Shame about the weather for the flower show as you say William, still you didn't come home empty handed! I know the Longshoot and The Cock and Bear. Dobbies is a favourite haunt when we are over that way, sells just about everything now......do you remember the garden centre that was there before, The Gates or the Lanes was it?? Mancetter is where OH's grandparents were married. It is nice that Larry was well liked and did a lot for charity. Remember Selwyn Frogett alias Bill Maynard.....he lives quite near here at Sapcote......in his 80s now.
Maureen, baby Harry does sound like a good baby. It nice to have a change of scene and some sea air. Roast lamb lunch sounds good!! I have been looking at your pic on here and am sending you one of me at a coronation party......the little girl stood next to me looks just like you too!! lol

I have a walnut tree in the garden, it must be nearly 100ft tall now. There are always lots of walnuts on it but don't think it's hot enough here for them to ripen. The squirrel very kindly planted a walnut in a pot for me and it has grown to about 3ft.

I've had a lovely couple of days with daughter and baby Harry. We had loads of cuddles, he is such a good baby, very content and always smiling. We went to West Wickering yesterday, daughter's m-i-l and f-i-l have a very nice caravan there and we had a really nice roast lamb lunch then a breezy walk but the sea was way out, apparently they call it windy wickering.
Larry Grayson also said 'shut that door' and had a friend called Everard, todays comics are totally different, have to say I prefer the old ones, like Frankie Howerd with his oooh aaah missus.
Have you got a photo that looks like this one of me Pat, my hair was/is quite naturally wavy, although now I use straighteners but I do remember my mum would sometimes roll my hair in strips of white rag.
Thanks for the photos Frank, the poor groom is having a bad time lately, I do hope they managed to get off on honeymoon okay, shame that his wedding anniversary will always be tinged with sadness. Good to see Ross so happy and yes you do scrub up well ......

Annx, Larry Grayson lived in Clifton Rd, Stockingford before he got famous. Then he got a nice place on Hinckley Road, before it goes along to The Longshoot on the way to the A5 and Hinckley. From Clifton Rd he would use the Cock & Bear pub and a lot of his phrases were all based on local Nuneaton things. Another saying was '"Look at the dust in here", he was just as camp in real life but always considered a local and very well liked by everybody. He also did a lot for local charities etc. Yes Jane, Liza Minella was Judy Garland's ' other daughter', I think Lorna is the more level headed one, at least she's only had one husband! We expected better weather today and went off to a flower festival in Ansley Church. It turned pretty miserable and rainy with not many people calling in. It's a shame after all the hard work that the locals put in. Never mind I had a nice coffee and a delicious piece of home made fruit cake in the church hall, that made up for the weather. We went from there to Dobbies World garden centre at Mancetter. There were loads of people there! The only thing we bought was an indoor begonia for £1 in the sale. It's come to a good home and will be looked after. I'm sure it will reward us with some nice blooms, it still has plenty of buds. Off to do some more family research, catch you all soon.

Thanks for all the smashing pics Frank.......you scrub up well!!! ;-) I often wear purply colours so love Ros's outfit....really suits her. The bride's hairstyle is very pretty and I see from the cake, the groom is a 'sporty' man. lol It looks like you all had as an enjoyable time as you could knowing the sad circs for the groom.
Edit....just saw your post........who was the OTHER one drinking then!!! lol How lovely to be able to stay the night too. That was a nice surprise! I can just imagine you at breakfast......all dolled up to the nines! Glad you had a nice time and that Ros enjoyed it.

Afternoon all,
What a day yesterday was. Don't think we have enjoyed ourselves to much for ages.
Arrived at Church 12.40pm. seats reserved for us in pews. Had to drive about 10 miles to reception. An old Manor House, in acres of ground. On arrival, bucks fizz. Wedding breakfast was, Tomato and pepper soup, followed byBuffet style lunch of Roast beef, Salmon and prawns, Ham and pork, masses of salads. Bottles of Red or White on the table (ONLY TWO OF US DRANK) Sweet was indivual Apple pies cream, and ice cream. follow by coffee. We all adjourned to the Lounge/bar. for them to get ready for the evening (DISCO) In the big room. One of the smaller rooms was kitted out like a casino. Harvey and Julia had, $50.00 notes printed, and we were given $200.00 each yo gamble. Lewis had the job of handing out the "CASH" and of course a few thousand went into his back pocket. We played on the games while the youngsters were on the disco floor. It was getting towards midnight, when Harvey presented both Conrad and Ros with room keys. He felt it would finish our night off. What a wonderful thought that was. Ros got me to the room, and went back down, till 1.00am. I was in the single bed and Ros was in the giant bed. I couldn't sleep and layed there till the dawn broke. I had just droped off, when she woke me to say it was 8.30 where in fack it was 7.30. Not having any clean cloths, we washed and dressed in our wedding gear again. Went down for breakfast. and Julia said to Ros "you are a bit posh for breakfast aren't you" We all sat around the table talking for a couple of hours. Then made our way home with Lewis in tow till Thursday evening.
Jane we came back up the A6 passed that lovely pub at Bletsoe. Is it the Falcon ???
Haven't caught up with the posts, hope you liked to photo's

