a carer!

Your OH is getting on well with the loft Mel. If you didn't have insulation before it will make a big difference. Ours is about a foot deep, except where it is boarded down the middle. There are raised bits like platforms at each end and OH put planks across and we store our cases and other things on those. It will be good when you get it straight as you can find things easier then. It was a good find discovering the wool as it is quite expensive now.

I hope Lewis had a nice birthday Mandy. Did you make him a cake? :-) The little garage sounded just the right thing with the age he is. I still can't believe all those gorgeous things you knitted for Lacey's doll.

Jane, Fitz seems to have so many impressive connections! He isn't the poor relation really.......'breeding will show' as they say and he certainly has that with his ancestry!! ;-) ;-). Does Hannah have any plans as to what she will do after her graduation?
