Afternoon all

Raining here,OH new shed is good and is keeping out the rain, when I am feeling better ,I am going to varnish the shed and paint the door blue to match my little wishing well.

We have been to the supermarket for the weekly shopping, then home again. OH scraping walls in the kitchen where the old boiler was. so he can put on new plain paper and just give it a coat of fresh paint, looks clean & tidy till next year when we get the new kitchen.

I was going to do some ironing but my hand is too sore, bruised and swollen it's where they put in the drip in when i was sedated at the hospital , I can't lift anything heavy and my iron is not a light one,
so I will just go and wrap up the couple of birthday presents I have for Sofia. one is a little straw basket, with lots of little goodies in and the other is a table with Mega blocks , she will have fun building walls . she has started to count how many bricks she has and say the colours in English & Italian. the table has a road way and a little man in a car,so she will have great fun.
Her birthday is not till the 8th September, hard to believe she will be 2 years old.

It's agood think I can use my fingers to type on here or I would by angry :-(

Time for a cuppa.

Morning one and all,

My you were busy last night, NATTER NATTER NATTER. Like old mother hens. :-D :-D :-D

Yes William, the old flat iron on the gas ring. Mum would wipe it on an old cloth and spit on it to see if it was hot enouth. :-( :-( :-( Them came the electric iron. A big flat plug that went in the end of the iron and the plated flex that went to the light. We had two way adaptors, so you could have the bulb in and the same time, with a switch on so you could turn the light on/off as you needed it.

Jane both Ros and Lewis won't eat the crust on bread, but like crusty rolls, I recon there was nothing like a big "NOBBY" (the end of the uncut loaf) covered in beef dripping with salf and pepper. We had an old fashioned baker where I loived (RACKHAMS) do you remember it Mel.??? Who's bread was out of this world, If I was sent up there for one, I would pick the crust off on the way home. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) Didn't do down well at home, SMACK across the ear, but worth it !!.

Mandy, I didn't look that far down the list to see those cottages, What a price.

Jane, when you put the Item on Ebay, When it comes to postage there is a calculator. Just weight your item, and it will tell you if it is letter/small packet/ parcel. Remember to add a bit for your package and taking it to the P.O.

Glad Fiona feels a bit better after her hospital trip.

I see New York is in for a bit of trouble. The Bridge and Groom are suppose to be going there for a few days, then on to somewhere else. for their honeymoon. Don't know what the outcome will be.

Ros got her ring back yesterday. She feels dressed again. Gone off this morning to visit her Saturday friend. She was at the Doctors yesterday afternoon, He has up the strength of her patches again to 20 mgm and id allowed to put TWO on at a time. Lets hope it keeps the pain away for tomorrow.

Much better morning here, some cloud but the sun is shining (AT THE MOMENT)

Taking, Peppers, cuecumbers, and tomato's to the weddfing to give to Conrad and Jan. He reccons the cues are the best he's every tasted.

Trust you all enjoy whatever you are doing today, will poop :-D :-D :-D :-D back later.

Morning Mel and All
Well this looks more promising than yesterday.Sun and cloud,no rain.
Chris is up on the Summerhouse roof taking off the old felt.i am keeping my beady eye on him from in here, and Ann yes I have stocked up on plasters lol
He says he is not going to use the tacks ,but the stapler instead.

My fingers and thumbs are so stiff this morning especially one of my baby fingers.Hopefully they will loosen up.

Mel do you go and see the Dog Show?

I need to pick another load of Tomatoes so will do that now before I pick Hannah up at the station.

I think when I lived in Suffolk our kettle would fur up white in a week. I think I used to put a drop of whire vinegar in it to clean it out. Often put a brush round it to clear some of the fur out.

We don't have that problem down here and my kettle is as clean inside as when I first had it. It is one of those that just has a flar metal plate at the bottom.

One iron a year !! lol i never remember to descale my iron ,i did start using the water from the tumble dryer in the iron as it's distilled when it comes from the dryer so it won't scale the iron up .

The kettle is the worst !! the scale in there is terrible .

Will say Night Night now .