Afternoon All,
Cooler and breezy here. OH set off early......I think I got him concerned it might be busy near Stansted Airport. Mel, it sounds quite nice where he's going from what you say.......I might have enjoyed it after all!! The one place I might have gone, Mole Hall Wildlife Park about 10 miles away is closed at the moment for alterations to be done. At least I can get on with some jobs in peace instead. Have written some lists of what I need to do!! I hope it stays fine for the dog show, fingers crossed you have lucky raffle tickets.
Oh no Jane, where is a strong husband when you want some 'muscles' to help with the carrying of stuff!! I hope he is feeling better, he must be at risk of all kinds of 'bugs' in his job. It sounds like Hannah is really shifting a lot of stuff to her new flat.....will give you lots more space!!
I bought some bridge rolls this morning, haven't had any for ages, thought I'd split them, make a plate of them up with different toppings for when OH gets back. Tuna, cheese and red onion, scrambled egg and cress and cheese and tomato......he always eats like a horse when he gets home.
Well, I'd better start on that list..........sewing machine out first to alter some jeans.

Morning All,
Sunny but very breezy here today. All gazebo's up on our front field and everyone getting things sorted for the start of the show at 1pm. I have been up and given them a couple of raffle prizes and bought £5 worth of tickets. I went up too late last year and they were just putting the tickets on the prizes. I like the way they do this as you can only get what you have won. Some people let you choose your prize but I think this is far fairer.
Will go and take pics later so I can send some.
Hope Jane has a safe trip to London.
Ann I still have my bread crock bought years ago in Bishops Stortfoed. A lovely little town with nice shops. Mum and I used togo quite often and have lunch out there.

Evening All,
Just popping on quickly as I want to watch the whale programme with Stephen Fry....it is the last one.
Hope we get to see a pic of Frank looking dapper in his suit and that he and Ros had a good day!
When I was working in Nuneaton I saw Larry Grayson's funeral cortege go by. There were a lot of people who came out to see it. I never knew whereabouts in Nuneaton he lived though. He was really a 'one off' wasn't he. 'Ooh, look at the dust on that'. I can hear him now.
Glad you had a nice break Pat......a pity things are still not right, but you are getting there.
Thanks for the pics Jane. No wonder poor Chris got sore knees on that scratchy felt surface though. He needed a foam garden kneeler up there. The job looks good though....better than the flat stuff on our shed. Chester looks like he is playing pass the parcel!! lol I can just imagine him with his new goose!
Will say night, night now.......OH off to another match tomorrow, Bishops Stortford this time and there is nowhere near it I fancy going, so I will be HOME ALONE as Frank would say and doing jobs!!! lol

Millymollie, that's it, it was Ronnie Corbett. Well done, I love those 'chats' he used to have sitting in his chair. I wish we still had comedians of that calibre. But, I digress!!!!!

Have just seen the news on the tele and they have downgraded the storm in America but still lots of places without power and some flooding, hope Shirley is ok. Weather here has been windy but dry and have done lots of washing as it has been a perfect drying day. There was a tremendous crash on the conservatory roof earlier and a young Woodpigeon had crash landed ( sounded like an elephant) It staggered around for awhile but has gone now, the poor thing must have had a nasty shock. Had a great time last night and it did not rain. Super soul band and we danced the night away and I certainly know it today. Chris has my sympathies with his knees and our staircase seems much steeper today!! I will learn one day to look after myself but I just love to dance. I remember those little bottles of milk at my first school and we used to drink it in the classroom in front of the fire. I remember that the straws often didn't work and you used to make terrible noises try to suck the milk through. I hope Frank and Ros have had a good day and the bride and groom have not found things too upsetting. Seems so sad that their wedding anniversary will always be tinged with sadness. We are having Tapas tonight courtesy of Te""o so I do not have to cook so am heading now into the kitchen to make us a couple of G and T's :-D

Oh some ones about !!
Was it Ronnie Corbett that said "I digress " when he use to sit in that high backed chair and tell a joke ,it would take ages for him to finish the joke and i'am sure he use to say "I digress "after talking about all sorts before getting to the punch line .
Hi Pat , glad you enjoyed your few days away , hope you soon get your bathroom and kitchen sorted out , what a time you've had with it all!!!

Jane, I don't think it was Larry Grayson who said "I digress" although it may have been. When I was (a lot) younger, Larry Grayson lived with his sister (that's where he got the idea of 'fagash Lil' from) in a small back street terreaced house in Nuneaton - . He went by the stage name of Billy Breen then, and I used to collect his sisters insurance from there. It was mostly he who answered the door and paid her premiums, she was out working. He was a nice amiable chap, just the same as he was on TV & stage actually. I have to admit that he never told me to, 'shut that door' on my way out. He always lived in Nuneaton even when he got famous, but in a better house in a better district of course. I always remember he never stopped talking about his idol, Judy Garland. Ironically. my sister-in-law over in Ireland is a big friend of Judy's 'other' daughter, Lorna Luft. She met her when she was box office manager in the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin when Lorna appreared there and they have been great buddies ever since. They visit each other when they are in each others countries, and if Lorna is doing a UK concert, my SIL travels over here to meet up with her. Just threw that in really, got to have something to talk about!!! OK, back to my family research now, bit more mundane that the Garlands etc... Catch you all later, have a nice Sunday