Jane yes a brown plaited (sp) cord sort of thing like on the telephones years ago.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Aug 2011 21:58

Still here at the moment. I still have my grandmothers flat irons, I love them and use them for door stops and we even had one hanging on cord to keep the gate shut n the patio. Think Jane and Ann may have seen that when they came down to see me.

My friends mum used to plug her iron in the light socket but I don't ever remember mum doing at home when I was small. My grandad and father were builder though so perhaps we were well wired up with plug sockets.

Jane

Jane Report 26 Aug 2011 21:35

Are we talking about a brown twisted flex thing plugged into the light socket ?.If so I think I remember that lol
William I go through Irons and Kettles like nothing on earth. One each a year I reckon.I put it down to hard water ,plus I never remember to descale :-S
Our Pizzas were delicious.Chris even ate my crusts.I always left my crusts on bread, pastry etc.I still do today lol.I was always told I would get curly hair if I ate my crusts. You should have seen my hair !!!!!! It was sooooo curly. No wonder I didn't want any more crusts.I think my little pic shows my curly hair lol

Do you know William, I remember mum plugging things into the light socket when I was very little and had forgotten all about that. You are certainly jogging our memories with your own. BTW, OH remembered FIL saying it was Townsend and Coxon that were taken over by Clear Hooters. He said if you have ever been a football man you might have seen his Uncle Dennis who was the secretary for Bedworth football club in the late 80s. You are right about cars.....I can't remember when I last had the bonnet up!

Annx

Annx Report 26 Aug 2011 20:40

What's this about heating and jogging bottoms Frank. I am still in knee length shorts, t shirt and no heating on yet. Me and Jane must be hot stuff compared with you!!! lol

William

William Report 26 Aug 2011 20:39

Loads of rain put a halt to our new found gadding about today. No buses to enjoy. And Jane, we only have single deck buses here, so I don't think I'll risk going 'upstairs' - LOL. There are still some on certain routes in Coventry and even some bendy-buses, but not out here now.
No, between showers, we had to go to the nearby big Tesco to take a steam iron back. After only three weeks use it looked like someone had taken emery paper to the sole plate. We thought it was bad enough when the previous one 'blew up' after only four years use. What is the world coming to? It even had a Tesco brand name on it, not much of an advert! Anyway, we had a refund and upgraded to a Russell Hobbs which was reduced from £40 to just under £20. Seemed like a good deal for a good brand name, not that we'd ever spend £40 on something that means work!!! So, folks watch this space, you might find out how long this one lasts. Not like the old days when your Mum plugged the electric iron into an adaptor in the light socket eh. Or a solid flat cast iron on the stove, I'm not showing my age am I?
Honestly though, technology doesn't equal longevity does it? I don't even look under my car bonnet now, I used to tinker with engines but not anymore, I don't know what anything is. It's all computerised, all I need do is check the washer bottle these days. Why do more.
Anyway, supper time here, the dull day has meant it's dark earlier than ever.
OK, have a pleasant week end, I might pop in tomorrow to look you all over. Take care, TTFN

MIL can't have her biopsy now until her BP is lower so it is back to her GP. OH said they did 3 readings and that the one he told me was the lowest. He said she didn't seem a bit concerned that it was so high. I think they drove him nuts in the car, running commentary on everything, really try his patience. Who that has driven 30,000 miles a year for ages needs to be told about every traffic light, every roadhump, where traffic is turning, stopping etc. I would be so distracted I would be off the road and into a brick wall I think.

Jane, OH says his dad used to smoke a pipe and the tobacco he smoked was called 'Parson's Pleasure' !!!! lol I don't think they'd dare call anything that these days. ;-) ;-)

Mandy, those flask linings make the tiniest splinters like xmas tree baubles. It amazes me after you think you have cleaned it all up the bits you still find.
I love the pic of your Gt Grandmother.......looks like she may be doing cross stitch.....is it in the genes?

Hope you have a lovely weekend with baby Harry and your daughter, Maureen.

Fiona, that's quick isn't it. Hopefully they'll soon get to the bottom of what's wrong and start some treatment soon.
